  • I have a sony handy cam model HDR-HC1 and a mac pro running osx10.9.3, are they compatible? as far as downloading movies from my handy cam. thanks in advance

i have a sony handy cam model HDR-HC1 and a mac pro running osx10.9.3, are they compatible? as far as downloading movies from my handy cam. thanks in advance. If not, is there a different route i can take to get those recordings in to my mac pro?

See if the cam shows up under Devices in the Image Capture app.
Image Capture is located in your Applications folder.
Launch Image Capture then connect the camera.
The camera should show up under Devices top left side of the Image Capture window.
Now look at the bottom left side of the window. Click the: Connecting this (device) opens: pop up menu and select an application to import your photos.
You can also select a folder to import photos from the Import To: pop up menu.
Selet the photos you want to import then click Import or Import All on the right.

  • Canon MF4890 Drivers Won't Install On Mac Running Mavericks

I just purchased an MF4890.  I use a Macbook Pro running Mavericks.  The disk that came with the printer doesn't support Mavericks and when I download the drivers from the Canon website, they won't install.  If I keep the driver image on my Mac desktop, the printer will print for a time -- but then it no longer sees the printer.  This isn't normal.  I should be able to eject the disk image (as in every other application), and the app/drivers should be installed on my mac.  When I as much as created a folder on my desktop and moved the disk images into the folder (print/fax/scan), the mac no longer sees the printer (wireless).
Help!  Does this printer support Mavericks?

    Hi BonnieBoop.
The imageCLASS MF4890dw does support printing on the OS X Mavericks operating system.  You should be able to open on the Mac_MF_Ver1010_00.dmg file and run the installer package.  The icon looks like an open brown box.  Next just follow the steps to install the driver.
If you are not able to see this information or if the setup does not allow you to save the information, we recommend that you contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) and a live technical support representative will be glad to assist you.
    Have a good day.

  • Yosemite won't install due to a "S.M.A.R.T. drive problem that can't be repaired."

After downloading Yosemite successfully, it won't install due to a "S.M.A.R.T. drive problem that can't be repaired."  It says to back up as much as possible and replace the drive.  Everything works flawlessly with Mavericks.  What gives??

If you are getting a S.M.A.R.T. error then you should be more worried about losing everything on your drive then about upgrading your Mac OS.  Regardless of if you are running Mac OS, Linux, or Windows, you should never just disregard such a drive error.  S.M.A.R.T. is designed to give you a warning that your drive is statistically having far more errors than normal and should be backed up immediately and typically replaced.
In your case, it's likely a coincidence that your drive is failing at the time you are attempting to upgrade to Yosemite.  You should stop what you are doing, backup your drive (if you don't already have the backups that you should prior to any OS upgrade), and replace the hard drive prior to moving forward.
To make it clear, your hard drive is likely going to fail soon and you may lose everything on it at any moment.  This failure has nothing to do with Yosemite or any Mac OS.  All hard drives fail at some point.  Hopefully this S.M.A.R.T. notice has given you the opportunity to solve a major problem before it gets worse.

  • Yosemite won't install. Tells me to repair my hard drive, but repair disk button is greyed out!

Ive been trying to install Yosemite for hours. It gets to the installation phase, where it says it will take 22 minutes. Nothing happens until finally there is a message that says: file system verify or repair failed and to quit the installer to restart. I've tried that a few times, but I get to the same point. I also tried to go to utilities where I tried to repair disk, but it's not available so I'm told to do verify disk first and from there I'm told to repair disk, but the button is greyed out and I have no more options and a computer that is stuck in limbo!

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc (Tiger?) & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select *Disk Utility.*
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
    Click _*Repair Disk.*_
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • Win7 won't install in Mac mini SL w/no optical drive, crashes when accessing external HD

I've been trying to install win7 on my Mac Mini with 10.6.8 that doesn't have an optical drive.  I've been able to do the bootcamp partition just fine but when it goes to restart into the windows partition with the win7 disk in the external HD, my screen goes grey, then a green with purple border and then black.  I have to reboot and if I press the alt/opt key, I'm able to get into OSX again.  The research I've done shows I need to create a .iso file which I did with disk utility.  I created all types of .iso files, read only, compressed and dvd.cdr files.  Nothing is working.  Bootcamp is not recognizing any of the 5 thumb drives I've put the .iso files on as I read some drives aren't able to be recognized.  The external HD works as I reinstalled SL just fine using it.  My research also shows that win7 won't install from an external HD.  So I'm at a a loss as to how to proceed from here.  I went into my old windows machine to try to create a bootable thumb drive after I install win7 there but the Dell is so old, I don't have a DVD drive in it, only a CD drive.  And if I buy a downloadable version of win7 I still need to get it to a DVD or a thumb drive to get it installed.
Does anyone have any ideas?  I called Apple and their support ended at "well, we did our job by getting you to the BootCamp partition" which is a crock.  It's their design to take out the optical drive and now it's everyone else's problem!  Sorry, I know I've got attitude but I'm so frustrated!!
Thanks in advance!  I'm posting this here and in bootcamp discussion.

Hatter helped me out without even knowing he helped me out.  In cruising through the archives, he advised another problem seeker to unplug everything except 1 monitor, a mouse and a keyboard.  Which I did and that solved my problems at last.  I also burned my .iso file to a DVD with my MBP and it was able to be read by the external HD.  So keep searching the forums peeps, your answer may be there after all!

  • Google tool bar won't install on Mac OS 10.4.11

Mac OS 10.4.11. Was using earlier Firefox then installed 3.6.8 and now many add-ons won't work but mostly I need Google tool bar which won't install. Also no autofill.

Jeff, there was nothing under logs/Adobe/installers. Instead, I had to scroll through "All reports" and find the log there. Under Adobe, I only found Reader updater and the CC Cleaner protocoll:

  • Desktop Manager won't install on Mac

Would think I'm just missing something obvious but I give up.
    I have administrative privileges.
Download the dmg package from BB's website without problem and opens fine. (yes, it's the Mac version, not the PC version)
Click on "Install BlackBerry Desktop software.app" and get the usual warning pop-up that it is "…an application downloaded form the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?"
I click on "Open" and NOTHING happens (other than this pop-up window goes away).
I've closed all other programs when installing and made sure there isn't another pop-up window (hidden behind the active windows) waiting for my to respond.
I've checked the Applications folder for ANY new listings (even if it's not called something obvious like BlackBerrry Desktop Manager) and don't find anything installed/changed.
The Mac is using the Terminal program to open this Unix-exec file.
If I click on the "Uninstall BlackBerry Desktop software.app", it responds by saying it cannot find the program installed. (That tells me both that the installation package isn't entirely corrupt but that the program never actually installed)
    Using Mac OS 10.6.7.
There is no antivirus/antimalware program running during installation.
Anybody have any idea what I'm missing for what should be a simple process?

After I have restart the next, the DM installer start to work. Maybe give it a try on restart computer?

  • Today Apple retail unit sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my Mac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and Airport Utility version. What can I do please?

Today Apple retail unit/shop in sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my 21 inch iMac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and also newer Airport Utility version (mine is 5.6.1). What can I do, please? So much looking forward to using Time Capsule. It is not at all readable on box. Now with a magnified glass I can just about make out the installation requirements printed in tiny print at the bottom/base of the box! I have tried software update etc etc and to download Airport Utility update from Apple website. This was unsuccessful because of OSX, I gathered. Appreciate any similar experience and how it was resolved. Thank you. Tr

You need OS X 10.7.5 or later. Most likely you can upgrade OS X on your iMac. You already have 10.6.8 and access to the App Store. If your computer qualifies to run Mavericks, then that is what you would upgrade to, otherwise, you would upgrade to Lion.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?

  • Yosemite won't install on i-Mac running Mavericks OS

I have repeatedly attempted to install Yosemite on my i-MAC (late 2013 model) but always get the following message 'This copy of the install OS X Yosemite application can't be verified it may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading' shortly after starting installation procedure.  I have doubled checked to make sue the day/time is set properly on the computer as this has been cited as the reason for similar message when updating OS to newer release(s).
I am going to assume this is attributable to the exceptionally long download times due to high traffic in the face of the Yosemite OS announcement.

    Hello rialebR,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post it looks like perhaps the installer file did not download properly.  I'd like you to please delete the current installer from your launchpad, and then download the installer again from the Mac App Store.
    Enter Launchpad.
Click and hold on an icon until you see all icons jiggle.
Click the "x" button in the upper-left of the Mac App Store app icon you want to delete.
Note: If you do not see an "x" button, either the app is not from the Mac App Store or you are logged in as a standard user.
Click "Delete" in the confirmation dialog to delete the app.
OS X Lion: How to remove Mac App Store apps that appear in Launchpad
    Mac App Store
    Open Mac App Store.
Click Purchases at the top of the window. Your purchased apps will appear.
    Click Install or Download.
    Download past purchases
    Take care,
    Alex H.

  • Mountain Lion Won't Install on Mac Mini (Late 2014)

My relatively new Mac Mini (Late 2014) is running Yosemite.
I have purchased Mountain Lion in order to run a favoured version of sound editing software which is not compatible with either Yosemite or Mavericks.
Attempts to download my purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store result in the following message "We could not complete your purchase. OSX Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer".
The 'Learn More' button takes me to the support article which states that Mountain Lion requires hardware of Mac Mini (Early 2009 or newer).
In terms of software, it requires that Lion is already installed.
My query is do I need to purchase Lion and install it before I can install Mountain Lion?
My concern with this is that Lion itself requires Snow Leopard itself installed on the machine!
    Cheers,
    Lou.

That is correct. Versions of OSX prior to Yosemite do not have the divers to support the 2104 Mac Mini.
You may be able to run ML as a virtual machine (VM) using a VT app like the free VirualBox and paid parallels.
However, you may not be able to get a copy of ML to install unless yo have another Mac that allows you to download the installer.
