"You are opening the application----- for the first time"  error

I've seen a few people post about this from as far back as 2005 but I haven't found anything that worked for me. I believe I started having this problem after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
When opening an application, most often Microsoft Office by opening a specific document/file, I get the warning that I'm opening the application for the first time. This is mostly an annoyance but I don't know how to get this error to stop coming up. I saw a suggestion to delete caches and make sure the application was set as default for that file type; these haven't solved the problem yet.
Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I'm not sure it helped. I did recently trash a couple caches, but this was after the problem had started. I found an old post that suggested the cache might be corrupted and that it would be a good idea to trash it.
The link you posted notes that the deleted cache could cause that problem, but I would think a new cache would be created and it would be resolved. Is it possible I have a setting that's erasing it? How would I change that? It also sounds like in the link you posted that theMacMac's problem eventually went away without explanation.

  • "You are opening the application"..."for the first time" problem

    Hi -
We recently upgraded to Mounatin Lion and when opening a couple of different applications (Quickbooks and Vectorworks) we often, but not always, get a warning message saying something like "You are opening the application ____ for the furst time" even though the application has been opened many times before.
I've seen a few older suggestions in the archives (pre Mountain Lion) that involve opening a Terminal window and entering some lines of code.  Is that my only solution, or is there a file that I can trash or something else?
    Thanks -

Having this exact same problem - Not just after the upgrade, but began a few months in.
Hope a solution comes up. Most tips online are from 2006 or 2009.

  • HOW TO STOP you are opening this program for the first time

I continue to get the warning "you are opening this program for the first time".  I don't want that warning to ever appear again for any program.  How to permanently get this warning to never again appear?

    Thomas,
The reason I don't want these warnings (especially for programs that I have had on my Mac for years!) is because I now use ecamm's "Printopia" to send items from my iPad3 running iOS 6.0.1 to my MacBook Pro-13 (mid-2010) running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 -- and in order to do this:
    1.  Both my iPad and Mac have to be on the same WiFi network.
    2.  The Mac has to be awake, cannot be in the "sleep" mode
OK but in order to wake my Mac, I've found that using the app "Remote" on my iPad to open iTunes AND PLAY A SONG will "waken" my Mac*.
So now, for example, I send a .jpg file to my Mac.  I have it set so that GraphicConverter opens when a .jpg file is to be opened.  OK but if this warning appears (and even though I have had GraphicConverter on the Mac since the beginning of time…) I sometimes (like today) get this warning.  Of course I am not at my Mac and yet when I eventually go to my Mac-- there is that dialog box sitting there and until I click OK the photo doesn't open (and on my iPad I don't get a confirmation that it has been sent, because it hasn't until I click OK on the Mac).
This could happen for other types of files, too - text files or Word documents etc.
It seems to happen when I UPDATE a program, like when GC went from 8.3 to 8.3.1 for example.
    Thanks for any additional comments.
*Perhaps there is a better / faster / easier way to "waken" my Mac from my iPad?  This is the only way I have found so far…

  • Panel won't open the first time

The accordion works fine on this page, but the first panel won't open the first time.
It only opens the second time you click on it.
The other panels are fine....any ideas?

You need to remove defaultPanel: -1 from your script:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var acc1 = new Spry.Widget.Accordion("Accordion1", { useFixedPanelHeights: false, defaultPanel: -1 }); </script>
This is near the bottom of your document.  You may as well delete this entire line, though, because you have a duplicate below that doesn't have the defaultPanel:-1 variable.

  • Firefox is taking a long time to open the first time I click on it and also a dialouge box comes up stating firefox is already running, but is not responding, you must close existing firefox process? What is going on?

After I start my computer in the morning, I go to my email, then I click on firefox, with google as my homepage, it takes a long time for firefox to show up on the computer. It says it is connecting, then when I close firefox, and go to reopen it again, a dialog box opens up that says firefox is already running and I must close existing firefox process first. I have not run into this problem before.

    * The first time you start up any application after turning on your computer is called a cold start, which is why Firefox takes a while to load right away. (I've noticed that future versions of Firefox start up faster on a cold start then Firefox 5.0.1.) Also, a lower amount of RAM could be slowing its start-up down since Firefox is kind of memory hungry.
    * As for the second part of your question, press ctrl,Alt, and the delete keys on your keyboard. The Windows Task Manager should start. Go to the processes tab and look for 'firefox.exe'. Right click on the firefox.exe and click 'End Process'. Hit Yes and wait for a minute.
    * Then opening Firefox again.
    Hopefully this helped somewhat!

  • German umlauts are not shown correctly, when a received e-mail is opened the first time. What can I do?

When I open a received e-mail the first time, German umlauts (ä, ö, ü) are not shown correctly. Instead of them there are characters like §,$. When I close the e-mails and open them again the German umlauts are shown correctly. I don't know how to solve that problem. Who can help me?

Fascinating. Sounds like an inconsistency between the encoding being used and the encoding being declared. I can't think why it should change when you re-open the message, unless Thunderbird is adding a correct encoding declaration.
(Most users complain about it working in the opposite direction; messages stored as drafts often restore with damaged "special" characters such as smart quotes, accented characters and umlauts.)

  • PDF only open the first time

    HI
I have a problem with the PDF export, of any type of document; the situation is complicated in the case of documents which provide for the printing of batches of transactions. Let me give an example.
I open a delivery customers and I click on the icon PDF: SAP opens the pdf of Transactions batch and then the standard form of delivery; simultaneously saves both pdf folder of images.
If, once closed the pdf, I click again icon PDF (or after creating a new document), SAP only opens the transaction reports; the report of delivery is not open on the screen but is only saved in the attachments.
In order to view again I have to close the form and reopen it.
Is the first time that the next time, the log file I have the message "Invalid input parameter for DfltSeq", but the first time you open the pdf.
Does anyone know help me to understand why:
    1. SAP does not reopen both reports from the second time
    2. the pdf are saved once in the path of the images, and after the path of attachments.
    Thanks
    NL

    Hi Maggie,
can you tell me if there is something official SAP (Notes or other) with the problem and that SAP will provide a solution?
I have the SAP 9.0 PL 14 and I do not have the problem.
the customer have 9.0 PL 16 and has the problem.
    Thanks

  • OS 5.0, Storm: URLs in SMS messages stop being clickable after the thread is opened the first time

    I'm running 5.0.0.328 on a VZW Storm 9530.
After upgrading, I noticed that URLs in SMS messages and e-mails stop being clickable after a certain time.  I'm not sure that this is so much a time issue as it is one with just getting X number of messages then breaking, but it works like this:
    Battery Pull occurs
    Storm reboots
Look at SMS messages, URLs can be clicked, opening them in the Browser
    go on about my day
    Get more SMS/eMail messages
Look at SMS messages, URLs can NOT be clicked.  Have to be copied/pasted into browser to view.
    Battery Pull occurs
    Storm Reboots
I can again click on URLs and open them in browser
And that's how it goes.  Initially, after a battery pull, the URLs in various SMS are underlined.  Clicking them opens them in the browser.  OR, I can touch them and hit the BB button, and select Open Link in Browser from the menu.
After some more testing, the problem appears to be related to the threading of SMS messages.
My test case is twitter.  ALL my twitter messages are thrown into a single thread (I do NOT want this, by the way, I want individual SMS messages, NOT threads of them).  SO let's say, for example, I have 25 SMS messages in the twitter thread.  Immediately after the battery pull, I can open the thread, and after a moment, all URLs are underlined, clickable, and if I touch/hold for a second, highlighted and can be opened via the BB menu.
After exiting that thread to do other things, and then coming back to that thread, I have found that OLD SMS messages in the thread (the original 25 that were there when I did the battery pull) are still underlined, clickable, and so forth.  However, any NEW messages added to the thread after I opened it the first time, are NOT clickable, NOT underlined.
My theory at this point is that the code that parses the SMS messages in a thread and then underlines the URLs making them usable, only runs that first time, and either does not run, or fails to run, on subsequent openings of that SMS thread.
Thus, if the messages were NOT threaded, then the code would run when each individual SMS was opened, eliminating this problem.  OR, having that code run EVERY TIME a thread is viewed, to ensure it does the underlining/grabbing of URLs for new SMS messages.

As per the Trouble Shooting basics page:
    Delete your Aperture Preferences

  • Opening application for the first time warning keeps coming

I've installed VLC player and amongst other media files set mp4 to automatically open with it. When I double click a mp4 file it asked 'You are opening the application 'VLC Player' for the first time' etc. Pressed ok. After that it didn't ask that any more.
However, every time I reboot my Mac and double click a mp4 file again, I keep getting that 'You are opening the application 'VLC Player' for the first time' warning popup again the first time I want to open a media file. Then it's gone again, until I reboot my Mac again.
Every time I reboot and want to play a media file I always get that 'first time' popup. It only happens with VLC Player. I've uninstalled it completely and reinstalled it again, but that 'first time' popup for VLC Player keeps coming every time I reboot and upon the first time I open a media file.
    How can I fix that?

Did you copy VLC to Applications folder? When you download VLC, you get it in a DMG file, that you have to open, and here's VLC. However, you don't have to copy the VLC copy you find in it, but you have to drag the VLC icon to the Applications icon:
Then, drag the VLC DMG file you find in the Desktop, drag it to Trash and delete the VLC installer from Downloads folder. Finally, open VLC from Applications folder

  • Reader 9 on a Mac always says it's  the first time you've opened this PDF

Since upgrading to Reader 9 Intel Macs every time I click on a PDF file to open it Reader says "You are opening the application Adobe Reader for the first time. Are you sure you want to open this application". Most annoying. Never did it with V8.

Thanks a million that fixed it. Man I had loads of permissions to fix but that must have been one as it now works fine. If I could impose on your knowledge one more time. I have been talking to Dave Taylor at Gamerzines magazine. It's a series of Gaming magazines using Reader and displaying Flash content such as Game videos etc. I'm using V9 and Flash 10 but all that happens when I click on a link on the magazine it just says buffering and nothing happens. Any ideas? I've set Multimedia Legacy to Flash and Trust has Flash as Always Allow. Plus the correct link is in the Trust Manager.

  • ScreenSaverEngine says it's opening for the first time

    Greetings everyone,
For some reason, starting this morning, I am getting a popup that says "You are opening the application "ScreenSaverEngine" for the first time. Are you sure you want to open this application?"
If I click open, it disappears and nothing happens. I try launching the screensaver again and the popup comes back. I tried this fix in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2165990&tstart=0 and that didn't work. I can go to screensaverengine.app directly and launch the screensaver just fine. It's when it tries to automatically launch that I get this message.
    Any ideas?

Nevermind, a reboot fixed it. by the by, this started happening after awakening the macbook pro from sleep.

  • Running app for the first time NOT

Suddenly I get this message for some of my Applescript apps I have been using for years,
"You are opening the application “name.app” for the first time. Are you sure you want to open this application?"
Even after saying yes and running it the message persists every time. I have verified using the terminal that the quarantine flag is not set for the app.
Any thoughts on this? Better, any solutions?
