You do not have enough access privilages.

Here's the deal. I downloaded an app where I can download ringtones, textones, etc. and make my own. I download some text tones and ringtones that I like and when I try to add them to iTunes I get a message saying "You do not have enough access privilages." I've already made all folders and encapsulated folders in iTunes to have permissions and I've repaired permissions in the Disk Utility. I'm able to put the text tones and ringtones in the ringtones folder via Finder, however they do not port to iTunes nor do they show up in iTunes. Also, I know that there was a recent update for iTunes and when I run software update it will download the update, but then I get an error saying it could not install iTunes. Could the update be causing the failure of the text and ringtones? Also, how can I install the new update?

Fixed it. Turns out that there is two folders in my iTunes Library marked iTunes music and the one that was the default location for iTunes was the one that needed to have access privelages, so after I opened it the tones synced properly. Also, the iTunes update finally installed correctly. I used the check for updates in iTunes and not the software update from system preferences. Hope this helps for anyone else having a similar problem.

Oddly enough. I think I just solved it. It looks like, for some reason, my computer has about 8 different "iTunes music" folders, and I've been saving my music to the wrong one. Neat. Music now imports and plays as it should. Copying things over is going to be so fun tonight!

If your iPad has a passcode lock, have you tried unlocking the iPad before attempting to sync it with iTunes?

Are you logged in as an Administrator on your account? You need to have administrative privileges on the iTunes and related folders for syncing. Try this diagnostic in iTunes http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1369 and see if it identifies the errors. If you are an administrator on the computer, you will need to make sure the necessary folders have the permissions repaired.

See this article about troubleshooting the error message regarding access privelages. It may be preventing your iTunes library from being able to save/retain music you have recently imported to it, which may explain why no new content is being added to your device.

Everytime i click to go to my itunes, the message "The Itunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." pops up. I have tried my best to fix it by adding another account to my computer and setting that one as the administator and mine as the regular user. When i did that the itunes worked on both, but when i changed my account back to administator and the other account to the regular user my account didnt work but the other one did. When I attempt to plug my iPod into my macbook, it begins syncing then this happens:
First, iTunes tells me the default "It could damage your ipod to disconnect it without ejecting it" message.
Then I get:
"The iPod "iHazen" cannot be synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I click ok. I then get :
"Attempting to copy to the disk "iPod" failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation"
In small print it says:
"iTunes could not save to your Music Folder because you do not have write access. Check the permissions on your music folder and the folders in your Music Folder, then try copying this file again"
Basically, I've tried messing around with the Permissions on a bunch of folders, I've lurked google, and multiple forums including this one for an answer. One had something to do with iPhoto, but my iPod does not even sync my photos. I've obviously tried restoring the iPod, and reinstalling iTunes...
so if anyone, has any other types of ideas.. I'd love to hear them.
Apparently this happens to every type of iPod, including iPhones... and no one has a solution. Music won't even stay on my ipod after it syncs like a gig and half. It doesn't even stop at a certain location every time. I've deleted the files it stops on to no avail.

I've been having the same problem! It's so frustrating!!
Mine was starting to sync, then i got the same messages about "not enough access privileges" but i also got a message that said I improperly removed the device -which i didn't- and that has been giving me a lot of problems, like my ipod freezing and having to just take it out, reset it and reboot computor. The last time I tried it it would start syncing but take FOREVER , like get stuck on one thing.
I, as well, have tried almost everything: rebooting computer, uninstalling & reinstalling itunes, restoring and resetting ipod to factory settings (multiple times!), making sure ipod is fully charged, enabling disk use, checking and changing ALL the permissions and applying to all enclosed fields, installing and updating all new software, repaired disk utilities...I don't know!!!
I think i will try what manbartlett suggested about enabling disk use AND putting ipod into disk mode and then verify/repair? maybe try another USB cord as well.
I'm just not sure if its my computor and the application and files or if its just the ipod itself...
I've tried calling the apple hot-line but was so frustrated because the connection was muffled and the person was foreign and no offense but it kind of makes it hard to understand!!
Did doing all that help at least for a while?
any more help would be awesome!
