"You do not have permission to post in this forum"

I have another account that cannot do anything much at all, and I would like to get it fixed without a five day wait for a Genius Bar appointment, then a 1 hour bus trip each way with an "I can't help with that" in the middle.
The account has been broken for over a year.  This is what happens:
I can submit a question to the community.
I can open any postings that show as matches.
If there are no matches and I get thrown to the list of communities, then I can't view or post to any of them.  I see the product names and icons (iPad, for example, but the list of related communities on the right is missing for all products.  Which seems unfair because I own most of them.
You do not have permission to post to this forum
It appears you are not allowed to view what you requested.  You might contact your administrator yadda yadda.
I have posted about this before:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/17393255#17393255
with no real answer (a threat of possible help, if you like, but with no resultant benefit.)
My question is - how does one get help with the help forums?  I have phoned Apple's help desk and they said they could not do anything.
I would really like to get my primary account working - it connects to the right email address, it all set up and comfortable - and it does not use my name and location as an alias (who's idea was that?  Fire that person!)
If you know of any court of appeal, help desk support forum support line, 21-step program or anything else that might help, please tell me.  This has gone on long enough.
I tried to do something about this from the other account but to get support for the support communities you have to be able to post to them.
"That's some catch, that Catch-22"
"It's the best there is."
Thanks in advance for your help.
PG.

Seventy-one -  To my knowledge, I have been a model citizen.  And not impertinent of you at all - a very reasonable question.  All words have been 1-3 or 5+ letters long, I certainly have not received any communication (that I have been able to find) that indicates a transgression.  And there is another question - which castle, and are you saving for the deposit?
Bleach  - other user name is "Ploughguy".  But I was more after a means of contacting those with influence myself.  Most fora like this have a contactable moderator or administrator.  I am rather amazed that one needs the intercession of the saints.  Such as St Roger...
Roger - This situation.  The "can't look-can't post" situation.  It has been (not) happening for some time.
I previously raised the issue here .
BTW, I created yet another ID because I was not careful enough when I set up the second ID and it defaulted to "NameFromSuburb".  This is OK for johnfromnewyork but a huge privacy risk if you are ranulffromlittlestorpingintheswuff - an unusual name in a small place.  I do not know how that default got through the peer review. Basically it says "ranulf has the good taste to own an Apple something which is portable and fenceable, and he lives not far from here".  I have suggested to the privacy people that it is a very bad idea.  And yes, I realise my alias is already out there.  I have asked the privacy people to blow it away.

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in the finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings if necessary. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so

  • Error Installing SQL Server Express 2008: '' is not a valid login or you do not have permission.

I have tried installing SQL Server 2008 multiple times on my machine, and I always receive this error about 3/4 of the way through: '' is not a valid login or you do not have permission.
I have tried installing both SQL Server Express 2008 with Tools and SQL Server Express 2008 with Advanced Services, and they both fail the same way. I am trying to do a new stand-alone installation.
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition SP3.
Looking into the error, some forums say I have to install it from THE Administrator account, and not an account with administrator permissions; it also cannot be in Safe Mode, because then the Windows Installer won't work. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to login to the Administrator account. I can go to the home login screen, do ctrl+alt+del twice, and attempt to login to the Administrator account, but I receive this error: Unable to Log You on because of an Account Restriction.
Other forums say that in the Server Configuration section, all you have to do is provide the username and a strong password from an administrative account on the computer, and it doesn't have to be THE Administrator. Well, I did that, but for some reason it doesn't recognize my username and password, it says something like "The credentials you provided for the SQL Server Agent are invalid". BUT THOSE ARE THE CORRECT CREDENTIALS FOR MY ADMINISTRATIVE USER! So I'm forced to use one of the accounts without a password, like NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. That's the only way I can get past this step.
Also, just FYI, on the next step, which is Database Engine Configuration, I am using Mixed Mode for the Security Mode. I AGAIN provide a password, and then add my current user (who IS an administrator on my machine!) to the SQL Server Administrators box.
But yet, it fails every single time.
This is pathetic and ridiculous. I must have tried to install this thing 15 times, that is not an exaggeration. I'm posting this on several other forums as well, maybe an MVP or Bill Gates himself can help me.
I have one of the log files from a failed installation. If someone would like to see it, I will post it.

PS : if you are talking about the Sql Server Agent Service, it is disabled for Sql Server Express. It is enabled only for the Workgroup/Standard/Dev and Entreprise Editions
Sorry, but I've tried the suggestion in that link, and it hasn't helped me.
For anyone wonder, the link is talking about the problem in Server Configuration where I enter my Windows user account and password (which is in the Administrative group), but it says the credentials are invalid.  The link suggests that you need to either enter your Windows account (which I did, and it wouldn't let me go to the next step), or to use one of the built in accounts (which I also tried, but it gave me the " '' is not a valid login" error during the installation).
    Any other ideas?
I haven't had any answers from any other forums either, so I'll just post my log file in case anyone wants to look at this:

  • IPhoto Library locked in Yosemite; You do not have permission to open the document "iPhoto Library"

Long story to get to the iPhoto part but may help someone who is in-the-know about what can be done for me...
I turned on my computer a few weeks ago (iMac 27" late 2012, 2.9GHz Intel core i5) to access some photos in iPhoto and it would not load to the home screen but gave me the Disc Utilities Menu. From memory the options I had were; (1) Restore from Time Machine Back-up, (2) Re-install OSX, (3) Get online Help, (4) Repair or Erase using Disc Utility.
I tried Repair in option 4... no success.
I tried option 1 as I have my internal HDD backed up to an external HDD via Time Machine in case anything goes wrong... no success.
I tried option 2 (which was Mavericks) and it loaded and took me to my desktop.
When I tried to opened the iPhoto app in the dock there were no photos in it.
After searching forums and the internet they suggested it may have been an iPhoto upgrade issue so I tried to update iPhoto but found it was already up-to-date.
After looking, I found that the "iPhoto Library" in "Pictures" had a red circle with the white dash through it and was locked. When the "iPhoto Library" folder was double clicked I got the message "You do not have permission to open the document “iPhoto Library”.
In all the trouble I have upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 (with Photos 1.0) and am obviously still having the same warning/error message come up when the iPhoto Library folder is clicked.
Right click won't allow me to view package contents.
The "Import" function in the "Photos" app won't do anything with the folder, and the "iPhoto Library" folder looks and functions the same in all of the back-ups on my external HDD Time Machine.
I don't care if I need to use "Photos" or "iPhoto" but I do need to get the photos out because they are irreplaceable. If had know this problem was possible (especially while using Time Machine) I would have manually stored and backed my photos up in folders on another external HDD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, feel free to ask any additional Questions (but this is the first time I have posted in the forum so hopefully I can work out what is going on if you do reply to this post )
    Cheers.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had tried this earlier with no success either. Even with the padlock unlocked I can't even change the tab that says "OPEN WITH". I still get the... "You do not have permission to open the document “iPhoto Library” message. You may also it continues to say "Fetching" where it should say my user name at the bottom.

  • You do not have permission to view the System Landscape Directory.

    Hello there,
When I accessed my SLD from portal, it took me to the page but kept saying:
    - You do not have permission to view the System Landscape Directory. Minimum required: UME role with permission com.sap.lcr.LcrUser and J2EE role LcrUser. See the SLD Post-Installation Guide for details
    - SLD not configured; configure the SLD in Administration first.
I searched on these forums for the above error. Got some results, but nothing really substantial that has helped/fixed my problem.
I also read a bit on SLD from the pdf file named: System Landscape
    Directory of SAP NetWeaver 2004s
I also worked on the security roles and actions to individual
users or user groups like for ex: the above pdf file advised I map the security roles from Visual Administrator, to the created roles in the portal. I've done that too. Like create a user group: 'SAP_SLD_ADMINISTRATOR'  and create a user role corresponding to it, which would be: 'LcrAdministrator'
Then, I went to visual administrator, and clicked on 'Assign User Groups to Roles'
Even after this, I tried to access the SLD from portal: It is still giving me the same error I mentioned above in bold italics.
Can somebody please help me how to fix this issue?
    Thanks
    Dino.

    Graham:
Thank you very much for making the effort to reply to my query.
But, it still hasnt solved my problem yet.. for some reason even though I followed your instructions and did what you advised.
I have attached a screenshot of my Visual Administrator screen that you advised me to modify/change.
    Here it is: http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/2259/screenshot002co1.jpg
After I made the changes, I restarted the J2EE server and went to my portal SLD page: [http://org-x:50000/sld]
Tried authenticating usernames: LcrAdministrator and Administrator.
Both attempts resulted in the same error show below:
    - You do not have permission to view the System Landscape Directory. Minimum required: UME role with permission com.sap.lcr.LcrUser and J2EE role LcrUser. See the SLD Post-Installation Guide for details
    - SLD not configured; configure the SLD in Administration first.
I am wondering, if you would have another workaround regarding this issue, can you please let me know?
    Thanks
    Dino.

    - The workflow is still fail even I assign "full control" to my users group "test\group" – at Site Collection level.
Surprisingly, I have successfully found a solution for this error message. However, I still have some points that I do not clearly understand. Let's start with my solution first.
    Solution:
*** i. Assign permission policy at Web Application level – Central Admin site ***
    1. Central Administration ==> Application management
    ==> Manage Web application
    2. Go to "permission policy", then create a new permission level. This permission level contains all "edit item" permission.
    3. Select "user policy", then I assign it directly to my user account: test\user1.
*** ii. Assign "edit item" permission at Site Collection level ***
    1. Site Setting ==> Site permission
    2. Assign "Edit" permission to my test\group.
(Actually I removed all permissions of my user group at Site Collection level. It seem my group has inherited permission from Web Application level, is that correct? )
*** iii. Create a new list item and workflow runs ……. ***
    ==> My question is:
    1. Why I cannot assign permission to my users group - "test\group" -
at "Web Application" level? Instead I have to assign permission policy for each users, one by one?
    2. Could you please let me know how to collect full detail error message of workflow status?
Thank you very much! Have a nice weekend.

Thank you for your very detail response.
Point 1: Yes my 2 service: user profile & profile sync service are running. I performed "full synchronization" as well. Actually i've tried 3 another action plans before coming up with the solution i posted:
    *** Actions completed ***
    1. Activate the feature: workflow can use app permissions.
Site actions > Site Settings > Site features >activate the feature below:
     Workflows can use app permissions
    2.
Refresh trusted security token services metadata feed
    Get-SPTimerJob
    "RefreshMetadataFeed"
    | Start-SPTimerJob
    - then restart the machine.
    3. Start full user profile synchronization.
    Point 2:
    - Yes my user had Edit permission at workflow task list + list affected by workflow.
I have just remove all permissions of my user at "Site Collection" level. However, when i show my user permissions at my workflow task list and my users still have "Edit" Permission ( assigned at Web Application level. These permissions
still exist even after my workflow task list stop inheriting permission).
==> the problems probably belongs to "permission" at "Site Collection level". It seems "permission level at my Site Collection does not work". All users accounts are also suffer from the same issues except farm admin account
( which has full control at Web Application level).
I would appreciate if your guys can guide me how to make "permission" at my "Site Collection level" work again?
    Thank you very much.

  • Iphoto locked up, I forced quit and now when I try to open iphoto it gives me a Caution note...The iphoto library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.  What do I do now?

I had to force quit from iphoto...
then I tried to reopen iphoto and it gave me a Caution message.
The iphoto library is locked, on a locked disc, or you do not have
permission to make changes to it....
What do I do to be able to get to my photographs?

Try Rebuilding the iPhoto library and post back with results. BTW if you don't get an answer on this forum there is an iPhoto forum too.

  • My problems started with an error 50 message when trying to download bought films. After un-installing and downloading iTunes, a number of times, I still cannot open iTunes on my PC and keep getting the message "you do not have permission to open"

I have removed all spyware, anti virus software and removed all iTunes programs - as suggested by Apple. I still cannot open iTunes on my PC because of the message "you do not have permission to open this file, folder"
I have changed and checked all permissions to allow this but still get the same message.
iTunes is located on my C drive and I now do not have the neccesary permissions to open it.

    Hey Chris-
It has been some time since you posted this message and I see you haven't gotten any replies, but  I have the same issue and I was wondering if you figured out how to resolve it.  Hopefully you were able to figure it out.

  • Home Sharing Problem: "You do not have permission to access the requested resource"

This problem has been posted numerous times here with not one single answer that I can find. Not only does it take about fifteen minutes for Home Sharing to load on my iPad, once it does load I get the "You do not have permission to access the requested resource" when I try to play any video. I've tried resetting everything. Even home videos won't play via Home Sharing. Is there a known bug that someone can tell me about? Or is Home Sharing on iPad just broken.
Possibly related: videos that play on my iPhone on Facebook won't play on my iPad. The iPad is newer and more powerful, you think it would be the other way around. I have never used a jail break on anything. I have never installed any kind of security software.
iPhone 4, iPad 3, mid-2010 27" iMac, Airport Extreme all on the same network with the same iCloud ID.

I have been having the same issues on all my iPads / iPhones and can't come up with much info either.
I just seemed to fix it by quitting the app on the device, changing my wifi network to the 5Ghz band and retrying. Loads quick and plays every time (for the last 5 minutes at least)
I did read that there is a bug, in that if you close down the app after you have watched the video(s) you won't get the "permission" error. Seems to be working.
Not super helpful but I feel your pain.

  • HELP... WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?? Did I loose all my pictures??  The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.

Everytime I click on my Iphoto icon this is what pops up
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.
I can't get into my library.
I thought I did a back up onto a TAB and I can't unlock it from there either... HELP!! I'm not computer savy enough to figure this out!!
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... HELP ME!!
I've gotten frustrated and I've cried and I'm hoping there is help out there!
    Thanks!

re-post in the iPhoto forum where all the people that are very familiar with that software hang out.  You are much more likely to get a quicker answer there.  Good luck.

  • HT5252 I tried to change my metadata date and got this   Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file "01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg" because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.

I tried to change the metadata date.  It changed the date on my photo, but when I checked the box that said "also change my original file", it gave me this error message.
Unable to change original file.  Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file “01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg” because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.
    Wassup?

What is your Aperture version? The older versions of Aperture 3 had a problem to apply Metadata changes to the original file.
If you are using the current version Aperture 3.4.5, try to repair the permissions on your Aperture library, if you have not already done so:
Launch Aperture with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and select "Repair Permissions" from the First Aid PAnel, that will appear.
If that does not help, post back with more information on your original files - are the referenced or managed? Where is your Aperture library located? Since when do you have this problem? And what did you do directly before noticed the problem for the first time?
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Active Directory domain Services – "You do not have permission to modify the group" followed by (Chinese or Japanese characters). Error message

    Folks:
I am having an issue with a system, which is throwing a really odd error message. When the user tries to modify the AD group, they receive the following error message:
“You do not have permission to modify the group”, which is then followed by what appears to be Chinese or Japanese characters. In addition, the characters
randomly change, which makes me believe the characters are ASCII values or equivalent, not specific values for any coherent words provided by installed language packages.
Has anyone seen this issue before? If so can you offer any advice?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
This issue can be caused due to the permissions under Security tab are modified incorrectly.
Please use delete control wizard to reassign the permissions or correct the permissions under Security tab manually.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • I'm getting "The import was canceled. You may not have permission to writ3

I'm getting this message when I click on capture when I try to record from the built in iSight camera:
The import was canceled. You may not have permission to write to user/.... I tried calling apple care for support, but the person who I was speaking to seemed to be reading off a manual and never heard of this problem (and in the middle of our conversation my ever-dropping-calls-even-though-I-have-a-case-on-it iPhone 4--dropped the call, although I looked it up online and saw several posts with this problem, I just don't understand how to solve it because the messages kept saying to right click on something I don't know how to pull up. I've had my macbookpro since october but haven't yet used imovie, since I was so used to imovie 6. Please help

I finally got a representative that was able to help me, she had me go to Get Info, by right clicking iMovie from the finder, and I had to click on Sharing & Permissions>Everyone>Read & Write
