You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this installation for all users of the machine. Log on as administrator and then retry this installation

Hi all
Have seen a couple threads regarding this but unfortunately nothing that solves my problem thus far!
Right now, our developers are using the Domain Admin account to promote their website code using MSI files.  I'd like to change this as I feel the Domain Admin account should be on lock down and only used when absolutely necessary, pretty common.  The
same goes for my account too, I would like to absolve as much use of the Domain Admin as I can.
Problem is, when they run installers from their own accounts, they receive this error: You do not have sufficient privileges
to complete this installation for all users of the machine. Log on as administrator and then retry this installation
The accounts they are using are part of the Built In Administrators group and the Domain Admins group... I'm not sure what other permission you'd need in a domain?  We've gone as far as explicitly giving them local admin access on this server and still
nothing changes.
Is there a Group Policy or something that I can change to provide install rights and possibly remove these accounts as Domain Admin and more along the line of Power User?
Thanks much for your help!
Ryan

Hi,
You could use Software Restriction Policies (SRP’s) or Applocker(supported on Windows server 2008 R2/Windows 7 only) to restrict the running

When attempting to install iTunes 9.0.1, I receive this message just after the installation begins: You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this installation for all users on this machine. Log on as an administrator and then retry this installation."
I am the administrator of this machine. I have tried installing in a different directory of the all users folder, however that failed with the same reason. This PC has had some anomalies of late so this may not be iTunes, but I'm without clues as to where to go to fix this.
Thanks for any clever ideas you may have. I miss the music.

You can try to repair the permissions for the Firefox application files and folders.
    You can also do this:
    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded.

  • When I try to upgrade to the newer version of Firefox, this is the message I get (I am using OS 10.4.11): The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.

I have recently dropped Earthink as me dial-up provider. I now am using Virgin Mobile Broadband2GO. I was using Safari. I am now using Yahoo! Mail Plus. It suggested I switch to Firefox. I had an older version of Firefox (2.0.0.6) and started using it. It suggested I needed to upgrade because many of the newer web sites wouldn't work well on this older version. I downloaded the newer version and proceeded with the installation and it would tell me this: '''The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.''' I have re-downloaded and tried it again two more times. I haven't a clue what that means or what to do about it.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • Networked hard drive and "you do not have sufficient privileges..."...??

Hi. Our set-up is as follows:
iMac 17" 'Igloo' ethernet to Belkin wifi router>ADSL
External Prolific 120gb HD (2 partitions, one is clone of iBook, the other is miscellaneous 'Saves'.) - firewire to iMac.
    iBook wifi to Belkin.
iUse iBook, 'erUse 'erMac. (Don't ask, 'er doesn't like 'notebooks'. Suits me I prefer the iBook. The lack of 'real estate' bugs me sometimes, but you can't have everything...)
No problems networking to iMac or External HD, either or both partitions, from iBook via wifi.
    Here's the rub...
If, from the iBook, I try to 'tidy up' files on the miscellaneous 'Saves' partition of the external (which is connected to the iMac, remember...?) by moving them from one folder to another, I get an authentication box. I enter PW, hit 'Enter' and get another box saying:
"The operation could not be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
So I dash over to the iMac, push 'er out of the way, change Ownership & Permissions to 'Ade' as opposed to 'Jenny', click 'Apply to enclosed items', OK the warning, dash back over to the iBook, (12 ft or so) and still only get 'Read only' access to enclosed items. If I tediously go through every subfolder & file using the iMac I can get control from the iBook, but surely it doesn't have to be like this?
Please, can someone point me in the right direction here?
If I connect the X HD directly to the iBook, none of the above problems occur. Because of our domestic setup, however, it is 'neater' to have the X HD stashed under the iMac's (or 'er) desk.
    Thanks in advance.

In order to setup sharepoints with better permissions you should try out sharepoints.
You can then setup your shared folder to inherit permission from parent. Then anyone associated to the group that folder belongs to should have no problem moving and deleting files.

  • You do not have sufficient privileges...

My Apple Genius archived and restored my MBOP last week. "Lost" a coupe registration codes and my printer - but those were easily resstored.
I am now receiving an errormessages when trying to update a few registered third party apops (MailSteward, Alarm Clock Pro).
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items..."
I can right-click on the app's folder, and reset the permissions. But is there a way (a "batch file" in old Windows-speak) to set all apps up with the "proper" permissions? I am the only user on this machine - just one account has been established.

Select all of the application folders, press the Option, Command, and I keys simultaneously, and then change the permissions as desired. If this method doesn't work, open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following:
    sudo chmod -R a+rwX
followed by a space. Next, drag all the folders into the Terminal window, press Enter, and type in your administrator password; nothing will appear in the Terminal while the password is being typed.

  • Installing/Upgrade Apps - You do not have sufficient privileges

I migrated from a Powerbook to a Macbook Pro about a month ago and have attempted to upgrade some apps since (OmniGraffle Pro, etc.). Every time I attempt this operation, I get the following message:
The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.
I am the admin and I have changed my App folder, Library, etc. so that the Owner is my shortname. And they are all read-write. The only folder (and it's enclosed items) that I couldn't change was the System folder.
I can change the System folder so that the Owner = shortname. But I cannot Apply to Enclosed Items. I get the same message:
The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.
Any ideas before I go to the Genius Bar?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Sounds like part of the problem is the Applications folder ownership. That should be different. Go to Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility, and have it repair permissions.
That should fix it so you can install software again.
Individual applications you can't upgrade should be reinstalled from their original source disk/download off the internet first, because they are probably PowerPC versions that aren't easily migrated to Intel. See my user tip I made with Kappy about migrating from PowerPC to Intel. Using the migration assistant going from one to the other doesn't always work right. The tip is here:

  • Dashboard Designer Error - You do not have sufficient permissions to complete the request.

    Hi all
I have created a PerformancePoint Data Source library and a PerformancePoint Reports list on a SharePoint site. The PerformancePoint site collection and site features are also both activated. The data source library is in
the 'trusted data soruces' list in administration. Existing reports I have created show OK on the site.
When user, who has full control of the entire site, clicks "add a new item" in the BI Reports list, SharePoint launches Dashboard Designer OK.
The problem is when Dashboard Designer loads, it does not load the existing data sources & reports. Clicking on the refresh icon results in the error:
You do not have sufficient permissions to complete the request.
If I add this user to the Site Collection Administrators list, the user can refresh and view the data sources & reports OK. Is this a requirement to create reports in Dashboard Designer? It is not acceptable to set all
our report designer users as the site collection administrator.
    Cheers
    Tyson

    Hi,
Have you also tried to assign rights using the technique mentioned in the above given document (i.e. using Dashboard Designer):
Important To assign or change user permissions for dashboard items, you must have
Full Control permissions. Although you can create and publish dashboard items with
Design permissions, you cannot assign or change permissions for dashboard items unless you also have
Full Control (Site) or Site Collection Administrator permissions.
Use the SharePoint Permissions dialog box to assign or change user permissions for a dashboard item. You can open the
SharePoint Permissions dialog box from Dashboard Designer or from the SharePoint list or document library that contains the dashboard item. The following sections describe both methods.
Edit user permissions in Dashboard Designer
In the Workspace Browser, click PerformancePoint Content or
Data Connections, depending on the item that you want to modify. Then, in the center pane, double-click the dashboard item to open it for editing.
In the ribbon, click the Home tab, locate the Item group, and then click
Permissions. A browser window opens, which enables you to view or change the SharePoint permissions for the dashboard item that you opened.
Use the SharePoint permissions dialog box to modify the user permissions for your dashboard item, and then save your changes.
Edit user permissions in a SharePoint list or document library
Locate the dashboard item that you want to modify in its SharePoint list or document library.
Select the check box that is next to the name of the dashboard item. At first glance, you might not see a check box next to your dashboard item. The check box is visible when you put your cursor next to the
Title column, which is located next to the name of the dashboard item. The ribbon appears in the SharePoint site.
In the SharePoint ribbon, click List Tools, and then click
Items. Locate the Manage section, and then click
Document Permissions. A SharePoint Permissions dialog box opens. This enables you to view and change the user permissions for the item that you selected.
Use the SharePoint Permissions dialog box to modify user permissions for your dashboard item, and then save your changes.
Please tell us if this approach shows different permissions assigned and solves your problem.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Martin

  • I have an older mac running 10.4.11. When I try to update to firefox 3.6.28 I get an error message: "...you do not have sufficient privileges..."

Currently running firefox 3.0.4. I downloaded 3.6.28 successfully. When I tried to install it by sliding the firefox icon over onto the applications icon I got a message saying an item named firefox already exists and do I want to replace it with the newer one I am moving. I clicked "replace." Then I get a message saying that the operation cannot be completed because I do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items. How can I complete this install?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
*Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install

  • Can't access 2nd hard drive - " ..you do not have sufficient privileges"

I recently performed an Erase & Install on my PowerPC G5. Everything is fine with the main HD, but not with my 2nd hard drive; I can't access it (The folder "Hard Drive 2" could not be opened becuase you do not have the sufficient privileges).
The icon for it appears on my desktop with a lock on it, but when I hit Control-I to Get Info there is no option to Unlock the volume. Furthermore, under Sharing & Permissions all Privileges are listed as "Custom" and amongst the usual Names (system, admin, everyone" there are 2 additional headings, both (unknown). When I try to change any of the settings to Read & Write (or anything, for that matter), the change does not stick and it reverts back to Custom immediately.
Lastly, when I try to add myself to the Name list, it also does not stick and i remain un-added. I have checked the "Ignore ownership on this volume" box with no changed results.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

Glad to hear! Sometimes the awesome power of the root user is what is needed. I have been a less than enchanted user of Unix for maybe 29 years now, avoiding wherever possible but gritting my teeth and dealing with it when absolutely necessary. That a little Unix insight is useful from time to time with OS X is a bit of a blessing, considering the alternatives.

The previous version of Firefox is still on and operational. I get this message when I try to drag the Firefox icon to the application file icon. Since this is my computer, and I am the administrator, I don't know what privileges I lack, or on which items. If there is a way to correct this I would like to do so and activate the new version. It looks like the new version is 7.0.1 for Mac OS. This happens everytime I try to load the new version by dragging the icon.
