Software Update says You Do Not Have Permission
I have seen other posts where someone was able to look at a Install.log from the Console app and was hoping for the same. I can update this post with my install log details if needed and black out personal info.
When I run software update, no matter which app, they all fail because I do not have rights. Only user on Mac and have no pswd set today as admin. Never had a permission issue until a few months ago and can't figure out.

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

Thanks in advance!!!Looks like this is a permission issue with account you logged in in your operating system or account if any you chooses to run you SQL Server installation . Or for executing setup file try using run as administrator.

I have the sam problem just upgrading to iOs6.0.1. iTunes returns the following error:
Ive tried updating via my device (New iPad) and same problem.
I started downloading the update last week but stopped it for reasons I cannot remember. Now it seems that Ive clogged my system.
My iTunes is up to date. I have however not run any Quicktime or iCloud updates cause i do not use the software. Will it make a difference.
Also my Windows updates might be a bit outdated, say about a month or so.
Please help, very frustrating!
Also sorry but while Im here I have another question. A while ago the brightness level of my iPad adjusted by itself (not Auto Adjust). Its like it dimmed via Auto Adjust and did not "un-dim" and now Im forced to run brightness at 100% and consequently is hard on battery life. Any ideas? -

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting. -
10.7.4 in Software update, 'don't have permission', cannot run combo client
Software Update says that 10.7.4 is available for download. I attempted to install it and type in all my usual password info, but the system says:
'The update “Mac OS X Update” can’t be saved. You don't have permission.'
I then downloaded the combo client and attempted to run the package. It stated that 'The installation failed. The Installed can't create the folder "/var/folders/z7.....etc......'
Not exactly sure what is happening. I've tried repairing permissions, and it did not work. I am the only user on the account. Any ideas?Called Apple Support. They had me create a new Admin account and install the update. Looks like the update is downloading fine now. They scheduled a call back to help me repair my original Admin account because they said it's now screwed up.

I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed in two computers. The hard drive of my home computer crashed and I had no time to deactivate the software. The hard drive needed to be formatted. How can I activate the software CS5 again ? Thank you for an answer.
If it's the same computer, same CPU and same HD, no de-activation or re-activation should be necessary.
Install from scratch and apply all updates manually.
Please do a forum search. I and others have repeatedly answered the question about failed updates of CS5 a whole bunch of times recently.
Bottom line: the Adobe auto updater is utterly useless in CS5 and prior versions. You need to download the updates and apply them manually yourself.
I and others have even supplied the links for Mac and Win, which you haven't even bothered to specify. -

After I installed the iLife software, I cannot access iPhoto. I made sure that I am updated to the newest iPhoto. It gives me the following message:
"You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto."
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?

Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
