"you must shut down your computer"
I know this is a kernel panic of some sort and I took my macbook pro in a couple weeks ago and they replaced the hard drive and it's been fine until I got this message again.

"You must shut down your computer" error. Do I need to do something?
Hi,
A few minutes ago my Macbook Pro (late 2009 model running 10.7.2) crashed and flashed the "You must shut down your computer" sign. I rebooted and at the moment the MBP is up and running again but I am not sure whether I should take it in for servicing or not. The kernel panic report is attached.
Thanks for your response.

Message "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now"
I am in OS 10.8.5 on a Mac Pro. I get repeated message upon start-up "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" Restarting does not stop the message. Nor does canceling it. It keeps occuring, blocking my ability to do applications. Because it comes to the front all the time, and the "shutdown" button is lit, if I inadvertently hit a return key while typing something else, the computer shuts down. I have a western digital backup disk-dismounting that has no effect. I have also run the disk utility permissions repair a few times to no avail.
Thanks for any advice.
Nov 26, 2013This might happen if your power button is malfunctioning. Remember a slight tap of the power button will bring up that screen. Bring it in for service if it is readily reproducible.

"Are you sure you want to shut down your computer?" prompt pops up for no reason and continues to pop up after selecting Cancel. How can I stop this?
Mac Pro. OS 10.6.8Then I suggest you read this thread regarding the 30" Apple Cinema Display and that particular message pop up... several possible causes... common denominator, the display.

I see a small window displaying "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now". How do I stop appearing this window
Is this after you've chosen to Shutdown from the Menu, or just on it's own?
You can press the esc key to cancel, or Enter key to shutdown.
Check your System Preferences>Energy Saver>Schedule & see if it's set to shutdown at a certain time. -
Recurring Message "You Shut Down Your Computer Because of a Problem"
I had a computer crash and since then I get a prompt after login (administrator or any other account) stating: "You shut down your computer because of a problem" and even when I choose to open the apps that were open during the crash it still prompts me again after a reboot.
Steps I have taken:
1. Booted into recovery and performed a disk and permissions repair to no avail
2. Attempted to login on other accounts and received same error.
3. Used Onyx to clear the cache on boot, kernel as well as applications
4. Used Oynx to rebuild the LaunchServices and dyld's shared cache.
Still have the problem even after booting into Safe Mode (prompt did not appear then, but reappeared when booting normally)
Any ideas.Well this is the latest cut from the shutdown system log:

Has the "You shut down your computer because of a problem" message changed?
When I restart the computer after a Kernal Panic I get the message "You shut down your computer because of a problem. Click Report to see detailed information and send a report to Apple"; 2 buttons are shown: "Ignore" and "Report...". For some time now, when I click on "Report..." the message disappears but I used to get a window allowing me to type in information about (something like) what I was doing prior to the problem occurring with a button (something like) 'Send Report". Since the "Report" button now causes the message to disappear, is a Report still going to Apple? Thank you.
Open Console app
View the System Diagnostic Reports by clicking on the disclosure triangle next to it in the log list. If the log list isn't visible, click the Show Log List button.
Look for the latest report starting with "kernel"
Select the report and it will show in the pane on the right.
Select everything in the report except the Anonymous UUID.
Copy and paste it into a reply here. -
My Mac Mountain Lion desktop computer keeps saying, "You shut down your computer because of a problem." How do I keep this from happening?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports. -
"Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" message on start up
This morning on startup I received the popup message "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?". Canceling has no effect. The message just reappears on restart. I've verified the disk; it's fine. I've repaired permissions and I get this message: "Warning: SUID file System/Library/Core has been modified and will not be repaired. Any ideas as to what is going on?
Can you perhaps look in the console (/utilities/console) and watch for what's written around the time of the dialog?
Perhaps an indication is there. -

It sounds like you need a new battery. Does it show any charge left when you unplug AC?
If it does, try this:

I use my PowerPC Quicksilver G4 (2.1), 867 MHz, 1.5 GB standart video card system 10.4.11 to scan (lack of driver for my Mac Pro 10.6.8)
The G4 has been running flawless, now I get kernel panics every time (shut down your computer). When it stays on I get blotched video
left-over spots, tearig and then shut down your computer...
I did all recommended software tests Diskutility, rebuild with DiskWarrior and Apples full Hardware test. Everything comes out fine!
I am at the end of my know how. Thank you for any help

Yes I ran short and the Extended Test. All pass. One of the first things I did is Safe Boot several times I also repaired permissions. Safe boot takes no longer than before the crashes and as long as I stay in safe boot mode it won't crash. What does that mean?I also ran MacJanitor and removed the SCCUZI card Apple put in when I bought the G4 as well as an M-Audio Delta 66 card which I do not use (both) anymore. I also started up on an external firewire drive 10.4.6. It also (crashes) does the same thing.
I was hoping somebody understands the crash report I enclosed? Isn't that suppose to say what went wrong?
Thank you again for your input BDAqua

I performed a software update and the system is installing an update but it has been running for over 24hrs and keeps saying "This may take a few minutes, don't shut down your computer" Can anyone help?
Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

Pciimaq.sys causes nt40 to crash during booting?
I'm trying to install a 1408 IMAQ card. Anyhow, the system running NT40+SP6 does not manage to boot anymore. It allways presents me with a blue-screen, telling me that PCIIMAQ.SYS causes some kind of adress error. What can I do to fix this? Regards,
