You need at least 14.8GB os free space (My drive is 36GB)

Hello.
I just got a new 10k rpm Sata drive for my powermac G5.
I put the drive on, boot the system with the DVD, formated the drive with disk utility, OS Extended (Journaled) but when go back to install that drive have a red warning sign and it says that I need at least 14.8GB of free space and on the icon it appears 36GB free space. I really do not know what is happening. Someone can help me?
Thank you.

Hello filipe:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
I suggest you contact the manufacturer of the drive (E-mail or snail mail) and ask the question.

I get an error message when importing from iPhoto that says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space." the drive is empty, I just reformatted it to Mac OSX journaled.

I'm guessing this is an extrenal drive, correct? If so make sure the library you're importimng into is really located on the external drive. By default Aperture creates its library in your home pictures folder.

It occurs in the \usr\sap\jupgrade\log\CHECKS.LOG file, when I run the 'General Checks' stage of the' PREPARE Module Status' program.
I am trying to patch a SAP 7.01 SAP Portal to EHP2. The server is running Windows 2003 SP2, MS SQL Server 2008 SP1. I believe that the versions of both the OS and DB are sufficient for EHP2. The upgrade will use a 7.2 kernel and I think that the software versions are sufficient for that too.

I have tried to continue by selecting:
Reselect PREPARE modules to be executed again
    and chose Finalization. Then Continue.
    But it says:
Module selection is invalid Unable to execute module 'Finalization'. Module 'Finalization' can run only after module 'General checks' has run successfully
Then I ran the General checks module again, but it failed again with the same error.
Please can you suggest how I can proceed?
    Thanks.

Cannot update my phone as message comes through "updating to iOS 7.0.4 requires at least 610 MB of free space on your iPhone.  Please change your media sync options to make more storage available"
What media sync options?  Where are they ? How do I change them?

Afraid, this doesnt help.  I've already unselected about 100 iTunes, resynced, and I still get the same message about 610 MB needing to be deleted.
What is so magic about 610 MB as a number?
Is this anything to do with iCloud? I was on the free 20 MB offeruntil last month and then got downgraded to 5 because I could n't see the need for paying for extra Cloud space.   Is this the reason why?

  • Increasing free space on drive C

My computer was really low on free space on drive C. It seemed as if Adobe programs were eating up space on drive C. I managed to increase the free disk space from 2.7 GB to 8 GB.

    1. Delete picture folders from C:\Documents and Settings\Main Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Cache
Bridge apperantly saves some files automatically. I had some old photos there that I'd already backed up.
    2. Delete C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache
    3. In premiere pro cs4: Edit>Preferences>Media change the location of Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database from drive c to any other drive.

    You are playing with fire!
The proper way to control and purge these caches can be found as follows in Bridge:
    Edit=>Preferences=>Cache
provides facilties to set the location of the Bridge cache, control its maximum size, to compact the cache, and to purge the Bridge cache.
    Edit=>Camera Raw=>Camera Raw Cache
provides facilities to set the location of the Camera Raw cache, control its maximum size, and to purge the Camera Raw cache.
    Don't go willy-nilly deleting files!

  • There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 4GB of free space.

I have over 250 GB free space yet aperture still tells me i nedd more than 4 BG when importing my pictures (2 gb ) from iphoto library to apertura library ???
    Any suggestions ??

And how much free space is on your system drive?
I strongly suspect that the system drive is nearly full: My guess: Aperture could not access the library on our external drive and tried to write to your system drive.
    Then your options are:
create plenty of free space on the system drive
or find out why the extrenal cannot be accessed by Aperture
Reasons, why the external can not be read may be:
it is a network volume (that is not recommended for Aperture)
or the formatting is wrong. You need MacOS X extended formatting:
If necessary, reformat your external volume using disk utility and repair the permissions on the  volume.

  • There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 10GB of free space.

Hi - I am hoping someone can help.  I have nothing in my Aperture library currently.  I have 77 GB of free space on my hard drive.  Why will it not let me import my pictures?  I've deleted trash, and wracked my brain to figure it out, but I'm stumped.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

Is the drive your are attempting to use internal or external. If external is it formatted OS Extended? Aperture requires that the library be on a probably formatted drive.
If thats not the cause post back your hardware setup, type of drive, etc.

  • Safety Margin - Remaining Free Space - Storage Drives

Hello my friends - haven't been here for a while - hope all is well.
As a good rule of thumb regarding 'Operating System Drives', and probably 'Storage Drives' as well, it's my understanding one should leave approx. 10% of the total capacity of the drive FREE. My concern mainly focuses on external storage drives for Video, and other Media. You guys have any comments or latest news about this?
    Thank You

I'd review it in terms of file modification.  If I were using these for "data" but was frequently modifying the files then I'd leave more room, kind of like your OS is constantly modifying files and that's why you need to give it lots of space.  In my case I almost never modify files once they are on the archive drives and I perhaps take it to an extreme - 320MB free on a 160GB drive which is 0.2%.  I do have a second "data" drive in my computer that is used only for media, but since I often modify those files I leave at least 4 GB free.  Still, most of those files are 2-5MB MP3s so I am less worried about fragmentation of the files themselves (vs. free-space fragmentation) than if they were 1GB videos.  While I'm at it, I do have the OS on its own 70GB partition with 55GB free.  I keep all my data files (and even some applications) on a separate partition so the OS can really do what it wants with the OS partition.
I do verify the drives when I do plug them in once or twice a year.  Some may say, "Too little space! Too little space !" but honestly in 10 years of doing this I have never had an issue with the drives apart from one bad sector (which probably would have happened anyway).  All these archive drives have duplicates (except, of course, where I have an original commercially pressed CD) so if something does happen...
Oh! Oh! One of my pet peeves - "percentage free".  I'd be happy if somebody can explain a rationale for this in this era of greatly varying drive sizes.  If an OS requires 18 GB for operating space then 18 GB on an 80 GB drive is going to be a very different percentage than 18 GB (or even 20GB if you allow extra for drive overhead) on a 1000 GB drive.  I figure Tiger seems to level off at 6GB VM on my computer so I'll give it 18GB to do its thing (and as I said above I really gave it its own big partition).  When I moved it to a bigger drive it didn't seem to change its requirements; ergo its % free demand dropped.
    Welcome back, BTW.

  • NOT using xp_cmdshell, Can we check free space of drives in windows servers?

    Hello all,
I have a strange situation here(may not be to you), as per client security standards,
I should NOT use xp_cmdshell. Adding to this, I was asked to generate a report daily about drives and their free spaces.
Having with xp_cmshell, we have numerous ways to execute this task easily but
NO xp_cmshell. Also, I can't use xp_fixeddrives system proc because it doesn't show-up mounted drives.
So, it would be great if you can share any other possible options using SQLCMD, PowerShell, T-SQL scripts etc that we can get the drives list (including mount points, root directory(C$), Quorum drive, MSDTC drives) and their free spaces.
I tried a couple of ways like using  sys.dm_os_volume_stats() function which comes in SS2012. But, couldn't help.
Appreciate your help and time in regarding.
    Thank you all!!

Is powershell an option for you?
If yes, its quite easy to come with PS script for this
    see examples here

As far as I know sys.dm_os_volume_stats  only gives the details ofabase files exist

  • Deleted 75GB of files though it did not free space on drive?

I deleted over 75GB of files from my Macbook Pro (my iPhoto database) and when I Get Info on the hard drive it does not show that it freed up space, this is after I emptied the trash. Any ideas why?
    Thanks.

iPhoto has it's own trash. You need to empty that. Right-click on the Trash "album" and select Empty Trash.
Or, select the Trash, and then click the Empty Trash button in the top-right of the window.

  • My volume mac os x looks 0 KB available space what should I do to free space on drive

disck drive mac os x looks full but its about 75GB free what should i do to free space on Disk drive

    First action: Empty the trash.
Than do a search on this forum... you will for sure find a lot of suggestions since the matter was for sure discussed before.

  • After using "erase free space," hard drive has almost no available capacity

I decided to clean all the files off my iMac as I wasn't using it as my primary computer anymore. After deleting the files, I used Disk Utility and used "erase free space" with the 7x option. I also emptied the Trash folder.
When I checked the HD, I found:
    Capacity: 297.77 GB
    Available: 4.68 GB
    Used: 293.09 GB
This makes no sense to me, since there is very little on the computer (some applications). Also, before I started, I know there was about 260 GB available.
I'd appreciate some advice on how to "free up" the available space that I know must be there.
    Thanks!

Hi, sounds like the secure erase didn't finish maybe & left a big invisible file on there.
How much free space is on the HD, where has all the space gone?
OmniDiskSweeper is likely the easiest/best, and is now free...

  • HT201364 To install Mavericks, you need at least 2 GB of memory and I only have 1 GB. Can I load more memory?

Can I load more memory and where do I purchase it?

Yes, you can, though you'd need to tell us your exact model of iMac before we could tell you specifically what memory you will need and how much you can expand to. There are a number of good vendors; I've used Crucial and Other World Computing (OWC). Both have been of high quality and good service, and either can tell you exactly what you'll need for your iMac. Other folks here may have additional vendor recommendations.
I'd definitely recommend expanding beyond 2GB. It won't cost that much more and your performance is almost sure to be better than if you just get the minimum 2GB.
    Regards.

  • TS1503 Updating to iOS 7.1 requires at least 610 MB of free space on your iPhone. Please change your media sync options to make more storage available. How do I do this?

How do I change media sync options on my iPhone 5?

When you get this message there is no alternative but to delete content from your phone, this per my conversation with Apple support a few minutes ago. In that cast try to delete only free apps or things like podcasts that can easily be restored from the original source should you desire to do so.
iTunes is a very poorly written program with an ancient interface--in 2014 it does not even support windowing. You are foolish to rely on iTunes for backing up and restoring whatever programs or data in order to upgrade the iOS. Apple's only concern with restoring and backing up data centers on DRM protrected music purchased from iTunes, nothing else and is designed to not restore media files not purchased from iTunes. Hence in my experience Apple telephone support will tell you to use third party software for transferring media from an old to a new phone when you encounter the inevitable problems. If as I do you use the phone for business software back up your data in the way that program deigns and do not rely on iTunes, particularly prior to upgrading the OS or transferring data to a new phone.

  • HT201364 Snow Leopard upgrade to Maverick  because I need 2 GB of memory and 8GB of available space. How can I meet these requirements or whichever one is needed.  Alex

I was invited to upgrade Snow Leopard to Maverick but as is the way of these things am not actually allowed to when I try as I am told I need 2 GB memory and 8 GB space (although I suspect it may be one or other but not both). Anyway it is all double Dutch to me:can anyone help me meet the requirements please?

If you don't have 2 GBs of installed RAM, then you need to buy more RAM. You can install:
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
You can purchase new RAM to replace what you have at:
    OWC
    DataMem
    Crucial.com
You need at least 15 GBs of free space on your hard drive. If you don't have that much, then your drive is too full. Either remove data you no longer need, transfer files to an external hard drive then delete them from this drive, or install a larger hard drive.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
