"you shut down due to a problem" info box after boot from normal shutdown
After a normal shut down, (eject external drive, Click Shut Down from Apple menue).
Normal start up routine (push power button on back) results in Info Box telling me that I shfut down due to a problem ( i did not) and if I want to open windows open at time of shut down I should selct the check box and let it start up.
Where do you suppose this came from? and what do I do about troubleshooting ??
Thanks Roger

Recurring Message "You Shut Down Your Computer Because of a Problem"
I had a computer crash and since then I get a prompt after login (administrator or any other account) stating: "You shut down your computer because of a problem" and even when I choose to open the apps that were open during the crash it still prompts me again after a reboot.
Steps I have taken:
1. Booted into recovery and performed a disk and permissions repair to no avail
2. Attempted to login on other accounts and received same error.
3. Used Onyx to clear the cache on boot, kernel as well as applications
4. Used Oynx to rebuild the LaunchServices and dyld's shared cache.
Still have the problem even after booting into Safe Mode (prompt did not appear then, but reappeared when booting normally)
Any ideas.Well this is the latest cut from the shutdown system log:

Has the "You shut down your computer because of a problem" message changed?
When I restart the computer after a Kernal Panic I get the message "You shut down your computer because of a problem. Click Report to see detailed information and send a report to Apple"; 2 buttons are shown: "Ignore" and "Report...". For some time now, when I click on "Report..." the message disappears but I used to get a window allowing me to type in information about (something like) what I was doing prior to the problem occurring with a button (something like) 'Send Report". Since the "Report" button now causes the message to disappear, is a Report still going to Apple? Thank you.
Open Console app
View the System Diagnostic Reports by clicking on the disclosure triangle next to it in the log list. If the log list isn't visible, click the Show Log List button.
Look for the latest report starting with "kernel"
Select the report and it will show in the pane on the right.
Select everything in the report except the Anonymous UUID.
Copy and paste it into a reply here. -
My Mac Mountain Lion desktop computer keeps saying, "You shut down your computer because of a problem." How do I keep this from happening?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports. -
mac shut down due to problem; I rebooted fine. how do I determine what the problem was?
When shut down and rebooted, the Mac OS X does background maintenance on the system. That can solve minor issues.
Beyond this, it is a good idea to run Disk Repair yourself just to make sure.
Reboot with the option key held down. On the screen that comes up select the Recovery disk icon and Continue.
On the next screen Clcik Disk Utility and Continue.
In DU, in the list on the left select the drive to be repaired - click the item that is indented to the right, not an an item whose name starts on the far left.
Click First Aid, then Repair Disk.
After that is done, quit DU and restart as usual. -

HP Laptop Quickly Shuts Down Due to Thermal Overheating
I have an HP laptop that quickly shuts down due to thermal overheating. If the laptop has been sitting for hours to cool off, it will shut down in <= 5 minutes.
Laptop Details:
Model: HP 2000-239WM
Processor: Celeron(k) Dual Core CPU T 3500
bios #: F.19, 6/16/2011
Things tried:
Took the computer apart and cleaned the fan with compressed air. As soon as you turn on the laptop, you can hear the fan running like mad.
Booted the system from a Live USB Drive version of Ubuntu
I would like to run a hardware diagnostic but the system responds saying that it will take 27 minutes and the laptop shuts down well before then.
Any ideas about what might be the problem or what else to try?
I would appreciate any help you could me.You could try buying a external fan to set the laptop on when you use it to prevent overheating

IPod shuts down due to "low battery" even when fully recharged
OK..
I got big problems with my iPod battery.
I've already sent my iPod to Apple once, but they returned it saying nothing is wrong and giving "helpful" tips about turning the backlight off in order to make the battery last longer..
Well, I sorta disagree about there not being any problem. And I did feel a bit insulted about the claim that my iPod is not malfunctioning as well as the hints about me being a retard who needs to be told that using the backlight continuously might have an affect on battery life.
(but in case my retardedness is to blame for all my problems with my iPod, please let me know. )
During he last 2 months or so, the iPod keeps shutting down due to "low battery" even though it's been connected to the USB port for, like, 20 hours straight.
Tried different ports and computers without any luck.
The recharging-icon is usually moving while connected to the computer, but I don't get the "battery is fully loaded" message (or icon?) anymore.
Sometimes when the iPod has shut itself down due to low battery, it can still be used for ~10 hours by turning it on/resetting multiple times. When that happens, the battery icon is at first "empty", but then bar suddenly goes to half full.
I also suspect that resetting it 7 times before plugging it into a USB-port helps. Occasionally.
No way to tell if there's 15 hours or 15 seconds life left in he battery. I just got got home from a 2 x 8,5 hour flight and the iPod shut down right after the first take-off So.. yeah.. I'm ****** off atm.:/
I've tried all the tricks I've found on the net (resetting, software updates etc.) but nothing helps.
Don't know if it could have any relevance, but it seems like the problem appears more often when playing audio books - long mp3 files, that is...
Help, anyone? Pretty please?
PC Windows XPI have the exact same problem. About 2 weeks before the end of my 1-year warranty, I contacted Apple about the problem. They sent a box with prepaid shipping (I paid for it) and I sent the iPOD back to Apple. Today, I checked the status of my repair and the screen reads:
Step 1 - Request
Product received (05-Apr-2006)
Step 2 - Service
No trouble found (11-Apr-2006)
Step 3 - Return
Original product shipped (11-Apr-2006)
I contacted Apple Customer Service and was told that they ran diagnostics and nothing was wrong with the unit. I asked them if it mattered that I noticed problems with the iPOD that they don't seem to see and they said no. They said the problem could be with my charger, but I told them that I recently lost my charger and had used several different chargers that work with other peoples iPODs just fine. I even left it to charge overnight and the next day I could barely play one song. The woman I spoke with told me that if I had any problems with the iPOD after it was returned to me, I would have to send it back (they would not provide the box) and pay $225 since it is no longer in warranty .
My problem is that the unit was in warranty when I sent it, they didn't fix it (they couldn't find this very obvious problem), and now it isn't in warranty. The only way I can listen to music is to plug it into an A/C outlet while it is playing. My other option is to buy another mp3 player.
Has anyone else had this problem? Have you found a solution? Thanks! -
Your computer has shut down because of a problem
Hi there,
I have a Macbook Air which is about 3 months old now, and in the last couple of months, applications have started hanging, the keyboard is sluggish in Safari, and more specifically, I've had loads of times when I've opened the lid after the machine has been on sleep, and received the message "Your computer has shut down because of a problem".
I've been on to Apple support, and they took me through how to repair disk permissions, reset the System Management Controller, and clear the caches. But I just had the same thing this morning.
The latest kernel panic from the Console is shown below - is anyone able to shed any light on this?
Thanks
Stuart

Just updated my RAM and now iMac shuts down "due to error" when in FCPX
Hi there,
So, I just purchased FCPX last week. Edited one of my projects only to find that my RAM is overloaded and isn't allowing my computer to handle to workload. Therefore I upgraded my RAM today to the max (16GB). Get my iMac home and up and running, everything looks good. I start up FINAL CUT PRO X, load my Library.....then boom.....shut down "due to error". THREE TIMES. Below is my system and info on new RAM. PLEASE HELP ASAP AS THIS IS TIME SENSITIVE! I upgraded my RAM due to the suggestion that it would solve my slow rendering/choppy video playback in FCPX.
Thanks. Ashley

i cannot sit outside for more than 45 minutes without my ipad shutting down due to heat. is there a way to fix this?
What model iPad? What is the outside temperature?
When outside what are you doing on the iPad - running a graphic intensive app?
iPad operating ambient temperature: 0° to 35° C (32° to 95° F)
Cheers, Tom -
Macbook pro 2010 is crashing and nonstop clicking noise. cant forcequit either i am forced to shut down maually. whats the problem? does the hardrive needs to be replaced?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your hard disk is damaged. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427 Alternatively, you can use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone onto an external disk.
Then, look for a hard drive. You can use a 2'5" SATA hard drive, and you can buy it at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ Seagate and HGST drives have good performance, and 7200 rpm hard drives will give you a slightly better performance.
After installing it, start up from the clone (if you made a clone) or hold Command, Option and R keys while your Mac is starting (if you created a backup). In the second case, you just have to choose the option to restore a Time Machine backup and follow the steps.
In the case of a clone, use Disk Utility's Restore feature to restore the external drive content onto the internal disk > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html You may need to format the hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" -
How to stop your computer shut down because of a problem message
how do I stop my computer from showing "your computer shut down because of a problem" during the boot up cycle. I have the issue fixed that was causing this i'm just trying to stop the message from coming up at boot up.
Not knowing how you fixed it, here are a couple of things you can try.
Startup – You need to Restart Your Computer -
How do you shut down apps on the 5s?
How do you shut down apps on the 5s?
Been asked a thousand times in the past two days... look to your right under "More Like This" for related discussions. ------->
Or, take a look at the User Guide -
Since upgrading to Yosemite my computer (iMac late 2012 model) closes down instead of going to sleep. When I restart I get a message saying "your computer shut down because of a problem". Does anyone have similar problem? What is the solution?
Sorry, I was acting like it was an email. See below:
