i need to figure out what to use here,
imagine there is a panel, and inside of the panel there is a small oval moving like in right-left mechanism,
on the top of the panel there are located several
rectangulars along side of the panel,
when the oval in a conveyer belt moves, everytime it passes through those rectangulars i want them to change the colors,
do you get what i'm talking about?

Less than a year after purchasing a brand new, early-2011 Macbook Pro (still covered under Extended Apple Care) and, sadly, only a week or two after finally upgrading to 8GB RAM, I returned to my notebook after taking a shower and watched it suddenly shut itself down. It has not been responsive to the power button since then (although, see below.. I think I can fix it).
Genius Bar took one look at the visible moisture sensor you can see underneath where the RAM sits and declared it water-damaged. While I agree that either a short and/or corrosion is causing my MBP to malfunction, I don't believe it should void my warranty because the problem isn't that I spilled something on it.1
I hope someone can give me some insight into fixing this myself. Apple says "the Logic Board needs replaced" (a common CS response, I've noticed) the water damage voids my Extended Care + that it'll be at least $1200 and several weeks. Here's the situation:
MBP will not turn on just by pressing the power button. However, MBP consistently (every time) powers up when I do an SMC reset.
I have it in verbose mode and it begins booting. But, it will invariably turn off without warning anywhere between 30 seconds and 8-10 minutes after powering up.

Eighty percent of the time, it turns off during the pre-Xorg boot. However, I have also seen it fully boot, I log in, I'm able to peruse logfiles/etc. Safe Mode (holding shift) crashes early. Single-user mode makes no difference. PRAM/NVRAM/etc makes no difference. I can boot to the Recovery Partition but it turns off just the same (disk utility scan takes too long).
I haven't been able to really test the Internet Recovery because the hotel wireless takes too long. I did boot into Hardware Test and it passed the basic and extended tests (although it seemed to just be testing the RAM integrity.
I can boot from the optical drive with a FreeBSD 9 livecd and an Ubuntu 11.04 livecd. Of note is that the laptop shuts off consistently when FreeBSD begins the journaling services for the ZFS filesystem (every time).
Here is where this leads me to believe I'm at (I am not dogmatic here and would appreciate any corrections or insight):
It seems like there may be corrosive damage on the logic board but maybe it's isolated given the various consistencies in what's happening. It seems like whenever SATA is use, I lose power. When SATA isn't really used (the HW Test), the laptop has literally stayed on for days and days.
I want to get in there and clean up any corrosion with 91% isopropyl alcohol (9% distilled, non-conductive water).
I want to use a bootable OSX livecd with an "emergency console" so I can, basically, use boot options to step throught the boot process and see if I can isolate the problem.
Here is what I'm uncertain about and could use guidance:
Does any of this sound remotely reasonable to anyone who has been through this or am I delusional?
Any tips on identifying and cleaning any corrosion?
While I had made a bootable version of Lion via Disk Utility and a rescue disk with some third-party app, they are MIA and I don't have another Mac at the moment. Do I have any other options? Again, an install dvd is not exactly what I want -- more like a rescue dvd. I had read about some Apple Stores giving/copying bootable USB thumb drives like this to customers. But, I noticed that this is now on sale there for $80. I would use this like once and, ideally, could use my MBP to make more. $80 seems a bit much.
I should be able to step through the boot process in a way like what's possible with FreeBSD, no?
Anyone have any other specific troubleshooting tips?

To be totally honest, about 3 weeks prior I spilled some milk from cereal on the desk and a little bit got onto the battery. However, the notebook worked fine for the following weeks. I believe that the problems have been caused by ambient humidity ... I've been staying in a hotel that steams up the entire room when I take a shower. The windows are covered in water droplets so why wouldnt the MBP be affected? As noted, these problems began after I lingered in a hot shower.multiplryan wrote:

You can replace the logic board yourself if you are a DIY'er and save some money. -
My i pod touch was stolen about a week ago. Ive been looking for ways to find it and its been pretty hopless. I have owned 7 i pods in the last 5 years and they have all been stolen, I guess you could say im pretty unresponsiblle but I prefer to call it unfortunate. There should be some type of website where you can just type the serial # of your i pod and it could use google maps or something the track it down. I mean what age are we in, I'm sure if cars can drive them selves there should be no problem to construct an i pod traking app. I dont thing lawsuits are a good excuse either. America has the best justice system in the world and i dont think they be to agaist my idea. And if media were on our sides then CNN would on it like whie on rice. there word is very persuasive to people all over the world and everyone watches it. i know I'm just venting but something needs to be done to end the madness! I dont wana buy another I pod. i wana buy accessories for my i pod.
Apple provides the Find My feature through iCloud for those that want to take advantage of it. But to go further would most likely create invasion of privacy issues and raise legal concerns for Apple. Only police have the statory authority to track and that requires court orders. This comes up repeatedly when users loose objects, but Apple continues to say they do not track or attempt to find the lost objects.

The battery of my macbook died in 2 years and when I call the servise center to inform them cuse i personally am dissapointed but at the same time want to know the reason why something like this has happened ith a product of apple. Mr ****** (sr advisor) gets outrightly rude and tells me sorry but don't think that you can be an exception to it. Extremely shocked at this approach by apple. Then throughout the conversation he chose to mute me and wouldnt answer my queries. And when i asked him whos the serior I could talk to. He tells me "Im the seriormost that you can get upto..there is nobody above me you can talk to".
Now what do i do???

I do not like the new iphoto, it will not let you burn a photo cd directly from iphoto like it used to. It use to be simple, now it's not. I also think the faces feature is a waste of time and you can't disable it. Overall i am not happy with this new product i had to pay for. I had to update the iphoto i loved because they stopped letting you send your photo's to be printed from it. Apple is failing. It seems they are more after new sorces of revenue then keeping a good product.

I don't use the Faces feature, nor the Places one either, but I don't find them a waste of time. There's nothing to disable, just don't use them. Burning to optical media is going the way of the floppy disk. New computers of every brand are showing up now without optical drives. In five years you'll have trouble finding a computer with a built-in drive to buy and in 10, you'll find it hard to get a drive that will play optical media at all. iPhoto 08 was released in 2007 and that means they supported online printing services for 6 years. The installed base of iPhoto 08 is so small now that it's not worth their while. How you get from your inconvenience to "Apple is failing" is not clear to me. iPhoto 11 is a much more capable application that 08, complete with full non-destructive editing. -
Has anyone tried creating a plugin that you can type in a specific word, and if it comes up in the very top of the page (i think its refered to as the header) it closes the page or tab automatically? there is a program called POW! by AnalogX that does this, but its only good for IE. And Im a Firefox man. Can anyone look into this or maybe create a plugin that does what POW! does for IE? I will donate to the creater of a plugin that does that. Im so sick of pop ups that most pop up blockers miss.
The Firefox pop-up blocker is very effective. If you are getting a lot of pop-ups in Firefox, you may have picked up some Malware that is causing those pop-ups.

I have the newest version of iTunes and none of that works!!! I don't know where the Advanced Menu is. And I don't think you can select a song anymore. I need to make WAV Files to put them on Windows Media Player so i can download music on my Samsung Intensity 2.

Mac OS X Lion has dropped support for Rosetta, the feature that allowed you to run PowerPC apps on previous OS X systems. Check if you can find a newer version of the app you are trying to run that supports Intel processors.
What application are you trying to run? Maybe I can help you find a version that runs on Lion. -

Goto Trend.com and run a full scan using house call its free. Then please install virus protection unless you love replacing hard drives and memory chips. You have a bad malware or virus on your computer that is causing these issues. You can pick up from any where especially from game sites and you tube sites. Ounce your system is clean then we be able to help you repair damages. Go from there. I hope D. drive has not been damaged yet. Recovery is easy to do. Provided D drive was not effected. What I would do is purchase two things a very good anti virus software such as Trend Micro Titanium Pro. Farely in expensive and a set of recovery disks from HP. Then just insert recovery disks and install anti virus software. These computers are excellent and are easley maintainable. I know Trend Titanium Pro can scan your back up files from this effected computer when you add these files back on again. I would start backing up my personal filed while you wait for delivery of recovery factory recovery disc. Yes it is easy to do recoveries but I think your D. drive has been damaged based on what you wrote. That is why I recommend you purchasing a set recovery disc. -

As far as I know there is no US cell carrier that allows pay as you go with an iPhone. You can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4S at an Apple Store and try it with a non-supported carrier.
