You Tube Living Room

Quick note to mention that the 'You Tube Living Room' application freezes up my pc... I have to terminate internet explorer.
My PC is an XP machine about four years old - I do not have a webcam attached, maybe it was that.... there are not any error messages.

My curiosity got the better of me... I just tried it again.
I can be a bit more helpful - I get the intial login and can log in, however a few moments later the computer grinds to a halt - I can hardly get windows task manager to run. My pc is old, but I run lots of 3D graphics software and I never have a problem... the you tube living room app is definitely sucking the life out of it....
I don't like to be negative about such a great looking service, but I guess you need to know.

  • I have an ipad 2 and when connected to my wifi at home it will not download and play you tube videos quickly.  Do I need to upgrade my connenction speed?  What is the optimal speed?

I have an ipad2.  When connected to my wifi at home it will not download you tube videos for easy viewing.  Do I need to upgrade my connection speed?  Would 3 Mbps be enought or do I need to go to 6 Mbps.  I mainly use my ipad to view emails, browse the internet and watch you tube videos.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
There are a number of factors in the 'speed' equation. Any or all of them can affect the 'observed' speed of your connection.
    1. Are you in a neighborhood full of WiFi routers (and thus, lots of WiFi interference)? I can 'see' at least 22 other WiFi routers from my living room!
    2. What is the maximum connect speed and band and bandwidth available from your wireless router. Is it 802.11n or the older 802.11a/b/g? 300Mbits or 150Mbits? 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz or both? Does your router measure (QoS) Quality of Service and can it change 'channels' automatically?
    3. What is the observed strength of your wireless connection? Are you getting at least 80% signal when connected? Are there other people in your family also using significant bandwidth at the same time (Netflix, streaming video, streaming audio, game systems)
    4. What is the "advertised" speed of your current ISP connection?
    5. What is the measured throughput of your current setup.  Go to speedtest.net or use the free speedtest.net app available in the App Store.  Try several times, from different locations in your home, and at different times of day and night.
I have AT&T DSL advertised at 3Mbit/sec down and 512Kbit/sec up. My Speedtest.net measured throughput is about 2.4 Mbit/sec downstream and upstream is about 0.4Mbit/sec. I'm using a Motorola Netopia 2210-2 DSL modem. I have no problem viewing YouTube videos and other mobile video content on the iPad 2.  I'm connected wirelessly to a D-Link DIR-655 Gigabit router rated at 150Mbps at 2.4Ghz (only) with 802.11 b/g/n enabled. The interior of my home is within a range of 30-50 feet from the router and no more than 1 wall.  It is a single level concrete slab foundation of about 1500 sq. ft. with cathedral ceilings. I have successfully streamed ESPN3.com on my MacBook at the same time my son was streaming another ESPN3.com game on his MacBook Pro. I've streamed YouTube videos while my son was watching a NetFlix movie on his Wii game system. He's also successfully used Skype for extended 'teleconferences.' None of my devices are connected to HDMI on a large screen TV. 95% of the time, I can do iChat video without any signal breakup to my son (who is at a college with a Gigabit (1000Mbit) wired connection!). 5% of the time the connection drops. We haven't tried FaceTime (designed for mobile connections to be much less bandwidth-intensive, from what I understand) simply because we both have iChat on our computers.
So for me, a 3Mbit DSL connection is absolutely adequate, given all the other parameters mentioned. As the car manufacturers say, "Your mileage may vary."

  • After upgrading to version 6.02, I cannot find the "Download this video"command on right-hand top corner on the RealPlayer screen when viewing a video from You-tube.

    Cannot download video from You-tube.

I have been having the same issue for the last two weeks. No real indication as to why it ever began other than I had turned off my router and Airport Extreme Base Station off for a weekend while I was away from my place.
iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, all have no issues at all with my Airport Extreme Base Station. Can stay connected throughout my living room, bathroom, bedroom, no issues whatsoever.
My 5 month old MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Core i7 Airport is sometimes perfect, able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue. Then, for no reason, I won't be able to join my wireless network, or when I can join, I can't pick up an IP address. And then it will connect, pick up and IP, and then it won't browse. No real rhyme or reason to when this will happen, or when it works.
I thought that it was an issue with my MacBook Pro, but then my sister visited with her brand new MacBook Pro 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo, and while a month ago she was able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue, this weekend she had all of the same issues I was having.
My XBOX 360 and MacBook Pro have absolutely no issues with the wired connection. Only my WAN seems to have this issue.
Did you ever find anything more to this?

  • How do I select which bluetooth speakers to play out of? My iPod connects to both kitchen and living room speakers. My old iPod had a selection icon on the now playing screen, but my new one doesn't.

    Hi,
    Our setup
A new iPod Touch 5 with iOS 8.3.
Living room speakers that use a Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter.
Kitchen speakers that use an AmazonBasics Bluetooth 4.0 Audio Receiver.
The iPod connects to both but always wants to play to the kitchen. To play in the living room, we have to unplug the power to the kitchen speakers. Bluetooth settings screen doesn't let you select between Bluetooth connections. All I seem to be able to do is forget the connection.
We also have an old iPod Touch (not sure of the generation, but it has iOS 6.1.6). On that one, there is a little icon on the now playing screen that would open a little pull-down menu to let you select which Bluetooth connection to use for playing audio.
I don't see the "select output" icon on the new now playing screen
    Jimmy
PS the iPod seems very aggressive in connecting. I hear the living room speakers activate when my wife gets out of the car in the driveway. Then as she comes into the living room, the sound switches to the kitchen.

Thanks, this was the clue I needed to figure it out.
From Settings you can pull up Control Center.
In Control Center you can enable "Access from within Apps" (also "Access from Lockscreen")
Now when I'm playing music, I can swipe up from the bottom and a little control center window slides up. Neat - this is new since my old iPod. On this window, the name of the current Bluetooth connection appears. Tap on that, and a list of connected Bluetooth items appears. I just tap on the one I want to connect to and I am now playing through the speakers I want.

Help... Have ate in living room & bedroom & I could works fine on iPhone4 as well as ipad2 wifi. I have home sharing enabled on all but when I rented a movie it was all good & charged but the download took over 24 hours & only in the bedroom.... Please help

The remote app can either automatically find libraries available on a network (with home sharing available) or if you haven't got home sharing enabled, you can manually pair an itunes library with the remote app (using a number that is generated by the app and then typed into the itunes library).
That is why I am so confused, as it seems to be the home sharing that is the problem!

  • Need help configuring Cisco/Linksys wireless router to extend wi-fi signal to living room

My U-verse wireless gateway is in the back of our house. We live in an old 1920's home with solid wood walls. For our macbooks, we get a pretty decent signal, but my wife's iPad 2 get's poor wi-fi speeds. I bought a Cisco/Linksys WRT160N wireless N broadband router. I have a wired connection in my living room (going to a 4 port switch) then connected to my DVR. I tried hooking up the new router but ended up getting no signal on the iPad. In fact, it caused other issues. I ended up disconnecting it and re-booting my gateway. All came back fine. This wireless router replaces a similar unit that went out in after a power failure, so I know this can be done, but I forget exactly how I confiured the old one. I would like it to "extend" my signal to the living room, but I am also willing to create a new network (different SSID). Do I need to turn of DHCP? Are there any web sites that can assist me in configuring the router? I wish I didn't have to deal with this. The signal from the RG is great when you are in the back room (20+ down). But my wife gets about 3 down on her iPad in the living room. Thanks in advance.

    Hi ,
I was doing some research on how this can be done. It does not appear there is an option in the Cisco router to set it up as an access point, but there are several options you can do to extend your network.
The first thing you can do is just set it up as a router behind router setup, and you will just have two separate networks. Make sure the DHCP pool does not conflict with the U-verse's gateway of 192.168.1.x.
The second thing you can do is connect the Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports on your Cisco router instead of using the internet port. This should make it work like a smart switch.
With both setups, you want to probably change the SSID, network key, and wireless security settings to the same thing for wireless roaming abilities. That way, anyone that configures their wireless connection will be connected to both networks. Just make sure the wireless channels are not the same, and I would suggest having them at least 5 apart.
    Hope this helps.

I get a neighbor's wifi on my MacBook in my bedroom.  How can I extend the range to the MacMini in my living room?

You can't. It's not your network.

  • When I connect my apple tv to my access point upstair and connect my ipad to the same access point i cant see my apple tv when i open up the airplay menu on my ipad. but i can see the apple tv in the living room downstair which connect to the main router

I tried to set DMZ on my main router to have full access to ported to access point upstair which is in the ip of 192.168.1.2 and the main router in the living room is the gateway router with the 192.168.1.1 ip.
I still cant see apple tv after i try the DMZ method.
    any suggestion ?
These network ports are used by Apple TV for communications on your network.
TCP port 123 is used to communicate with a network time server.
TCP port 3689 is used to communicate with iTunes while using the iTunes Library Sharing feature.
UDP port 5353 is used by Apple TV for automatically finding computers with iTunes on your network using Bonjour.
TCP port 80 is used for communicating with podcast servers.
TCP port 80 and 443 are used for basic and secure communications with the iTunes Store via the Internet.
TCP port 53 is used for regular DNS.
These are well-known ports used by Apple products, like iTunes. If you can use all the features of iTunes, these ports are likely already open on your firewall or NAT router. Note: These ports may also used by other services such as YouTube and Flickr.

When the Apple TV is paired with a remote, it means only that remote can control it, when it's not paired any remote can control it. You will need a remote for each of your devices.

  • Upgraded my Living Room Apple TV to 5.2 and now it no longer shows up on my iPads as an option

Upgraded my Living Room Apple TV to 5.2 and now it no longer shows up on my iPads as an option to play back my iTunes rented movies. Any idea why or how to get it to reappear? I did not update my bedroom Apple TV and it still appears as an option. Many thanks in advance.

Did you check to see if AirPlay was still eneabled on ATV after the update?  Was the iPad/iPhone updated to iOS 6.1?

  • "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Living Room Apple TV". An unknown error occurred (406)."

This error message keeps popping up overtime I try to play an iTunes bought tv show from my mac book pro to my apple tv "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Living Room Apple TV”. An unknown error occurred (406)."
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it. Both devices are registered on the same apple id and password. This problem just started happening within the last week or so but prior to that everything was working as it should have. In fact since the launch of icloud things have been glitchy for me with purchasing and playing off the apple tv as well.
    Can someone please help?'
    Thanks

Unfortunately Apple's error codes are very much a mystery (at least to me), try restarting the Apple TV, iPad and router. If that doesn't help look into whether you might be encountering interference on your network.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • Apple TV in Living Room and Airplay from Mac Mini .. what about Keyboard and Mouse?

Now I know that you can air play the mac mini to the apple tv, but before I go out and buy an apple tv I want to know something. My living room is a little away from the room where the mac mini is, how can I have the keyboard / mouse work with the apple tv to wirelessly control it? Do I have to buy an additional keyboard / mouse? Some people have mentioned the remote somehow works, but I need the keyboard and mouse to work, any tips from the pros?

I'm not a huge fan of Airplay Mirroring - what do you intend to use it for?
How old is your Mini and is it able to Mirror?
    You need:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)

If you don't meet the specs try AirParrot software.

  • I keep getting "incorrect password " when I try to access my living room wifi ...

Every time I try to access wifi in my living room I get a "incorrect password " on my ipad ...When I access wifi in my room , I have no problem .. I also have an iOS touch which it connects to living room wifi with no problem ... I've checked password , turned off and on wifi , reset to factory settings my ipad and nothing ...

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Older iBook G3 Has Bad Smell That Fills Up Living Room When Lid Opened

Folks, a client dropped off an older iBook G3 Friday and it was placed into a large plastic bag, along with its power supply and was closed. Yesterday I opened the lid and plugged it in, went outside to water the garden and after several minutes when I returned, the whole living roomed smelled like BO, or like someone who had been drunk for a week and passed out without a bath. I know the lady who uses it and she is a very tidy person, so she wouldn't have caused it
Granted, this is an older laptop and I always clean all laptops, the keyboard, screen, mousepad, etc with several special cloths and cleaners. My iBook G4 that I clean at least twice a week has no aroma, odors at all, always smells clean and fresh like any laptop should.
The computer had major problems and after 2 hours of troubleshooting, I just erased the HD, installed Panther on a 9GB HD and then a big kernal panic message and frozen cursor. Smell is still there. Could the HD be causing this odor, it is the org and quite ready to upgrade.
I have heard from others about this same odor problems. Any suggestions on how I can safely clean it up with sprays or whatever? We were going to give the laptop to a friend as a gift when it's fixed until she can afford to buy a new ProBook
    Thanks SteveB

Seriously, I just got back from the Apple Store after waiting 2 hours for "genius" support. Apple refuses to acknowledge this problem -- the tech says unless he hears it from an Apple engineer it could be "anything". I asked him to smell the iBook and he agreed it smelled bad, but he couldn't confirm exactly what was causing it.
I pointed him to this post and the numerous others on Apple's Discussions and Support forums, but this is just "anecdotal".
I think if you have this many people publicly suffering a problem, there are undoubtedly 10 times that many suffering in silence or who dumped it on someone without telling them about the problem (I mean how many people want to buy a USED SMELLY IBOOK?) Yeah, it's a huge joke on the forums... 31,000 hits on google alone for "ibook smelly".
How many people have to report this problem or take their ibooks in before someone at Apple DOES DIAGNOSE THE REAL CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM?!?! Look, I'll gladly donate my laptop, take it, ship it back to Cupertino, have the hardware engineers pour over it for 2 months. But you won't take me up on the offer or anyone else for that matter, will you?
Apple Support, I think you are full of it. You know exactly what this problem is and for product liability reasons you have decided to treat your customers like stupid sheep and simply refuse to "confirm or deny" any problem exists.
I don't appreciate it and it will weigh in my mind heavily as I decide my next computer purchase. I can't stand Vista, but Ubuntu is looking very good these days and it doesn't SMELL like sweaty armpits!
(I realize a lot of other iBook owners don't have this problem, which is wonderful, because it really is a great little notebook. But I'm sure you would feel the same way if it didn't smell so sweet.)

  • 3D or smart TV, which one would be best for living room?

This time I have planned to upgrade my 5 years old Vizio TV to any 2012 smart TV. I want a good looking display screen for my living room, price isn’t the issue for me though, TV design and picture quality are. I am debating between 3d or smart TV from LG, Samsung and Vizio but, all the other options would be welcome as well.

CNET also noted the best in "features" (this would largely weight in "smart" options) as the Samsung ES series being 1st place then the LGs noted above by Dval coming in a close second.
Rwillen is correct also as plasmas own the PQ market. 3 or 4 of this years model got a "10" by cnet and I think the closest LEDs were Elite and XBR at an 8 ( I think) with the LGs coming in at "7" or lower.
So the question is more of what you weight your opinion on. Obviously it's going to be give and take, just read reviews and judge for yourself what is the important factors are as each person is different.
