You've probably heard it all before but.....

.... perhaps you can help a not-very-technically minded new user. 
I moved from Talk Talk to BT last June. Prior to that, during my six years with TT, apart from two or three occasions when the service disappeared for several hours, my telephone and braodband simply worked - 24 hours a day with an always on, fast connection.  I almost forgot where the router was, so reliable was it. 
Then I moved to BT because the monthly subscription was quite a bit less and the overall offer seemed so good.  Since then:
>The wireless connection to both laptops and smartphones often drops out mid-task and either auto-reconnects or has to be manually reconnected.
>The wired connection (via the plug-in mains connector thingys) is often too slow to connect to BBC iplayer on my BT vision box. When it does connect the programme runs for a few seconds then freezes for a few seconds then runs then freezes etc - unusable!
>The internet speed varies - I expect that.  But sometimes it reduces to less than 0.3 MBps.  This is completely unacceptable. That photo which should download in three seconds ends up taking a minute or more.  It's like going back to a dial up connection.
>When connected to a web page as often as not I get the 'Internet Explorer is unable to display that page' notice. On clicking the refresh button the desired page usually then appears.
Apart from waiting until the contract penalty period runs out and leaving BT is there anything I can usefully do to improve matters?

    Dear all
    After having problems with my flash player for 2 weeks I decided to use my last resort, this forum!
    I haven't updated my flash for long time, even though I was encourage to do so, then when I finally download the latest version it suddenly wouldn't work? Normally I thought it would remove the old files and then save the new files for the new version, but it still doesn't work?
    I have the program "Macromedia Flash 8" installed on my computer and I'm wondering if that could have made an impact?
    I have also tried to uninstall the Flash player and then install the new version again, but againg without any luck.
    I hope you can allocate what could be the problem at my end.

    Make sure all of the videos used in the project that is having that problem are from the same event. If they are from multiple events, move them all into one event.

It is a 2010 macbook pro but i recentrly updated to osx lion and even with lion it was working fine so I nkow it is not the update. also Im able to connect to other internets at home it works great. starbucks too.  but i became so frustated that i reset my computer to manufactuter setting and reinstall snow leopard on it. still I cant connect. I need help please i have been searching all over the web for help and i see people has been having this same problem for years now.. oh yeah and i know it is not the internet cuz there are other macs connecting to it without a single problem so i think it is an isolated problem plase help....i have follow many advises such as delete the internet from your prefered netwoks. restar your commputer etc etc.

    Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
    Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

    You should be able to change your e-mail address from your provider ... then edit it to meet the Apple requirements.   Unfortunately you've given us no profile details so we can't tell what device you have.

    There is a similar setting for Videos on that Settings screen, so if you leave that 'on' you may have similar happening in the Videos app

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac. 
    These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing. 
    Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. 
    Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands. 
    Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply. 
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways: 
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) 
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. 
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid. 
    When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign. 
    Step 1 
    Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V).     This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. 
    Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step. 
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit 
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit  
    Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting. 
    Step 5
    osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit 
    Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output. 
    You can then quit Terminal.

    What problem are you having when attempting to restore?
    Are you using iCloud or iTunes to restore?

    I do not know how to do this with an Apple TV (I don't have one), but as far as I know Apple TV only does mirroring.
    If you have an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV from where you sit, then it's easy. The TV could be set up in Extended Desktop mode (mirroring off) as if it was simply another computer monitor, and then you could just drag windows to it. If you have the Displays icon in your menu bar, that's where the setting is, or if the icon is not there, then the setting is in the Displays system preference. But again, that's for conventionally connected monitors, not Apple TV. If you don't have an HDMI cable and wanted a long one that's affordable you can get those at monoprice.com.
    The answer we are still waiting for is if anyone knows if Apple TV can be used in extended desktop (non-mirroring) mode.

    WiFi signals get stronger the closer the machine is to the router and the less interference/blocking of the signal like via walls with metal in them or of thick concrete.
    Since the signal emanates outwards in a sphere, your supposed to place the wireless router in a central location in the building so it covers all areas.
    The power of the router also has a affect, if your router is old or something not that powerful like a Airport Express, it doesn't have the ability to filter out other signals or enough punch to get through walls etc. or cover a large area as effectively.
    If you buy/have a powerful router of newer make and have issues where there is metal in the walls or thick concrete, then you can buy something like OpenMesh and by using Ethernet cables from the back of the router, extend the WiFi signal into other rooms and areas past the blockage.

    It has only happened for the last month or so
    Also, sometimes it drops out of apps, ie facebook etc. just like you have hit the stop button

    Who replaced the battery? If it wasn't Apple the replacement is probably bad also. Either that, or the logic board is bad.

    Bridge will do the job. View > Sort > ByType. Then you can choose a group of one type and put the files in a separate folder.
