Your camera is being used by another aplication
hi, i just by my imac g5 and suddently photobooth wouldnt open anymore.
it says that my camera is being used by another aplication , but i have cheked if other aplications are open (ichat, imovie hd, comic life) ...and they are not. Please help me solve my problem..
How can i know witch aplication is using my camera?
It can be that you (or some one you share the Mac with) has not closed down an application that was using the camera when you switched accounts.
If you could check the other accounts have no applications running that use the camera. You can do this in sysprefs, accounts. (need admin access)
Very often Photobooth has an all account camera claim when running.

Error "Your camera is in use by another application"-no other apps running
I just purchased a brand new iSight. I connected it to my G5 but when I start up iChat and click on the green video camera icon at the top right, I get a new window that just says "your camera is in use by another application". I don't have other applications running. When I click on the preferences button at the bottom of that window I get another new window with some options for microphone and bandwidth limit. The iSight is not even an option for microphone.
I tryed the iSight on a MacBook Pro and a iBook, it works perfect on both so I don't think there is anything wrong with the iSight.
A few months ago I tryed to run a mac compatible logitech camera on the G5 but couldn't get iChat to recognize that camera either. I wonder if did something that is coming back to haunt me.
I downloaded the latest updates for my iChat, tried all the basic stuff like removing the logitech software and restarting the computer...I am running out of ideas...Help, please. How do I figure out which app is "using" the iSight?Hi Puppymac,
There are two things to try.
1) Try the Combo update
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1046comboforppc.html
2) Try reinstalling Quicktime.

Isight camera- Camera is being used by another program
I use my MBP with an external keybpard, & mouse, and monitor so I run it witht he lid closed. Everytime I go to click on the ichat icon- I get a message saying camera is being use by another program.
I am also trying to use an external camera. THis message happens with out without the external camera being connected.
Any thoughts on this?Try this... shut down ur machine, then hold the power
button for almost 10seconds or until u hear a beep,
then once ur machine is fully booted up the camera
should start working again. Good luck!
I don't have any issues, but I'm interested... What does this actually do? And what is it typically referred to as?
Is it similar to resetting the PRAM? -

Powermac G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)HI Puppymac,
Does this help http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93216
Normally we would suggest running the appropriate Combo installer or try reinstalling Quicktime

Don't know what any of it means.. if somone can let me know what I have to do to make the iChat vid to work let me know. Thank you.I have exactly the same problem! None of the above worked either. I have a logitech camera with iUSB installed which worked fine when I had 10.4.11, but after upgrading recently to 10.5.5 following a hard drive failure on my G5 imac and re-installing iUSBcam, all I get is that the camera is in use by another application! Again, as with the initial post, it works with photobooth and the logitech driver software fine.
I have seen on another post, that an "archive and install" from the original disk has solved the problem previously, but having just spent some considerable time re-building my system to where it was before the hard drive failed, I am a bit loathed to follow this route. Any ideas gratefully appreciated. -
Ichat says camera is being used by another application when its not!
Evry time i go to hook up my cam, (sony handycam), the stupid computer tells me that my camera is being used already by another application...even when every app is closed and off.. it still says this
Hi,
This message can also show up when iChat is having trouble recognizing the video format coming from the camera. I'm not sure if it will help, but you may want to try installing the iChatUSBCam demo to see if it help iChat to recognize the camera.

this is the message that I'm being given on tinychat. "your webcam is in use by another application" Any suggestions?
One other thread said it was fixed by waiting till prompted by iTunes to insert the blank disk, instead of putting it in first. Does that work? Found a number of hits on this Googling.

My iPod isn't being used by another program!
So I just got a new, 2nd gen green iPod shuffle today. And I updated it once and I got all my Kelly Clarkson songs on it. Then I synced some MCR songs on iTunes and I plugged my iPod back into the computer via USB dock. It kept on saying 'iPod is being used by another program, not able to update.' I tried this several times and the same message kept on popping up. I got really frustrated.
Would someone be kind enough to help me?
iPod 2nd Gen Shuffle Windows XPJust try restarting your computer first. Your computer has many, many applications running at any one time so its not surprising that your iPod is being used by another programme. If you uploaded your Kelly Clarkson songs then closed iTunes and then opened iTunes up again, without turning your computer off, or even worse - just pulling your iPod out of the USB port without pressing the disconnect button!, then the computer may still think iTunes is using it and iTunes itself may think another programme is using your iPod when actually, iTunes is using it itself! So I suspect that once you have turned your computer off and turned it on again, then when you plug your iPod in again it will work.

Says camera is in use by another program
Eventhough nothign else is open.
I recently upgraded to 10.4.8 in order to fix the sudden shut-down bug on macbooks. Now, iPhoto starts up when I start up. COuld these be related ot the iChat problem?Hello gdoeas
Now, iPhoto starts up when I start up.
You can stop this by removing iPhoto from your System Preference > Accounts > Login Items. Then just launch iPhoto yourself whenever you wan to use it.
You should also check your Image Capture application's Preferences > General > Camera: Choices Bar to be sure that it is set to "No application" to prevent unintended application launches.
COuld these be related ot the iChat problem?
I do not see how unless you got a bad 10.4.8 download or install.
Disconnect any USB add-ons while you are trying to troubleshoot. Item 2 of Apple's USB Device Troubleshooting article tells you to unplug all USB accessories from the computer while troubleshooting.
Then try all of Apple's relevant suggestions from iSight "Your camera is in use by another application" message.
If your problem persists, try the suggestions re: Built-in iSight in How to Troubleshoot iSight.
If none of the above corrects your problem, you may have had a bad download or install of 10.4.8, Try the following to rule out this possibility:- Repair permissions.
- Then download and apply this Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (iNtel).
- Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iChat again.Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
Please let us know if any of these suggestions helps you.
Cheers,
Jim

Your iCloud account is being used with another device (200+ iPads)
Hello!
I work at a school and currently manage 200+ iPads, we use 1 iCloud account to keep a track of them, I have all backup services switched off and they purely use it for the 'find my iPad/phone' section on iCloud.
However, since iOS 8, a lot of these iPads display the message 'Your device is currently also being used on device studentiPad001' then when a student presses ok, it will pop up again with another iPad name it is being used on, it won't list all iPads that it is currently on but it will repeat this for at least 3-5 minutes.
I thought this would only happen the once after the update but it just picks random times to do it and random iPads, I will soon have to remove the iCloud account from the iPads as it is becoming a massive inconvenience.
Are there any other ways I can physically track the iPads or get rid of this notification?
Thanks! Most likely, you're getting a network address from your router. The address assignment ("lease") expires, and has to be renewed, after a certain amount of time, which might be one hour or one day. The lease expired without being renewed because the device was offline at the time. Meanwhile, the address was leased to another device on the network. When the first device comes back online, it still has the address that's now also leased to the second device. Depending on what kind of router you have, the conflict may resolve itself automatically. If not, then from the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the TCP/IP tab. Now look at the menu labeled Configure IPv4. If the selection in that menu is Using DHCP, click the button labeled Renew DHCP Lease. Test.
Less likely, you have a network address that you assigned yourself, and another device is assigning itself the same address. In that case, the selection in the Configure IPv4 menu will be either Manually or Using DHCP with manual address. This kind of conflict won't be resolved automatically. You have the following options to resolve it:
Change the menu selection to Using DHCP.
Change the manually-assigned address to one that isn't being used by another device.
Change the address of the other device.
Which of these options you should choose depends on the details of why you're using a static IP address. Any change you make to the network settings must be applied before it takes effect. To do that, click OK and then Apply. -
What exactly does "your IP address is being used by another device"
everything is in the question, I recently had to deal with hacking attempts by e-mail, that's why I pay attention
