"Your computer must be connected to the internet to perform this operation" during sync.

My curve had this error message:
"your computer must be connected to the internet to perform this operation. Please ensure that you are able to connect to the internet and try again".
Worked fine with desktop manager 4.6...
update to 4.7 blew it up...
found an article to fix.. regedit and change hklm \ software \ reasearch in motion \ blackberry\ syncronize
change State from 1 to 0
worked fine....
till the 5.0 update ...
now it does not work again and this key does not even exist anymore.
Of course there is internet and there is no firewalling enabled or any application which would block this traffic, no proxy settings, routing issues etc....
There has to be answer to this issue.. I know I am not the only person with this issue.

Hi,
You only need to connect onve, and then you satisfy the request.
I have run into this twice, and I cannot logically explain why it occurs.
On the first install I finally connected the PC directly to the cable modem, after disabling the firewall software.
It did take about 6 hours with Kapersky to ensure it hadn't got infected. That was a friends DM 4.5
The second was was out of total frustration with version 4.7. On my network.
I , like you, have routers and firewalls in front of the cable router if I had had a packet sniffer it would have been easier to trace.
I reasoned that the PC and applications like explorer and Outlook could access the internet with out fail.
I then tracked the default IP gateway address for my PC.
In Windows click on Start, then on Run, and then type "cmd" and press Enter to open a DOS window.
- In this window type "ipconfig" and press Enter.
- The screen will display the IP options for Ethernet the submask, etc.  "Default Gateway." is what you need.
- Copy the the default gateway's IP address.
I then started the Blackberry device manager and opened the Blackberry Hardware properties icon in the systray.
I was trying to see if I could find what the desktop manager was trying to access or at least what path it wanted.
I found the Blackberry Router configuration tab.Click on the bottom right "turn on user defined routes".
So basically you can provide a bypass route "static route". I entered my PC default gateway address, hit apply and OK.
I did a cold boot of the system, started the DM and it never whimpered, just hit the internet and I could access the
sync options. This worked without changing any firewall or router settings. I purposely left it all in place as that
IP gateway worked for any other program on both my PC's. (I have setup mu PC to device the home network.
After running steady for a couple of weeks, I went in and removed the bypass address. The 4.7 install has yet to miss a
beat.
Well I probably broke 87 FCC regulations, all of the RIM agreements but it worked for me.!
If I'm not here tommorow have a drin for me at the party!
I have just installed the Desktop manager 5.0 and never had the problem.
So basically it's your call !
The worst that can happen is it doesn't work and you narrow it down further, the best that happens is you get connected.
I would recommend getting a  " sniffer" program. This is the one suggested by Blackberry in the KB article
(Packet capture  tool (such as Wireshark®)
Let us know what you think.
Thanks,

I keep getting the above message when I try to configure my synchronization settings...yet I clearly have an internet connection. I downloaded the most recent Desktop Software and that did not correct the problem.

  • Why do I see: iTunes Help is unavailable because your computer isn't connected to the Internet.  IE9 works fine but iTunes does not connect to the store.

I have tried 4 days to get iTunes 10.4 working on my Win7 x64 machine.  I purchased a new iPhone4 and after syncing it the first time, I can't connect to the iTunes store.
When I try to run iTunes Help, I get this message "iTunes Help is unavailable because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet."  However IE9 and Google Chrome run as always...... no connection problems.

  • TS1368 itunes on my new alienware laptop acts as if the computer is not connected. (which it is) can not sign in with my itunes username and password. itunes help even pops up with "your computer is not connected to the internet"....

so in other words, I can NOT sign in on my account, much less authorize this laptop. can't even access help.  have downloaded the latest itunes software, checked my firewall settings etc.... (the itunes help window even opens up with "itunes help is unavailable because your computer is not connected to the internet".  granted I am basically computer illiterate, in other words if something isnt working my knowledge is pretty limited with tweaking things. I need some help!

On an Alenware laptop, this issue is often older drivers on the Bigfoot networking card.
Head to the drivers and downloads page for your model of Alienware at Dell. Check for newer versions of the drivers for your Bigfoot card. If you're behind and you update, can you get through to the Store (or Help) now?

  • "Your computer isn't connected to the internet"

I hope I can make this succinct....
Earlier today, Airport suddenly quit working. I couldn't access the internet (getting message "your computer isn't connected to the internet") and my email wouldn't work. I restarted the computer and it worked fine, for awhile. Then the same problem arose.
I ran the network diagnostics. When i started, all Network Status lights were red (Airport, Airport settings, Network settings, ISP, Internet, Server all said "failed".)
I selected the location "automatic" and then chose network port configuration "Airport". That made the airport light turn green, but the rest remained red.
It asked me which airport network to join and i picked the appropriate one. I know the network is working because I'm using it on a separate computer to type and send this. The airport light remained green and the rest remained red.
It asked if I use PPPoE or DHCP. Since I've always used DHCP in the past, I presume that continues to be the case. So I chose DHCP.
It asked if I use a cable modem or DSL. I said yes, but it didn't need to be reset.
The first couple times I tried this diagnostic, the ISP button would turn yellow in the beginning and later a pop up would showup saying "yor network settings have changed" or something to that effect.
Any idea what might be causing this and/or how to solve it? I presume a network setting just got messed up but I have no idea what it might be.

Hi, was this after the dreaded last Security update or two?
Two things to try right now...
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's NDS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.
Sometimes having an all OFF Location can help, thanks to Gnarlodious...

  • Places: "Your computer is not connected to the Internet"

    Hi All,
When my MacBook goes to sleep while running Aperture, sometimes my Places view wakes up with "Your computer is not connected to the Internet". Even after I reconnect, the map refuses to use the Internet. I can actually perform place searches using the query in the upper right, but when I click on one of the "Google results" nothing happens because, well, "Your computer is not connected..."
This doesn't happen with every sleep, though. Has anyone else had this problem and figured out a useful pattern to get Places to reconnect?
    thanks,
    nathan
PS, yes, I will be reporting this bug to the Aperture team.

I have the same problem with Aperture on my Macbook with Lion.
Did you ever find a answer?

  • IPhoto says "Your computer is not connected to the internet"

For a few days now, iPhoto has repeatedly refused to do things (e.g., show a Help page) because it claims the computer (a Macbook Pro, OS X 10.9.5, iPhoto 9.5.1). isn't connected to the internet.  I have a bunch of terminal windows and half a dozen different browsers running, and they all agree that the internet is available and working just fine.
Why would iPhoto do this?  Or more to the point, how can I fix it, and convince it that the machine is indeed connected to the internet?
(Yes, I did try iPhoto's Help tool.  It told me that the computer wasn't connected to the internet, and to try again later. ;-)

If an app has access to a very big database of images with known locations, the reverse image search can "guess" at what or who it is... here's a little test (you can try it with your photos too)
Save this image to your computer
(cheating because we know it is an image from Organ Pipe National Monument
BUT it is also a screenshot with NO EXIF data attached )
    http://images.google.com
    hover for the "Camera Tool"
choose Upload and do so with "Picture 3.png"
    Google does several things -
    Guess at the content
Find matches on the web for its guess's search terms
Find 'similar' images  <<<===============THIS IS WHAT iPhoto SEEMS TO HAVE DONE!
show web pages that have the image on them
Remember, although a trick question test, it is a legitimate proof of the ability of the Guess Engine
I believe that the "buildings"(environment) in your old timey photos are the key to location guessing - if place is guessed, GoogleMaps can locate it w/ GPS coordinates from its database's cross reference
All that said, what Engine iPhoto is using is unknown to me - that's just how it works

    Try
Reboot the computer, see if that fixes it.
    Then try:
Backup your files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and simply reinstalling OS X
Log in and update to 10.6.8
c boot off the 10.6 disk again and use Disk Utility >Repair Disk
reboot and all should be fine, except some third party programs that install kext files, those will have to be reinstalled from fresh sources.

How do I get iphoto to recognize that a computer really is connected to the internet?  I cannot use places to locate my photos, because the software keeps telling me my computer is not connected.  I know the computer is connected.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. It the problem persists  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If the new library does'nt have that problem then your original library is damaged. Post back if that's the case and we'll go from there.

  • How can I count  time that a computer has been connectted with the internet

I want to count the time which a computer has been connectted with the internet?
I had already tried several times,
    one is socket,
    second is Runtime.exec("ping -n 1"+ip)
    I don't think they are better;
    do you have another idea?

The internet is a conceptual entity not a physical entity so you are never connected to it.
As a conceptual entity the internet is represented by a cloud of computing devices (computers, gateways, routers, etc.)
Your computer connects to a another computer by being routed through various devices and then finally connecting to that remote computer.
Depending on various thing you can measure the time that you can connect to other devices by either pinging a common IP in the internet (such as yahoo.com) or by pinging the router that that represents the entry point for your cloud (such as the router/gateway of your ISP.)
If you are concerned about a particular connection, such a specific remote computer, then using a socket and sending a 'keep-alive' message and recieving the response is the best way to track that.
