Your computer systems firewall settings will prevent you from using AirTune

I haven't used my airport express in a while and I just opened itunes with my airport speakers and I got the error message Your computer systems firewall settings will prevent you from using AirTunes. How can I fix this?
Help!!

I have this same exact problem and it is driving me crazy. I am running on OS X 10.4.11 and only started having this problem when I started using the express to join another network. I had always used it as the base but when I joined the wireless network I created with an airport extreme (just bought it a couple of days ago) I can still use the internet fine, and I can print wirelessly, but when I try to use the speakers wirelessly from iTunes it gives me that warning. I'ce tried opening up a whole bunch of ports on my computer but I have no clue how to correct whatever else needs correcting on the extreme.

  • Fix for "your computer's system firewall settings will prevent you...?"

I finally did the dreaded feat and performed an update - had all kinds of problems afterwards (repeating Network settings message error, unknown error -3256 error, etc.) that I have (I think) successfully fixed thanks to these fabulous forums. After getting the -3256 error I updated the firmware and software for my AE and applied the Apple support fix for -3256. Then I started getting a new issue - being the following message after opening my new i-tunes version 8.0.2 "your computer's system firewall settings will prevent you from using Airtunes". After going into the firewall settings and trying to modify the port number (which I found suggested here) that i-tunes would use to stream to my airport express in the edit pane for 'i-tunes music sharing'. I ended up creating a new port specification, which I called i-tunes 1 with ports 5000 - 6000 specified. Tried opening i-tunes again - but no luck, same error. Thinking that I'd done nothing to improve the situation, I deleted my new port specification in the allow pane under firewall - I noticed that the original spec was gone (because I had edited it?). Anyway, as soon as I deleted the spec that I had edited, airtunes started working beautifully! To check things - I closed i-tunes and re-started, then, got the same message ""your computer's system firewall settings will prevent you from using Airtunes" with the option to check my firewall settings - which I did. This time, I noticed that 'i-tunes music streaming' was again listed as an option under allow in my firewall. I selected and deleted it - then again, my Airtunes works perfectly.
I really have no idea what exactly occurs 'behind the scenes' so to speak when you delete this from the list - but - it seems to have fixed my problem. I'm guessing that I'll have to do that each time I open i-tunes. At least I got my airtunes back. I guess I'm a little worried that deleting this item presents some sort of risk or could lead to another problem and so if anyone can comment on this I would really appreciate it. Alternatively, if anyone has a solution that won't require me deleting this item each time I open i-tunes, I'd be glad to hear it.
    Thanks!
    Leigh-Ann

Leigh-Ann, you didn't say that Airtunes didn't work, only that you got that error. I, too, am getting the "Your computer's system firewall settings will prevent you from using Airtunes" message, but when I click "Ignore" I find that Airtunes works just fine.

  • After Restoring your computer to Factory Settings How do you restore backups from Time Machine? Help!

I have Restored my Computer to Factory Settings and Now I'm trying to restore the backups from my Time Matchine. I've already done the Migration Assistant things. But I dont know where to find my details or where my files are.
Everything is in different spots then where it was when i started this process.
    HELP

Restoring from Time Machine and using Migration Assistant are either/or options... either restore from a Time Machine backup or restore by using Migration Assitant. You don't write which version of OS X you're running, so it's kind of difficult to tell you where to begin (or start over).
If you're running Lion or Mountain Lion, I would boot into the Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting) and use Disk Utility to erase your boot volume. Then, with your TM drive connected, restore your latest backup to your newly formatted volume. You can do the same by using the installation disc that has Snow Leopard on it, just with a few extra steps.
    See http://www.pondini.org/TM/14.html.
    Good luck,

  • Hello MacHeads: I downloaded Handbrake 0.9.1 for Tiger, so I can upload a homemade DVD for editing in imovie.  Problem is I can't even access Handbrake Help book, because I think my firewall settings are preventing me.  I tried turning off all my firewall

Hello MacHeads: I downloaded Handbrake 0.9.1 for Tiger, so I can upload a homemade DVD for editing in imovie.  Problem is I can't even access Handbrake Help book, because I think my firewall settings are preventing me.  I tried turning off all my firewall settings.?  IDK if I'm even doing that right.  Can anyone help out here?

You don't need Handbrake for that if it is your own DVD.
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle.
a DVD is in a compresed format called mpeg2, which is standard across all DVDs. This is what is known as a 'final delivery format' and is not suitable for editing. Because is is compressed, a 4.7GB DVD can hold a two hour movie (dual layer DVDs twice that), whereas the DV stream from a video camera, which runs at about 13GB per hour, is not compressed and IS intended for editing.
In other words you have to 'reverse engineer' the DVD back to an uncompressed format in ordfer to edit it. There is a penalty for doing this in terms of slight quality loss, but it is one you can live with.
When you have your DVD as an icon on your desktop, double-click it, and it will open to reveal a TS-Folder containing a number of various files, some called VOB. These are the constituent parts of any video DVD.
When you have downloaded and installed mpegStreamclip, and purchased and installed the Apple mpeg2 plugin, open mpegStreamclip and drag the entire TS Folder into its window. Then using the various menus available to you (just explore them and you will get the hang of it) ask it to convert to DV.
That DV file, which will be many times larger than the original TS Folder, and which can a while to create (be patient - make coffee or prune the roses!) is what you can now import into iMovie for editing etc.
When you have finished doing that, you then have to turn the project back into a DVD.
mpegStreamclip can be downloaded from here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

    Hi,
Some "movies' are actually Flash files.
This means the Flash App will play them (possibly in a browser in some cases).

A web page can include javascript.
Apple uses javascript here to help with creating the posting box, the Edit options, Adding pics/smilies and the like.
Sometimes the javascript can be what is called a runaway process and gets sort of stuck in an endless loop.
If it is a free standing item then it might be triggered by AppleScript on the Mac. (or be modified in some way)
Again if the Script (normally written with a upper case S) is not perfect it can cause problems.

  • System Administrator preventing me from using App World.

I have a blackberry curve 9300 3G but when I try to use app world,it says system administrator is preventing me from using it. Why is this? And how can I use app world please?

HI and Welcome to the Community!
Based on what you say, your BB is enrolled in a BES environment, and the administrator of that BES does not allow you to use AppWorld. You would have to talk to them concerning that.
If you are not part of BES, then your BB may well previously in it's life have been so, but was never properly cleansed of the restricting IT Policy. You can check here:
Article ID: KB30076 How to check for an IT Policy on a BlackBerry smartphone
If indeed there is an IT Policy and you are 100% certain you are not part of BES, then you must take drastic actions. To begin, make sure you have a proper backup...you can find instructions via the link in my auto-sig on this post. Then, follow this:
Article ID: KB31291 How to reset a BlackBerry smartphone to factory settings using BlackBerry Desktop Software
After, when you restore, do not do a full restore...rather, only a custom restore of only those databases you require (e.g., contacts, calendar, etc.) but specifically do not restore any databases that have anything to do with IT Policy, Enterprise, or any similar thing. If you restore those, it will dutifully return the IT Policy to your device, and you'll be right back where you started.
    Good luck!

  • Prevent firefox from using HTML5 player in Youtube.

How do I prevent firefox from using HTML5 player in youtube and use flash player instead? I am not sure what advantage HTML5 has over Flash. I noticed that Flash plays smoother than HTML5 and there is also a difference in quality of the video at low resolution. HTML5 does not seem to have smooth streaming compared to Flash. I may be wrong and I am ready to learn the advantage of HTML5 over Flash. But until then I wish to revert FF to its previous behavior of playing in flash.
If there is no way of bypassing this player (html5), how do I set it to ask before I allow it to play the video? I dislike videos playing automatically as soon as I open the link or any websites (reason why I set Flash player to 'ask to activate').
Thank you for your generous help. :)

  • Digital Signatures - how to prevent anyone from using my name

I've created a bunch of forms that have digital signatures enabled.  When I've created one either with the PKCS or the Windows Certificate, what's to prevent anyone else from just typing my name, email address and Company Name?  Yes, I can create one and save it with a password, but anyone can do that.  I'm confused how I can ask our users to use digital signatures on internal documents, then have them email to accounting or HR, yet there's nothing to prevent anyone from using anyone else's name (ie how can I prove that it wasn't me that signed it)?
Is there nothing that's tied to Windows ie I can't use my login ID on our domain unless I use my network password?  That's really the ONLY way I can prove I'm me.

Self-signed digital signatures are precisely that - the person creating them is the only one attesting to the contents, so you can make a perfectly-valid self-signed ID for Canta Claus of you want to. The critical thing to remember is that a self-signed ID will only validate if the recipient has your keyfile to compare it to. On your own machine it will show as valid because the key is present, but if you send the PDF to anyone else it will show as invalid unless you have separately transferred them a copy of your keyfile. It's that second file which tells them the ID is really yours, as they can physically check where it came from (e.g. by phoning you up). The recipient would then have to manually add the keyfile to the trusted list in Acrobat or Adobe Reader, and finally your PDF signature will get the green tick.
Self-signed IDs are find for internal company workflows as everyone can share their keyfiles, and the IT department can manage what's going on. If you're using digital IDs in a public setting you should never use self-signed certificates, instead you should purchase an ID from a Certificate Authority - a company whose IDs are tied to the 'root certificates' embedded in Acrobat and Adobe Reader. The CA will require proof of identity before selling you the cert, and so anyone can verify it's genuine without needing to contact you. CAS-issued certs for signing PDF files are not cheap, there are several vendors out there and I won't comment on which may be better.
