Your favorite/best apps

Well i got i3 all setup and looking how i want it and now comes the time for me to start installing apps that i need. iv already installed ranger as a file manager (Great job devs!!!!), mplayer as a video player (havent tested yet), chromium as a browser, feh for background (and maybe image manager), and i think thats it. Iv read the best app thread and i went through and picked some from there but i mean for like anything here, like maybe you have a program that you love as a sys tray or dropbox as cloud storage, just stuff like that.So if you could please post the name of the app, a blurb about what it does and if you want the website if you know it off the top of your head (i can google if you cant remember)

What's your favorite FREE app?

So far, I've only downloaded free apps, and those which were the most highly-rated. Here's my casual "top 10" listing ... there are SO many good ones, but I really love the first three. I was blown away by ABC Player the first time I booted it up ... it's gorgeous! These apps really make the iPad standout ... I'd rather use these apps more than those on my desktop because they're so much "prettier"!

Wanted to tell you about a great FREE sticky notes app I found yesterday morning. It's called ABCNotes. I'm a notes app junkie and it seems like I've bought most of the notes and sticky notes apps in the App Store over the last 2 years. But this is the best little sticky notes I've found. Don't know how long it will be FREE but I highly recommend it. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
I agree on most of the same free apps you've listed, especiallyWeatherBug, Kindle and NetFlix. (Oops, NetFlix was not on your list, but on the list of the other poster.)

Your favorite iPad app

If you had to recommend only one iPad app to a friend, family member of colleague at work, which one would it be and why?
My favorite app, so far, is Nasdaq OMX's Qfolio HD app. (There's one for the iPhone, but it is poor and very basic and not worth the time to download.) If you like tracking stocks and following the market, this Qfolio HD is informative and fun to watch. You can set up a portfolio and watch lists and see the stocks updated and trades being made.
Upsides are:
+ Screens well laid out (beautiful screens)
+ Easy to add and remove items from the portfolio and watch list
+ Lots of good information on each screen
+ Fast real-time updating on a good connection
+ Free
Some downsides to the app are:
* You cannot add funds to the portfolio or watch list
* Missing the DJIA and S&P ticker information.
* Limited to one portfolio and one watch list
* You cannot re-sort items in the portfolio or watch list (at least I can't find a way to do it). A real pain if you want to keep one stock (or group of stocks) at the top of the list as you add and delete stocks.
CNBC has a good app for the iPhone (CNBC RT) complete with alerts, but they have not ported it so it can take advantage of the iPad.
I was wondering what other favorite apps are out there for the iPad.

What are your favorite backup apps?

I am looking for a simple to use backup app. I have never used a backup app with windows or Mac's before so just looking for something simple and effective. I have looked around and saw that Intego had one backup program but they mostly have security apps. So I did not know if it was worth it. Thanks for the feedback in advance! Oh, just so you know I do not have a external harddrive right now and was wondering how safe it really is using programs that upload to the net.

I have read many reviews on exteral harddrives and I think I found one. Does anyone have any feedback, or what do you think?

Your favorite Flash based apps ?

I'm writing an article on the unexpected and underestimated power of using Flash to develop apps for the iPhone/iPad. It seems that most developers and designers are still under the "No Flash" mantra of Steve Jobs. However, it is hard to find good examples of Flash based apps, since they're simply not promoted as such in the App Store. It also seems that the number of available Flash based apps is not that impressive, judging by the (lack of) developers talking about it on the web or in forums. I just find stumble upon stale pages on the old debate or even older pre-CS5 techniques...

I have the same question, but I want to qualify it with a few things. First, Contacts works great, but I want to keep my business contacts and my personal contacts separate. I know you can separate them in Contacts, however, as an executive assistant I also have my bosses contacts and frankly they are a mess.
I am looking for a separate app that I use just for work. I need to link 5 accounts to this app. 2 will be from Exchange and 3 will be from Gmail. As a bonus I would be thrilled if the app could merge profiles and link to facebook, twitter, and linkedin. Any advice?

Suppose you should have all your songs and apps in your iTunes. If so, just get the new iPod synced with your computer, everything can be synced.
If your old iPod is an iPod Touch, you can restore from a backup of your old iPod if the old iPod used to be synced with your computer.
But, the items will be deleted if your old iPod was synced / copied songs / apps from the other computer, and those items is purchased by other iTunes account, and your computer is not authorized.

editor, whether
it be Microsoft Paint, Photoshop Elements, Fireworks,
Photoshop, Xara, etc.
Make the button graphics in your graphics editor, and place
them on the page
in DW.
