Your favorite Flash based apps ?

I'm writing an article on the unexpected and underestimated power of using Flash to develop apps for the iPhone/iPad. It seems that most developers and designers are still under the "No Flash" mantra of Steve Jobs. However, it is hard to find good examples of Flash based apps, since they're simply not promoted as such in the App Store. It also seems that the number of available Flash based apps is not that impressive, judging by the (lack of) developers talking about it on the web or in forums. I just find stumble upon stale pages on the old debate or even older pre-CS5 techniques...
There used to be this list:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashcs5/appsfor_iphone/
But it refers to the new Packager, now.
So, who can help me out ?
What's your favorite Flash app for iOS ?
Are there any lists or spots where they all flock together ?
UPDATE: Oops, I didn't scroll deep enough in the topic list to find out there's already another thread that touts examples of Flash based apps. However, your suggestions are welcome, of course !

What is your favorite note taking app for handwriting to text?

I use WritePad - feel it does a good job. However, I must admit that I didn't try any others... at the time, it had the best reviews of any handwriting recognition app (in fact, as I recall, it might have been the only one to do recognition).

  • Flash based apps

Ok, I know this may be a very common question but I haven't found yet a clear answer, I really need help on this as I am considering purchasing a developer account.
I know Apple changed its TOS but this is still not clear to me.
So can I publish an app to the mac App Store which is built in flash using adobe's .app macintosh projector?

Well, I just tried the forums but I can't seem able to log in. After I put my username and password it sends me to the same page and the log in button doesn't seem to do anything if I attempt to click it.
However, I'm logged in as a developer, but I can't see the forum, do I need to be already paying to get access to it? Would be kind of useless as I need to get some questions answered first before paying the $99 fee.
    Any help?

  • What are the most useful/your favorite Ipod touch apps?

I am currently in the market for an ipod and I'm just not sure if I need a touch or not. I would love a 16gig but they don't exist which means I have to spend a lot of money on 32 gig. Anyways, I am just curious if the investment will be worth it in the long run because of the app's. Yes, I realize that a useful app to you might not be to me and vice versa so I was just hoping you guys could list off some of the most useful ones for you guys personally so I can know what to expect. Thanks!

    1. Apple's "Remote". I love the ability to control my computer (playing my iTunes library into my stereo) from anywhere in my house via wi-fi.
    2. "Units" (and others like it). Very handy tool to convert sq. feet to acres, meters per second to mph, N-m to ft-lb, etc.
    3. "Loan Shark" (and others like it). Very handy to figure out monthly payments on a loan given the interest rate/ term, calculating how much principle you will have paid after X months, etc.
    4. "Sports Tap". ¡Órale! Mexico just beat France 2-0!
I have many others, but these I use a lot and find the most useful.

  • What is your favorite flash photo album?

Looking to see what people are using for flash photo albums.
I know I scan search for google and I know if I had flash I could
make it. I dont have it, I have cold fusion and I program cold
fusion, but for my needs I want to use flash.
I like an automated slideshow function with forward back
    buttons, watermarking.
Loaded through URL variables or through a text file is fine
as I can deal with that through Cold Fusion.
Free open source code is preferred, but I would like to know
    what people are using.
    Thanks!

Can you please suggest a better software to purchase that if much more "user friendly" and creates a high quality product?
    No.
using Macs since '86, I've seen PaintBoxes and Quantel systems at work, sit aside when Masters used Premiere Pro, I do own & use FCE… I have knowledge of Hyperengine, and Avid free …-
I never saw a simpler metaphor then "sorting slides" as in iM; most post we read here are, because people start to edit their movies with zero-manual-reading…- which works in 90% of cases…
and, iM supports the same codec as any miniDV camcorder (or even HD)… => not bit gets lost in quality…
more user friendly with high quality?
no idea...... (even with less quality…)
(iM has its hurdles and some real bugs, ask forum members Matti or Karl… but for me, the average user - no problems so far....)

  • Vote for your favorite music creation app!

    http://emusician.com/
I found this on another forum.. I just voted and noticed that Logic heads haven't stepped up to vote yet.

Maybe it's because Logic users are too busy making kick**s music instead of schlepping around online?
In all seriousness, I have noticed I spend more time in Logic and less time on forums since I switched from Sonar. I think I was constantly looking for that one crucial tip that would make Sonar worthwhile. I never found it.

  • Why do I get the 'PowerPC code' error when trying to launch an Intel-based app from a CD?

When trying to launch a Flash-based app from a CD on my Mac Book Pro, I get the "PowerPC apps are no longer supported" error. Yet the app is not built with PowerPC code.
This also happened with Microsoft Office programs soon after I upgraded to OSX Lion, but someone was able to solve that for me.

It's just a free disc from a photo magazine, but the app runs fine on a Mac Pro running 10.7.3. Could it be hardware related?
I have actually asked this on behalf of a reader (I work for the company that makes the magazine) who is experiencing this problem, I just can't find any reason why the error would display in these circumstances. I apologise if this is against the community's usual practise - I just want to sort this guy out!
The app on the disc is compiled using MDM Zinc, but like I said it runs a-OK on Lion everywhere else.
Any help would be gratefully received and appreciated!

  • Notebook shuts down when using flash-based applications on FB

A few minutes after I log in several facebook flash-based applications (Cafe World, Treasure Isle, Frontier Ville) my pc shuts down. This has not always been the case, only in the couple past weeks. At first I thought my notebook was overheating...but how can a flash-based game overheat a pc in less than 5 minutes? I was a bit perplexed since ZyngaPoker (another flash-based app) causes no problems even if I play for an hour straight but then again I turned my notebook one morning after leaving it idle for 12 hours and went directly to one of the aforementioned apps. 3 mins and.. BAM. I have a good pc, always use Chrome and good software (such as CCleaner, Deffragler, SpeedFan etc). I am not so familiar with flash so I don't know what I might have do in order to resolve this issue. I hope some of the gurus here might get to read this thread and give me any tips.

  • TS1702 problems with flash based products not running on the ipad 2

I have problems viewing certain web pages in safari, getting the message that the laatest version of flash player is not loaded, does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

No Flash for iPads, iPhones, or iPods
Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.
Here is Steve Jobs official comment on his momentous decision to omit Flash from iDevices: Steve Jobs on Flash.
Here is Adobe's later announcement to cease development of Flash for mobile devices: Adobe on Mobile Flash.
Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.
Apps that can display some Flash from the Web:
    Puffin
    SkyFire
    Photon Flash
    Browse2Go
    iSwifter
Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

  • Playing flash based games on the ipad2?

My daughter plays Moshi monsters on our mac book, I believe this is a flash based game, will she be able to play it on an ipad?Playi

People are too quick to comment about Flash.  If your daughter plays Moshi Monsters Mouthoff, it is indeed available in the App Store for $.99 as a download.  It will certainly play on an iPad, though it was not optimized for it.  It will occupy less space on the screen, but you can simply use the 2X button on the bottom right hand corner to enlarge it to fill the full screen.

  • Connection SQLite with Flex Web Based App??

Hi! I have a problem, I create a Flex Web Based App in Flash Builder 4 and I need connect that app with my SQLite database... but I can't found the method that permit me create that connection.
My question is... exist some method or some kind of code with I can do the connection?
    Can someone help me, please?

SQLLite is only available in AIR apps.
The preferred method for a web-app is to use some kind service architecture to expose your data. I wouldn't be able to offer any specific advise without knowing more about your deployment environment.

  • Flash-Based BBC h264 Videos Freeze After 8 Seconds

    Hello,
I like to view BBC news videos since March on my new Desktop Windows 7 64 bit Pro system.  For about 2 weeks now, I've been having trouble viewing about half of these videos.  Half play all the way through fine and the other half freeze after 8-10 seconds.  I have a CAT 5e 7 mbit cable modem connection so speed is not an issue.  My Wi-Fi connected Windows 7 Home Premium laptop uses the same router and can play the same videos with no problems.
On my Desktop, this freezing happens on both FireFox 12 and Internet Explorer 9.  I did all the usual things to try to fix the problem.  I cleared the caches on both FF12 and IE9.  Yesterday, I uninstalled both the Adobe Flash FF12 plug-in and IE9 Active-X versions and reinstalled with the latest version, 11,3,300,262.  Today, I upgraded to the latest version, 11,3,300,265.  Nothing has solved the problem.
Here are the specs for the BBC Flash-based player:
    Problem Videos:
    URL:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-18819815
    EMP v.3.1.0.r749603_749269_749444_5
    18819815 | 800kbps | h264 | AK 4.5 (1) | 640x360
    URL:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-18733664
    EMP v.3.1.0.r749603_749269_749444_5
    18733664 | 800kbps | h264 | AK 4.5 (1) | 640x360
    URL:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-18818139
    EMP v.3.1.0.r749603_749269_749444_5
    18818139 | 800kbps | h264 | AK 4.5 (1) | 640x360
    This video plays OK:
    URL:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18801596
    EMP v.3.1.0.r749603_749269_749444_5
    18801601 | 800kbps | h264 | AK 4.5 (1) | 640x360
The only difference I noticed was the initial screen size of the video.  On the problem videos, the size is bigger than the OK one.  I assume the BBC videos are h264 encoded.  On both my Desktop and my laptop, I have 2 msmpeg2vdec.dll files.  1 in C:\Windows\System32 and another in C:\Windows\SysWOW64.  They are both v6.1.7140.0.  On both my Desktop and laptop, the sizes are different, 2.52 MB & 2.03 MB.
I am using the latest nVidia driver v301.42 which I installed 5/30/2012, over a month ago.  The only recent change which happened to my system on 7/4/2012 was my Norton Internet Security 2012 subscription expired.  NIS2012 then disabled itself and activated the built-in Windows firewall.  3 days ago I uninstalled NIS2012.  I also used the Norton Removal Tool.  I then installed a new NIS2012 with a new legitimate key.  However, I am still getting this freezing and I don't remember if I got this freezing before 7/4/2012.
On both FF12 and IE9, I can play Hulu, YouTube, Yahoo!, and Amazon videos with no problems.  When you right-click on any of these other flash players, nowhere does it say "h264."
    My questions are:
    1)  does the Adobe Flash Player, for both the FF12 plug-in and IE9 ax players, use the Windows7 CODEC?
    2)  Which file is the h264 CODEC, is it msmpeg2vdec.dll or something else?
    3)  Will installing a new CODEC pack fix this problem?
    4)  Is there anything else I have overlooked?  Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

Interestingly, the advertisement plays correctly.  When you right-click on the ad, it does not say h264.  I have 2 video cards and several monitors on my Desktop.  It might have something to do with that.  Otherwise, perhaps one of my other apps did something to the Flash Player h264 playback.
I'm thinking maybe if I upgraded the h264 CODEC, maybe it will play correctly again.  CODEC GUIDE has a codec package which I already downloaded but haven't installed yet.  I downloaded the "Basic."  Unless you really need to, I don't recommend anyone install it.  If you want to install a CODEC package, just install the "Basic" package and not one of the bigger packages.  I think they make changes to your system.  Before installing it, be sure to make a full backup of your Windows system.

  • Can't load flash based webcam since 10.6.5 update

since updating today, my webcam is no longer detected on any flash based webcam site (i.e. tinychat, meebo, etc). I have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of the Adobe Flash plug-in, I have adjusted and checked all the proper settings in the Global Settings window for Flash. I've called Apple, they said call Adobe. I called Adobe, they said call Apple. You get the picture. Any ideas?

Several users are currently finding problems with Flash based video web sites, perhaps due to timing differences in the various update cycles of the developers.
Therefore, check all third-party items like Flip4Mac, Safari "Extensions", web-based chat items, social web site "toolbars", etc., to be sure you are using the latest versions compatible with your system. Uninstall any with known issues pending their next update.
If you are still having problems, here are some things you can try. Depending on system configuration and installed third-party items, various users have reported different methods of restoring Flash video website functionality. Which might work for you seems to be a matter of what you have added to your system, so keep trying any relevant to your system until you find the one that might work for you.
    (1) For those who have installed Google plugins, user OysterOyster reports that uninstalling them restores proper iSight function with Flash and Mac OS X 10.6.5.
If Google is your problem, the GoogleVoiceAndVideoUninstaller.app should be in your hard drive's Library/Application Support/Google/ folder. (not your *Home > Library* folder)
Several users confirm that using the Google uninstaller works to restore Flash video functions.
Some other users, including those who do not use the Google plugins, have found other remedies.
    (2) User joew13 reports that installing the 64-bit Flash plug-in beta for Mac OS X (DMG, 8.7 MB) fixed Flash sites for him.
This link allows download of the 64-bit plugin beta from an official Adobe page:
      http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
or, to download the beta directly, click this link--> http://tinyurl.com/2frejs4
Several other users have confirmed success after the beta update.
    (3) User imagerle downgraded Flash to version 10,0,45,2 to restore Flash video.
If this older version is not available on a backup or an old install disk, it can be downloaded from Adobe's Archived Flash Players page:
      http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
    (4) User sirjoe82 and others have reported that uninstalling Flip4Mac restored their Flash video website functions.
