Your folder can't be shared.

I am a local administrator on this domain member Windows 7 Professional computer. When I try to share a folder, I get the message "Your folder can't be shared". The folder is on a local USB-attached drive. That is all the message says; it does not provide
any further details whatsoever. Also, I cannot seem to find a KB article pertaining to this issue. Very frustrating. Any help would be very much appreciated!
TIA,
Sam "flux"

I had the same issue. here is what i did to share a folder on windows 7.
from top menu select:
tools > Folder options...
in the pop-up window click on the "view" Tab
go to the bottom of the list and un-check "Use Sharing Wizard (recommended)" and hit OK
Then Right-click on the folder you want to share and from menu select:
Share with > Advanced sharing...
from "Share properties" window, select "share" tab and then "Advanced sharing..."
check "share this folder" and you can further set the permissions on the same pop-up window by clicking "permissions"
My other PC was on another network from where I wanted to access the folder on windows 7 so i added windows 7 pc to work group. you can play around with the workgroup but the above will share the folder without any error.

ThinkPad T520 - my networking system was working fine connecting with three other computers. I must have done something in uninstalling programs or installing a new program. The T520 will not recognize the network and the files will not share. I get the message shown above. I have searched the Internet support areas and found some complex solutions that are beyond me. At this point I have two choices, take it to an authorized local repair shop or bring the system back to factory setting.
Any advice on what I should do to resolve this?
    Thanks

    Hello
Please make sure if File and Printer sharing is checked on the network connections.
Network and Sharing Center -> Click the current connection -> Status -> Properties
Make sure that "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is checked.
If that doesn't work try this

Read the section E about restore issues.

But you should be able to mount the sparsebundle and backup the major items if they are not damaged. You might also do a disk verify to see if the corruption can be repaired.
Have a look here also for restore of selected items.

  • On your imac can you share documents between accounts?

on your imac can you share documents between accounts? If I work on a Pages document can another account see that document and ber able to work on it?

If you want to copy the file between users you can use the Public folder in your home directories. If you put something in the Public folder other users can see it and copy it out if they want to send something to you they can copy it into your Public/Drop Box folder.
If you both want to be able to work on the same document you could use the /Users/Shared folder which is read/write for all users.

  • Can albums be shared within iPhoto on 2 Macs?

We'd like to share iPhoto albums between 2 iPhoto applications on 2 computers. I download the images from the camera to my Powerbook, but my wife wants access to these images in her own iPhoto app on her Powerbook when I'm gone. She wants to be able to share the photos from her own iPhoto.
Is this what Photocast does or am I misinterpreting that? If not, how can this be done? Can you import via a local network from another iPhoto?
    Thanks!

    Hi Andrew,
you can use iPhoto sharing, but both users must have iPhoto open.
Here are my links on sharing, and also some links on sharing one iPhoto Library on the same computer. I think the best bet for you is to put the library on an external drive and both you and your wife can access it. The info for this is in the iPhoto Library Manager link documentation page for "sharing libraries"
    SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

  • I have Windows7.  HOw can I download shared photostream photos from others' shared photostream

I use Windows7.  How can I download shared photostream photos from others' shared photosteam photos using ICloud?

How are you doing the downloading?
If you download raw files with iPhoto, iPhoto can only edit the JPEG preview that is embedded with each raw file. iPhoto is not a true raw editor, because it's a consumer-level product, not professional-level.
The files should remain in RAW format if you download any of these ways, by using:
Apple Image Capture (in your Utilities folder)
Canon Digital Photo Professional (comes with your camera, but since the 40D is so old, go to the Canon site and upgrade your copy to the latest version for compatibility with the latest Mac OS X)
    Apple Aperture
    Adobe Lightroom
Any other professional raw organizer/editor like Capture One

  • How do you not share contacts on your iPad and iPhone when sharing an apple ID, How do you not share contacts on your iPad and iPhone when sharing an apple ID

How do you not share contacts when having an iPad and iPhone when you share an apple ID

Presumably you mean you are sharing the same iCloud account? Except for turning off contacts on one of the devices, you can't stop sharing contacts. iCloud accounts are not designed to be shared among different people with different personal data.
You should each gave your own personal iCloud account, setup under your own individual AppleID.
You can still use the shared AppleID for the iTunes and AppStore purchases you already have though.

  • Is there a way to decorate your folder icons on the desktop?

Besides just simply using color label, are there other options for this?
Perhaps attaching a photoshoped image to your folder, instead of just having the simple blue folder icon?
    Thanks everyone.

you can change about any icon you want.
    Try this:

    Hello JimS19,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPad. If you are having issues accessing your Shared Albums from your iPad (but not from your other devices), you may want to double-check your iCloud Photo Sharing configuration as outlined in the following articles, just to make sure it hasn't changed:

I am running a dual system network with PC's and Macs. The files are, and always have been, located on an external drive attached to the primary PC as a shared drive.  PLEASE HELP

  • Error: Your request can't be completed right now. Please try again later.

I have MS Exchange 2007 - 2013 CU3 coexistence at two sites connected by VPN link.
OWA and Outlook work fine for mailboxes on 2007 server. OWA does not work for mailboxes on 2013 server, however Outlook connects fine to any mailbox on 2013 server.
Here is what happens with OWA.
Users (Moved from 2007 or Created on 2013) can log in to OWA and see their mailbox folder structure and messages, but when they click on any email they get "Error: Your request can't be completed right now. Please try again later. " instead of
the message body. When they try to create a new message via OWA, GAL lookup does not seem to be working, everyone gets "Error:
The message can't be sent because at least one recipient isn't valid."
I can't see any errors in the application event viewer that get logged during OWA session.
HTTP Log has the following error codes: 241,242,302,401,403,405,500.
I am not sure at this point, but I think 405 is the HTTP error that can be associated with errors displayed in OWA

  • I can't access shared drives and printers

My home has been wired with ethernet cables, so there are ethernet jacks in every room. There is one central place where they all the ethernet cables meet to connect to a hub and a cable modem. At this central place I have a D-Link 802.11g router connected to the hub. At the other end of my home I have a Airport Extreme base station connected to an ethernet jack. I have WEP password on the base station.
My problem is that when there is a password on the base station I can't access shared drives and printers. I can only acces them if I am connected with a wire or I connect to the secured (password) D-Link Wifi router that is connected directly to the hub.
What do I need to do to be able to access the shared drives and printers and keep my base station secured?
    Thank you.

Whether or not you can access devices on your cabled network via the Airport Base Station is not dependent on whether or not wireless security is configured on that base station. Instead, it requires disabling the router built into the Base Station. See the article ABS as a wireless access point

  • ITunes will not open because the iTunes folder can't be found!

Okay, so I am trying to open iTunes and it is saying it can't open because the iTunes folder can't be found or created. The problem is it is RIGHT WHERE it is supposed to be, in the music folder. I click in and try, but it doesn't work. AT ALL. I'm more than a little angry. I just downloaded the latest iTunes, and I'm kind of upset bcause that is why it isn't working- it didn't have a problem before.
Can someone PLEASE tell me what is going on and how I fix it?

    Try this.
Press and hold the option key while starting itunes.
    Create a new library.
Select your existing itunes folder in your music folder.
With luck it will be happy now.

  • Windows XP PC can't see shared files on Mac

Our Mac Pro running OS X 10.5.8 can access all the shared folders on our Windows XP PC. In addition, all our other Macs can access the shared folders on our Mac Pro.
However - the XP PC cannot access any shared folders on the Mac Pro!
Any ideas how to fix this situation, and allow the XP PC to access our Mac Pro's shared folders?

If your Mac Pro has FileVault on, your Windows XP machine will not be able to access the files, as FileVault disables SMB and printer sharing for Windows XP clients.
In case FileVault is not on, you could try temporarily disabling the Windows firewall and the anivirus and/or internet security suite on the WinPC, and see whether it can access the files on your Mac Pro.
    Good Luck.
