Your iphone is a mini computer, restart it !!

Your iphone is a mini computer, restart it !!
like any computer you have ever used....after installing new stuff or if u have problems sometimes it just needs a simple restart. hold the slep and homekey together until the phone shuts off and turns back on!!!

Good stuff !!
Your right !! This is not a cure-all for everything but the first step in troubleshooting anything programmable is to reboot/reset/resync !!
Phones/computers/routers etc etc
Surprisingly most people overlook this 1st step ?
I've updated our 3 iPhone 3GS , 1 had sync problem, 1 a battery drainage problem and the other worked fine. A simple reset fixed all problems, although the 1 with batt problem also needed to be drained and recharged 1 cycle b4 it was ok.
Again, this will not solve everyones issues but OMG at least try it please !!!!

If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step... Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Can I install program on an Iphone like a mini computer

My dad he has some kind of phone that use windows and it's a touch screen and can use as a mini computer but not a laptop and he can install program on it. for example because I'm from different country but I'm living in USA right now and I want to buy an Iphone. I want to install the program that I have which is dictionary from English to my language. I'm wondering if I can install a dictionary on my Iphone so whenever I don't understand words that my friends said so I can always translate it to my language with my Iphone. I have a program with me.
    Thank you

The iPhone does not allow third-party apps to be installed currently. Also, it depends on the "program" you're talking about.. if it's some Windows app, then of course it won't work. Software applications have to be compiled to run on the operating system of the device.

  • Does iCal sync with your iPhone automatically without hooking your iPhone up to the computer all the time?  Does it automatically show up on your Calendar on your iPhone like how Gmail does that?

I want to set up a calendar on my iCal but I don't want to do it unless I know it will sync automatically with my MacBook and iPhone.  Say I input an event on my iPhone, will it automatically show up on my computer's iCal right after I set the event?  I know Google Calendar does that and I wanted to see if iCal does the same thing without the hassle of connecting my iPhone to my MacBook.

In order to do this you need to sync to a CalDAV server: MobileMe has been used for this but you can't start a new account now. However iCloud is due to be rolled out next Wednesday and if you sign up for that (it's free) you can sync your Mac and your iPhone to it and it will behave as you want.

  • Can you update the OS of your iPhone 3GS on another computer?

I wanted to update the OS on my work computer, but my iPhone is only synced to my computer at home. I was wondering if I could update it at work without it getting erased.

iphone is synced at work to G5 and can't update to iOS 4.2.
If I update iphone 3Gs on intel mac at home to iOs 4.2, will I still be able to sync at work to G5 running 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1?

  • How can you unload your iphone contacts to a computer

When I purchased my phone from ATT, they copied my contacts from my existing phone memory card to the new iphone.  When looking in the iphone, the names aren't first and last, they're just one name so instead of 'Bob Jones' it came as  'Jones;Bob/H  - it was Bob Jones Home phone number.' .  No way to sort by 1st name because there isn't anyfirst name.
I would like to unload the contacts from the iphone into my pc, edit them and then load them back into the iphone.  Suggestions??
    Ron

Previous to starting this, I synced to icloud. And I  believe that itunes backed up all the info to windows contacts, so they were in 2 places and the phone.
From windows contacts, I deleted all the contacts and created several 'good' entries in windows contacts.
I went to the phone and went to settings>icloud>contacts and turnd the contacts OFF and I have a choice of  1)keep on my phone, 2)delete from my iphone, or cancel.  So no choice to MERGE; nothing referring to ADVANCED.   Am I in the right place to do what you're suggesting??  I don't think I am.

  • How can I sync apps from my iphone to a new computer

I did a restore today on my 3G. When I synced it to my new laptop (After a backup) my Iphone is now missing all my apps.
I tried to resync it to my old computer and its saying im not permitted to do that. Can I get my apps off my old computer and into my new computer so when I sync they all return onto my phone?
    Thanks

Yes - they are in ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications. First, in iTunes > Store menu, select Authorize Computer, then make sure you're signed into your iTunes Store account. Then copy the apps over from the old computer (use a flash drive, target disk mode, etc.). Then sync your iPhone to the new computer.

  • Syncing iphone to a new computer without losing anything on my phone

So my poor Mac has a black screen and I have a used Dell I am using until I can get her up and going.  What I need to do is update my phone.  How do I backup my phone to itunes with the new computer and NOT lose any data.  BTW I did not have opportunity to make any back up disks.  I did authorize this Dell I am using.  Am I screwed?

Make sure when you connect your iPhone to the next computer that you have gone into 'X's iPhone' and made sure that in the music, apps, photos and whatever you don't want deleted that the box is ticked.

  • Using an iPhone with a new computer

I've had my iPhone for almost a year now, and it has been synced with my iMac G5. So, all of my songs, photos, etc. on my iPhone came from this mac.
I just got a MacBook Pro and since I'll be going to college this year I'll be using my MacBook Pro and not my desktop mac. Is there any way for me to transfer the data that's on my iPhone from my mac over to my MacBook Pro? Is it as simple as saving all of my songs to an external hard drive, importing them onto the MacBook Pro and re-syncing my iPhone to that laptop? If it's this simple then I'll do that, but isn't an iPhone programed to whatever computer you first used it with?
I'm sorry if this is too long or confusing. Basically, I'm not going to be using my desktop mac at college, I'll be using my MacBook Pro, but I still want to use my iPhone (which was originally synced with the desktop mac.) What do I do?
    Thank you in advance,
    -Karl

You should be able to sync the contacts and calendar data from your iPhone to the new computer. The only music you would be able to transfer from your iPhone to the computer is the purchased music.
To get the music, select "Transfer Purchases from..." at the bottom of the File menu in iTunes.
Alternatively, you can use the migration assistant and connect the MacBook Pro and iMac together using a firewire cable.
This article explains how to do that:

  • How do I sync iPhone to a new computer

I've just lost my old mac and will upgrade to a new model. How can I sync iPhone to the new mac? I made the iTunes backup. What other steps should i take to avoid losing my info and settings? Please help

You won't lose any of your iPhone settings when syncing your iPhone with a new computer. When doing so, iTunes on the new computer will create a backup of your iPhone where your iPhone settings are stored.
In addition to an iTunes backup, did you also create a backup of photos that were stored on your old Mac along with contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks?
Before syncing your iPhone, you need to transfer your iTunes library from your old Mac to your new. Then authorize your new Mac with iTunes with your iTunes account. Did you de-authorize your old Mac with iTunes? You can have up to 5 computers authorized with the same iTunes account.
Also before syncing, enter one contact in the Address Book, and one calendar events in iCal on your new Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later after the first sync. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select - especially if you don't have a backup of contact information and calendar events from your old Mac.
If you use iPhoto for transferring photos from your computer to your iPhone, you need to transfer your iPhoto library from your old Mac to your new or any photos that were transferred from your old Mac to your iPhone will be lost when transferring photos to your iPhone from your new Mac.

  • What do you do when you forget your iphone passcode?

I forgot my iphone passcode i was wondering how do you get that passcode?

You will need to restore your iPhone from the same computer that you most recently synced to.
    Read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If you can't do the restore then you will need to try recovery mode.

  • HT204022 how to delete photos from my iphone using a personal computer

How can i delete pictures from my iphone 4  from my personal computer

Well, if they were synced fomr a computer then the iPhone says the computer "owns" them for instructional purposes.  You have two options.
    1) Plug your iPhone up to any computer with iTunes.  You can get itunes at www.itunes.com  Then tell it to sync photos, but then select no photos or an empty folder.  This will override what the previous computer put on your iPhone.
    2) Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings and say goodbye to everything including those synced photos.  If you make a quick backup first in iCloud (be sure it finishes) then you can restore form your iCloud backup via Wifi and those synced photos wont be there.  How to backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766

  • HT1420 If I Authorized anothe computer will it delete my music on my iPhone and/or my computer

I just need to know before I try to put my music on my phone and mess up everything

You can have your account authorised on up to 5 computers at any one time, so authorising another computer won't affect your existing computer nor your iPhone - and deauthorising a computer doesn't remove any content from a computer, it just means that you won't be able to use any iTunes downloads on it until you reauthorise it.
