Your Ipod Software Needs Updated

Is there any way to kake this popup box stop asking me to update my software everytime I plug my Ipod in ? I downgraded to 1.0 version to fix my 60gb 5G video freeze problem. Now I have to wait for this stupid box to pop up and cancel it everytime. I'm tired of it. Thanks in advance.

It does stop on the Mac after you have it downloaded but not installed on the iPod.

  • Problem Updating Your iPod Software

I am running Windows Itunes 6.0 and Nano version 1.0
I keep getting messages when I open Itunes saying I need to update my software and I follow all the prompts, extract files etc and then it tells me to restart my computer. I do that and nothing has changed. I am still working with the same software and it tells me I need to update.
the Tutorial references a Updating Your iPod Software
that never pops up for me.
    Any suggestion?

Best and simple way is to uninstall your current iTunes and iPod Updater and download the last below

  • Error copying iTunes store video to iPod. "your iPod software is too old"

I just purchased Coldplay's video "Live from Austin City Limits" on the iTunes Music Store. When I attempt to copy the files to my iPod, I get the following messages:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod "IPOD" because your iPod software is too old. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update."
I have a 30 GB black iPod (bought about 2 months ago) running software version 1.1.1. When I go to the "Update" page in iTunes, I'm told that my software is up to date...
What's wrong? How can my software be both up to date and too old to run the video? (I have other video stored on this iPod as well).
    Thanks

I believe you need 1.2 on the iPod
There are so many threads on the board about these issues I don't remember where I read it, but there is a solution that involves deleting an ipod file which forces the thing to reinstall it.
I myself had a long nightmare of a time trying to update my 60g to 1.2 but I finally got it to work by doing it on my laptop.

  • "Your IPOD software is too Old." music won't copy to ipod

Here is back history; My Ipod Video 30gb stopped mounting (Windows formatted IPOD with the latest software- updater 03-23-2006). I tried the 5 R's on my PC. with no result. Managed to mount it with disk Utility on my MacBookPro in disk mode and erase it. Then restored it on my PC. After this the Ipod appears on the Mac as an IPOD mini icon on desktop and Itunes instead of as a Video Ipod (prior to orig. mounting problem it worked on both platforms.Appears on PC as correct icon, Ipod Video. I am unable to put video files on the Ipod when working on MacBookPro. Also, songs purchased in the music store on the MacBookPro give that message " your ipod software is too old".

Happy to have been of help. Hope all goes smoothly.
BTW, for the sake of others who may help you here, it's usually most polite if you mark the post that answered your question as being the one that "solves" it, not your own post. That's how people get points here, if a questioner marks their post as either "helpful" or "solving". It's not an issue for me, but for those just starting out in the forums it may be important to them. See:

Follow these instructions. When you restore from backup as the article says the iPod will also be updated.

  • IPod Software - needed after update?

Quick question about the iPod software updater. Does anyone know if I really need it on my computer to run my iPod on the computer? It takes up 171 MB on my work computer and I think that's what is slowing the computer down. It's by far the largest file on the computer.
Also -is it okay to delete the old updates? They also take up 170+ MB.
    Cheers.

You need the current one on your computer (2006-06-28). Keep it there.
You can uninstall the older iPod Updaters. The only "con" to this is that if you ever want to use an older version of iPod software (such as 1.0 or 1.1.1), you won't be able to.

  • HT1414 i am following the instructions given and clicking on update but it just says that my ipod doesnt need updating. But when i go to download apps every single one says i need an upgrade on my iso

i really need some help, no app is downloading on to my ipod :/

What generation is your iPod? Some apps require the latest iOS to operate fully. And only iPod 3rd and 4th generation can upgrade to latest iOS.
This could be part of the issue, just a suggestion.
 also you could check settings>general>software update section on iPod also.
    Hope this helps !!

  • ITunes crashed while iPod software being updated

I didn't notice this variation of the problem in any other post.
I was downloading a CD into iTunes. Meanwhile, I plugged in my iPod (color display). (It happened to be in lock mode at the time.)
The message came up about updating the iPod software, so I decided to give it a shot.
    Here's what happened:
The update and the download from the CD both froze. The displays were still there and no error messages came up. They just stopped.
My iPod was not visible in iTunes or my desktop, although the "Do not disconnect" message still showed on the iPod screen, which remains lit but not brightly.
I have re-started the computer. I have tried toggling the lock switch, pressing the center and play buttons simultaneously, I have re-started iTunes, I have unplugged and re-plugged the iPod, but nothing changes in it. I understand now that I had too many processes going, but now what can I try?

Well, it fixed itself. I am grateful when such a little machine can out-think me and solve its own problems.

  • IPod software needs to give more shuffle options

    Hi,
I'm pretty sure current iPod software can't do this so I think what I'm posting here is an enhancement request. However if you know how I can achieve what I want I will love you forever!
My iPod listening time is split roughly 50/50 between Albums and Playlists. When I listen to an album I want the tracks to play in the proper order but when I choose a playlist I want the songs to be shuffled. Right now I have to manually change Settings... Shuffle every time and it's a real pain.
Apple: could we have more shuffle options such as
    Shuffle:
    Albums = No
    Playlists = Songs
    Thanks

You are correct, the iPod has no such setting.

We tend to keep answers on the public forum, that way, anyone else who is expereincing the same problem has the benefit of your experience.
If your iPod is not recognised by the computer when you plug it in, try resetting it (with it connected). Hold down the menu/select buttons until you see the Apple logo. May take several tries.

  • I need to update ipod software, but update button is faded

When I'm uploading music to my ipod, a message appears that says some of my songs aren't going to upload because I need to update. But when I try using the ipod updater, I only get the choice to restore, which I want to try and avoid.
Why is update faded out? Next to the version of iPod sotware I'm running it says I need to update but it won't let me. I'm following all the instructions that I can find but I'm still having problems.
This is a 15g ipod with the four buttons on the front. Please help! Thanks.

Incredibly I have been through this miserable scenario - and posted about it in another thread. I finaly succeeed in overcoming it. How you ask. Well ( and I am one who just bought a Mac and was thinking of switching for good) - a Windows 200 Machine running an old 4.x version of iTunes. Say's I said a Windows machine !
As soon as I dowenloaded and installed the updater it allowed me to upgrade - and I did to 2.3. So the probelem is either the Mac version or more liley 5.0 itself.
Now why oh why would I have to use a 4 yeard lod Windows 200 machine to update to the latest firmware on my Apple iPod, to make be able to play music that I purchased from the Appple store - somethng I could not do with my brand new Apple G5 anf Apple iTunes 5.0. I seem like I am repeating Apple again and again. Yeah ...right. good thing I didn;t throw ou that old Windows piece of junk huh ? Long live Bill Gates - simple, eee-gadds - dare I say user-friendly computing. Did I say that ?

  • How do you keep your ipod apps after updating to the 4.0 upgrade?

I first backed up my iPod touch to keep all of my apps. Then I updated it to 4.0, when I got finished it didn't have any of my apps except the original ones from the iTouch. So I went to click restore from back up and it said that the 4.0 update would go away if I restored from backup. So how do I keep my apps and the update? I have bought some of the apps and do not think it would be fair to re buy them.

No, a backup won't do anything, you need to check your sync settings and then re-sync.
1- Connect your Touch to iTunes
2- Verify that your App sync preferences are set correctly
3- Verify that all your other sync preferences (Music, Video, Podcast) are set correctly
4- Click Apply if you made any changes, or click Sync to initiate a sync w/o any changes.
Assuming the missing Apps are in your iTunes, they should be added to your Touch after you re-sync.
