Your kind thoughts on sharing a monitor
Comrades!
I have a Macbook Pro (dual core 2.5 Intel). I just bought it used from a good friend (so I can burn down his house if things go awry).
I want to use it with my Apple Cinema Display (OK, you say, go for it) but ah-ha, I need to make my life endlessly complicated - whilst trying to simplify it (a bit like this sentence, really).
But I digress.
What I want is to connect my ancient G5 Power Mac to the same monitor as the Intel MacBook Pro.
I need to go back and forth between the two machines but only have room for one monitor). I have heard that doo-dahs called a KVM can do this. I only want to share the monitor - not the keyboard or mouse).
Any thoughts anyone on how to do this (other than buy a bigger house)?

I have managed an on-the-cheap version of what you are asking. My late-model G4 tower is driving a 22" widescreen monitor that has both VGA and DVI ports. And the monitor came with both cables. When it's not traveling, the MBP (Late 2007 2.2G 15") sits to the right of the G4 tower.
I have both the VGA and the DVI cables connected to the monitor at all times. The DVI cable hangs over the back of the workstation near the MBP. When I need to use a larger monitor on the MBP, I shut down the G4 and pick up the loose DVI cable and plug it to the MBP. I don't have to take the VGA cable off to do this.
Pros: dirt cheap--I had everything I needed already; I don't have to fight the cables on the back of teh monitor; I can have the MBP on the big monitor in seconds.
Con--I have to shut down the G4

Apple tv communties said the Apple tv cannot do this, but maybe another type device can?My thunderbolt port stopped working on my late 2011 MacBook Pro rendering my external monitor useless--or so I thought.
Mac Genius suggested using the Apple TV via AirPlay Display as a $100 solution. Took me all of 6 minutes to figure this out as there are no directions in the Apple TV box supporting this. But, it does work and I am now back in business.
PS. Don't set up with bluetooth--seems logical but you want to use AirPlay Display under Settings > Displays.
Also, I originally thought my external monitor stopped working because I upgraded the OS. This time, it was definitely a hardware issue and not software. It also fixed a known sound issue my monitor had with Macs. First time in my 15 years I've ever had a ViewSonic have issues with an Apple product, too. Thanfully, it is now fixed.

I have OS 10.8.2 and connected the scanner Canoscan Lide110. I downloaded the drivers, looked installed, the scanner appears in the system preferencies, but it doesn't open!!! what i have to do? thanks in advance for your kind advice!
Thanks for your help Karen Serena. Obviously, it appears in the list of printers and scaners on the left, into the "Print and Scan" with system preferencies. Then i click it , it appears on the right, then i click "open scanner" below the name and opens a window writing "open device failed". When i connect the scanner, it makes a sound but that's all...the scanner is dead, even if I push any button...Also there isn't any window opened to prove the function of the scanner, only is shown in the scanner list, that's all.

I presume you mean you want to view your computer screen on your TV by going through the Apple TV. Right now you can't do that but the next version of Mac OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, will allow Mac computers to mirror their computer screen on a TV connected to Apple TV.

I have a Biege G3MT with G4 upgrade card- running 10.2.8-
I just moved and have to share office space with my wife who uses a PC- she is running Windows XP-
My question is this- we have limited desktop space- Is it possible to share her monitor? It's a gateway 17 inch monitor. So it woulkd be 2 Minitowers sharing one Monitor.

I have just updated my MBP 17 / retina display to Maverick OS. I am unable to shutdown or log off. When i press the shutdown button, a black screen appears which goes off on pressing any key. The shutdown or log off dialog does not appear. Your kind help is much appreciated.
The button response has changed.
Short press : sleep
Medium press (2-3 sec) : restart, shutdown, sleep dialog
Long press : force shutdown. (Same as before) -

Choose Utilities from the Finder’s Go menu, open the Disk Utility, create two or three additional partitions(see below), and install or clone a different Mac OS X version to each.

Correct, it will only be one-level, the Photos app doesn't support sub-albums - the sub-folders photos will be included in the parent's album.
If you select My Pictures at the top of the Photos tab when syncing, then you should get an album for each folder that is directly under it - so if I understand correctly what you described then that would mean an album for 2013, one for 2012 etc. And each of those should include all the photos in the subfolders under it - so 2013 would include the photos from the events and months subfolders under it.
You can't sync them separately, only the contents of the last sync remains on the iPad, by not including a folder in the next photo sync you are effectively telling iTunes that you no longer want that folder/album on the iPad so it will be removed and be replaced by the contents of the new sync (you can't delete synced photos directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next sync).
The app that I use, Photo Manager Pro, allows you to select and copy a folder (via FTP), but you would need to select each subfolder individually, which if you have a lot would be time-consuming (I think that if you select '2013' it would ignore the folders beneath it). -

I am purchasing a Mac Mini to replace my personal computer. I have one monitor/KB/mouse setup shared between my work and personal PC, switched back and forth via a USB KVM switch (http://www.iogear.com/product/GCS632U/)
I want to go with the Apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard with the purchase of my mac mini, but how can I make it so it will work with both my work PC (Windows XP Dell laptop docked) and my new mac mini?
Should I purchase a USB bluetooth dongle and connect that to the mini KVM switch? Or should I just plug the USB dongle into my docked laptop and pair with both the mini and the PC (if pairing to both is even possible)?

Mini and Playstation sharing a monitor

Currently we are using an old crt with our Mac Mini and an old television with our PlayStation. I would like to buy a new lcd display (2 different inputs) which could be shared with both the Mini and our PS2.
Does anyone use a setup like this? What display resolution do you recommend? What about the size, is 17" enough? Experiencies?
Mini Mac OS X (10.4.3)I am using a Samsung 17" LCD TV in such an arrangement. I can't remember the model number of the Samsung, but it doesn' t matter because it is 3-years old and I am sure no longer for sale. The newer ones are better anyway, and cheaper. The display is 1280x768 which is pretty useable as a computer monitor through the VGA port. 17" is adequate for our setup but it really depends on how close you sit as to whether 17" will work for you. You'll probably want to go bigger if this is your primary TV.
