Your mail index has been damaged

I recently upgraded my I-max to Yosemite.  Now my email is not working.   Says" Your mail index has been damaged.  To repair it, quit mail.  Your mail boxes and messages will be preserved".

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Launch Mail. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Your mail index has been damaged. should I delete all of my Envelope Index files?

When I attempt to launch mail, it begins by telling me that I need to import messages. Then it says upgrading mail database, then migrating data, then upgrade failed, click continue to launch mail assistant. When you click on that, the next message that comes up is your mail index has been damaged and will be fixed the next time Mail launches, only it doesn't. I go through the entire process again. Someone last night said something about deleting the Envelope Index files. Should I get rid of all of them? The person mentioned 3 of the files (Envelope Index, Envelope Index-wal, Envelope Index-shm), but I have 15 files altogether.

I should add that several of the Envelope Index files are in two different places; the bulk are in Library/Mail/V2-Temp.noindex/MailData/, the rest are in Library/Mail/

  • Why repeated "Your Mail index has been damaged" errors?

In my Mail.app (running on a white MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard) I frequently (sometimes daily) get the "Your Mail index has been damaged. To repair it, quit Mail." messages. Either letting the system repair or just Force Quit & restarting then I'm away again, but only for a few hours or days.
Any ideas how to debug what's causing this? It's making Mail totally unusable.
I use IMAP for about 5 accounts with this app. I don't have any problems with other Mail clients.
    Thanks, Michael

I am not a clued up user as you might realise. I do not get nor can a search find a library folder nor any of the other files you have mentioned

  • Your Mail Index has been damaged. To repair it, quit Mail.

This is the second time in two weeks this has happened. Last time, it worked (Mail says it has to import messages) BUT: I end up with 35,000 unread emails, when I had 73 before!
I have 7 email accounts here, all running IMAP, 1 gmail.
We've had lots of little transient electrical drops lately but the APS seems to catch them almost instantly.
Is there some alternate way for me to avoid the Import action? Some other way to rebuild the index w/o doing this import?
What is Mail doing using an import? Where is it importing from?

  • My MAIL index has been reshuffled

A few days ago I noticed that the order of the items in the column to the left of my E-mail library had been changed. I could still find my IN and OUT folders, so that didn't bother me. Today, however, I noticed that certain files were missing. I make it a practice of storing E-mail messages. I have files for LOCAL and OVERSEAS, into which I place the appropriate messages.  Today both of those files are missing. Is there a way to restore my original index layout? I might add that another change is that I now have many files there that weren't there before. In other words, I don't want them there.

Finder/Sidebar - under Favorites do you see a 'house' looking icon? That is your user folder and it should be labeled with your user name. If you don't see it, of to Finder/Preferences/Sidebar and check the 'house' icon under Favorites. Once you see the user folder, select it and there should be a sub-folder named Pictures, which should contain your iPhoto Library.
You can also access it through the hard drive/Users.
Thanks for your patience and tolerance. Yes, I know that little icon. A few days ago, I noticed that it was missing, so I had to drag it into place. I've always heard of it referred to as "home". You're right., It does have my user name.  Anyway, I now have to do something which I dread even more: treating the underside of my mobile home with termiticide. I'll be there for the next several hours, and it's now hot and muggy. I doubt that I'll have energy enough to continue with my computer when I return. There's always tomorrow, though. Thanks for your help.

  • I just got my iPhone yesterday. Everytime I try to download anything it keeps displaying "Your Apple ID has been disabled." and I do not know what to do.  I sent off my e-mail to Apple last night and I am still waiting for a response.

I just got my iPhone 4 yesterday after having a Blackberry for 3 years.  Everytime I try to download any type of application it keeps displaying "Your Apple ID has been disabled."  Before activating my iPhone I downloaded the most recent iTunes.  I even went back today I reset my password after some minor research made the suggestion.  I sent an e-mail off to to Apple last night after their Apple tech was no help at all.  He is the one that suggested the e-mail and that he could not help me.  I am really frustrated at this point.  I am hoping that someone will be able to help me out.  I was extremely excited about getting my new iPhone 4 and now I am just over it!  Help please!!!

You need to contact iTunes support and send an email by following the link I posted.
    Simply going there does nothing.

Be sure you are checking the email account that you used to set up the Apple ID you used to create the iCloud account.  Also, be sure to check your spam/junk folder as well as your inbox.  The email you should receive looks like the image below.  When you get it, click the Verify Now link.
If it still isn't there, try going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right look for a link to resend the verification email.

It sounds like your file associations are messed up and Reader is trying to open your .jpg files. Is this correct?
If so, you just need to change the associations to choose what application opens them. Here's how: Change File Associations in Mac OS X
