I have been checking out the NFORCE2 for a while now and read the KT400 vs NFORCE2 Chipset review. I like the ram solution on this board as well as the OC capability of the different boards. The new ASUS version even has a built in network capability that lets you share internet connection with your network. I only hope the early reviews were wrong and that after the delayed launch, they got it right the first time My motto? NEVER BUY A VERSION #1 ANYTHING." I bought the new KT4ULTRA-SR because of all the MARKET HYPE about the KT400 chpset last FEB./ Such things as 8x agp 200 fsb BOOT from USB2.o Serial ATA raid iee1394 and lan All on 1 board. The KT4 ULTRA-FISR is only now hitting the market. I DIDN't wait and settled for a KT4 ULTRA-SR It's avery good board but it aint no overclocker. MSI doesn't REALLY endorse OC on the via chipset. I will be moving up the ladder as soon as the CHAINTECH hits the market and is out there a while and they revise the chip to take care of all the problems that"Worked in the lab." BIGDADDY51 CT. If I use Explorer, none of these problems exist. This suddenly happened overnight! I have your newest upgrade and I haven't had any problems for the past year or so....this is weird.

1. only in firefox - flashplayer won't upgrade, endless loop of "add plug-ins" etc.
2. vertical scroll bar flipped from left side to right.
3. crtl ++ to zoom doesn't function.
4. can't load any "personas" when in Google gmail.

To fix: AVG > Tools > Advanced Settings > LinkScanner > Untick the 3rd Option > APPLY> OK

Your scary posts have put me off installing '08

I live in the UK and ordered iLife 08 the other day from the Apple store. Now after reading all these scary posts im not going to install it on any of my machines until there is an update posted by Apple.
Like most of you I have very important photo page sites that I have created for a client, who is amazed what I can produce in such a short timescale with Apple software and hardware - and because of this I have had thousands of pound of work from them. So as my sites work fine with the older version of iWeb I will not be upgrading as yet.
I find it unacceptable that we are unknowingly purchasing a "beta version" of tried and tested software, it makes the demo film look like a joke. Yes we will always find the odd bug in new software - but from what I have read here in the past few days, it seems much more than a few bugs!
Has anyone had success with the new version?

Can the forum posts be sorted so that the newest posts/replies appear at the top of the list?

We are getting some good activity now. I'm mainly interested in the EOS sub-topic. But when I go there the posts are not in order by the most recent activity. Can you add the feature to sort by Latest Activity so recent posts show at the top?

surely the best tips and hints would be as follows:
1: skype, implement privacy settings that actually work. if you are unable to do so, do not offer them, and do not claim that they work.
2: try another provider.
3: try not to throw your computer out the window in frustration at how long this ridiculous problem has been going on with NO RESOLUTION

Please try this:
Please right click on the Skype Icon in your system tray and change your status to "Offline" for 5 seconds and then back to "Online".
Note: In almost all cases, this will fix this issue when/if it is found and needs to be done only once.

LR Color Management - Calibration and Monitor (not your typical post)

Hi everybody,
I see that there are still many issues around color management and printing in LR. I have had similar problems in past and Im still trying to work though them. The most touted problem is not calibrating or having a bad monitor profile. Well, I have tried calibrating my display with worse results. I get better results with an un-calibrated display, not exact results, but closer than with a calibrated display. My only computer is a Dell Latitude D830 with an LCD display and Nvidia Quadro 140M graphics card with a Spyder2 Suite calibration tool.
After doing a fair bit of research online and speaking to other photographers (pro and amateur) Ive learned that laptop displays are notoriously difficult to calibrate due to their inability to display a wide range of color and contrast. There is also no way to adjust white point, RGB or any other setting on my display, only brightness and contrast. (perhaps a big part of the problem?)
I was told that only high end displays (NEC, LaCie, Eizo etc @ $1000,00 this being the low end, and up) were the only way to get accurate colors. Others had said that LG and Samsung make a decent display at the $300.00 price point that would deliver good results but not pro level color management. Other than that go, back to an old CRT display. What is a semi-pro level display that renders excellent color that I wont have to re-mortgage my house to pay for?
So heres my question to all of those who have said you need to calibrate and you have a bad profile can you please tell us your system set up (i.e. display, calibration tool, room lighting and set up etc..)?
Im really interested in what you are doing more, better or differently than everyone else.

Nothing much. Same calibrator in addition to another Huey Pro which gives almost indistinguishable results. I use both a Apple Mac Book Pro and a Mac Pro with a 30" DELL wide gamut adobeRGB display. Colors on the two are identical (if they're not outside of the laptop's gamut) and identical to prints from labs and direct prints. Of course these displays are between far better and quite a bit better than the display on a typical Dell laptop that are notoriously bad. One of the things I have to do on the laptop is to get the display at the right angle. The trick I use is to have a window open with this image: http://www.normankoren.com/monitor_test_txt22.png

If you're looking at your monitor at the right angle and you have calibrated the display correctly, the color should look homogeneous (i.e. completely neutral and the same grey everywhere). If you cannot find an angle at which this is correct, than it is likely your monitor can simply not be calibrated or that your calibrator is defective (there was a batch of defective Spyders a while ago). In general, it is certainly not true that laptop displays cannot be calibrated.

They are quite wrong and a rather snooty thing to say. The point of these high priced displays is that they will give better color in [B]non[/B]-colormanaged applications, but with a good calibrator, a reasonably good screen and [B]correct color management [/B](such as that in Lightroom, Photoshop, preview.app, Safari, etc.) you will get about as good color as the more expensive displays. Some of these, such as the EIZO give you wider gamuts higher bit color, or hardware adjustable white point, which are also a major selling points if you're doing very critical work but only if paired with good calibration and managed apps. Pro level color management is a function of the calibrator and the software - and only in part of the display. Most displays, with a few exceptions, can be made to give good color, as long as you use a hardware calibrator and managed apps.

If 10.4.8 **DID NOT** screw up your MBP, post here please!

Based on what I've read here and about half a dozen other Mac forums, this release has torched a lot of people across all the Mac platforms.
Common sense tells me to sit this one out. However, I want to know how many of you upgraded your MBP to 10.4.8 *without a hitch*.
Please specify if you did the combo or software update method.

Ok what's the point? Once you get 17.5 responses you're going to say ok I'm going to install 10.4.8?
Mine had a few minor glitches the past day or two, seems to be working fine now. It's hard to say whether it's a function of the update or a function of other things installed.
If your computer works great with a previous version and you're truly worried, don't update. There are enough people here stating their problems are caused by 10.4.8. But how do they really know?
The only reason why I say this is because those other people are having legitimate problems with their computers and their threads don't deserve to be bumped down by ones of people saying "oh yeah, mine works fine", "mine works just dandy", "works great", "no problems here"... for NO reason.
I would take the other threads as your advice, and to be cautious in installing 10.4.8. But then again, the correlation does not imply causation.

You forcibly updated me to your newest version, and it stops responding every 5-10 minutes. Firefox used to never do this.

You updated me to FF 28 back in April, and that version hung and hung and hung like never before - every 5-10 minutes at times! I rolled back to a prior version, and Firefox was finally usable again.
You forcibly updated me to FF 30 this week, and guess what? Firefox is back to being unstable and unusable.
Why are you forcing updates on me to browser versions that are more unreliable than their predecessors? And why are your newer versions pausing and hanging so often?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

I have been using Firefox for years. I just downloaded your newest version. The new version shows to be downloaded successfully, but when I click Firefox Icon, I get a window that is called "Offline mode"

It states, "Firefox is curerntly in offline mode and cona't browse the web. It says to uncheck the "work offline" menu item.
