Configuring RAC for JBoss

Hi,
We are actually configuring our Oracle RAC with JBoss.
We did a big test last saturday, and we could notice from that that when a server in the oracle cluster fails, the connections are redirected to the other server.
But, when the other server is up again, the connections does not come back to this server.
My impressions are that until the JBoss pool requests new connections, the active connections will not migrate back to the other server - then - load balancing is not being done as expected.
Somebody have any idea on how to fix that? I could find about ONS on Internet, and thought it could solve the situation, but didn´t find much information about integrating it on JBoss.

This is a JBoss issue - not Oracle's. Oracle only guarantees high availability in that it will fail over connections to another working RAC node.

Oh look... shiny can full of worms. ;-)
Yeah.. a slightly controversial subject. I'm of the opinion that app connection pools are actually junk and does not achieve what is intended.
There are several reasons.
Application code often leak cursor handles and do other stupid things. Yeah, I know.. Java coders. Closing the connection when done ensures that the session on the Oracle side is closed and resources freed.
App developers have no idea about session state on the database server side - and do not know how to correctly deal with re-using the very same Oracle session for another end-user.
Oracle security, when dealing with stateless clients, is best dealt with a single session and no re-using of sessions. That allows Oracle back-end developers to properly enforce FGAC and other security policies. We cannot automatically detect when a session is "re-used" by the app server for another end-user.
Performance. There is very little (if any at all) performance benefits as a shared connection is significantly faster than a dedicated server connected. This also means that the JBoss server is connected to a shared server pool on the Oracle side. Does it make sense to create yet another pool on the JBoss side to place in front of the Oracle shared server pool?
Question - what does Oracle's default application server use? Apache with mod_plsql using APEX?
A shared server pool. The mod_plsql connection pool on the Apache side is by default disabled.

EPM System Configurator runs for hours

Hi experts.
Have you ever experienced that your EPM system configurator runs for hours?
I have an 11.1.2.1 installation, and a few months ago, I applied a Reporting & Analysis patch which requires a redeploy of FR, framework and web analysis.
The redeployment took more than 1 hour 20 minutes when it usually takes around 10 minutes.

I checked the CPU and memory log at the time of the deployment, things seem to be normal.
Since i will be applying another patch on Reporting & Analysis soon, I am preparing the work plan and rundowns and I am trying to estimate how much time I need to do this patch.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I did some researches on my own and found out some article saying the following:

On page 103, it says something about the cluster or IPv6 problem. I don't think the IPv6 is our problem, and I couldn't find the log inside of my configtool log.

If it only happened once and then all the other occasions it was fine then what is to say it will happen again? I am not sure how easily you are going to find your answer to why it happened on that occasion, I know I was deploying a web application the other day and it took 30 mins when it should only take a few but this was on a shared vm infrastructure which could have been the cause.

How Do I Configure SSL for RAC Installation.

Experts,
Requesting your inputs on configuring SSL for my RAC environment.
- Oracle DB version is 11.2.0.2
- RAC is with two nodes.
- Two nodes are : rac1.oracle.com and rac2.oracle.com
- RAC setup has SCAN feature configured. SCAN FQDN : racscan.oracle.com
- All clients talk to RAC DB using SCAN feature as shown below.
client applications -> racscan.oracle.com ---> rac1.oracle.com
---> rac2.oracle.com
- tnsnames.ora file on both RAC instances has hostname as "racscan.oracle.com" instead of their individual phyiscal host names.
How do I configure SSL for RAC:
1. Do I need to generate certificate request for individual hostnames or only for SCAN hostname ?.
2. If I generate a certificate based on SCAN hostname, how does SSL work since SCAN hostname is not a phyiscal host name ?
3. What is recommended strategy for configuring SSL for RAC environment ?

The documentation on the creation of Oracle Wallets is not specific to RAC, and the RAC SCAN instructions for TCPS are very vague on the specific requirements for the certificates required in the wallets for proper operation. I too am struggling to get it to work. Does anyone have a more technical guide to the specific configuration of the certificates needed and what specific configuration file changes need to be made?
Also, the self signed documentation is getting REALLY old. Oracle, please stop giving instructions that demonstrate irresponsibility and show the proper method of certificate requesting and importing to wallets.

Jboss/tomcat mapping configuration error

I can't even get the combination to serve a .jsp file or .html file. Regardless of the URL that I attempt, I only get a No Context configured to process this request error from tomcat and INFO [Engine] StandardHost[localhost]: MAPPING configuration error for request URI from JBoss. I've tried to access all of the various webapps under the catalina directory and can't get to any of them. I know that catalina is started because the log file shows

For Tomcat 3.x you need to use one of the following options:
(Note: this is with JBoss/Tomcat OR JBoss/Jetty)
Place you .war files in the following location:
C:\jboss-3.0.3\server\default\deploy and the app is automatically available.
If my app's name is DavidOnline.war, when deployed, I can access it at
http://localhost:8080/DavidOnline..
OR
Copy your entire development directory to the deploy direction above, RENAME your
directory from say C:\JspApps to C:\JspApps.war and you can work from that location and see your changes immeadiatly.
There is a file called jboss-service.xml that has some config options, also for the Tomcat bundle there is a file named tomcat-service.xml that has the standard server.xml section.. I suggest you check out the JBoss website, free docs and forums.. http://www.jboss.org.

You can use JWDSP2.0 + Tomcat 5.X +Jdk1.5 to develop and deploy webservice.
Better IDEA are Intellij or Eclipse for webservice code development.

I already install Tomcat 3.2, but it give me (when I load my JSP pages) different error as JWSDK1.0.1 and , for sure, my code is correct : the only thing which convinced me to change my JAVA server is that I need to use the Resulset.first method (implemented in JDBC 2.0).

First I was able to get into the option 11 and run the whole factory reset, i was so happy because I tought it will be easy.. but then after I did the factory reset.. I keep getting this blue screen. if I press ESC I get into this next screen:
F1 System Information

F9 Boot Device Options
F10 BIOS Setup
F11 System Recovery
ENTER - Continue Startup.
this is what happen when I click any of this options:
F1 I get into the System Information with no problems, then I click <ESC> to continue and get back to the last screen... then I press F2 and super, I am able to run Memory Test and Hard Drive Check 100% with no problems in any of those, after I am done with my teste I press exit and I am back to the F1,F2, ETC menu... now I want to try F9, F10 or F11. bummer.. in this 3 options I get back to the blue screen described at the beggining of this post. (I already connect a USB with an boot loader, which works perfectly)
so I can't do anything, nothing at all!! crazzines.
So what I did to check why I can't get into the BIOS or at least to boot from my USB... I removed the botton cover of my laptop and removed the hard drive and that's how then I was or I am able to Log into the BIOS, - I did the changes to boot first from the USB and then from the HD and this is how I was able to boot from the USB - BUT If I connect back the Hard drive, I am not able to get into the BIOS or boot from the USB - so basically I am stuck in this blue screen and I can't boot from a USB if I have the HD connected.. I can't use any option.. no BIOS, nothing.. only if again, i disconnect the HD.

**** I though that by updating the BIOS I may be able to get help, nothing. What I did is, I removed the HD and then and boot from the USB and with a DOS command propmt I excecuted the Bios Update from F.21 to f.25... but again, when I installed the hard drive back, BUMMER, nothing I can't do nothing but this silly blue screen.
Any idea of what should I do?

If you can't access BIOS with the hard disk connected, you certainly won't be able to boot to the usb recovery flashdrive. That is indicative of a failed hard disk.
Install a new hard disk and then boot to the recovery flashdrive.

Office 2013 RMS Client Configuration - Your Machine is not setup for IRM

Hi All,
I have successfully setup a test AD RMS farm but stuck at trying to configure Office 2013 to work with this. The farm configuration is as below
DC: Windows 2003
AD RMS Server: Windows 2008/ SQL Server 2008 R2
Client: Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2013 32 bit, Domain Joined
Client is domain joined and SCP has been successfully registered ( I can see the SCP in AD RMS properties).
When I open word and select Protect Document -> Restrict Access, the only option is to Connect to RMS Server and get template, which eventually gives an error
Your Machine isn't setup for Information Rights Management (IRM). To set up IRM, sign in to office, open an existing IRM protected message or document, or contact your help desk.
Surprisingly, when I open a document protected by IRM (from a different machine), IRM is automatically configured for the user and starts working from that point. However any new domain user login into this client faces the same issue.
Can anyone help identify the required registry keys that need to be present for getting this working on the client.

To install Microsoft Deployment Agent, you must be a member of the Windows
Administrators security group on the computer where you will install it. You must also be a member of the
Release Manager role in Release Management.
From the log, the user you‘re using seems not in the local administrator group. Please make sure the corresponding users has the needed permissions to install the deployment agent. Please check this

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
