This is the message I get when I try to open iphoto.
1. this is the first time since I've used iphoto that this has happened.
2. I would like to know why.
3. I am not sure which choice to make.
4. recent changes involving photos would be deleting several photos....I used a program called Grand Perspective and began to delete photos from there
5. although I'm interested in fixing this problem, I would like to learn more about 'libraries' and the way iphoto works. Previous to owning a Mac, I used Picasa with my pc and I don't remember it using as much space on my hard drive. iphoto has a large number of duplicated photos of which I've been unable to resolve easily and it is approx. 60 G of space. I would like to have access to my images (30,000) through external hard drives but not necessarily have them all on my mac. I believe that is what Picasa does. I'm using the new Picasa for Mac but want to continue to use iphoto as well.
If I did not form this question well enough, please let me know how to clarify. I'm trying to remedy this while answering a million Why? why? Why? questions from my 4 year old!

I would like to learn more about 'libraries'
Step one is to learn about iPhoto - it is not a photo viewer like Picasa - it is a photo manager and uses an SQL database - the content and structure of this database are critical (as with any database application) to the operation of iPhoto - any changes made to either the content or structure of the database using external programs including (especially) the finder can corrupt the database and cause you to lose data

This is how you destroyed your iPhoto library and made it unusable
As to space - the iPhoto database contains at a minimum a copy of the original photo (in the default and recommended operating environment) and a small thumbnail. When any modification to the photo is made a modified version is created so there might be three versions (no duplicates) of a photo within the iPhoto library - none of them are extraneous and none of them can be removed without corrupting the iPhoto library
Once a photo is imported into iPhoto (assuming default settings which are strongly recommended) the original source photo outside of iPhoto can be archived, deleted or otherwise handles - iPhoto has no further need for it.
The iPhoto library can be located on an external hard drive so long as that hard drive is always available when iPhoto is running
In general it is not advised to run two different photo organizers against the same photos - so if you use both Picasa and iPhoto you are likely to create future problems (although Google claims it is possible - just remember that you can not successfully make any change of any sort to any photo with the iPhoto library using Picasa or any other program - if you only use Picasa to look at photos you may be ok - if you never make any mistakes
As to your immediate problem - you have destroyed you iPhoto library by deleting files from it. If you want to use iPhoto you will have to start over - find the originals folder within the iPhoto library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and create a new library - import the photos from the originals folder into iPhoto and do not go inside the iPhoto library or modify the contents of the iPhoto library in the future.

Twas quite a hassle if I am honest which was eventually resolved but I don't feel qualified to help anyone through the process as it required a trip to my local apple store and a genius bar appointment.
Personally, I would do anything like moving pictures out of folders etc. Certainly not creating a new users. i don't think that is an elegant solution
Try the following which MAY just about rescue the situation for you but if they don't work you may have to do something more drastic.
(1) Holding down Cmd & Alt at the same time, start iPhoto by clicking on the iPhoto icon. From the resulting menu choose Rebuild photo library by selecting all available options given to you and then pressing REBUILD!
If that doesn't work
(2) Fire up Utilities. Go to migration assistant. Chose 'From another Time machine back-up'. Open the 'Users' option that comes up next and from there select Pictures, then uncheck everything else like Applications etc (you don't want to do a full migration of everything) and click go.
If that doesn't work, take a deep breath and this step is rather complicated but it worked for me. First of all close iPhoto! Then go to new Finder window.
From the Finder window choose Pictures, then iPhoto library, press CMD and the letter i. It brings up a new window. Go to Sharing & permissions. From there select the padlock to unlock settings. and then select User account, then press the 'cog' icon next to +/- abd choose Apply to enclosed items.
This may take a while. Once completed, re-open iPhoto.
And that should (I stress should) cure it.

1. What disk are they talking about?
2. I can access my photos by clicking on ALL IMAGES in SEARCH FOR.
3. If I trash iphoto and re-install from my Install Disc 1, will I lose the photos?
4. If so, what can I do to save my photos and get iPhoto working?

When I try to load ANY website, Firefox always gives me this message: Your requested URL was not found. What could be causing this?

I've cleared all data on Firefox 3.6. I've even reinstalled the browser. It's the same message: Your requested URL was not found.

Try "Firefox connection settings" in [[Server not found]]
You can find the connection settings in "Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection"
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select No Proxy

If you are receiving errors in Windows when using or reinstalling iTunes, I recommend completely removing and reinstalling the software using the instructions in this article:

So starting recently (last couple of months) when I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos. There's nothing there, it's just completely blank, when in the past my whole iPhoto library would show up with thumbnails and I could just choose the pic to attach. Now I have to drag the photos I want from iPhoto onto the desktop and then I can find them there to attach to my e-mail. How can I get my iPhoto library to show back up the simple way when I want to attach photos? I've been having this problem attaching photos in hotmail or yahoo.

It should be an attachment. Your Mac just displays a preview of certain attachments (such as .pdfs) in the body of the message. A PC, for example, will see it as an attached file rather than a preview.
You can save the attachment on your Mac by Control-clicking on it and selecting Save Attachment.

Error -5093 "The analysis library was not found" in 64 bit project. But the analysis library is found in 32 bit project

I'm using the Labwindows/CVI 2010 Full Development system, in a Windows 7 professional 64 bits computer. So, The analysis library is installed (see in the attached file), and the Option Analysis from the Customize library menu is selected.
I'm using several function from analysis library (WhiteNoise, MaxMin1D, LinFit, etc). The projects in 32 bits work very well. In 64 bits project there is not linkage error, the exe is created, but there are errors like that:
Function WhiteNoise: (return value == -5093 [0xffffffffffffec1b]). The analysis library DLL was not found or could not be loaded.
the same for the other analysis library functions.
how to do to use the analysis library in 64 bit projects, it's the analysis library 64 bit compatible?

Yes, the advanced analysis librairy is 64 bits compatible. i can do the test on my computer on CVI 2013.
i think it will be great to correctly uninstall your CVI version ans all install again.

... Actually, until recently, Mr. iPhoto, you were finding your own library just fine...
This happens now every time I launch iPhoto. I have to tell it where the library is. I've never moved it ("~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/"), and this started happening recently after a DiskWarrior maintenance routine.
The problem will even happen in a working iPhoto session (after I've supplied the library directory path) if I try to import photos. I drag a JPG onto the iPhoto icon, and this dialog appear.
I've tried trashing these user prefs here:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto*
.. but it didn't fix it.
This particular machine is my Dual G4 1 Ghz, MDD, running 10.4.11 and iPhoto 2. I'm suspicious of the PRAM battery, since I've not changed it in the nearly 7 years I've owned this machine. Don't know if that's useful info or not.

Nope. Never got this fixed. I just keep re-connecting my library when it asks.
I've fixed permissions, deleted preferences. I've not replaced that PRAM battery yet, but I can't imagine how that would create this problem.
Glad I'm not the only one, though. Maybe others will show up here...

I looked everywhere on my computer. Checked file sizes of folders, etc. (I have about 6000 images stored) but suddenly I have no more access to my photos. I am sure I am not the only person to whom this may have happened. Please point me to other threads where this problem was discussed (none I looked at seems to fit my exact case.)

iPhoto can't find your Library. Someone or something have moved it. iPhoto has no ability to do so.
Try search with EasyFind http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/ for jpegs - it's important to use this as Spotlight doesn't search all your disk.
You do have a back up, right?

Can't find my iPhoto Library on Aperture

I just downloaded Aperture and couldn't wait to see my iPhoto Library in the new Aperture. But when I opened Aperture the photos shown in the Library are old photos (5,000+) that I have deleted from my iPhoto Library. In fact nothing newer than 2009 is showing. I tried to import my current Library but it wasn't even shown as an option. HELP!!! How do I get rid of the 5,000 old photos I don't want and get to my current iPhoto Library?

What are the system version and program versions (iPhoto, Aperture) you are using? If you are opening your iPhoto Library in Aperture your profile signature ( Mac OS X (10.6.3)) cannot be current?
Have you more than one iPhoto Library? It looks like you are viewing an older iPhoto lIbrary in Aperture? Or are you viewing the Trash, if you only see images that should be dleted?
Try the following:
Quit Aperture and open iPhoto on the iPhoto Library you want to view in Aperture.
Look in iPhoto's Trash. Check if there are photos in it, that you trashed accidentally. Put back anything that should not be trashed. Then empty it, if there are still 5000 photos in it.
Unhide any photos that are set to be hidden (marked by a red "x"). Aperture cannot reveal photos hidden in iPhoto.
Then use the command (from iPhoto's main menu bar): File > Open library in Aperture
Do you now see the same images in Aperture as in iPhoto? Your iPhoto events will be appear as projects.

About 'Security' and 'AccessControl' I just modify my java.policy file to allpermission. Subsequently, I signed all jar files.
For now I have 3 jar files(all have been signed ):
--example.jar : for this little program.(code include applet and application entry)
--jna.jar
--win32-x86.jar : include kernel32.dll and jnidispatch.dll for win32 and x86.
and 2 JNLP files:
--JNAApplet.jnlp the entry is JNAApplet.class (this jnlp does not work)
--JNAApp.jnlp     the entry is JNAApp.class (this jnlp works)
And for now new error message show like this:

Could not complete your request because the file was not found.

I use mac,when i update photoshop cs6 10.0.0 to 10.0.1
i try to open the photo(jpg),but the photoshop said
"Could not complete your request because the file was not found."
after that i have try other type file (png graphic,psd drawing) ,is work.
also i have try to uninstall the photoshop and install again,
it still have (...the file was not found.)problem.
does anyone know what happen to my photoshop?

in these few days i have found kind of issue in this forums or other forums
i try to reset these 3 ways :
1- Library/Preferences
2- re-locate the plug ins
3- delete the (com.adobe.plist )<---some kind of this things
it's still not work...

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo
