Your project file is not readable!!!

Okay. I'm about ready to have a nervous breakdown. I'm new to imovie, so I'm hoping there's someone who can help . . .
Basically, after working hours and hours on a project, (w/ my editing getting more and more complicated) out of nowhere it gives me a 'your project file is not readable.' I diligently save every couple of minutes, empty the trash, etc., but it still happens.
I thought it was my little ibook at home being the culprit, but after bringing it into work on a G5, dual processor it happened again!
Any help would be so appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to the iMovie Discussion.
That's a known problem. It can happen after emptying the iMovie trash in versions 2 through 4. There are other contributing factors too. It doesn't happen often, but it happens.
Go to the following forum page, then use your Web browser to find this text: "I'm receiving many requests". My message starting with that text describes how to send me information needed to (hopefully) rescue the project.

  • "your project file is not readable"HELP

"your project file is not readable" is the message I am getting in imovie4.0.1 ... I have just spent 10 hours editing this thing tonight... and numerous hours the last week. I decided to take a break half hour ago and give me and the mac a breather... so I turn the computer back on and go to open my project and get that message. What more can I say... I save alot while I am editing... every 20 min at the most. I am gonna loose it if I lose it... I have over 580 clips in this thing... the tunes were falling into place real nice toooo,,, what can i do???
This is a skateboard video ,,, thats why so many clips... other projects still open...ah man... I bought this computer just for this project... I can not afford for this to happen to me... I am shaking .,.. my nerves... help please.

After losing a whole project in an earlier version of iMovie (when there was no .mov file in the project folder), I started doing several things to prevent another nightmare. ;o)
First, I never empty the trash. I save the project frequently--especially after an edit that was difficult. I quit iMovie and duplicate the project file AND the .mov file several times per iMovie. (File>Duplicate) I type a time code after the name of the duplicates, so it's easy to find the latest one. And periodically I reboot...this may be like knocking on wood.
IF you have these backups AND you get a corrupted project file, you can open a new iMovie project, import the clips, and replace the NEW project file and .mov with the backups. The backups must have the exact name as the new files being replaced.
I've only had to use this one time, but it worked great. I lost some editing, but it was not a big deal compared to losing a whole project.
I THINK this would work even if you lost all your clips, provided you imported the original footage from the same starting points and in the same order as in the original project. If wouldn't be easy with 160 clips, but most of my iMovies are of events captured on one or two miniDV tapes and possibly a couple of Keynote presentations, which I prefer for some of the intros and titling.
Karl, if you come up with a program to repair a corrupted file, you will be a Superhero!

  • The project file could not be loaded

a new windows 8.1, VS2013 install ... I use skydrive to sync all my source files to a folder named c:\skydrive. When I try to open a .SIN file from the c:\skydrive folder I get an error in visual studio:
C:\Skydrive\c#\AutoCoder\AutoCoder.csproj : error  : The project file could not be loaded. The file cannot be accessed by the system.
      C:\Skydrive\c#\AutoCoder\AutoCoder.csproj
When I right click the .csproj file in windows explorer I do not see a security tab. Not sure if my user is authorized to the file or not.
How to open a project in VS2013 from my skydrive folder?
    thanks,

    Hi Steve,
Generally we could open the project from the skydrive folder, I often use it. As you said that it doesn’t work in your VS, I doubt that it would be related to this project.
Please delete the .suo file in your project folder, and then reopen the project file again (.csproje) again.
If possible, you could run your VS as the admin, and then open this project.
If still no help, maybe you could create a new project for it.

  • CS4 unable to place image ERROR: The file is not readable

    Hi All,
I have been experiencing big issues with Illustrator CS4 and placing images into a document.
Basically I will be working on say a packaging project and after about the 4th image being placed I will get the error message The file is not readable I select OK (the only option available)
RESULT: no file placed no where to go?
I then have to save the document, close Illustrator, re-open, open the document and then the image will usually place (not always first time though and sometimes I will have to reboot the whole system!) but then the 5th, 6th, 7th image after that I have to follow the same procedure!... The image files are fine, 300ppi, 20-30MB max, PSD, TIFF, JPG dose not matter all follow the same issue... but eventually after a lot of rebooting and loading the so called un-readable files will go into the document.
Also the image will place sometimes but the same error message will appear on attempting to embed the image!
All very annoying and massively time consuming!!!
To top it off since the above, random AI files when loading up will crash Illustrator out... again after a reboot the same file will open fine with no problems???
    My system:
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)
Processor: Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (quad core)
    RAM: 6GB
GRAPHICS: NVIDIA Quadro FX 570 (3GB) (Dual monitor)
    DVD/CDR
    PRIMARY: ATA 500MB
    SECONDARY: ATA 1Tb
Im desperate to get this sorted... other wise its back to my old system... slow but reliable!!
    Many Thanks!!

Well, I just encountered the same issue using Illustrator CS5...getting the "The File Is Not Readable" error message...first time that's happened in the 14 years of using the program. It seems the file size was too large for Illustrator (or one of my computers) to handle. So I opened the file using one of my other computers and deleted the unused layers to reduce the file size. Originally, there were 6 layers with 3 different versions of the artwork and what I ended up having to do is create 3 separate files rather than having it all in 1.
    Hope this helps!

  • I can't share my Final Cut X project : the process does not start. it seems that the project files is not found by the application. why ?

I crate a project on Final Cut pro X. A 52 mn movie, that works really good on the time line. But I can't export it on DVD or IPad or other devices. The process is engaed but without effective effect. After one hour no result. It seems that the "project" files is not physically recognise by Final Cut export routine. Is anybody had such a bad surprise ?

Tell everyone what type of video (format) you shot in the camera, what are your project settings and exactly what settings are you choosing when you use Share.

  • Upgrade to Robohelp 9: Your project file cpd is corrupt

    Hi
I have installed Robohelp 9, and is now trying to upgrade a version 6 project to version 9. When I press upgrade in Robohelp, I keep getting the error "Your project file ...cpd is corrupt and cannot be opened". I have tried to delete it and open the xpj-file again, but there is no difference. Then I found something about a file called rhvariable.apj. I copied this file from a project that I already have upgraded and which were fine. But this gave no solution either. I also read something about deleting the cpd-file and the xpj-file and then edit the hhp-file. The problem is that my corrupt projects - I have 3 at this point - have no hhp-file. So there is a difference.
Could anyone help me? I have search and search
    Best regards
    Else

In case this helps anyone I will share my experience...
I've been waiting ages for the purchase order to go through for my new license for the latest version of RoboHelp.  My Help project was in version 6.  I had on one PC a trial download of RH 8 and on my other PC a trial download of version 9.  (I work in IT hence the multiple PCs)
So, just a couple of days ago, I tried bringing in my v.6 project into v.9.  I got the cpd file corrupt error and I tried deleting it several times.  I even tried re-copying it in, etc.  Nothing worked.  I was annoyed....so just to try something I opened up my trial v.8 and loaded in my old project and it upgraded fine with no problems.  I took this upgraded project and brought it into v.9 and, lo and behold, it worked!  (Both being trial versions and just yesterday I got my v. 9 license key and registered with no issues)
I am up and running and everything looks great and I've generated and started playing around with all of the new features I am unfamiliar with...having been stuck with v.6 for so long!
    Hope this helps someone....
    thanks,
    liz

  • Help. I can't open any of my project files,"Project file version not recognized". Whats going on?

After uninstalling and reinstalling Prelude CC none of my project files will open.
I get the notice "This version of the project file is not recognized!"
I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So after 3 hours of painful chat, Adobe Finally gave me the solution. They wouldn't answer my question without trying a bunch of things that I had said I already did, so hopefully this helps some people.
Somehow, updating was disabled, or suppressed, my the administrator (that's me). Adobe kind of forgot to give the administrator a way to then reenable that for users. You'd think that would be something the administrator would control from the admin console online, but no. You set it up once on install, then everyone is just stuck with whatever version they installed at the time. But good news! There's a file that suppresses that. You Might be able to simply delete it. I'm not sure.
But if you need to fix it, here it is. All 2 minutes that it will take you. Do NOT contact Adobe. Their help system is incredibly inefficient (but then again, aren't most?):
    go here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AAMUpdaterInventory\1.0
see an adobeUpdateradminprefs.dat file? Open that in notepad (or notepad++ or equivelant if you like that better)
Change the 1 to a zero and save.
That's all. That Should have been a known item, and would take all of 10 seconds to check, but I had to uninstall and reinstall several things before we went to a folder. Because uninstalling reinstalling is easier? ha
    Now in response to Ramesh:
    1. the issue is moot because previous versions of prelude can not open future versions. That's all over the web. So just make sure you have the current version.
    2. we are now both at the current version.
    3. offline media? we hadn't figured that out. If she closes the file and opens it again it seems to go away. So that's an unknown. And it's working now, so I don't really care.

  • _____HELP!_Illustrator file won't open "Photoshop file is not readable"

    Help!
My Illustrator file won't open - it starts to, then after 1 second I get the error message: "Photoshop file is not readable"
    Any suggestions?

Right now I am also having the same problem! Eeek! If anyone has a workaround that'll be awesome. Unfortunately, this is the only post I've seen that someone else has the same problem.
Anyway, this is what I did...
I made some images in photoshop and I linked them to my illustrator file. I saved several various versions of my illustrator file... but now all 10 versions of them won't work! I can't figure it out. I tried re-saving my PSD file (that I had all the images in) and yep.. no cigar.

  • The project file is not bound to source control, but the solution contains source control binding information for it.

This may be more of a SQL Server Management Studio question, but I couldn't find a SSMS forum...
I've got a database solution that contains several projects.  They're just to keep track of changes to stored procedures, triggers, views, etc in a few databases I maintain.  There is a problem with two of the projects though.  No matter what I do, I can't seem to get them bound to source control right.  When I open the solution, I get:
The project file is not bound to source control, but the solution contains source control binding information for it.
With two options, use solution binding and remove solution binding.  If I keep the solution binding, everything works fine.  But it's really annoying to have to deal with every time I open the solution.  If I remove the solution binding, the projects are now unbound again.  If I try to fix them (using the change source control or Add Selected Projects to Source Control options under the File->source control menu), I just end up in the same situation.  I've even tried deleting the projects and re-creating them from scratch, then re-adding them to VSS.  If I open the solution files in a text editor I can see the SCC tags in every project, but these two.  Since I can't manually add the tags, and Management Studio itself only seems to want to bind them the wrong way, I'm getting really frustrated.
Can anyone point me toward a way to bind these so they work like the rest?

However, that does not appear to be the ONLY cause of the problem.  I am a single user and only using TFS2010 and SSMS2008R2.  My issue is that I wanted a solution file for each project so that they could managed independently, and a super-solution
file that contained all projects, so that I could perform system-wide searches and cross-checks.
    I solved the problem by:
    1. Choosing the option to use solution binding, then
    2. Adding another project to the solution.  This forced the re-write of the solution file.
    3. Adding another script to the project.  This forced the re-write of the project file.
    4. Checking in all changes.
    5. Deleting the new script and the extra project,
    6 Checking in all changes.
This appears to have solved the problem.

  • I updated to Mavericks and realized my FCP project files are not there? Help!

Someone please help. I had built a new video project the other day and everythying worked fine. However I needed to edit an older job and and went to my library and when I click on the Event, my source files are there but no my project files. On the job I just did recently those projects files are there. I went to my folders where my FCP event and project files are and tried to open one of the "backup" files and that didn't work.

I'm assuming you've updated your projects and events. If you haven't, you should.
If the are updated, you should have an event named Updated Projects. Look in there.
You should access your projects through the app, not the Finder. There is no no longer any such thing as fcpproject files in the new library model.

  • Help: FCE 2.0.3 project files will not open in FCE 4.0

I have been using FCE 2.0.3 on a PowerBook G4 and PowerPC G5 to annotate a number of movie files with markers. I recently bought a new MacBook Pro with Intel and the new FCE 4.0. The new FCE launches when I double click on a FCE 2.0.3 project file, but then I get the following message:
This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut.
I really NEED to be able to open these older project files with all of the markers and sequences intact. Can anyone help???

    Hello Tom,
Thank you so much for your help. I spent about 2 hours on the phone with a very dedicated
Video Tech support person from Apple, and, unfortunately, we did not manage to solve the
problem. He also had me email a project file to him, which he was able to open. He then saved it as a FCE 4.0 project file and emailed it back to me. However, I was still unable to open it (I got the same message as with the original).
Here's what I think the problem may be: I moved all my FCE 2.0 project files and media
from my PowerBook G4 to my new MacBook Pro using Apple's Migration Assistant BEFORE I
installed FCE 4.0 on my new MacBook Pro (no version of FCE was installed on it
beforehand). So, I think that the problem may have something to do with the fact that the
Final Cut Express Documents folder existed already on my laptop when I installed the
    program.
The reason that I think this is that this morning I installed FCE 4.0 on my Mac Mini (with Intel and running Leopard OS 10.5.1) BEFORE I transferred one of the FCE 2.0 project files and associated media to it. I was ABLE to open the project file -- I received the message "The file format of this project is from an earlier version. Would you like to update this project file?" I went ahead and updated the file, and, then I was able to open it without any problem.
So, my current plan is to delete FCE 4.0 from my MacBook Pro as well as the Final Cut
Express Documents folder that contains all of my FCE 2.0 project files. Then I will
reinstall FCE 4.0 and, after that, I will copy the FCE 2.0 project files to the Final Cut
Express Documents folder that is created.
I will let you know if this is successful.
Thank you (and Peter) for your help!

  • Prel 13 saved project files will not open, or Prel stops working.

Sandgrass-Saved files of Prel 13 projects will not open in Prel 13.  Is there any way to reclaim/alter these files to where they will open? Could there be a missing codec?
            My computer—Hpe 580t, Win 7 Professional 64-bit OS with second internal 1 TB hard drive;
               Intel R Core, TM i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07 GHz,      RAM 9.00GB
All of my clips and stills were taken on my Nikon CoolPix P500.  They will import just fine from PSE organizer or from Prel 13 organizer and I can edit just fine. The trouble seems to be when I attempt to open the saved project files for further editing or adding  movie theme and scene markers for a 54-minute movie.
I have tried opening from within Prel 13 and from the stored files on my Data Drive E:.  Prel opens the project and tries to load; then an error msg appears:  “Premiere Elements has stopped working.  Windows will close the program and let you know if a solution is found”, or an error message says "Cannot open:---this file is not compatible with Pre"l.  Only one copy of several edited and rendered copies of the project will open, and I am very afraid to touch it until someone can maybe suggest a solution.  I tried saving copies of the one working file, but none of them will open. Thank you for your assistance.      Sandgrass

    LionkillerArt
Did you say that you were working on Windows or Mac? For now, assuming Windows,
    1. Go to the Adobe Folder in Documents (should be there unless you changed the default).
    2. Locate the project.prel file of interest in Adobe Folder/Documents Folder/Premiere Elements Folder/11.0 Folder. Inside the 11.0 Folder, among some folders and other files, are the project.prel files if you did not do any special organization. Right click the project.prel of interest and select Open With, followed by Premiere Elements 10. Does the project now open?
Do you have any versions of Premiere Elements on your computer except this Premiere Elements 10?
Have you deleted or moved any of the source media that went into your project after you saved/closed any of these projects? Where are your source media stored? If on an external hard drive, is the drive letter of that drive changing on its own?
What happens if you rename one of the problem project.prel files in the Adobe Folder and then try to open it from there?
    Just some thoughts for now.
We will be watching for further developments.
    Thanks.

  • Encore CS5 project file will not open - any suggestions?

I have a recently created (and backed-up) project that I've been able to reopen and modify for my client a few times over the past couple of months but now refuses to open (even the backup copy). I get the following error upon opening the project:
"Cannot open project; The folder for this project cannot be found."
Nothing has moved from it's original location - everything still in the same folder as where I created it and have been working on it.
Does anybody know a workaround/solution for fixing this?
Many thanks - I really don't want to have to start all over on this project - nor will I trust Encore ever again with an important client project if this is typical behavior!!
    Jeff Foster
    PixelPainter.com

Just opened the old project I was going to work on a bit.  Two things relevant here:
First, I had one of the issues I raised above.  Source assets were no longer available, and Encore flags this and gives me a chance to locate them - just as we would like.  I expected this, and can proceed without them - except I discovered that in two instances, the source file was transcoded before import, and Encore does not create a new version of this.
Second, I can create the error you got (project can't be opened; folder not found) by copying the whole directory (containing the .ncor file and folders), then changing the name of the ncor file without changing the encore project folder (that is at the same level as the project file).  So if the project file is named "sample.ncor" encore has created a folder called "sample" (and inside the folder is "cache" and "sources" etc).  Renaming sample.ncor to sample1.ncor with a project folder with it still named sample results in the error.  Chaning that folder name to sample1 results in no error.
I'm not saying this is the only way this error occurs, but look at your .ncor file - what is the name?  What is the name of the project folder?

  • Can't open fcp project file - fcp not responding

starts to open project but gets to 23% and freezes fcp...project is being stored on a lacie 250gig protable hd with firewire. never had this issue after tons of work. tried going to a autosave version but tried several and they freeze up fcp
any ideas short of moving all the media to another drive and starting a new project (I was just about to start cutting this project today).

    Welcome to the forum!
Post the version of FCP you're running.
Try opening a new project file, then importing the captured clips into it... might fix this... If you trash your preferences for FCP found in the user/library/preferences/FCP User data folder, you can just click on the application and it won't try to open the last project file.
Can you open earlier project files OK?
