Youtube compression for iphones

sequence was 6 min long. 1080p 23.98 prores. youtube preferred h.264 so i compressed using that codec. reduced size to 1280x720p maintaining frame rate. data rate was set to 5000kbs (max recommended by youtube for 720p video). key frames set to automatic w/ frame reordering checked. took a long time to transcode and ultimately got a reasonable sized file of 350 mb. uploaded fine to youtube and looks great on computers however have got variable reports about the quality on iphones (i realize diff phones & service) ranging from digital distortion w/ digital squares to noisy & blurry. i've also got reports from folks who say it's looks great. just wondering if there's anything i can do differenty to make everyone happy. if it matters i'm on compressor 3. thanks.

Youtube needs the "fast start" enabled.
Click Options and make the following changes to Video settings:
Compression Type: H.264
Frame Rate: 30 is preferred. 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97 are also acceptable.
Data Rate: Automatic
Key Frames: Automatic
Frame Reordering: Unchecked
Make the following changes to Audio or Sound settings:
Format: AAC
Click Show advanced settings and choose Constant Bit Rate as encoding strategy.
Select Size and choose the original size of the video.
The section Prepare for Internet Streaming must be set to Fast Start.
Make sure you turn off frame reoroding!

  • Tweaking compression for YouTube

I am trying to make the best possible files for uploading to YouTube. I am working with HDV Quicktimes exported from FCP and compressing using the AIC codec and a frame size of 640x360, as YouTube requires for 16:9. The longest file is 10:30 and comes in at 1.14 gig, just over the YouTube limit. I can't find a way to change the codec to reduce the file size. Is there any way to adjust quality with this codec?
Changing the frame size from 1440x1080 to 640x360 would have largely done the trick, I would have thought. But it doesn't seem to make much difference. In fact, I exported 2 versions out of FCP, one at the original frame size and one at 640x360 and both files are the same size! Can't for the life of me figure out why that is.
If anyone has any tips about compressing for YouTube channels, please let me know. Ideally we would upload files just under a gig so that YouTube's compression doesn't completely kill the quality.
    Thanks.

I followed everything kenstone said. Still having problems. Here's the new link...

The video is playing choppily, and now I'm even losing synch. What's going on?

  • Why iOS 6 have no YouTube for iPhone

    Es

Google has made a YouTube app for the iPhone which has the same functionality as the former YouTube iOS app.  You can find it in the app store.

  • When will you make an IPad YouTube app. There is one for iPhone and when you use it for the iPad the quality is bad since you have to zoom in. Please fix

If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • FAQ: How do I export a movie for YouTube, Vimeo, iPad, iPhone, or Apple TV?

When you export your movie, choose H.264 as the format and then choose the appropriate YouTube, Vimeo, iPad, iPhone, or Apple TV encoding preset from the Preset menu.
See this video for instructions for using the new and improved encoding presets in Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5:
    Adobe Media Encoder Improvements

I figured out one way to do it.
    I don't know if it's the easiest.
    1. drag the movie from iPhoto into the iTunes movie folder.
    2. in iMovie- go to "file- New Event". Name it.
    3. go to "file- New Project". Name it.
    4. click the iTunes button on right"Show or Hide Music and Sound Effects browser"
5.Scroll down until you see the iTunes icon and expand the triangle if not already expanded to reveal the "Movies"    icon. Click on it.
    6. Find the movie in the list below and drag it to the new event.
    7. edit and/or drag it to the Project window.
Go to "Share- YouTube..." follow the prompts.
It will process the movie and let you post it to YouTube, and give you the option to share it.

  • Bit Rate settings for compressing to iPhone

    Hello-
I have Compressor 3.05 and I'd like to use a bit-rate setting that is not available in the Apple-provided iPhone presets. I'm looking for something around 150. Is there a way to create a custom preset for iPhone compatible video? I can't seem to figure this out.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Yes there is!
*Step 1:* Create a preset will all the other settings how you want them. In my case I started with File Format: H.264 for Apple Devices, Device: iPhone (Local/Wifi) Drag the data rate down as low as it will go (700Kbps). Save it as a new custom setting.
*Step 2:* Those are stored in User>Library>Application Support>Compressor open the preset you just created (it will have the same name) in a text editor, I used TextWrangler. Find the second <data-rate> (the first one is for audio) the number in there should be 87500. Lower that number to the desired amount.
*Step 3:* Save the file. Go back into Compressor and then apply it to your source video.
    That should do it!

  • Apple tv youtube ap for macbook.

is there a youtube ap available for macbook. I want the same function as you have with the ipad, or iphone.
It would be much easier to find youtube stuff by typing on the computer then using the single letter function on apple tv.

Thanks for your answer. I changed to mac a year ago and everything just works!
We have iphones, Ipod and Mac computers to everyone in the family 5 people.
But when I added atv 2 days ago I expected it to "just work" like everything else!
I bought atv after visiting a friend who had Ipad conected to atv and he shared youtube with the youtube AP that is in his Ipad.
My point is excactly what your answer states! " there is no aplication for youtube for the computer" Why?
If there is a AP for Ipad there should be one also for the computer.
A new AP with youtube also for the computer would be appreciated!

  • HT201335 Any technical reason for iPhone 4 not to have mirrorring feature?

Any technical reason for iPhone 4 not to have mirrorring feature? It does support YouTube , photo slide show.

Airplay mirroring requires an h.264 encoder in hardware. iPhone before the 4s and macs before mid 2011 don't have this hardware, so it won't work.

  • Efficient compression of iPhone 6  videos

Photos for Mac + iCloud Photos has significantly improved my photography workflow: It is now much easier to keep all of my family photos and videos organized (side bar: favorite smart album is album = none). With 140GB in my photo library already though (on the 200GB plan), I try to save space where I can. Compressing my iPhone 6+ videos is one area that I hope to improve upon. I usually record in 30fps on the phone and use Compressor's Apple Device (Best Quality) export/transcode option to convert the videos. The process is slightly combersome though: (1) export the video from Photos for Mac; (2) compress the video with Compressor; (3) add it back to Photos for Mac; and (4) finally correct the EXIF date/time manually. Does anyone have a more efficient workflow to accomplish this objective (possibly using Automator)? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, ~Jim.

    Russ,
I store all of my videos in iCloud and then sync across my various Apple devices. If / when I edit a specific event (e.g. multiple video segments of my son's birthday party), I use either iMovie on an iOS device or iMovie on my desktop (haven't purchased FCP yet). Once the movie is published and stored in iCloud, I go back and delete the various video segments that were used to create the final movie. Does that make sense?
In a nutshell, everything is stored in iCloud and synced across my iOS devices and Photos for Mac. I'm sure, eventually I'll run out of online space and be forced to store various videos offline (I'll likely continue using Photos for Mac and simply keep the videos as reference files outside the library)...the goal is to manage the size of the videos efficiently in order to keep all of my photos and videos in iCloud for as long as possible. I manage the size of the videos my using Apple's Compressor. I just wish there was a nose streamlined method of exporting the video from Photos to Mac to Compressor and then back again.

  • Cannot Import Video made with iMovie for iPhone/iPod Touch

I edited a video on my iPod touch using Apple's iMovie. The resulting .MOV file that iMovie creates will not import into iPhoto '11. While iMovie recognises the file just fine, iPhoto believes it is an unsupported file type. It's a .MOV for goodness sakes created with Apple's own hardware and program! Very strange. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Hey there. In answer to your question, all other clips that appear in my camera roll are easily seen by iPhoto. It is only those movies that I have created with iMovie for iPhone that iPhoto does not recognize. It's really strange, considering the fact that it's just a .MOV file. As a result, I've had to download a program called 'DiskAid' that allows me to transfer the .MOV file directly to my computer from the iPod Touch.
In answer to your question regarding whether or not iMovie for iPhone was worth downloading, I would have to say yes (assuming of course the import-to-iPhoto problem gets fixed). It's not a perfect program. My biggest complaint is that you have to import clips ONE at a time. There's no 'import all' option. This is really time consuming as you have to cycle through all the videos on your iPod or iPhone and manually tap each one and repeat. My dad likes to take a lot of 1-minute videos that then have to get spliced together and that can be really tedious with how this iMovie is currently set up. However, if you regularly think to add your clips to an existing project as you go along, things should be fine. It could do with a few more features and faster rendering times, but on the whole, it's a decent program. I have a feeling, though, that it was designed more for the YouTube generation who want to upload a five-minute video instead of people like my father and I who like to edit an hour or so and then eventually burn to a DVD. iMovie for the Mac still CERTAINLY has it's place.

  • Ideal iMovie export settings for iPhone?

What is the proper setting for iMovie exports to the iPhone?
Obviously 480x320 is the desired target resolution, but I tried using "Quicktime" and encoding in h.264, but the video is not viewable on the iPhone. Alternatively, in selecting MPEG4, oddly h.264 was greyed out as not an option.
Anyone? I know the "iPod" settings work, but that is not the ideal iPhone screen resolution.
    blakespot

I had the same problem getting iMovies over to my AppleTV and found a solution that works for iPhone too.
In iMovie click: Share>Share...>Quicktime (at top of box)>Expert Settings (under Compress Movie For)>Share (button at bottom of box)>Movie to iPhone (on Export: pick list). Click Save at the bottom of the dialog and you're off!
I used this to convert several of the movies I had on my AppleTV and put them on my iPhone.

  • I'm getting "an error occurred loading this content" when trying to airplay youtube from my iPhone 5.  My brother is using his iPhone 4s with no problem.  Is there something wrong with my settings?

I'm trying to airplay youtube from my iPhone 5 but I'm getting the error message.  I can airplay music, pictures, and other video, but no streaming.  My brother is using my appletv and wi-fi with his iphone 4s with no problems.  Any suggestions?

I started having this problem a week or so ago, after having used the Apple TV for a couple of months with only some minor problems.  Yesterday, however, I started getting this problem again and today I could not get to Airplay from my Ipad - just kept getting the "error occurred" message on my tv screen.  I tried the various fixes I could find on Google - at least the ones I could understand - but with no luck.  Then I decided to bite the bullet and pay for Apple support, even tho the problem is with the device and not due to my ignorance.  So I talked with a support person who said I would have to pay $19.95 for 30 days of support and was glad to take my credit card information.  This person had never heard of the problem, and ending up bumping me up to an Apple TV specialist, after spending 20 minutes or so on hold, and explaining the problem, etc.  I finally got to the specialist who had heard of this problem and said that she was crediting me for the $19.95, since the problem is due to a KNOWN HARDWARE ERROR.  In fact, she said that Apple would give me a new, replacement unit if I would go to the nearest Apple store.  This even tho I bought the unit used - it is still covered.  Now I have to make a 100 mile round trip to the Apple store, since Apple won't send the new one out in the mail, even if I return mine first.  And Apple won't pay for my gas.  So that's the mostly good and some bad news.  I hope that the new unit won't have this problem, but I think the bigger issue is that since Apple knew about the problem that affects certain serial numbers, why don't they post that information on their support sites or just make it findable by a Google search.  Whenever I have had a problem with Windows, I have always been able to find a Microsoft article or fix addressing it by doing a Google search, but Apple, always desiring to be arcane and opaque, isn't interested in this approach.  In fact, why not just put together a "known problems" site for Apple products so that users can find this kind of information easily, without having to put out $19.95 for technical support that isn't needed, and wasting their own time (and money, as in my case, for gas).  The bottom line is that all of the people with this problem who posted (and there are many) were apparently ignorant that Apple KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WILL REPLACE THE BAD UNITS.  This is because, I am sure, they don't want to shell out the $19.95.  Anyway, hope this helps someone.  I doubt if Apple will listen to the suggestion.   Good luck..

  • Creating video aps for Iphone downloads?

I didn't want to cross post the same post. I made the original one in the Compressor forum since my question dealt with video compression first.
    Here's the thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2582515&stqc=true
Can you create video files for Iphone Aps using programs like Final Cut or Imovie, or do you have to use separate programs like FLASH or Shockwave?

I bought Compressor, but took further advice on customising presets and codecs that I found online. The built in Apple H.264 codec doesn't produce as good a result as the freely available X.264 codec. You need the 1.2.27 version available from here:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24173/x264encoder
You place the x264Encoder.component in Macintosh HD/Library/QuickTime/. Be very careful not to put it in QuickLook folder by mistake - bad apparently.
Follow the advice in this excellent article to set up the preset for x.264
    http://www.larryjordan.biz/compressor-x264-improve-video/
Having done all this, I set up a preset in both codecs that matched as completely as possible, ran them both on the same video source and compared the results. The x.264 codec is superior. It gives much cleaner results than the Apple one at the same file size.

  • Hyperlinks with Keynote for iPhone/iPod Touch

Hello, everyone. I bought Keynote hoping to use it to make classroom presentations with my iPod Touch, Apple's VGA adapter cord, and a projector. Although Keynote presentations show up through the projector through the VGA cord, it is not possible in Keynote's full-screen mode to activate any of the presentation's hyperlinks. On the iPod Touch alone (w/o VGA cord), a double-tap on a hyperlink opens it up in Safari. But this is of little use because A) without VGA adapter, no public presentation at all, and B) Safari on iOS is not (yet) compatible with the VGA adapter anyway.
Does anyone know of a way around this problem? Or how to lobby Apple to modify Keynote to allow for easy hyperlink triggers within a presentation, and to modify Safari to be compatible with the VGA adapter (or allowing the user to set an adapter-friendly browser as the default one for hyperlinks in Keynote)?
    Thanks.
