Youtube freezes my computer

After having troubles similar to the ones being described in the AMD bar and grill, I changed my video driver xf86-video-ati. But it seems to be allergic to youtube videos. All I have to do is have an embedded video in my browser window - not playing - and the video goes grey like the screensaver is going to come on. The keyboard and mouse then become unresponsive.
I removed gnome-screensaver. Didn't help.
grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
returned no errors.

@89c51: Cool! I removed the plugin and videos do work, and it doesn't black the screen. Thanks.
Seems to be a lot of videos that won't play without the plugin, though. What are those workarounds?
You either add embed or tv# in the url
ie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7fQ9DxJNCY
becomes:
http://www.youtube.com/embed/Q7fQ9DxJNCY
or
http://www.youtube.com/tv#/watch?v=Q7fQ9DxJNCY
Its abit of work but you can blame the skinflints of Youtube for this. This happens with monetized videos.
Also some videos haven't been converted to webm so they might not work at all. I am not sure what happens with YouTube if you have a browser that can play .mp4. AFAIK firefox will use gstreamer by default in a next version.
This will make sites like vimeo work.

Just done a replacement of the pata DVD drive (its new and is working ok),  and a fresh clean  install of Snow Leopard with all updates, iMac 5.1 behaves strange, sometimes I start Google Chrome and look at youtube videos the computer freezes and shuts down immediately,
I believe its  related to overheating ?

The hard disk has been previously checked with state of the art techniques that have confirmed that the hard disk drive is in perfect condition.

1.5-3 minute boot up as opposed to 15-20 seconds
    And
why it takes a long time to load a lot of things.
    I have restored this
    from a time machine partition.
TimeMachine is only a backup and restore, it won't fix issues in software and according to your information, doesn't even optimize the restore for best performance on boot hard drives.
What you need to do to regain your speed is to understand how your machine works
    Why is my computer slow?
Fix any and all issues in software following this list of fixes
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then follow this defrag method I've outlined
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
    Most commonly used backup methods
There shouldn't be need to reinstall OS X fresh unless your having file structure issues which if they are should appear when in the Steps, which then a zero erase and install will cure as well as any bad sector issues, the defrag step wouldn't be necessarry on a freshly installed system obviously as the files are written all together, not in portions all over the drive.
    Hope this assists.

  • Flash Not Working; freezes my computer instantly

Like several others it appears, I am having trouble with Flash. I just updated to the latest version today, and ever since my computer freezes every time on any website that uses Flash content. I go back and forth between Chrome and IE, and the same thing happens on both browsers: I visit a webpage that requires Flash, my computer freezes, I have to use Task Manager to close the browsers (on Chrome, a box usually pops up saying something like "The following plugin is unresponsive, would you like to end it?").
This is quite a problem for me, as I need Flash for work.
I have tried reading through the various solutions for the problem, but I am not very tech savvy and it seems a bit overwhelming. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Flash version:  10.1.102.64
    OS: Windows 7
    Flash files: Flash10l.ocx
    FlashInstall
    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll
    FlashUtil10I_ActiveX
    install
I really wish Adobe would release a new version of Flash that works properly very soon.
EDIT: Just tried to watch a video on YouTube - froze my computer instantly.

Hi, I would think if you had that fast of a change for the better, then that setting was probably the problem. Glad it's working correctly.  Yes, just watch it for a few days and if there is another problem, by all means just post back here on your same thread. No need to start a new one. Keep in mind tho that you may have a problem on a particular site. I have a few sites that for some reason do not agree with my system. Sears, Home Depot are two so I just avoid them:-)
Speaking of Christmas, I think we all are busy. I think I have more lists than Santa:-) Problem is, I keep adding to do more things than I can cross off. My ideal would be to have all of my shopping done before 12/1, then bake, visit and "window shop", attend town festivities, and so on, LOL
    Hey, thanks for the star!!

  • Adobe Reader keeps on crashing and freezing my computer

I have Adobe reader 9.4, the latest version, on my computer but even after numerous reinstalls the software continues to cause problems by freezing my computer. I've thought about other problems like viruses or bugs that could be and explanation but I have run scans on my computer which have come up with nothing. My computer does not have that much software running on it and I have checked for issues with those programs but have come up with nothing and still believe Adobe Reader Is the cause.Any advice? Thank You!

Uninstall Reader 9.4 and try the latest Adobe Reader X (10.0).
If you still have problems, please state your operating system and version.

  • Youtube freezes or hangs firefox but works great in Internet Explorer

Every time pull up youtube in Firefox it immediately freezes or hangs the entire browser. the only thing I can do is close down Firefox via the task manager. This happens every single time. It used to work fine. I've even disable accelerate video. Nothing seems to work. The only time it kind of works is when I uninstall and reinstall firefox and/or flash player. Then the very first time I pull up youtube it will work great but when I close down the browser then reopen it and go to youtube, I have the same exact problem as before.
Firefox will pull up youtube with no problem when I uninstall the flashplayer (of course can't see videos then) but once it's installed youtube freezes.
Also Internet Explorer pulls up youtube videos great, just like Firefox used to do. Don't know what's wrong or what's happened but youtube immediately freezes or hangs Firefox when flashplayer is installed in firefox

Hey guys I think we've got a fix for this one. As most often the case the glitch is not with FF but with some plugin or incompatible piece of SW.
Troubleshoot: Uninstall FF, uninstall flashplayer, uninstall all brower toolbars add ons etc. (use Adobe Flash uninstaller if necessary (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html#main_Download_the_Adobe_Flash_Player_uninstaller)
Then reinstall most recent version of FF and then most recent of Flashplayer.
DO NOT add, enable, attach anything else at all. Just Bare FF and Only most recent flash player.
If you had Zone Alarm toolbar add on earlier and have uninstalled and not reinstalled it, FF is likely to pullup youtube videos with no problem.
Zone Alarm toolbar is incompatible with FF when flashplayer installed and pulling up a youtube page.
It's likely other toolbars may also be incompatible so just install the naked browser and then the Flashplayer. If it works you can begin reinstalling addons etc one by one.

  • What are .frameworks, and why are they freezing my computer?? Help!

It seems as though every time I open an audio program (Garage Band mainly), a folder entitled CoreMIDIserver.framework pops up on my dock, bounces for a bit, and then proceeds to freeze my computer. I have to force quit it every time. Frameworks are located in System-Library-Frameworks. I looked them up online and it wasn't very helpful.
What can I do to fix this? Why does it keep popping up? Can I delete it, or would that potentially cause more problems?
I really really REALLY need to use pro audio and the fact that it's not working is killing me. Any help is much appreciated!
    Tim G.

I had a couple of problems with other frameworks.
I used Pacifist to "Update Prebinding" for entire system.
It cleared up my framework console errors among other things.

  • DVD Player freezing my computer

I have one DVD that will not play in DVD Player. It starts playing and then freezes on the legal notice. And it doesn't just freeze the application, it freezes the whole computer, and my computer screen starts flashing to black for split seconds at regular intervals. All I can do is a hard shut down with the power button. There's nothing out of the ordinary with the disc that I can tell. It's brand new without any scratches. DVD Player plays other DVDs just fine.
    Things I've tried:
Playing the DVD using VLC: No problem at all. Plays just fine.
Playing the DVD in DVD Player in a different user account: Still freezes the computer.
Playing the DVD on my family's PowerPC iMac G5: Plays in DVD Player without a hitch.
Playing the DVD on my brother's Intel MacBook Pro exactly like mine: Plays in DVD Player just fine.
Deleting DVD Player and CDInfo preferences & restarting: Still freezes my computer in DVD Player.
Now I'm out of ideas. Anyone have a clue as to what might be wrong?
    Thanks!

One more thing I've tried: uninstalling and reinstalling DVD Player and repairing permissions. It didn't work. The DVD is still freezing my computer in DVD Player. Any ideas anyone?

  • ITunes CONSTANTLY freezing the computer

For about a week now iTunes just won't stop freezing my computer. Anything I do (listen to a song, download a song or update my iPhone/iPod), it will freeze. The computer starts making noises and eventually i have to shut off the computer and restart because it stops responding.
I've looked through all of the support procedures for things that are related to this and right now I have an empty iTunes library, and just when I thought it was fixed, I go to copy my information back into iTunes and it freezes again.
Please help! My iPhone has all my information on it, and I can no longer put any new things on it because of this.

  • Restoring iPhone from backup freezes my computer

I need to restore my iPhone from a previous backup (I think it's corrupt). When I plug it into my PC, it works normally. Everything syncs correctly to iTunes and works as expected. When I go to restore from a previous backup, it looks like it'll work fine, but midway my PC will freeze every time, forcing me to shut it down completely. The iPhone does restore part of the way, but acts as new when it comes to alarms, notes, passwords, home screen, contact ring tones, etc.
This has happened to EVERY iPhone I've ever used (3). I've reinstalled iTunes several times, updated drivers, updated USB drivers, ran iTunes in "safe mode" ... I've tried everything I can think of and research. Why will it freeze my computer every time with every iPhone???
The version of iPhone I'm currently using is 4S (but I've also tried with 3G and 4), firmware is up to date, iTunes is 10.6.3.25.
My computer is a PC that uses Windows 7.
If you have any other advice, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks

Obviously, the problem is with your PC.  Try creating a new user account and see if you have the same problem. If you don't, then the problem is in your user profile. If you do, you're going to have to dig deeper. Try a Windows forum or one dedicated to your specific make/model PC.
