Youtube "High Quality" Setting

Youtube has the High Quality option for some clips on youtube that are 640x480.
Is there anyway for appletv to select this option if not how do I let the devs know to implement this RIGHT AWAY.

It was my understanding that AppleTV defaulted to the high quality option, if not avaiable then it shows the crappier version.
That's my understanding as well. I've actually been pleasantly surprised with the quality of some of the YT vids on my aTV/plasma.
Here's a little tip for the YouTubers out there......
(This tip is applicable on YT's website, not through aTV.)
On most any video on YT where a "High Quality" tag is not offered, simply take the url for that vid and add "&fmt=18". Don't enter the quotations.
Here's a good example......
One of those Mac/PC adds in Standard def........
http://youtube.com/watch?v=KNnX6XRQBec
(Notice how there's not an option for "High Quality" on that vid.
Same vid but with HQ code........
http://youtube.com/watch?v=KNnX6XRQBec&fmt=18
(Notice how now there's an option for "Standard Quality".)
If you're really a YT fan, this might be useful to you.
Enjoy.

  • HELP!! RT Menu No High Quality Setting?

Is this a limitation of my machine.
I Have a high quality option on my powerbook G4 1.5GHz, but none is shown on my dual 500GHz G4. Seems like they should be about the same. Am I missing a setting?

If your original is HD material export to QuickTime Movie.
There is no setting because AIC uses a fixed data rate.

  • No High Quality Setting for HDV 1080i on QT Export?

    hello. a quick question.
when exporting a footage from fce as a quicktime movie in hdv 1080i format, why is it that there is no section for quality settings? because it automatically puts "medium" next to the quality button, whereas i'd naturally would like to see it saying "high"

If your original is HD material export to QuickTime Movie.

  • Can you change the Bitrate when you use the "Compressor" High Quality...?

I am having problems with the amount of video in DVD SP and I think I need to lower the bitrate when I compress out of FCP. Can you change the Bitrate when you use the "Compressor" High Quality setting?
    Thanks,

Yes. Duplicate the preset, then customize it all you want.

  • How to always playback DV as "high quality"

Is there an Applescript or a preference setting to always use the High Quality setting for DV playback? Apple introduced this feature back with 400MHz was considered fast (and High Quality was a real strain on the CPU). But any modern Mac >1GHz can playback High Quality mode DV without any problem.
Right now, Quicktime Player requires that I turn on High Quality after digging through settings... for each movie!

There is a "Use High Quality" check box in the Player's General preferences.
I've never been able to view any difference in either setting.
Since checking the box in the Movie Properties window must be done after export remember to do a save as to preserve fast start features in Web based files.
But nearly file I open already has this box checked. This implies that the feature can be overruled by the Player preferences or removing the check mark in Movie Properties.

  • Grayscale; black ink only or High Quality

I have the HP Photosmart C4600 series, and I was curious about how to make my ink last the longest. I am just printing assignments, nothing that needs to be super nice looking. I selected print in grayscale but I wasn't sure which would be best for me, the high quality or black ink only.
    Thank you for your help,
    Crystal

The "high quality" setting will use the color cartridge for better graphics quality, the "black only" setting will use the black cartrdige only.
For best economy use "black only" and print in draft or econofast mode.

  • Quicktime Screen Recording - Higher quality missing

Everywhere I've read that Quicktime screen recording has a medium and a higher quality setting, but when I try to do a screen recording, it doesn't give me any quality options. It just has options for the microphone. See the attached photo.
How can I get it to give me an option for high quality screen recording? The default seems to be lower quality, which I can't use. Thanks in advance for any help!!

I have the same question, and have looked at the answers here. I am not trying to answer your question, just add to it.
I have used snapz pro x and find that I like that way quicktime displays whats on your screen with the same amount of lag that will be in the finished video, while snapz does not. surely there is a way, deep in preferences or maybe even in terminal, that will enable me to take higher quality images in my screen recordings. I find the audio is fine but the image is what I have a problem with. I dont have the 100+ dollars to spend on other screen recording software, and would really appreciate some help.
    thanks,

  • Can I set the YouTube app to default to High Quality?

I've looked through the settings several times, no luck.  Every time I go to watch a YouTube video it defaults to Normal Quality, I want it to default to High Quality.  Can this be done?

Try pressing the "HQ" button in the lower right hand corner of the video. You can also tap the menu button, hit more, and select "Watch in high quality."

  • High Quality Wide Screen for YouTube - PLEASE HELP!

I am using a Panasonic PV-GS400 camera in wide-screen mode (this is another topic, but the camera still outputs 720 x 480 video, my understanding is that it is called "anamorphic wide screen"). I had figured out some settings to get my videos to appear in "High Quality" mode, wide screen (16:9) in YouTube, but the last couple of times I have tried these settings, they didn't work. Here's what I used:
    - Windows Media 856 x 480 frame size
    - Frame rate 29.97kbps
    - Pixel aspect ratio - square (1.0)
    - 2 encoding passes
I got the 856 x 480 ratio from another website. I don't really understand why the pixel aspect ratio needs to be square, but when I tried 16:9 aspect ratio, the video is letterboxed. I also don't understand the two different project modes for PE7 (when creating a new project you can choose the format 4:3 or 16:9). Maybe someone can explain how the widescreen project setting works. Perhaps it is something similar to how my camera does widescreen but the videos are still 720 x 480.
At any rate, if someone has settings that will reliably produce wide screen videos that appear in YouTube's "high quality" mode, I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

As we often say on this forum, the biggest challenge with working with YouTube is that, as soon as someone figures it out, YouTube changes the rules again.

  • How can I upload my FCP project in high quality on youtube?

Ok so I finished a 4 minute project on Final Cut Pro and it's perfect. But when I bring it out of FCP the quality fails completely. The video is blurry. Even the music sounds terrible. This happens when I export through share masterfile even though it's 4 GB
I'm trying to put it on youtube. What's the best way of doing it?

Don't share directly to YouTube. YouTube has bandwidth limit requirements and I'm pretty sure FCPX is trying to upload its usual high quality H.264 video. If you upload a video to YT at a higher quality than they allow, they will re-encode the video for you to fit their requirements. Their encoders are not as good as the ones you have available on your mac... and... they don't care.  The only exception is for creators with enterprise quality internet connections, in which case, youtube will take what FCPX feeds it.
Use Compressor, or Quicktime 7 Pro to transcode your "master" export out of FCPX (I'll usually just use ProRes 422 LT).
You need to encode the video with H.264. (Using QT7Pro:) if the video is 1080, then you need to set the Data Rate to 8 Mbps (Restrict to 8000 Kbps); Keyframes Automatic; Frame Reordering off; Optimized for Streaming; Best Quality (Multi-pass Encoding).  Audio: format AAC; Rate 48kHz; (I use) Variable Bit Rate encoding with a sampling rate of 192kbps (typically - anything from 128 to 384). The last step you have to set up: Prepare for Internet Streaming: Fast Start.  As a matter of habit (since this step seemed to make a difference a couple of years ago) I'll go into the Size options and check the Preserve Aspect Ratio by using: option and select Letterbox from the options. [I prefer using QT7Pro because there are less things to screw up. I've never had *satisfactory* success with Compressor — I'm always getting into things that complicate the procedure.]
Anyway, if you get the numbers under the limit, the upload to youtube is faster, it's "ready" right away (almost as soon as it's uploaded) and you'll get at least what you expect to get (what you see before uploading.) Compressing some types of video (usually high contrast/high action) down to 8Mbps is going to cause problems you'll just have to live with.
YouTube has an encoding requirements guide here:
    https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en
but it's for PC people... you do not need the .mp4 container, .mov is just fine (been using it for years).

  • Crackling/substandard sound in flash videos (YouTube etc) regardless of video quality setting.

    Hi all,
I hope you can help! Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I'm struggling to find the best place to put this.
    1. a summary of your issue
Crackling/substandard sound in flash videos (YouTube etc) regardless of video quality setting.
    2. the type of computer you use—Mac or PC?
    Desktop PC.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, all updates installed.
    3. steps you've already taken to troubleshoot
The problem occurs after installing Adobe Flash Player 15 Plugin to any browser (I mainly use FireFox). It's listed as Adobe Flash Player 15 ActiveX when I installed it for Internet Explorer.
Before installing it, I can hear the videos fine but I am limited to a maximum of 720p quality on YouTube.
I removed my sound and graphics drivers, after restart Windows 7 decides it will install them again but as the generic/universal ones. No change.
I've heard that because I have the Windows Aero theme activated, I need to disable hardware acceleration - tried this in various ways:
    a) Generic PnP monitor Troubleshoot tab - Change Settings button is greyed out (whether or not I have the real/generic/universal graphics drivers installed). Can't find a way through nVidia control panel to do this either.
    b) Disabled hardware acceleration in FireFox - no change.
    c) Found on your forum here that I can go to a page which will check my Flash version, in theory I could right-click it, hit Settings and disable hardware acceleration there - no "Settings" option in right-click menu. Seems the page has changed.
I can't seem to find a way to interface with Flash directly to disable hardware accelerattion - if this is indeed the solution.
Regardless of Windows Aero theme, I've got it on basic theme now and still the same problem.
I recently reformatted and re-installed my PC, it was working fine before I did this (maybe I had an old Flash release installed?).
I'm at my wit's end... please help!

Sorry, it's all sorted now. After re-installing the sound drivers, decided to tinker with the settings one by one. I had my Creative sound card in Game Mode, thus it was assuming 2.1 speakers aka headphones. Put it in Entertainment Mode and it recognised all the 5.1 speakers for flash videos. Doh!

  • Youtube App is still a joke - why is there no button to switch to High-Quality on a 3G network with high bandwidth?

I was hoping that with iOS5 Apple is also updating the remaining Youtube App - but NO - the problem: Videos are shown in extremely bad resolution when you are logged in a 3G Network - when you are logged in via wifi then the quality of the same video is superb. The workaround: You have to go to the mobile version of youtube and watch the videos via Browser - there is a button to change to High-Quality manually - this button is missing in the Apple-Youtube-App - why is it this difficult for Apple to integrate this function - we have one of the best 3G networks here in Austria, usually there is a download-speed of approximately 2 - 5 Mbit - there is no need to reduce the bit rate when watching youtube mobile on iPad or iPhone on a 3G network. In early days the quality of youtube videos was very bad so it was not a real problem, nowadays when we "could" watch nearly HD on iPad when being on a presentation this IS a problem. Please Apple, these are so simple wishes ...

These are user-to-user forums, they are not monitored by Apple (there are too many forums/threads/messages for that to happen). If you want to leave feedback for Apple then you can do so here : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • IM08 supports new YouTube Feature 'Watch in high quality'

maybe not all of you have noticed the new feature on YT, to playback uploaded videos in higher quality (.. IF the upload offered higher quality... )
    the difference is amazing:
    1) shows no detail.. +who's that mennekin?+
    2) shows the new 'button'.. feature, click on it, than.. :
I added a zoom, to show 'detail' of face.. +ahhh, son #1..+
this 'HighRes' feature is NOT supported by all codecs.. I 'manually' encoded my test video to mpeg4/640x480 = no button, even adding manually that '&fmt= 18' snippet to the YT URL doesn't show 'more'..
a divx/640x480 in a mov DOES show the button..
the most convenient way is obviously an iM08 upload..
    test yourself..

  • Rectangular Pixel Setting: Where? (also tips for higher quality?)

The bottom line: Where can I find the setting -- in Final Cut, in Compressor, or in DVD Studio Pro -- to use rectangular instead of square pixels on export (or burn or wherever)?
The story: I'm trying to burn a DVD for a friend of our kids' jazz concert.  It looks great on computer.  Once in DVD Studio Pro's simulate function, though, all the the performers look slightly stretched.  They look that way on TV, too.  My understanding is that this is due to the difference in computer and TV pixel shapes and that there is a setting somewhere to address it.
These are my settings in Compressor. If that helps.  And, if anyone can recommend settings for higher quality (I'm getting some stepping which looks lousy on big TVs), I would love to hear them
