YouTube Movies Problems? Clear Cache & Cookies

When you hit a link to a YouTube movie on the iPhone, it will open the movie in mobile Safari. Movies wouldn't play and I got a black blank movie on the page with an error message saying that I needed to download Flash. This error message seems to be inaccurate. I fixed the problem by clearing cache and cookies in Settings/Safari. I don't know why that fixed it but not having Flash had nothing to do with why the movie wouldn't play - at least that's the way it appears to me. The error response from mobile Safari is just wrong. Note that the same movie played OK on the mobile YouTube app, but email links to YouTube don't call the YouTube mobile app
Also, Apple's mobile YouTube app "Sharing" function is limited and doesn't tap into the real power of YouTube sharing (Facebook, Twitter etc.). It only allows you to share by sending the link in an email. This makes for a lot of extra work to share a video to friends. Perhaps they'll expand the sharing function in a future update to the app.
It would also be nice in the future if you could set preferences for hyperlinks to call an app other than Safari - i.e. a link containing "YouTube" would call the mobile YouTube app, rather than Safari
Like I said, I don't know why clearing cache or clearing cookies fixed the problem, but it seems like a problem that could be fixed. The desktop Safari doesn't do this

I just noticed that YouTube links in email do open up the YouTube app. Prior to clearing cache and cookie the links were opening up Safari.

• Repeated "Bad Request" errors after clearing cache, cookies, and cookies.sqlite

I get repeated "Bad Request" errors when submitting forms, logging in/out of sites, etc. I get this on a wide variety of sites. I have tried repeatedly clearing all cache and cookies. And I just tried disabling all my add-ons (only have 4) and then deleting the cookies.sqlite file and this still made no difference.
I am using Mac OS 10.5.8 and Firefox 5.0.1 but I have been experiencing this problem in past versions as well, maybe as far back as the latest firefox 3. My main motivation for upgrading Firefox multiple times was hoping this problem was corrected. It never used to happen, it just started happening all of a sudden. It has never occurred on Safari and I am still able to get any site that doesn't work properly to work on Safari without any problem.
I experience this on many sites. One reliable cause of it is logging out of Facebook.

You did delete all cookies.* files ?
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file <i>cookies.sqlite</i> that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> and <b>cookies.txt</b>, if they exist, in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

• Will not load sites linked from another website--have cleared cache, cookies, history, restarted, checked in Safe Mode--still does not work.

Some sites load fine. But some sites will not load when linked from another web site, or, occasionally, even from my bookmarks. I went through troubleshooting routine--cleared cache and cookies, history, checked in Safe Mode for extensions, etc., but still will not work in Safe Mode. No other problems with computer or browser.

What happens when you click the link that does not open up the new page? Is it a blank page? Does this also happen if you Shift Click the link?

The site is likely geo-targeting your location from your ISP assigned IP Address. See the explanation here http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001043.htm or do a Google search for geo-targeting.

• Connection timed out on website. Tried clearing cache/cookies. No proxy. Internet Explorer. Still unable to access. Please help. Website is working.

I get Connection Timed Out on these websites: energy-medicine-software.com and energy-medicine.info. I tried clearing the cache/cookies. I put in No Proxy. I tried Internet Explorer and still unable to access. I rebooted my computer. I know that this website is active because I contacted the webmaster and he says that it's active at his end. What else can I do to access this site? Thanks!

Make sure you install several add / mal-ware scanners and run them all
once in a while. Also;
It’s very sad, but many of the software down-loaders / installers will trick you
into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.
You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some
installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.
You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program
you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the
Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that
you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on,
everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

• I have cleared caches & cookies till I am blue in the face but the National Lottery site will not load-says "connection reset" every time Please help?

I have followed all the advice on the forum time and again and I think I managed to get onto the Lottery site once but if I did anything I got the same message again....."the connection was reset"
It is only this site....what else can I do ?

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Sorted! I cleared the history for Gmail using the history browser and clicking "Forget About This Site." and bingo it picked it up again. Thanks.

• I can't load gmail properly in Firefox. I've cleared cache, cookies, etc. Happens on more than one computer.

I can not load gmail properly. It refuses to load and suggests loading Basic HTML for slow connections. I do not have a slow connection and have no problem loading gmail in Explorer. This is happening on both Firefox and Firefox Developer. The Firefox Developer problem just happened with the new upload this evening. Regular Firefox has been happening for a couple of months. It happens on both my work computer and my home computer. I tried everything suggested including the suggestion to delete cookies, cache, and the cookies.sqlite file.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Hi
How can i clear save passwords, i have found clear history options and it was quite helpful, but there was no option to clear save passwords, can you help.
Kind regards

Fron your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click:  Remove All Website Data
Now empty the cache.
Back to the menu bar, go to Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.
That will delete temporary internet files as well.

• Firefox gave me "URL not valid & cannot be loaded" on SOME common sites. Tried clearing cache & cookies; no help. ALSO just checked using IE browser, and it would not load that site. Bank still works; shopping still works... what gives?

I'm strictly a user; not an IT guy. I can follow directions but need as much specific help as possible - i'm always afraid when i try corrective actions, i'll "break" something else. Need help quick for daughter & me (job hunt).
Other sites besides one listed gave same problem. But (in this case) ACT.org worked fine...

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
>In Firefox 4 Safe mode also disables plugins (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and hardware acceleration (Tools > Options > Advanced > General)

• Updated MBP from snow leopard to mavericks and now can't log into website I subscribe too.  Can log in on other computers, just not using Mavericks.  Tried safari, firefox and chrome.  Tried clearing cache/cookies/history etc.  Any suggestions?

Have utilised the website's Help services with no answer.  They report it's fully supported by Mac system.  Have tried turning firewall off.  Nothing.  Assuming it's a privacy/security setting given no success in 3 browsers???  Help?

Try making a test user account in System Preferences > Users & Groups.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Then log out of your usual user account and try the test user account, and see if the website  will let you in.
I suspect that the problem is an internet plugin that is not compatible with Mavericks. The old internet plugin will not be in the test user account.
If the site lets you in with the test user account, then it's a process of trial and error to figure out which plugin is the culprit.
The internet plugins are found in a few places.
Most are in /Library/Internet Plugins
Some may be in ~/Library/Internet Plugins
~/Library is hidden by default.
