  • BlackBerry 8110 does not initialize only LED blinks for 5 secs

    Hi all,
I bought a used BlackBerry 8110. It worked fine in the beginning - then during some audio recording I suddenly got an hourglass cursor and the handy was frozen.
Removing the battery - even for 24h - did not help. The moment I put in the battery the LED starts shining for approx. 5-6 secs, then it extinguishs for 2-3 sec, and so on. Thats all what happens. The display remains black.
I also tried to re-install the complete device operating system but without any success. But when installing the OS the  ApploaderWebSL-Upgrade.msi was able to communicate with the handy and determines the installed software components and versions. Also the LED blinking stopped (LED was off) and the Apploader was able to delete all software installed on the device and write the new software. When that finishs and the Apploader tries to initialize (reboot) the handy the blinking described above starts again but the handy (and display) remains off.
Does anyone have an idea what to do ???
    Any help is appreciated !!!
    Thanks a lot,
    Katja

  • Blackberry 8110 software upgrade

    Hey everyone,
I have a Blackberry Pearl 8110, I've upgraded the software once now, to 4.5.0.182...
I'm curious, if I went and upgraded to the Blackberry Pearl 3g phone's software, 5.0, or to the 6.0 OS, would it break my phone? Or would just some features not work?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
You can only upgrade to an OS package that is specific for your model BB. So, if a version is released that you want, then you can install it. But, things will of course change -- that's just the nature of upgrades.
    Good luck!

  • Youtube on Blackberry Curve 8520 only working in 1 certain place.......why???

I can never get youtube to work on my blackberry curve 8520 (orange) except when im at my workplace.
At my work im connected to their wireless network, but im also connected to a wireless newtwork at home yet it doesnt work at home.
It also doesnt work anywhere outside.
Why would it only work in my workplace, something to do with my broadband provider at work? I cant seem to think why that should make a difference?
    any help would be great.

It would have been great for you to mention what error you get when trying at home or anywhere outside of your work WIFI. I also have a Curve and I cannot play Youtube on Vodacom, problem is to do with bandwidth allocation by service provider, at work you might have higher bandwidth speed allowing video streaming, check if someone with similar phone on Orange is able to playback Youtube videos. The networks are not willing to release bandwidth for video streaming unless you will be billed extra like some networks do. Hope this solves the issue.

  • How do make my blackberry 8110 ring longer than once?

Hi, i have only just got my blackberry pearl 8110 and admit that I find it very tedious scrolling through user guides and generally learn by just pressing things but I simply cannot find how I can increase the amount of time my phone will ring before going to answerphone - it cuts off after one ring at the mo!  Very frustrating when its in the bottem of my bag!
    can anyone help?

    Check the follwoing -
    GSM string: *61*[Phone Number]*11*[Time]#
In place of phone number put in your voice mail box number (call your carrier to know that) and in place of time put any value i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30. These values are seconds after which your calls will be diverted/forwarded to voice mail. Setting a higher value will meet your query.
This string is applicable GSM carriers only.

  • Turn off texting for Blackberry 8110?

A father here who wants to turn off the texting option on my sons 8110 Pearl without  a hassle. I want to take the phone and re-program it...how do I do it. The family plan from ATT says they will charge me extra $ every month to do this...short of taking the fone ... how can I do it locally?
    Dad

Ask AT&T. They may be able to look up the Caller ID and block the offending party from texting you. You may have to contact the offender and have him unsubscribe you from the spam list via their website or contact their 1800 number to complaint the issue and have them discontinue the SMS right away.
Side note: I don't use SMS myself either. But you do need to have an SMS subscription for AT&T to send you paperless billing from what I've been told by the representative. So I have the $5 a month one for 200 texts. My colleagues don't text me often and I can't receive them anyways unless the phone is not in airplane mode and have a clear line of sight for the E/3G towers.

  • BlackBerry 8110

I dont know why but my battery keeps on dying faster and faster every day, I just got my new phone, Any tips or ways of keeping from dying every day would be great thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Read the below article. It is written by Mark Rejhon.
Max The Battery Life Of Your New BlackBerry
Modern BlackBerrys come with Lithium-Ion batteries, or "Li-Ion' for short.
Some older models used Nickel Metal Hydride batteries, or "NiMH" for short.
Li-Ion battery are best kept topped up regularly. A battery that has been left flat for a long time will benefit from being fully-charged and then fully discharged a couple of times, but there is no advantage to doing this to batteries in regular use.
If you are a new BlackBerry owner, or an old owner experiencing low battery issues, read through these tips:
You DO NOT need to break in the Li-Ion BlackBerry battery. On BB Models 71xx, 81xx, 83xx, 88xx you will be using a Lithium-Ion battery. These do not require "conditioning" as you might have experienced with other cell phones and batteries.
Note: Don't get in the habit of fully discharging the battery every time -- to prevent wearing it out -- lithium batteries can be damaged with excessive deep discharges like a car battery can be.... When breaking in the battery, make sure you keep it plugged in long after the battery says it is fully charged (i.e. overnight), you really want to trickle-charge your BlackBerry to top-off your battery.
Lithium batteries LOVE to be topped-off. In regular use, plug it in whenever you have the opportunity. This will also help keep the battery life maxed out for those days you really need long battery life.
If you are constantly starved for battery power, avoid continuously realtime software such as BBToday software; it uses a lot of battery power.
Is your BB constantly searching for a signal, such as in an office building or other low-signal area? Searching for a signal will drain a battery quite quickly. If you must conserve the battery, turn the wireless or radio off.
What is running in the background of your BB? There are commonly 4-5 applications that will ALWAYS be running (Messages, Phone, BBMessenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are others such as BeamBerry and MyAlarm which will also run). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (say with animated radar or another live webpage such as a news website constantly updating to the current news, but rather only to the bookmarks page). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (like the camera or a game).Press Alt + Escape (the key to the right of the trackball on trackball models) to bring up the Application Switcher. Scroll through that list to see what is running in the background.
Keep your Bluetooth turned off when not in use.
If you use JiveTalk, Verichat or other instant messaging software, leave it running in the background or quit it when not in use. Also, stay logged off the networks you do not use much.
    <em>
In JiveTalk > Preferences, there is a setting "Battery Save Mode When Idle". Make certain that is checked.
Keep Verichat running in the background when it is not in use. This puts the software in a low-power state by reducing the frequency of contact-list refreshes (signoffs/signons/away mode/etc) Using fewer instant messaging networks also saves battery power. For example, if mainly use MSN and AIM, log off the ICQ and Yahoo networks.
When using your BlackBerry, make sure you keep the backlight turned low or off whenever possible (rather than bright mode). A backlight setting of 60%-80% is wise.
Many BlackBerrys have an extended battery available, such as at www.seidioonline.com. There may be an extended battery product for your specific BlackBerry product.
There's the novelty factor of using a BlackBerry for the first time; we tend to play with them much more heavily at first. So your usage may normallize after you get used to it. You might expect the first two to three days for the battery to discharge quicker.
If you haven't bought a BlackBerry yet, you should be aware that the GSM/GPRS BlackBerries have the longest battery life. Battery life is longer on GPRS BlackBerries than the CDMA and iDEN BlackBerries.
Phone calls made on your BlackBerry is the biggest consumer of battery life. If you make lots of phone calls for hours, then your battery life can be extremely short. Making phone calls in areas of weak reception will also use up more battery power.
Consider a car power kit, or an office charger/cable. That way, you have more opportunities to top-off your BlackBerry battery.
As noted earlier, it's always a good idea to top-off the battery in a BlackBerry anyway, even if it's not almost dead. It is not necessary to follow the age-old advice of using up the battery before charging, and can wear out modern lithium-ion batteries if done on a constant basis.
Your battery may be defective or worn out. Compare your battery life to other people using the same model of BlackBerry.
If you have been using your BlackBerry for a long time, it may be time to replace your battery. If you purchased your BlackBerry as used, you may want to replace the battery with a new one. For best battery life, it is generally best to use genuine brand-name batteries rather than inexpensive aftermarket batteries.
Occasionally, it may be a BlackBerryOS issue if you are having unusually short battery life all the time. Early versions of BlackBerryOS on the 7100 tended to use a lot more battery life than newer versions of BlackBerryOS. Upgrade to a newer version of BlackBerryOS.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
First -- these forums are a user-to-user community, not a user-to/from-RIM channel of communication. As such, nothing about formal support exists here...only volunteers trying to help out other kind souls.
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

I have the software with Roxio support but it says there is an error. I use AAC from iTunes so is there another option to upload music to it. What are your choices.

DRM protected music is not currently supported on BlackBerry devices. It supposed to be coming with the soon to be released OS 4.5.

  • Connecting 8110 to a computer

Hi, I my computer does not recognize, communicate to or charge my Pearl 8110.  My current Blackberry (7130c) is recognized and communicates and charges. When plugging in the new Blackberry (8110), it says "One of the USB devices attached has malfunctioned...". I believe at one time it did seem to recognize it, but I have never been able to get the desktop manager to see it. I suspect it is a corrupted driver, but I am at a loss as how to replace the driver. I have replaced the Phone and the Cable.  I have installed and removed and reinstalled the Blackberry Device Software (8110M_PBr4.3.0_rel164_PL2.6.0.53_A4.3.0.93_AT&T_Wireless) and the Desktop Manager (and upgraded it (DM 4.6.0.13)).  I have also loaded BlackBerry USB and Modem DriversENG (DM4.6b13).msi.  I am running Windows XP 2.06.  Thanks in advance for your help!  I have been pulling my hair out for over a week on this.

    Hi,
I would find it hard to believe (but not impossible) that you received two Peals with defective USB ports.
It may well have happened. Especially as you cannot charge via wall or USB.
I would look over these to links on connectivity and see if any apply:

There are two things that should really be put forward in this post.
First, this is not a final candidate of Media Sync, but a "Preview Version". In other words, I'm assuming it's Beta.
Second, the following cannot be stated clearly enough: "After installing the Preview Version of BlackBerry® Media Sync, other software previously used to synchronize data with your Mac®, such as PocketMac® for BlackBerry® devices or Missing Sync, will no longer be able to connect to your device and will not work until BlackBerry® Media Sync is uninstalled."
I like Media Sync. It works with my Bold and I can import my iTunes playlists. What I don't understand is why it would, by its installation, nullify other applications like PocketMac which are just as important (if not much, much more). What's the point if installing one cancels-out the other? Is this being corrected? What is BlackBerry/RIM's development timeline on this software (ie. when can we expect a finished version which works with other applications)?
