YouTube Sound not working on Imac

My friends intel imacs sound is not working on youtube. Safari is the browser and all software is update. Any suggestions?

Sometimes apps can change the default sound settings, but by opening Garage Band and playing a sample loop, those defaults are restored.
If that was the cause, the sound should return.

Sound not working on iMac

The sound on my iMac does not work anymore. I can't hear music from iTunes, nor anything else on the internal speakers; also, the mic does not seem to be working either; when I try to record a message on skype, it does not work. In fact the volume button in the menu bar is faded, the control panel in system preferences only shows "digital out- built-in output" but says that "the selected device has no output control". When I hit F11 or F12, I get a circle with a bar in it.
I tried a reset of the SMC and the NVRAM but it does not work. does anyone have a solution?

Double check to make sure that you have your mic plugged into the mic (input) jack and not the headphone (output) jack?

Youtube sound not working, but everything else is ok

I have an extermely annoying problem with my iMac in that it will not play sound on any Youtube clips.   I have tried all other websites and they are fine. I have googled this and this is what I have done, but still doesn't work.   I have this problem on Safari and Chrome.
removed/reinstalled Flash (did this for internal Chrome, no luck)
checked in Midi the Khz is 44100. even changed it to something else and back again
reset NVRAM
logged in as another user
booted from an external disk with completely clean install
Even reset my router in case it was some wierd networking issue (unlikely, but desperate)
Youtube via browser on my ipad works fine.
I am absolutely baffled and don't know what to do.
Any suggestions?

     System Preferences > Other/ Flash Player > Advanced > Delete All
     Press the "Delete All" button
     Install Adobe Flash Player.

    Quit Safari.
    Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.

Sound not working on Youtube video embedded in webpage used in web clip.

I created a web clip and installed it using ipcu. On the web page I've created that I'm using for the web clip, there is an embedded Youtube video. The sound for the video is not working. Why is the sound not working? It works in safari if go to Youtube.

My computer also recently downloaded soundflower? I didn't approve of this change
I'm not sure what that means, but if Soundflower really is installed, uninstall it according to the developer's instructions. Back up all data before making any changes. Reboot and test.

so im busy trying to watch videos on youtube and halfway through on vid. the sound stopped so i went to a different video and it still want working so i went to my iTunes to see if my sound simply was not working (itt worked) then went to youtube, did not work/

Does your YouTube video window indicate that the sound has been muted? For some reason my videos have been muting. I simply adjust the volume using the slider in the YouTube video and my audio is restored. Hopefully your issue can be solved too.

In this forum and in many forums I have read posts regarding YouTube is not working.
In my situation I have updated to the latest version of apple tv (2.3). My Leopard is up to date / itunes also.
I am sharing internet connection in imac using Airport. Eveything works but YouTube does not work.
I can log in with my YouTube username (this shows it can successfully connects and gets reponse from the server), BUT I can not view featured/most viewed etc. I only see spinning apple thing.
I have been useing apple tv for 3 days and firts date YouTube worked. Also yesterday I did restart atv with menu + - for 6 seconds and relogged in to itunes and youtube worked again. I watched the whole night. I did also made some testing like rebooting atv again / turning of internet sharing and so on, magically it was working. I did get a good night sleep and in the morning when I tried again boom YouTube was broken again.
My only request from apple tv tech guys to admit there is a problem with YouTube in Apple TV so we can stop trying to make it work.

Well I kind of never give up and still trying.
Today I figured out something, I was looged in to You Tube Account from apple tv. I clicked on History (on Youtube/History) and I could view the movies. When I click on one it start stream and downloads it. So there is no connection issue due to my hardware router etc. The only places I get the spinning wheel is when I try to use Youtube/Feature/Most Viewed/Top Rated/Search
There is definitively connection to the server but why I can't navigate the above links mentioned.
I would really appreciate any suggestions it does not matter if you know a fix or not but each feedback would help me solve this issue.

So for some reason YouTube is not working properly on my Safari. I don't know why but its normal for Chrome. Can anyone help me fix this? Here is what is happening.

This looks like an emerging issue with YouTube. But, to make sure:
1) Quit safari (command + q with it open)
2) Open finder. Click on "go" on the top menu bar, then click on "go to folder." In the prompt that comes up, type in:
~/library
3) Pull the caches folder to the trash. This will ask for your password
4) Open Safari. Click "Safari" by the Apple logo, then click "reset safari." Make sure everything is selected, then reset safari.
5) Try again.

Sound not working in windows vista using bootcamp

i recently installed vista on my imac 24in 2.4ghz 4gb ram and the sounds not working. searched google and this came up.

I myself had the same issue, no sound and nothing indicating a problem. Insert your apple disc and click repair, reinstalls all the drivers, this fixed it for me, although I had several other drivers fail some weeks later, so started from scratch and been good for a month or so

Do you get the opening chime before the OS loads?
You might want to try downloading that QT update directly from the Website.
When you turn the volume up and down before you watch a youtube video, do you get the sound?
I take it that it's only in the .mov files where the sound malfunctions?

I do not know if it's relevant or not, but I got a message on my ipad while on safari saying that my iPhone has a virus. I looked it up and it seems it might have just been an ad from the website I was on, but it happened around the same time YouTube stopped working.

You will find that using the YouTube app will provide a better viewing experience for YouTube videos.

I've been using Vista Home Premium successfully for some time. Recently, not too long after I did a clean wipe of my OS, my audio would stop working. The way it would happen is that everything would work fine until I started iTunes or another audio application and when I would hit play, things would lock up.
Upon inspection of my system resources, I'm noticing that the audio platform for Vista, via the audiodg.exe, is using close to 100% of my CPU resources, even when the computer is making no sound at all.
I've had a Sound Blaster Live! card in my computer for some time but I was not using it; I use the Realtek AC'97 audio drivers that are on my motherboard instead. I thought that the conflict may be the computer wanting to recognize my Sound Blaster, so I took it out of my computer but the problem seems to be worse.
Are there any BIOS setting that need to be adjusted for my sound to start working again?
I'm very reliant on the audio processing power of my computer (I'm in the radio industry, part-time) and this is a huge drag on my productivity.
Any tips would be much appreciated.

Good suggestion. The problem is this:
I am running on-board audio. I have an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard which runs "Realtek ALC Series AC97 Audio Driver" and there is no version for Vista. They have a version for Windows 2K/XP and one for Windows XP 64bit.
Should I use on of those and if not, then what?
UPDATE (from me):
I took a chance and found a Realtek AC'97 driver for Vista.

I went to install it and the install hung. So, I closed one of the install windows and then the InstallShield app continued like it was working. So, I hit "Restart my computer". Well, the reboot hung too. So, I reset the PC manually.
When the computer came back up, the sound worked. Hard to tell if this will fix it for good but it's promising. Chaotic. Unpredictable. Annoying.

UPDATE II (from me):
My computer is behaving the same way it was before. AUDIODG.EXE taking up 80-100% of my CPU and the sound not working.
Any other ideas?

Small update: Despite my intelligence, good looks and vast experience I use Google sometimes. To my surprise this file turns out to be a Windows one. Here is someone who is much happier, and since it is some way in my line of thinking I'll quote it, but you might take my previous advice as well:

Every webserver that receives a request from your browser is able to determine the HTTP USER AGENT information unless it has been removed by some software (e.g. firewall) before the request was trasmitted.
