Youtube videos freezing

My older MAcbook Air has been having problems seeing Youtube videos and others.  They start normally, but hang after about 2 minutes.  Not just buffering.  They spontaneously unfreeze after about 4 minutes.  Thanks!

reinstall your Adobe flashplayer plugin

If conventional videos show FINE on Quicktime and VLC the issue is either your connection or flash plugin, or corrupt  browser

As it says in the title, most Youtube videos freeze after a certain amount of time for me, but the audio continues.
Happens on Firefox, IE and Chrome

This happens mostly because of obsolate drivers.

• Why do youtube videos freeze

I upgraded My PC HP D530 mtc To 4GB Corsair Memory Ram & also upgraded from Win Xp Pro To Win 7 Ultimate And Last Of All I Upgraded My Graphic's Card To 512mb Nvidia Geforce 6200. I Have Defraged My Pc Etc,But My Pc Seems To Take Ages To Open Next Page & Also Youtube Video's Keep Buffering And Also Freeze. I Would Be Highly Greatful If You Can Help Me Pls. Thank You

Hello Promusicman,
You specifically mention Youtube videos is that the only website that freezes. What if you watch videos on other websites such as break.com do they freeze there as well.
Youtube also sometimes defaults itself to high definition videos which does take more bandwith to watch, if you watch in a lower quality does it still take a long time?

• Youtube videos freeze, audio keeps playing. As long as I keep moving my cursor, it play ok. What's wrong?

This seems to happen on all Youtube video's I play. I don't know about other videos because I seldom view any others. When the video freeze happens the download bar is always ahead of the play bar so I don't think download is the problem. However, when the freeze happens, the download bar stops moving. When the play bar catches up to the download bar, the audio stops also. If I move my cursor, the video and audio start playing again. As long as I keep my cursor moving, the video plays fine. I am using Firefox 18.0.1. Computer is an HP dv6-1350us with dual processors. OS is Windows 7. I also use Chrome at times and the freeze doesn't happen on Chrome.

hello vearlbible, maybe it's an issue with the protected mode in the flash plugin - please go trough the troubleshooting steps provided in the following help document by adobe: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071
or as an alternative you could try downgrading to flash 10.3 (which is still supported) & see if this solves the issue.

• Youtube videos freezing when trying to watch, hibernate problem.  Brand new Lion install

Hello,
I have just reinstalled Lion from the recovery partition, straight Lion install so no Snow Leopard to Lion upgrade.
I have carried out all software updates etc. However, when I attempt to watch videos on youtube the player freezes my page and it fails to load.  I have also experienced problems going fullscreen.  I use safari and not a third party browser.
I have a 2.4ghz Core i5, with 4gb ram and a 10mbps broadband connection, so can't really see this being a performance issue.
The laptop should still be under Applecare so if needs be it is an option, but if I can get this is something quick and easy to fix then that would be ideal.
Also it might be worth to note that sometimes the laptop has problems coming out of a sleeping state, the keyboard will light up and I can see a very dark picture on my screen if I concentrate, the only way I can recover from this is to hold the power button to turn it off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, these problems have been driving me insane!

Most YouTube videos require the Flash plugin. Try troubleshooting ..
Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed Flash plugin first before re installing.
Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
Also it might be worth to note that sometimes the laptop has problems coming out of a sleeping state, the keyboard will light up and I can see a very dark picture on my screen
Try resetting the Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Doubtful the Flash issue is related to sleep mode.

• YouTube video freezes after resolution is increased or video is expanded. what is the slolution pleas?

While i open YouTube video it freezes after resolution is increased or video is expanded.

Well, I have Mountain Lion and the latest version of Flash (11.8.800.94) installed and I don't see this happening on my system... at all. I just tried to reproduce your issue with no luck.

• Youtube video freezes at 11 seconds

Before the latest update of Firefix (I now have 15), YouTube & other sites played videos fine. Now, these videos only play 3-11 seconds before freezing l) i update all my plugins also tried re install real player also not work

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.
In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:
Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems
Flash 11.3 crashes

• Windows 7 64 bit: I just upgraded Firefox to 7.1 , I can't watch video on youtube, video freezes, then the browser freezes. I right click on the icon showing the page is open on the taskbar & click close then cancel, it starts then freezes again?

When I watch any video on youtube, every video first starts with short freezes then freezes the Firefox 7.1 Browser window. I have to right click on the icon that shows the browser is open on the taskbar at the bottom of windows and then click on close& cancel to get it to start working again. Also, on any site, I am having problems with links & functions that suddenly stop working, site connections being dropped frequently for no reason, my Modem is stable & internet shows connected. On facebook when I click a button(photos) it doesn't work, in Amazon I click on "submit" and the button stops functioning, in yahoo mail I can click on a button to "send" mail and it won't work. I can open them in IE9 or Chrome but not in Firefox. I have tried disabling all plugins.I also have tried disabling all but flash and still the problems persist. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FF.

Command + R *should* take it to a recovery console. Command + Option + P + R resets the PRAM, but that doesn't sound like your fix.If all of your buttons are working fine on OSX side, I would ignore PRAM / NVRAM / SMC reset tricks, since these are tested as working fine.
I would say you should probably reinstall the drivers for bootcamp. I tried this with 5 in Windows 8 and it gives you an option to repair. The reason I say this is because the UI isn't showing up, which means that it's using another driver.
If this doesn't work, go into device manager and then roll back to your previous settings.
One more thing comes to mind. Do you ever use Parallels or VMWare to load your bootcamp partition? They have their own driver packages which can cause some unwanted behavior when using windows natively.
One last thing you can do is try to by-pass the GUI powerplan entirely. You can use the Powercfg command, which, as it happens, has instructions on how to forcefully set the brightness values. You probably won't be able to make it through these instructions since you will get an error at some point, but that will give us more diagnostic information.
Good luck!

• Youtube videos freeze after a certain point and can't be played

Every time I get on Youtube I can watch up to like 30 seconds of a video and then it freezes and I can't play. I've cleared my cache, I've checked for updates, I've restarted the computer etc. Its not my computer I know because when I use Chrome the videos work.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Youtube videos freeze on iphone 4

When I try to view videos using the built-in YouTube app they play for a few seconds and then freeze, repeatedly.  I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.3.  Any suggestions?

Thanks, I don't know why I didn't think of resetting it--that usually helps with problems like this. and it worked for this one too.

• Youtube videos freeze but audio continues - 13" Macbook Pro Retina...

This problem occurs in both Safari and Goodle Chrome. The video buffers about a fifth of the way and stops. When the video reaches that point it freezes on that frame but the sound continues as if nothing is wrong. The rest of the page is fully responsive. It's simply the video... Help please

• YouTube videos load so slow compared to other browsers

YouTube videos are completely downloading in memory from the start, slowing down the PC a great deal.
So if I try to watch a 20-min 1080p video, I have to wait ~20-30 secs to load completely in the memory. Only after that can I watch it without the PC freezing completely.
How can I get back to the original functionality, where the videos were downloaded incrementally as you watched them?
My setup is: Intel Core2Duo 2.2, 3.2 GB RAM 800MHz, ATI Radeon HD 5670 w/1GB memory, 100Mbit broadband (~8-10 MB/s with youtube servers)
However, Chrome for example loads flawlessly with almost no lag. But I love Firefox and don't want to switch to anything else...
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
Thanks in advance,
Nicolae

Hello,
Thanks jscher2000 and cor-el for the support.
I disabled all the plugins beside Shockwave Flash, still the YouTube videos freeze the PC until completely loaded, eating 100% of my CPU.
My only Add-ons now (when I re-enabled them) are:
* Shockwave Flash
* Adobe PDF
* Google Update
* JRE 7u7
* App Button Color
* Firebug
* Live HTTP Headers
However, I noticed a few more things:
* The Firefox PC-freezing occurs mostly on high-resolution videos (1080p)
* Chrome puts his video download/processing thread on a lower priority somehow, so the CPU is at 100% too, but the other programs (including the video stream itself) are not affected
* Putting Firefox and Chrome side-by-side with the same video stream, 1 real-life minute will allow Firefox to play ~1:02 min of YouTube video, while Chrome remains at ~0:58.
I also attached a screenshot of my PC streaming on both browsers, maybe that will help anyone.
Thanks again for all your support,
Nicolae

• Videos freezing but the sound still goes on?

Any video except Youtube videos freezes/stops moving the frames as it's paused at some random point but the sound and the timer/slider/scrubbing tool/bar still goes on with the sound.
Please help!
It happens at random times, random sites and browsers. Also it happens in random places in videos too. Usually at the very first seconds though.
1-) I have tried different browsers,
2-) Tried other sites,
3-) Other resolutions and varietys of videos,
4-) Flash Player (Puffin and Photon),
5-) Resetting my internet settings,
6-) Power off and on my ipad,
7-) Googling this problem.
Steps of the problem:
1-) Can watch the first seconds/minutes perfectly.
2-) When I try to slide forward it automatically stops/freezes the visual/frames but the sound and the time still goes on.
3-) It happens when I don't slide forward too.

Hi,
Is it a Plug-n-Play or Plug-n-Pray headphones ? Have you installed its driver ? Can you see it in Device Manager ? If Yes and Yes you have to disable the internal speaker and enable the headphones using the speaker icon at the bottom right (Playback devices).
Regards.

• I have a new Macbook Pro.  When watching Youtube videos, it works perfectly until I attempt to watch the video in full screen.  When in full screen, the video freezes immediately and the audio continues.  When minimized it works fine as before. Help?

I have a brand new Macbook model A1502.  I am taking online college classes that incorporate youtube tutorial videos.  I can watch the videos if I don't maximize the screen to full screen.  When in full screen, the video freezes immediately and the audio continues uninterrupted.  I can press escape and go back to the previous screen and the video continues to play with no problems.  Can anyone help me please?  This machine is literally just out of the box with maybe an hour of use.  Thanks in advance

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.
