Why do YouTube videos lag when I switch to 720p?
Hi guys,
I'm extremely annoyed by the fact that everytime I watch a YouTube video and switch the quality from a standard 480p to a 720p or 1080p HD, the video gets lagged out. After restarting my Macbook Pro, it gets better and in a short while when I try to view it in 720p again, it gets laggy again. I have no problems viewing it in 320p or 480p. I notice this happens after I installed a number of updates on my Mac OS X 10.
Here's a list of updates I made.
(1) iTunes 10.4
(2) Mac OS X Update 10.6.8
(3) iMovie 9.0.4
(4) Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.1
(5) Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.7
(6) Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 5 1.0
(7) AirPort Utility 5.5.3
(8) Migration Assistant Update for Mac OS X 1.0
(9) Safari 5.1
(10) iDVD 7.1.2
(11) ProApps QuickTime codecs 1.0
Does anybody have any idea which of these updates that has caused my Macbook Pro to react unusually? Everything seems pretty normal except this YouTube video.
Thanks.A lot of people on the other forums seem to suggest it's the internet connection.
I can tell you for one that I have never experienced anything like this before. In the past two years with the same internet plan, I have been able to watch 720p and 1080p HD YouTube videos without any problem. Just today after installing those updates, the video gets lagged whenever I switched to 720p HD.
I just restarted my Macbook Pro and everything is fine for now. In half an hour or so, it's gonna happen again. -
When ever I ad effects to my video the video lags. Its fine when I export it. Is there anyway I can turn the videoquality down to stop this or something,

Right now I am using the blink effect. I wasn’t sure if it was just that effect so I tried the emboss effect and a blur effect and the video seemed to lag when I used them as well. When I export the video the blink effect runs smoothly, but its hard to tell if I got the video how I want it when it lags in the preview window. -
for some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store. my old iphone 4s audio jack was messed up but i just got a new one with my warranty , can anyone help me please.
It doesn't matter what it is in your backup that's causing the problem because you can not selectively restore things from your backup. It's all or nothing.
Set you phone up as a new device and start over. -
Ever since I updated Firefox the videos I watch keep on flickering when I stream this. It is true of youtube, and other mediums. This is not a problem when I watch videos on Safari or Internet Explorer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox to no success and restarting my computer has not helped either.
Hello, if the Flash player is not up to date, please update it, aslo:
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
# Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
# Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
# Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
# Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know. -
Flash video lags when uploaded to Youtube.
Hi.
I have tried to upload one of my flash videos on youtube, the only problem is that it lags!
The sound is perfect, but the film only shows about 1 frame per second, when it's supposed to be 12 frames per second. This is obviously nothing worth watching when the picture lags as much as it does.
I have uploaded the same video on my facebook profile, and it worked pretty good, but as I already said, it lags when it is on youtube.
I don't have any movieclips in the movie I uploaded to Youtube.
Does it have anything to do with the settings on the movie? I eksported it in to a quiktime film before I uploaded it to youtube. I saw a tutorial where the person exported his flash into quiktime and uploaded it to youtube, and the animations were smooth, but when I do this, it lags.
Can anybody help me?I don't see that. To me, it looks the same quality as any YouTube video.
How do most YouTube videos look to you? -
Can anyone find a way to fix this? If not, then I'll have to send my MacBook Pro to the nearest Apple Store.
Which os do you have installed?

RMBP, Chrome, Youtube: Video delays when in full screen
Hi all,
I have a retina Macbook Pro running Mac OS X 10.8.2, Chrome 25.0.1364.99. When I watch youtube videos there is normally no lag. Once I switch into full screen mode, there's a slight delay where instead of the video the screen will show a blank white screen before switching to the video.
This results in a slight 0.5-1s lag of the video behind the audio.
Opening the same video on Firefox and going to full screen doesn't result in this blank white screen and does not result in video lagging behind audio.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.Thank you,
it also worked for me

Had the exact same problem the past couple of days, was really frustrating as it was making videos play delayed in full screen and I tried searching for it everywhere but couldn't find any solutions.
Anyway, what I did has fixed it as a temporary workaround:
1. In Chrome, type chrome://plugins in the address bar
2. Click top right to expand +Details
3. Navigate to:

Youtube videos freezing when trying to watch, hibernate problem. Brand new Lion install
Hello,
I have just reinstalled Lion from the recovery partition, straight Lion install so no Snow Leopard to Lion upgrade.
I have carried out all software updates etc. However, when I attempt to watch videos on youtube the player freezes my page and it fails to load. I have also experienced problems going fullscreen. I use safari and not a third party browser.
I have a 2.4ghz Core i5, with 4gb ram and a 10mbps broadband connection, so can't really see this being a performance issue.
The laptop should still be under Applecare so if needs be it is an option, but if I can get this is something quick and easy to fix then that would be ideal.
Also it might be worth to note that sometimes the laptop has problems coming out of a sleeping state, the keyboard will light up and I can see a very dark picture on my screen if I concentrate, the only way I can recover from this is to hold the power button to turn it off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, these problems have been driving me insane! Most YouTube videos require the Flash plugin. Try troubleshooting ..
Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed Flash plugin first before re installing.
Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
Also it might be worth to note that sometimes the laptop has problems coming out of a sleeping state, the keyboard will light up and I can see a very dark picture on my screen
Try resetting the Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Doubtful the Flash issue is related to sleep mode. -
I've been having a problem with youtube for a while, where the videos will play like a badly made stop motion film. The audio runs fine, but the videos cannot play normaly. Halp!
I just got off the phone with Apple regarding a similar issue with my MacBook Pro 15" that I just bought last August. My situation: when watching videos in HD on Youtube/Vimeo/etc., when playing, the video will pause, the load ring will start spinning in the middle of the screen for about 2 seconds, video will continue, only to restart the process all over again. This only did it in fullscreen HD (720 or greater), but worked fine in the default mini-screen on the page.
The only reason I bring all this up is hopefully you can use it to troubleshoot your system with the same methods and rule out possibilities. The tech asked me if I had Firefox and to check and see if I had the same problem in that browser. To my surprise, it worked just fine in Firefox, so that means that it is a Safari issue. In Safari, click on the "Safari" name in the header (up by the apple where you do your software updates and so forth) and choose "Reset Safari". From there, I simply selected "Empty the Cache", "Clear The Downloads Window", "Remove All Cookies", and "Remove All Website Icons". You can choose whichever ones you like. If you are experiencing the same problems in Firefox, click "Tools", "Clear Private Data...", and follow the same procedures.
Mine works just fine now! It makes sense as I didn't have this problem when I first got my computer. They recommend that you do this at least once a month as all of these temporary files and so forth can bog the system down. Anyway, I really hope that this helps.

IPad streaming video lags when any bluetooth speakers or headset used
Cannot even watch a Netflix movie or YouTube with any bluetooth device or the streaming video will begin to lag and buffer. iPad also lags with streaming music, like Pandora. As soon as I turn off bluetooth, everything works fine. Why??? I heard it's because bluetooth and Wi-Fi share a antenna which causes a signifcant decrease in performance. That the same chip is used to decode both signals. So when both bluetooth and Wi-Fi are being used at the same time the process slows down for both signals. Is this true???
I'm in the same boat, I thought it was because I have a ipad 2. It's since the ios 7 update. Although tonight there was a 7.3 update so you never know they might have fixed it.

I think this happened a couple of weeks ago. I sudden realized that everytime i change the quality of a clip on youtube or simply maximize it the video stops playing .. i can only hear the sound. Trying with different browsers works just fine. Please help
Try to disable the hardware acceleration in the Flash Player.

I absolutely HATE IE, so I hope we can find a solution to my problem.
Pc info: Win 7 64 bit, 2.9 pentium with 4 gig ram
video: radeon HD 3800
Three days ago I was infected by some malware. While i had it i could not watch videos on youtube in full screen unless i constantly moved my mouse. I uninstalled the malware and it didn't help. I reinstalled videos card drivers (even tried the new beta drivers), firefox, adobe flash, java 32 and 64 bit, and performed these steps: http://techlogon.com/2012/06/04/flash-player-crashes-in-all-web-browsers/
I've reset Firefox, emptied cache in Firefox, and manually deleted all program temp folders I could find. Also, I have disabled all add-ons and plugins, and even ran Firefox in safemode. Nothing seems to work.
There may be a few things I've forgotten that I've tried.well, in windows safe mode, it seems to play the video in full screen without the mouse moving, but while playing (normal or full screen) it either restarts the video several times or straight crashes the player.

Why do youtube videos blink when you scroll up and down the page?
<blockquote>Locking duplicate thread.<br>
Please continue here: [/questions/788365]</blockquote><br>
for some reason out of the blue youtube blinks when I am scrolling on a page while playing a video. I tried deleting the cookies which appears to have worked until I re-logged into my youtube account and any video I watch still blinks. Have any ideas?Hello toekneesee, try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Why wont Youtube videos load when using Firefox 3.6.3?
I've been having issues with youtube when using firefox, the video doesnt load or show up for that matter its just a black screen where the video should be and on the bottom left hand corner of Mozzilla it says "done" I've tried everything, I updated java and flash but nothing seems to work. What can I do? I know I can use other web browsers but I really want to fix this

www.youtube.comThere are a few reasons why youtube might be broken:
* An extension may be causing the problem: try the steps at [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
* ''Bad item stored in the Browser Cache'': Follow the steps at [[How to clear the cache]].
* Firewall software is blocking some resources on the page: see [[Firewalls]]
If none of this works, let me know if Flash video from other sites work. Here are a few you can try:
