Youtubevideos played on "favorite site" are slow [SOVED]

Hi there,
I have a very annoying problem;
I use firefox with the flashplugin provided by adobe (32bit)
RV670 with xf86-video-ati-git without KMS. (I have no idea if this is related...)
Some videos like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN7Xs9WVNBU work "ok" with 30% CPU on X and 30 on Firefox.
This video how ever lags: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6VerKdcrOQ
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

edit 4:
The problem only arises when I play the videos in on "favorite site"....
Strange... FF bug?

  • IWeb sites are slow to upload. text columns turn to heavy png files

    Hi!
Yes I've noticed that iweb sites for some odd reason are slower to load on any browser. No matter what the hosting is. I use Me.com for a few years and iWeb as I don't have the time or patience to bother with Dreamweaver. I use Me.com for hosting as well as another web hosting server. If there is graphic material on the page, it takes so long to open. Apple must do something about it for sure.
The program iWeb itself doesn't open up fast enough if you have more than 3 pages on it (which any normal site would have). I'm glad Apple made good changes in iWeb09, but it needs to do something about the speed of the program, the sites it makes and how it processes simple matter on it.
Even though, I have come across some good examples of iWeb made sites that are easy and relatively faster to open or they open at a normal speed. The authors also have used flash material on their iWeb sites. I have a non-registered program (web site Maestro) that claims to ease up and streamline the graphic and other heavy content on a iWeb site to make it lighter with loading.
But the unregistered version works on 70 percent files only. And I don't really notice any difference with it either. So I'm doubtful of buying the full version.
Any thoughts? Solutions? Would really appreciate.
ANOTHER ISSUE that I have discovered while making iWeb site is that a text column put on a shape after publishing turns into a heavy PNG picture file that can weight almost upto 1 whole megabyte!!!
And you keep wondering why the darn page is so slow to open!!! Cuz a simple text could've been just about 50kb. But it turns into a 900kb picture in png!!! Is there a way to change this?? I guess, taking out the picture from the published site folder and reediting it in - say - Photoshop reducing its size may help. But its so cumbersome and arduous to go into every darn folder and open all the text now converted into pics and re-edit them!! And then their reduced quality will make the text look feeble and bad quality too.
This is a problem that APPLE iWEB experts Must work on. iWeb gives a certain flexibility as its like a free flowing canvas. But then its also a known fact that iWeb sites are exceptionally heavier to open, unless you know many other tweaks here and there to make it work right. But again, this is contrary to the purpose of iWeb, cuz its made for amateur site makers.
I wish there is a work around this thing really.
ANY SUGGESTIONS FRIENDS?? WOULD LOVE TO HEAR. PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND SOLUTIONS.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Nitesh

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Shapes by their very nature are graphic elements that end up a png file whether there's text in them or not. You should try adding the text in a text box above the shape and see if there's any difference. Just be sure to use a Web Safe Font and not add any enhancements that will turn it into a image file:
You may not notice a difference with loading with WSM but those with Internet Explorer should. Have you tested your site with and without WSM on a PC?
In WSM you can set the amount of optimizing for graphics. I've set it at about 60% (moderate) and haven't tested other settings for image quality. I'm sure a lower quality level, i.e. more compression, will have a impact on file loading. I just don't have a feel for the greatest amount of compression that will still have acceptable image quality. You'll just have to experiment.
If your site is a commercial site then using a commercial hosting server is the best option. Also, it's reported that using a Text Based Navbar instead of iWeb's java based one will help dark side compatibility.
Be sure to put in feature requests for the improvements that you see necessary to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.

  • Dreamweaver Sites are Slow. Shall I combine it with CMS or WP?

Hi guys, i designed two websites already in dreamweaver and uploaded it in a Hostgator-hosted domain, and everytime I visit the page, it loads very slow. Is that the normal thing for such website? Or should I use Wordpress or other CMS to make it faster? Thanks!

Firstly, your site is hosted on a budget webhost (hostgator). You get what you pay for. Your website is sharing the same server with hundreds, maybe even thousands, of other websites.
WordPress is itself a CMS (a big fat slow one).  CMS = Content Management System. A CMS allows non-web designers to manage the content of a website, even creating new pages, adding images, and managing the menu. A CMS is tied to a database and puts more strain on the web server, so if you are using a budget host like hostgator, a CMS could perform more slowly.
Check the image sizes on your website and optimize them in Photoshop, if you have not already done so. Your images might be the problem.
Try moving the Google analytics code to the bottom of the page. I'm not familiar with the script you are using for google analytics. If it is the asynchronous version, it should run quickly. At any rate, there is usually no need to run it in the head.

  • Ebay and other sites are slow and/or unresponsive, what can I do?

When going on to ebay site (and some others) it either doesn't load the full screen or the green circle just goes round and round to a blank screen or the screen gets messed up and displaces the information. I can't do anything on ebay but my email works fine at good speed, amazon is bit dodgy etc.
If anyone knows how to fix it I would really appreciate it.

Hello sarahpatterson, many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], choose History, and then Clear Recent History....
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
    Thank you.

  • Since installing Firefox 24 for OS X, pages on the Pinterest site are slow to load and often stalll and freeze.

I am seeing normal behavior with Chrome and Safari. I have disabled Firefox add-ons to no avail. To be candid, I thought I might find that several Firefox users were having problems with Pinterest.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Games are slow

I have Flash Player installed but when I play my games they are slow, can anyone tell me what to do?

OK well it could be a number of things.
I understand you haven't had your machine very long, so it probably won't have anything to do with it being 'clogged up'.
It could be a memory leak problem. Memory leaking happens when an application doesn't remove the data it places in the RAM properly. This is usually down to bad programming and as RAM is volatile (it gets cleared every time the machine is turned off) a simple restart cures it.
I've heard safari can leak if left open and used for too long, some people have reported 700MB of actual RAM usage from safari alone after it had been left open and used for a few days. (not sure of the version though.) Do you ever turn your machine off? I know many users that just leave theirs on literally 24/7, even people with notebooks!
Either way, a good start would be to open Diablo II or whatever you feel is causing the sluggishness and then open activity monitor (found in the Utilities folder) and post the data you see here. Please post CPU, system memory and disk activity, along with the processes that are the culprits. That should give us an idea of what size chunk of your machines power is getting eaten up by these programs.
You may simply not have enough RAM, so the computer is having to load the data from the hard disk, something that take a very long time. However I only have 2GB and I haven't experienced any issues with games and even more intensive programs like Logic Pro.
Anyone else who knows a bit more please step in if you think I'm sending him in the wrong direction, I'm by no means an expert!!
    EDIT:
Having looked at the system requirements for Diablo II (which are extremely low) it's very clear you're having an abnormal problem. Your machine should be able to run it with no problems at all!
Really need to have a look at your activity monitor to see where the issue is!

  • Yesterday all web sites were fine, now some websites are fine, some are slow, some do not look correctly

I am using a Dell inspiron 1525, running Windows XP, Firefox 5.0 both OS and Firefox have the latest patches and fixes applied. Yesterday all websites were loading, responding and appearing properly. Today some are working properly and some are slow and do not appear correctly. No updates were applied in the last three days. To make matters even more confusing, When I us IE, the sites work correctly. I believe it is something with this laptop because Firefox 5.0 works just fine with all sites on a different machine which runs Windows 7. I tried re-installing Firefox 5.0, going back to 4.0.2, 4.0.1, all resulting in the same outcome. I ran a virus scan and nothing was found.
Any insight you can provide would be appreciated.

As of today, neither sample songs on the music store nor songs already downloaded will play correctly.  They are stuttery and slow.  I have iTunes 10.5 and have not downloaded any upgrades for anything recently.  They were working last night. Thoughts or advice?

I found a solution that worked for me.  Here is what I did and where I found it.
"Looks like I tracked down the problem, it worked for me so I hope this works for everyone else experiencing problems.  Go to your Task Manager and locate the program APSDaemon.exe (Apple Push)..... if you see this executing terminate the program and then startup iTunes and it should come up fine.  You will see afterwards that APSDaemon.exe (Apple Push) starts back up but this is fine as long as iTunes has already started.
I tried playing both music and syncing up my iPhone with no problems.  Note if you shutdown iTunes again you will have to terminate the process APSDaemon.exe (Apple Push) again.  Haven't had time to see what in the world Apple Push is but this appears to have corrected the problem so that you can at least use iTunes and sync any device that needs to be synced.
    Hope that helps everyone!"

I got my code but when i try downloading it it says retry as net connection is slow, but i am on a high speed broadband and all the other sites are opening simultaneously then why this problem?

Because Apple's not spent those billions of bucks lying around on a modern, high-speed delivery system or providing DVDs for those who don't have high-speed connections or uncapped DL capabilities.

  • Videos on Hulu and other video sites are not playing.

Videos on sites like Hulu and NBC do not play. The sites load fine, and in fact the ads load fine. But when it gets to the video, nothing comes up at all, just black. Eventually some error comes up like "could not get video at this time."
Youtube DOES play fine. No problems with Youtube.
All of these videos play perfectly fine on Safari.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing flash, and opening in 32-bit mode.
I have a newer iMac running OSX 10.6.8. My Firefox is up-to-date.

I realized my problem. I have the program Little Snitch and it was denying a plugin container. I suppose I accidentally said deny once. Went in and changed the settings and videos play fine now.

  • Site to Slow?

    Hi guys,
Just wondering if my site is slow or about average. Think it may be the wireless network I am currently using.
    Thanks, Kriss886.

I really like the way you combined your background image and your main content to act transparent. I played around with your background image for a while and learnt that adding a 'center' value allows for specific positioning. Without the 'center' value , the image was displacing whenever I manually zoomed in and out in my browser:
    body {
        background:#000 url(images/tester.jpg) no-repeat center;
        margin-left: 20%;
        margin-right: 20%;
This may help others who are in the learning process, like I am.
I'd really like to know how to add in transparent images into my work!

  • Safari 5 lags on favorite sites

suddenly safari is lagging on some of my favorite sites after WWW:. I have to retry several times and then get the "cannot connect to the server" screen and then reload the site and it usually works. this is very frustrating. I have cleaned the cache and reset safari without any difference. should I go back to safari 4?

    HI,
Try troubleshooting before reverting to a previous version of Safari.
Try this again regardless. From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. Try a site. If it's still slow...
You may have third party plugins that were compatible with the previous version of Safari but not Safari 5. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
    "cannot connect to the server"
Users with this problem are benefiting from using Open DNS Free / Basic Simple process and free.
If it's not third party plugins, Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.
Make sure you have enough free space on the startup disk. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*
    And repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If Safari still lags, go here for help to revert to a previous version. http://appletoolbox.com/2010/06/downgrade-from-safari-5-0-to-safari-4-0-5/
