Youview box stange activity.

Ok I've been noticing this for some time now everyday at 5am to 5:30am I hear my youview box in my bed room power up and can hear HDD activity for a good thirty minutes. Anyone got any clues what it could be I have no recordings set for this time of day so it shouldn't be doing this really.

The youview box does require a stronger signal than a TV due to it having a dual tuner. Have you checked signal strength on the YV box in the settings?

  • Free Youview box for new BT infinity customers

Does anyone know how to get the free youview box for new BT infinity customers?   Ordered new service on 12th Dec and called in later to check how/when I'll get the Youview box.  The CSR told me that I had to call after the broadband was installed to arrange to get the box and I would have to pay £5/mo for the TV service but according to the BT site, it's supposed to be free for BT infinity customers and £5/mo for other broadband customers (+ the £49 activation fee for all customers).
As I understand it, the offer ends 31st Jan but my infinity broadband is not scheduled to be installed until this Friday, 1st Feb (after a whole lot of aggravation, wasted time, incorrect info and failed follow-up by various BT reps).  I'm afraid if I call in afterwards, I'll be told that I missed the deadline to get the box and/or I have to pay the monthly fee even though I'm a BT infinity customer.
Since BT phone reps have been unreliable, can anyone provide info on this?  Thanks for your help

I wasn't aware I had to do this when I signed up.  So you're saying even though my line isn't installed yet and I'm a new customer, there's no way to get this if I didn't add this at the time of order even though I know this offer was active when I signed up?  When I signed up, there wasn't an option to add free TV service for 12 months for Infinity so I didn't add the service offered at £5.  Would BT really use loopholes and technicalities to avoid providing something they've offered and put up billboards everywhere to promote?

  • Why can't I use a Vision+ and a YouView Box

    Hi,
I'm with BT and pay £5 a month for BT Vision. I have their YouView box in one room. They only allow BT Sport on the YouView box if you have fibre and there's no fibre in my area. I asked BT if I could run a YouView box and BT Vision box at the same time and they said no. I ordered a BT Vision Card for a tenner via the online BT shop and bought a BT Vision+ box off eBay for 99p. My assumption was that I couldn't run both boxes at the same time (ie connected to the hub)......not a problem I can only watch one TV at a time!
I've disconnected the YouView from the BT Hub and connected the Vision+ Box but I get a C03 message saying my Vision+ isn't activated. Am I right in thinking BT must be able to activate one of two Vision services depending on the box? My initial assumption was that only one box could physically be connect at any one time.
Has anyone else experienced similar? Is there any way around this? Seems unfair as I am a BT Vision customer, I am paying £5 a month and if I want to watch BT Sport I have to give up my YouView box. BT say I can watch their channel via the web.....not being funny but a simple google search and I could watch their channel without even needing to sign up!!!!!
    Thanks
    Louis

It sounds like the 99p BT Vision+ box is running the Classic software rather than the New Look software. This is something you really should have checked before buying a second hand box. Once such boxes are deactivated they are effectively a door-stop unless BT choose to reactivate them. The box would need to be reactivated and then BT would need to send the New Look software upgrade to it in order for you to be able to use the viewing card for BT Sport.
I don't know, but suspect that BT would be reluctant to activate and upgrade a box that wasn't issued to you directly by them. They have been gradually turning off the Classic software over the last year or so and it involves older licensing agreements with Microsoft and content providers. Plus it might cause the central system problems now that you have a newer BT Youview box associated with your account. I suppose there's no harm in asking though?

  • Is YouView box free with BT Vision?

I am thinking about adding BT Vision again to my Infinity 2 and Anytime calls package and was wondering if I would get the YouView with it. If so, can I add the cheapest Vision deal and still get the box free?
I am thinking about extending my BT contract for another 12 months.

I am thinking about extending my BT contract for another 12 months.
See this page for adding BT TV to Infinity.
    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=27270&upg=inf
Currently TV Essential (£5) should come with a Youview box and the TV Essential Extra (£7) should come with a BT Vision+ box. If you go through the selection screens to build a package then it will add the correct box automatically. There is an activation fee of £49 and a minimum term of 12 months for either box.
The reason for the different boxes is that the Youview box currently can't support the way the extra channels are delivered. However this is likely to change in a few months time as the BT Sport channels will be delivered using the same method, and BT have said Youview will support BT Sport channels by Aug 1st. Of course there might then still be some other reason why BT don't offer TV Essential Extra and TV Unlimited Extra on the Youview box from August.

  • BT Youview+ Box questions

I need a new PVR, would be grateful for help on BT's latest box...
Can you get Youtube on it?
Does downloading BBC Iplayer, Youtube, count towards my monthly Broadband usage?
If I record programs via aerial and Freeview tuner in the box, they will then be sitting on the box's hard drive. Is there any way to move them off the hard drive to an external device e.g. USB stick, to archive them?
Does engineer install box or self-install?
Never had a BT TV product before - thinking of £5 per month TV Essential package 12 months contract. £35 activation charge and I think £6.95 p&p for the box. Am currently on Standard Broadband but changing to Infinity when engineer arrives in January.
    Thanks for any advice.

    No.

No. Data used by the BT Youview box does not count towards a BT Broadband monthly allowance.

No. The content providers are very keen to protect their material and modern PVR's are becoming more and more locked down. The USB slot is only used for an external keyboard as far as I can remember.
Does engineer install box or self-install?
Normally self-install. Three input cables - power, TV aerial, and ethernet from BTHomeHub. Two output cables - HDMI or SCART to TV, and optional aerial pass-through to TV.
If you need some help or would like a long ethernet cable installed then you can ask for a BT TV engineer installation. I believe it is normally £35. If you need a TV aerial installed it costs a separate £120 and requires a separate appointment by a partner of BT.

If you wait until after Infinity is activated the BT web pages should then show the correct BT TV services and offers available to your home with Infinity.
If you would rather get Infinity and BT TV activated at the same time so the contract start dates line up you might be able to add BT TV to an existing Infinity order. That might also mean you get a BT TV engineer installation for free if required as one engineer will probably set up the lot if notified in advance.
If you are not sure about needing TV Entertainment then starting off on TV Essential is not a bad idea as you can always upgrade at any time later. BT are always happy to take more money off you! You can still add the free BT Sport Infinity multicast channels to TV Essential.

  • YouView box for existing customers

    • What options do existing customers (BT Infinity) have to upgrade to a YouView service/box?  I don't want to be stung on 'Activation' fees.
It appears to be the 'Essential' package (£5 a month).
    • I don't really want to buy the player, and I don't want to pay a £35 activation fee.  I believe the YV box comes for free as part of the package.  If the fee is £5 a month - that's a pretty cost-effective way to buy it (it's around £180 new for the T1000*)
    Some other questions:
    • I presume BT are supplying the Humax DTR-T1000 (500GB model) box, rather than the silver T1010.  I think the T1010 is the same player but just with a silver case.
    • Do BT (eg the firmware on the player) 'lock down' the Humax in any way?  For instance, would the T1000 box you buy on its own be 'freer' than the one BT provide?   Would the firmware updates via BT be slower than the ones you'd get if you bought the box on it's own (ie not via BT, from Amazon)?
Thanks for any replies - much appreciated.
*does this turn into liquid metal and run after Linda Hamilton?

    1. Pay fee
    2. Pay up for service you want
    3. Yes it us the 500 GB box
    4. Yes updates come after those to retail boxes.
BT are supplyng a service if you want it, really you have to pay for it and enjoy it.
If you don't want to pay for the BT service then you have to buy a YouView box for yourself.

  • New standard Bt vision box v Youview box

I am bit confused, I know BT vision is about to start giving Humax Youview box to it subscribers I thought this was to replace the old silver BT vision Boxs howevervier I notice that bt has already started supplying new ( black) BT vision box's. Are the youview box replacing the these black standard  BT visions box or are both types still likely to be supplied. If the later what do you get on the black standard Bt vision that you can not get on the youview box?

The 1st generation BT Vision box was the grey one you refer to.
The 2nd generation BT Vision black box has been in use for a few years now.
There are suggestions that BT are testing a 3rd generation BT Vision HD box, but this is still under development and there are no official details on that yet.
The BT Youview HD box will be a separate thing. It is not designed to replace the BT Vision boxes. It gives those who want to make use of other non-BT Youview services an option to do that. However the BT Vision services via Youview will not be as comprehensive as those provided via the official BT Vision boxes.
    See this BT help page.

Personally I don't really see the point of BT having their own branded Youview box. If people want a Youview box they can just go and choose one from those on offer in the shops. As far as I know Sky have no plans to create a Sky branded Youview box, yet they will still offer services on Youview. But who am I to say.

  • New YouView box seems to cause wireless to stop wo...

I recently upgraded to a YouView box for my TV. The things is, since I've installed this, it seems to cut out the wireless connection to other devices in my home. (In particular, my wireless printer and windows phone.)
When I reset the Hub, the printer then works fine for a while but my phone doesn't and it's not long until I have to reset the whole thing again because it's stopped working.
I've tried moving the Hub further away from the YouView box and closer to the printer but it doesn't help. All worked perfectly before I got the YouView box, I never needed to reset the Hub at all.
I hope someone can help? Many thanks in anticipation!

    Hi Pauline85,
Thanks for posting. Have you tried changing the wireless channel? Take a look at How do I change the wireless channel on my BT Home Hub? and let us know how you get on.

  • Youview box out of stock

I was incorrectly sent a Vision + box as opposed to a Youview box on a new order. BT apologised and re-ordered me a Youview box and gave me a delivery date but all that arrived was the controller in the post! After calling back I have been informed that the Youview box is currently out of stock?? When I have asked when stock will be available (on 3 separate calls) the operator has been unable to confirm when there will be a re-stock and/or when the box I ordered will be sent out.
To be honest I find it hard to believe that there is no stock of Youview boxes in the country and feel as if I am being fobbed off. I would appreciate if one of the mods could assist and advise when (or if) I will ever receive the box I ordered? As I have returned the unwanted Vision + box I am now paying for a TV service I cannot access!
    Thanks in advance.

We ordered a youview box at 8pm last night. It is being delivered on Tuesday. No stock issues mentioned.
It sounds as if you are being fobbed off.

  • Can't access browser when "Save As..." dialog box is active

    Hi all,
When I am downloading and saving a file and the "Save As..." dialog box is active, I'm not able to click behind it to access the browser as I can with Internet Explorer.
I need to be able to access the webpage while the dialog is open, as I often need to copy/paste text from the webpage into the file name field on the Save As... box.
Does anyone know if there is an add-on or something that will remove this limitation?

The problem with that solution is that when I close the dialog box so I can copy the text I need from the tab underneath, I lose the location of the folder for saving the file, and then I need to navigate back through all the folders to find the location again. This is a waste of time.
I cannot copy all the text at the same time into the Save As... box, as I need to take the text from several locations on the webpage (such as program name, version info, etc) and compile it into a useful file name.
Again, if anyone knows of a workaround for this issue (other than the clipboard addons which will only complicate matters) then please repsond.
    Thanks!

  • Using video sender with Youview box

I have just set up my new youview box.
With my previous BT box I was able to use a nikkai video sender so I could control and watch the TV/box in another room.
This doesn't seem to work with this new box. Is is incompatible for some reason?
Is that I just haven't put the "receiver" widget near enough to the infra red on the box.
    Greatful for any help! Thanks

    Hi Poynders,
Thanks for posting. Take a look at YouView screens not visible over AV / video sender . It’s an older thread but might help. Let us know how you get on.

  • Can I Watch BT Sport On My BT Youview Box WITHOUT ...

    Hi
I hope I have a simple question that has a simple answer!
I have a recently supplied by BT Youview box(Humax I believe). BT line rental and BT Broadband as well. I am in an area that does NOT get Affinity.
Can I get BT Sport on my Youview box? If so, how do I go about it?
I used the online chat assistant(32 minute wait) and the person there said I could-but as we got further in to the conversation she said she didn't know how to enable it as she was actaully from the billing department and didn't know how to do it :-( She said she'd pass me on to their techincal people to help me and she'd call me straight away. She did this and asked me to close ALL BT windows on my computer before she could pass me on. I did this. Only to find I had been put in a queue for some Bt helpline :-( After 38 minutes of being told BT were very busy, but that they would get to my call as soon as possible-the call simply disconnected. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, not sure why they treat customers like that but it certainly makes you think twice about migrating to SKY :-(
Anyway, I've spent ages on the phone and the computer trying to enable BT Sport without success. All I really want to know is: can I have BT Sport on my recently supplied BT Youview box with BT Broadband on a BT line? If I can, how do I do it? If not, will it be available to me any time soon?
I hope I have given enough info to help answer this simple question but if not PLEASE don't hesitate to ask for more detail.
Many, many thanks to anyone that can help clear up this frustrating issue for me :-)
    Heraldic

Thanks for that. The thought of trying to get back through to BT again fills me full of dread :-( I think I'll pass on that and give up hope.
    Thanks again for the help.

You would really have to speak to BT about that. (sorry). They would have to release you from your current contract and restart you with a BT vision box.
My fear is that they would charge you for the Youview box you currently have as it only becomes "your" box after you have completed a 1 year contract.

  • Connecting Youview box to DVD and TV. Now ordinary...

Hi, Does anyone know how to connect a TV, BT Youview box and a DVD recorder together.  I have two SCART, one RF and one Aerial connection together but now we cannot watch our ordinary TV.  I need this for my son.  It is probably a simple connection error but we can't work it out.  Any help greatly appreciated

Put the aerial feed in to the YouView box 'antenna in' and connect a cable from the YouView 'aerial out' to the 'aerial in' on your TV. Connect YouView box HDMI out to HDMI socket on your TV if you have one. If not connect the YouView to SCART to your TV SCART. Connect your DVD player to the other SCART socket.
Use the AV setting on your TV to switch to the YouView box and:
Go in to you YouView menu as follows:
YouView/Settings/Device Management and make sure 'RF Loop Through' is set to ON.
This will allow you to access your own TV's tuner and YouView also.
Use the 'AV' setting on your TV to switch between TV's own tuner, YouView and your DVD player.
HDMI is preferable but if you don't have any HDMI sockets - and most TVs do these days - then SCART will have to do.
I hope you get it working.

  • Original Humax Youview box - no picture.

    Hi.
Over the month or so my Youview box has been behaving very oddly. When it wakes from sleep very often I get no picture and no sound. My TV says "no input" on the HDMI.
The box starts booting with the "Nearly ready" graphic showing... then when the TV picture should appear I get nothing. The remote still works though and I can change channels.
Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes turning it off and on again brings it to life. Sometimes the only thing that brings the box to life is to do a factory reset in maintance mode.
Maybe this is a software issue? Has anyone else experienced this, or do any of the mods know what my course of action should be?
    Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply - I've been away... Couldn't see a link in your profile for "contact the mods".
I don't think is anything to do with the tuner, because the channel name and number are shown in the LED matrix display on the front of the Humax..
I had a bad night with the box last night, just decided randomly to stop showing the picture and cut off the sound. Put it into standby and back on again and everything would come back to life.. Tried it this morning and got the purple screen. Powered off with the switch on the back, waited a while. Turned back on, this time I'm getting nothing - not even the "nearly ready" screen... But as ever, the channels are still shown on the LED display and Ican change channels with the remote.
Looks like another maintance mode reset when I get home for work
Should I just try to get customer services to send me a new box? Is that how this works? Haha. Any further help/suggestions/ideas would be appreciated!
    Thanks
