Youview ESPN and will my old BT Vision Box still w...

My 18 month BT Vision contract is about to end so I called sales regarding a new deal. I was interested in the new Youview package but have a few questions that could not be answered by the sales guys.
Firstly, if I get the new Humax Youview box for my new HDTV, will my old BT Vision Box still work, as it is still the perfect solution for On-demand content onto my old non-HD flatscreen using a scart cable.
The BT Vision box also gives me free ESPN which I am told I will not initially get on the Youview service.
If the old box stops working I will be missing out on this great free channel.
Also the BT Vision box gives me the option to add Sky Sports 1&2. Again I'm told this will not be available on Youview until an app is launched that will make this work properly.

My understanding is that you can't get the Sky Sports/ESPN channels on the youView box yet & that you can't have both boxes connected to the internet at once so you have to choose between one or the other at present.
I have a Vision box with the Sky channels so will be waiting until Sky is available on the youView box before switching...

I am sure that you are excited about the arrival of your new phones. I don't blame you! We are certainly working hard to get these out as fast as we get shipments in from Apple. • Re activating my old silver Vision box

    Hi everyone,
I cancelled my BT vision subscription a few months back as thought I would no longer need it.  At that time I was not paying any monthly charge for vision as the package term expired and I only used it as any other freeview + box and paid for films etc as and when I chose (not very often)
From what I have read the new all singing all dancing black box is actually NO different in spec except the power! My thought then was well why get a new box when my old silver one works fine.  BT said I could use old box and would put me on the 17.99 package.  Now I am currently paying 13.99 so could not quite get why I have to pay more just for them to connect me.  I dont want the option 2 broadband which comes with the package.  I have only ever had option 1 and has been more than ample.  They said they would account for the box in my order but the box is worth £90. Yet My monthly charge goes up! I don't see why I can't just stay on my 13.99 package? Has anyone had a similar experience?
Also out of curiousity, HDMI socket on my silver box will allow me to watch HD films, never noticed that on back of box previously.  Or do I need to be in a HD area? (sadly i'm not)
Anyway I have waffled on a bit there but appreciate any comments.
    Many thanks

To answer your last question, none of the current Vision boxes can receive Freeview HD, so they are no use for that.
BT Vision does include a small number of HD programs, and you can use the HDMI to view them in HD on your TV.
The rest of the time, if you use HDMI, the box simply upscales the SD signal to HD.

  • Anyone swapped a vision box for youview?

I started my tv,broadband and phone contract on the 28th january, I was sent a bt vision box, apparently because sport was included, I'm not happy that bt vision isn't free to air HD, I wasnt explained this when ordering, I've just got off the phone after being messed around for an hour, to be told that to get youview box will be an upgrade and a cost of £199!
has anyone got this upgrade free/cheaper?
    cheers

You need to make it very clear to them that you are not asking to upgrade, you are asking them to correct an error in the fulfillment of the original order. They sent you the wrong equipment that didn't match your order confirmation and what you expected.
I wouldn't give up that easily. You still have 10 months to run on the minimum term! If the mods don't offer to help then you could try the online chat or submit an official complaint about the order via the "Contact Us" option at the top of this page.
As long as you aren't receiving Sky Sports or receiving BT Sport via the TV aerial using a viewing card  then there was no good reason for them to send you an old BT Vision+ box. It has happened to others in the past and some were told it was due to shortage of stock of Youview boxes. They said, that was naughty of you to do that, can you please now send me the correct Youview+ box as promised! It should get sorted if you keep at them.

  • New BT Vision Box to receive Freview HD?

I had been a BT Vision customer for around three years. I then moved to Sky for two years, but am now thinking of coming back to BT Vision, especially with the prospect of BT Infinity.
I've looked around the forums and website to see what's changed/improved with the service and I must say I'm impressed. However, as has been documented many times on this and other forums, the Black Vision+ box is unable to receive freeview HD. I'm aware that BT are linked with Youview and a new freeview HD receiving box is in the pipeline alongside that with an ETA of sometime early next year.
Interestingly, I just had a online chat with a BT customer service person called Roxy and inquired into this. My question to her was whether it was worth me signing up now to BT Vision or waiting a few weeks for the new freeview HD receiving box to be available. The answer I got was "You may as well wait", and she implied that the new box shall be available in a few weeks.
    Thought you might be interested.
I shall be waiting a few weeks.

  • New replacement (black) BT Vision box

New black vision box arrived today, installed, but trouble. Most channels are not available and others have distorted sound and picture. ITV1 is OK cannot get BB1 and many others. The Vision box is connected direct to the TV, no other device inbetween. Switched off scanned again. Same result. BT India say I have a signal problem which is not their problem. I had no such problem with the silver box. BT India say I cannot reuse it as it has been deactivated. I am sorry I laid eyes on the black box which I did not want anyway.  Any advice please?

  • Error CO3 on second vision Box,can anyone help??

Probably been asked lots of times, but how recently? Got an old black vision box and a silver one (additional to my main one) and just want to know is there any way I can get either of them to be a stand alone pvr in another room, when I unplug my main box and load up either of my old boxes I just get a Error CO3 message,I thought I read somewhere there was a new update so you could use the older vision boxes, any info please??

The old silver boxes can't take the new software.  The early black ones can take the new software, but can't do everything that the new ones can.  However, it requires BT to push the new software to the black box - there's no way to request it from the box.
I suspect your problem is that your main box is on the new software, which requires different things of the BT servers.  So when you plug in an old box, it is no longer connecting to a server it can talk to, hence a C03 error.

  • Help setting up BT vision+ box alongside Sky digib...

    Can anyone help?
I got a BT vision+ box free with my renewed broadband subscription. I already have sky, cant access freeview ( live in a terrible reception area) and I don't have a rooftop aerial. I understand that I can't use the BT vision+ box to get freeview, I only want to use it  to access iplayer and 4OD etc on my TV. Is there anyway to hook the sky digibox and the BTvision+ box up to my TV?
The TV is HD/digital ready with two scart and two HDMI connections at the rear. One scart connection goes to the sky box and one to the DVD-R which I currently use to record from sky (it records on AV2). Neither HDMI slot is in use.
The manual which came with the BT vision+ box says I can use the HDMI slot and connect it to the vision+ box - but as I dont have an aerial to connect the BT vision+ box to, I wonder if it would work? As far as I know, the iplayer comes through the BT home hub, so do I need the aerial connection if I wont be trying to access freeview? I don't want to start messing around with the current configuration in case it all stops working, or I banjax the BT vision+ box.
If anyone can advise the right connection configuration, I'd be very grateful!

  • New BT Vision+ box always has red power light

My father has just re-subscribed to BT Vision and received a new Black Vision box. Setup went through OK. Update received and installed fine at first boot. However, the Power light has never changed from being red, not the record light, but the power light.
The Box is working fine, you can watch, record pause, rewind, on demand everything. But the power light refuses to change colour, as I understand it should show either Blue, Purple or Red. Well we've never seen either of the first two. Any ideas? We tried turning it off completely overnight - no change.

  • Youview HD and Vision HD

    Hi,
I've been on another thread asking why no HD on a Vision box?
As we all know, the current box does not have DVB T2 to support Freeview HD, as this tech did not even exist when the boxes were in production.
My question is, why no HD NOW.
The technology's out there, but BT have chosen not to implement it yet.
Personally, I think BT are waiting for the launch of Youview.
Youview will be the IPTV service of the future.
Targetting the seven million Freeview users with broadband.
It makes commercial sense to do this.
The only thing I've been scratching my head over is BT have stated the current Vision box will be able to support Youview.
    No it won't.
Youview box specs state a box MUST contain twin DVB T2 tuners for reception of SD and HD Freeview transmissions.
And  support HE AAC Dolby Digital audio.
    And stream live HD content.
Err... No. The current Vision box won't do any of the above.
Nor can the majority of boxes out there. This is brand new technology.
    Thoughts anyone?
Vision to be phased out? A HD Vision box showing HD Youview? A HD Youview box to deliver HD Vision?
The future of IPTV is going to become very interesting, thats for sure!
    Rank - Mostly Harmless.

I believe there may be some confusion about what YouView is. It's not a service, but a platform. BT Vision will continue to provide a service but it's delivery platform will be YouView (and the legacy Vboxes for a while). So you'll be able to **bleep** down Comet and buy a Humax YouView  box with built-in Freeview or a Pace YouView box with built-in Freesat if you want then contact BT and ask for Vision, or Talk Talk and ask for whatever they call their package or whoever else decides they want to use the platform to support their content. Since that's all a bit of a pain, the service suppliers will be likely to subsidise the kit in exchange for content contracts.
It's possible that the current boxes may support the IPTV component with a bit of new software to allow you to get your service from elsewhere if you want even though they're not compliant to the spec, but eventually they'll be phased out as they're really a bit of a support millstone round BT's neck.
So the current notion of a proprietary Vision box will disappear, but BT Vision will continue purely as a service.
As for why they're not doing an HD BT Vision box; as I said elsewhere it would be wasted effort to put another generation of proprietary kit together when an open platform is just around the corner which they then have to spend the next 5 years supporting. Better to let it be Pace or Humax's problem. Yeah they may lose some customers on the way in the short term but some bean counter somewhere has no doubt decided that the lost business would be outweighed by the cost of the development/testing and support effort. It would be slightly bizarre if they spent the last 3 years developing the spec. for a  box and then came out with something that doesn't conform to that spec a few months before it launched. It would also royally hack off their customers if they got a new box and then every one started getting an even newer, shinier more useful box six months down the line. You've only got to read this forum to see that some people expect new hardware for nothing as soon as it's released. Why build your own bus when a number 69 has just left the depot and is on the way? Even if it is going to be a bit of a wait it's still better than the grief of employing a heap of mechanics to keep fixing the darn thing when all you really want to do is pay the fare and relax.
The name of the game then becomes how to attract customers who are getting their programming from Talk Talk et al through their YouView box to the Vision camp, which they can then do without providing any new kit at all. The competitors, of course, will be doing the same and that's where it gets interesting. I don't know if there's even a limitation on having one supplier at a time with YouView. If Vision and TT are substantially different and attractive in different ways you may be able to get both if that's what floats your boat and you're not still trying to pay off your student loan.
Or I could be barking up the wrong tree (or even just barking).
