Yup, same old...my iPod Nano 6 won't recognize on my Windows or iTune

My iPod Nano 6 started having this issue about a week ago and it's driving me insane! I can't get it to recognize in either Windows or iTune. I had this iPod Nano 6 for a little over 3 months and never had this issue.
I usually leave my iPhone 3 and iPod Nano 6 plugged into my laptop (only pc I have)USB port when they are not in use (or overnight) so they are fully charged up when I use them. But about a week ago when I woke up and started my PC from "sleep or hibernate" mode noticed that my ipod nano is not seen in either Windows iTunes but my iPhone 3 is recognized in iTune just fine.
I have tried many things to get my iPod Nano to be recognized by iTune. I made sure iTune is the latest version. Reset my iPod. Restored iPod Nano to factory setting. Swapped sync cable with my iphone. But come to find out only way I can get my iPod to be recognized in Windows or iTunes is by deinstalling my iTune then reinstalling it. Then same issue happens again day or two later when I wake up and check my iPod. I have reinstalled my iTunes three times already this week. Something else that have been going on since I owned my iPod Nano: it completely powers off itself for no reason even though battery is fully charged This happens even when its plugged into USB port on my laptop. I have to restart it by holding down the “menu+minus” buttons to turn it back on. I am not sure if this issue is related to my original post, however. So question is how do I fix this issue?

It's been well over a week with my nano directly plugged into my laptop usb port and old issue hasn't come back. For experiment purpose, I connected the nano to rocketfish usb hub so that only device connected to hub is my nano and wireless transmitter for mouse...but my iphone is plugged directly into laptop usb port. No issue with this setup either. So it appears that my usb hub is indeed underpowered and can't support both my iphone and nano simultaneously only if my laptop is allowed to goto sleep, hibernate, or shutdown.
Still baffles me why only nano is affected. Also, why is usb hub being "underpowered" even an issue when all apple devices are fully charged? What actually is getting corrupted inside my nano?

I would like to move my songs from my ipod nano back on to my freshly reinstalled windows and iTunes.  Can that be done?  I turned off automatic syncing so I can charge up the ipod.  Help!

You won't be able to, just by navigating out the iPod's photos folder in iTunes. You'll likely need the help of some sort of third party software to get the job done for you.  One thing you'll want to keep in mind about these photos is that they are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnail versions that were optimized for viewing on your iPod's Video smaller 2.5" LCD display.

  • 3rd gen iPod nano is not correctly recognized on new Windows 7 iTunes

Moved my iTunes library from old PC to new Win7 PC via direct iTunes folder copy.
    Looked ok
but when I connect my 3rd Gen Nanos, I get dire warnings that I have to authorize new PC with my son's AppleID not mine (was originally his iPod but long since factory reset and reloaded) or else iTunes will delete purchased songs. (The new PC is authorized for my Apple Id).
I have 2 of these iPods and the other one was never my son's so I don't know why it also thinks it needs his id.
When we check my son's account and look at devices, the iPods are not listed. (maybe only newer iOS devices are listed?) So I can't "remove" the iPods from that account via the iTunes Store account profile.
yes, I have tried reinstalling iTunes and wiping the registry - no luck.  If I "cancel" when the dire warnings come up instead of authorizing using my son's account, then the iPod is not recognized at all by iTunes (does appear as external drive in Windows) and I have to reinstall .... again.
    My questions are:
    1) do the old iPods themselves some how store the original Apple ID they were associated with?
    2) If so, how can I reset to use my Apple ID?
        Will "factory reset" work?
What I don't want is to reset and then find out I can't reload using current iTunes library associated with current Apple ID
    3)  I don't think this will solve the problem but: in iTunes, can I separately sign in  with both IDs and authorize the computer with both IDs? Can a single instance/install/library of iTunes use 2 different AppleIDs? (there are not 2 users on this PC - just 1. So just 1 iTunes instance, just 1 library)
    More details:
    I tried:
If I authorize the new PC for my son's account which the ipod and Itunes seems to want, then when the iPods are connected, all the song's listed in the library in main/right pane are greyed out and can't be selected.  I don't recall this being a problem on the old PC so something seems wrong.
    I am concerned that:
If I give up and authorize this PC for both Apple Id's,  then what?  If I buy something new from iTunes (using, can I sync it to the iPod?

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • My ipod nano (2nd generation) will cont connect with windows or itunes, windows says it has had reported errors??? any help? havnt used ipod in over a week and now it wont work with my computer

my ipod nano (2nd generation) wont connect with windows or itunes, i used it last week (charged it through USB) then this week when i connect it (once again through USB) it wont work, it says "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems" any help? ive made sure my itunes is up to date, done a reboot on my computer and ipod and still nothing..help please

This could either be a conflict with the iPod's docking port, the iPod's USB sync cable, or even the USB port you are plugging the iPod into on your PC.  So the first thing I would try and do is plug the iPod into a different USB port on your PC.  Make sure it's a high powered USB 2.0 port as they provide a higher power throughput than older USB ports or even the ones that are sometimes available on the front of the tower.
It might help to disconnected all other USB devices from the PC (minus the keyboard and mouse) and reboot the PC. Then reconnect the iPod once again.
If still no luck, swap out the cable with another known working cable to rule out the possibility of a damaged or faulty cable.
Lastly, plug the iPod into another PC to see if it's recognized there.  If the same error appears on another machine, it's likely a hardware issue with the Nano meaning you'll want to have it serviced or replaced.

  • IPod Nano 4Gb (2nd Gen) not detected by Windows or iTunes

I am hoping someone can help me with this as I am at my wits end.
When I plug my iPod into the usb port, it begins the charging process, but neither windows, nor iTunes will detect any new devices. I have tried the 4 R's (the fifth needs a connection with iTunes), putting it into disc mode, and even on 3 different windows computers, but no dice. To save the no doubt normal questions, The usb ports are 2.0, and brand spanking new, which i have tested sucessfully with other usb devices, so I know it's not the usb port. I have the latest drivers & updates installed, and the latest version of iTunes also installed.
    Other potentially useful info:
The model is iPod nano 4bg alu 2nd gen
It's not new, i was given it as a gift by a friend who upgraded to the video model.
Though I can't be sure, I suspect that the dock cable isn't an apple product. Given that *very few* places where I live sell official iPod accessories, it is difficult for me to check.
Like I said, i really hope someone can help me, I really don't know how long i can go listening to my friends rather dubious music tastes...

  • How to reformat Ipod Nano 5th gen when not recognized by Windows or iTunes?

I've done all the steps on the site to correct this problem up until the reformatiing part except I tried to update the driver software but Windows says that it encounters an error when trying to install the new software.
So after going through the steps I noticed that the iPod I just bought was formatted for Mac. It says that in order for me to reformat, I have to restore my iPod in iTunes but since it isn't recognized my my computer or iTunes, I can't do it.
    Suggestions anyone?

  • After restoring my iPod Nano it won't reset.

Recently I had some trouble with my iPod Nano (4th Generation) where whenever I plugged it in iTunes would freeze and my computer would be unable to access the iPod or unplug it. This occurred after updating iTunes and then restarting my computer while the iPod was still plugged in, for whatever reason my computer would not log out with the iPod still plugged in so I had to remove it physically. When I tried plugging it back in the computer would not restart until I had removed it again. After all this whenever I tried plugging it in iTunes would freeze and stop responding and I Windows would not let me access it. After reading some articles, reinstalling iTunes and rebuilding my library I eventually managed to get the iPod connected by putting it in disk mode and then connecting it to my computer. With that done I then proceeded to try restoring the iPod. This appeared to work but I think I removed prematurely when it appeared that it wasn't going to get past the apple logo. I tried again and got it back into disk mode and tried restoring it again. This time I have left it plugged in with iTunes open but it still won't go past the apple logo and it has been like that for at least 30 minutes. Is it still recoverable?

I have the same problem and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I rebuilt my iTunes library and still my 6G nano crahes whenever I load an AAC tune onto it.  MP3s and podcasts all work fine, it's just the AACs...
Just *loading* an AAC song will cause the Nano 6G to reboot as soon as it disconnects from Itunes. It will then reboot a few times and then go into recovery mode. :-(

  • I upgraded to itunes 10.6 and I can't manually sunc to my ipod nano 5th gen anymore. I have re-installed itunes, restored my ipod and tried it dozens of times

I upgraded to itunes 10.6 and with that "upgrade" I can't manually sunc to my ipod nano 5th gen anymore. I have re-installed itunes, restored my ipod, tried syncing under another users account and everything else I can think of. It syncs ok upon initial start-up but then when I tryp to select podcasts or music to sync to it, itunes crashes. Now that I restored my ipod, I can't even get my old podcasts much less add new ones.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

  • I have an iPod nano 1st gen. my system operative is windows vista . I just want to transfer all the music of my iPod to iTunes library like I was able to do it in the past I don't know what have change?

I have an iPod nano 1st gen. my system operative is windows vista . I just want to transfer all the music of my iPod to iTunes library like I was able to do it in the past I don't know what have change?

Thank you deggie to answer me . You know, I don't know much of computers and of technology but when I bought that ipod back when  they came out 2005 I was able to download music from my CDs and from Youtube to itunes then transfer to my ipod and back and forth to itunes .  Then if I had changed of computer I was able to transfer to that new computer. Why I'm not able to do it ? There is a program(Sharepod) that allow to do that but it cost $35.00 but I thought that was free or it is because that now I have to buy from itunes only?

  • Ipod nano not charging or being recognized by windows

    have windows xp pro
cannot get ipod nano to charge or be recognized by windows
left it connected for the past couple hours
had to get a 2.0 usb pci card, other things are connected and working in the new card, its connected directly to the card

Ok go ahead and try and reset the ipod while it is plugged into the card you have for usb 2.0. You reset the ipod by moving the hold switch on top of the ipod a couple of times until it is white. Once you have done that go ahead and hold down the menu and the center select button for 6-10 seconds until you see the apple logo. After you see the apple logo let go of the buttons and see if the ipod is showing up.
Another thing you could try is taking the ipod to another computer and see if it shows up on that computer.
Also remove any other usb devices from the computer except the mouse and the keyboard.
If you still have this problem type in on the support web site msconfig and try that. If none of these steps help you take the ipod to the nearest apple store, or contact technical support and have the ipod sent in for repair.
