Z 10 - Backup again
I wrote some days ago similar message.
My Z!10 works properly with mail, the sync with Blackberry link is correct both via USB and wifi.
The problem is the backup, always the same yellow advise that states 'Backup is not complete'
I received suggestions from this forum but unfortunately didn't worked. (back not personalized and not enable power saving for USB).
I called Vodafone that replied (actually they are right) that from their side everything is working properly.
I hope to receive other ideas with this topic

UPDATED to 5.0
Turned on Ipad
Selected "Restore Ipad", says its going to take 2 hours
Computer basically went to 0gb after an hour. which I dont know why it was trying to backup AGAIN for.
Itunes says restored failed. nothing on the Ipad, still on the "Connect to Itunes" screen. So I unplug n plug again. And it syncs n backsup for like 3 minutes.
I press restore again, it asks to restore to my 12:00midnight BACKUP?!?! not my 930 BACKUP?
Don't see any other option than just to do that one. It restores in about 2 minutes and I'm finally at the homescreen. NOTHING AT ALL except the apps that got synced.
Now I worry all is lost because now my computer says around 6gb free. What happend to my only having 1gb free after my 8 gb backup/sync?
Is there a way to restore from my wanted/initial/previous backup with all my photos n videos and everything??It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

TM Did a FULL backup AGAIN today...
Got rid of my WD HD (from the Apple Store) as it kept freezing my MBPro w/10.5.1 & would no longer finish a backup. Bought a new LaCie @ Apple Store yesterday and first BU w/TM took 1 hour for 30 GB.
Today after a few short multi-minute TM backups, I used Pacifist to put iPhoto back on the MBPro, and TM then did a FULL backup of 30 GB which took another hour, just like yesterday.
1. Is there some known reason for this?
2. Can this be prevented?
3. Can you manually access the data off of a corrupted HD (possibly like my WD which would get in an endless loop with TM). Attempting to copy files or folders off a TM set said I didn't have sufficient privileges, in spite of me signing in as root.
Without the ability to wind up recovering usable files manually (with HD damage), I have some doubts about Time Machine.It indeed appears that "Error: (-8088)" on iPhoto.app is at the heart of the problem in 3-4 notes in the log. Subsequent backups (maybe after the Software Update ran) did not note any further errors. I also saw a Windows TT font & some Windows files give an error once, so I deleted those files, even though subsequent backups did not show the error again.
The following is the "-8088" error regarding iPhoto:

That seems to imply that the extraction and install of iPhoto changed the volume identification.
I considered deleting the backup, and see what happens, though that might trigger another FULL backup, so I'll leave it. I do not think I can identify what went on with the prior Western Digital HD faults, however, as there is no console log going back to those dates for some reason.

What happened? I thought Apple had fixed this problem. The last few months, backing up and syncing is taking forever again on my 3G iPhone!
Any idea's?Do you use the Facebook app? Users have reported that causes this issue due to a bloated app cache. Deleting and re-installing the app corrects the issue.

I installed 5.7, ran ok for a while. Then it gave the error message that the preview cache was bad. A few times I have gotten this message and it restarts and repairs it. But now it couldn't. Renamed the Lightroom 5 catalog with the name "Lightroom 5_ANDERS-OFFICE8_Mar-15-230042-2015_Conflict". I got a backup and ran with that, and after a few days it happened again. It cannot repair and read the cache and shuts down.
What should I do? I can probably go to a backup again, but I keep losing work. I now backup every day.
But I need the system to be stable.
This is Windows 8.1. Lots of RAM and disk space.The catalog isn't the problem, but rather that preview file. Use Windows Explorer or Finder (depending on your operating system) to browse to the folder that contains your catalog. Locate and delete the folder that has the extension .lrdata. Then you should be able to start Lightroom normally and it will begin generating a new cache file.

How can I make my Time Machine backup copy-able again?
Because one of my Time Machine hard drives failed catastrophically, I bought a replaceemnt disk and tried to copy the Backups from my second TM hard drive as a starting point for the new drive.
The copy failed: "A075BE7D-541F-4AA8-80D6-E5E42DD9B198"cannot be converted. Please install newer version of iWork.
The 2nd error message was The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8062).
The 3rd error message was: The operation can't be completed because you don't have permisssion to access some of the items.
These last two messages were repeated a few times.
Finally, this error message appeared: The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003).
The copy then terminated.
Some additional points are:
There is only one user on this computer.
My copy of iWork is 4.3, which is the latest on the App store (certainly for Pages).
I am running OS X 10.8.4
I gave up trying to retain the Time Machine history on my new TM drive and used it as a new empty TM backup. So, at this stage I have one old 1TB backup drive with reasonable history and one brand new 3 TB backup. A week later I purchased another 3TB drive. Knowing that I couldn't copy from the old 1TB drive, I tried from the newer 3TB drive. It failed the same way. So the problem is not one of an old corrupted backup; it's new and repeatable.
Using terminal, I searched my TM backup for the file named above (using "sudo ls -aR | grep A075BE7D"). Here's my output:

Some web searching leads me to understand that these files are created under some (or all?) circumstances for Pages documents stored in iCloud. The names of the files above tell me this is part of Mountain Lion's version management system.
My question is: how can I safely get rid of the files above or in some other way make my TM backup copyable? I am also concerned that if I can't copy the backup, I may not be able to use it as a backup or as a way to migrate to a new machine.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That does get damaged on occasion. I haven't seen it in quite a while, so it's pretty rare.
You can delete it from the backups, via the TM interface, but you must be able to show invisible items).
First, open the Terminal app (in your Applications/Utilities folder). Be very careful with this app. It's a direct link into UNIX, the underpinnings of OSX, but without the protections of OSX.
In Terminal, the prompt looks like this: <Computer Name>:~ <your name>$
(where <your name> is your short user name). It's followed by a non-blinking block cursor.
Copy, do not type, the following after the prompt:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1
and press Return.
You should just see the prompt again.
Then see Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #12 to delete all the backups of it.

Yes. You will, of course, lose all previous versions, but since the file is corrupted, you may have lost some, most, or all of them already.
When done, run the same command to hide the invisible items, but replace the "1" with a zero. -
FIX the long backups, not disable them. Solution is here!
NOTE: This process was performed on an iPod Touch 2.0.2 with iTunes 7.7.1.11 on a PC running Windows XP. The process is the same (or similar) for the iPhone.
+*My backups used to take 4 hours. Now they take just minutes, even with 40+ apps*+ installed including large apps like Texas Hold 'em, Brain Challenge, and Vay. No, I am not exaggerating. A fresh sync generally takes no more than 5 minutes from the time I plug my iPod in to the time I disconnect.
I do not guarantee this process will work for you. I can't do that. But it has worked for a lot of other people. This fix is an adaptation from geauxracerx's solution posted here. Read what others have said. I do not take credit for the solution, but I added in a few steps and gave a little more detailed info to fill in the blanks, fix problems and answer the questions I ran into when following geauxracerx's instructions.
Extraordinary long backups are caused by an error when an app (or apps) was installed or updated, particularly if you have ever installed or updated using the App Store on the device itself rather than iTunes. Even if you were never aware that there was a problem, they can arise and will cause problems with the backup process. Maybe you did have a problem during an update or install. Maybe the update stalled, or the App Store crashed. These issues are very likely what have been causing your long backups and you didn't even know it. During the backup process these errors cause it to drag and pause for a very long time before it gets moving again. From your view, you just see a normal backup that is taking hours, and undoubtedly annoying you to no end. On the inside, iTunes is trying desperately to get past a roadblock that it doesn't know where it came from.
This is how to fix the problem. *This is not a quick fix, but it is an effective fix. And it is a FIX, not a band aid.* Depending on how many apps you have installed, this can take several hours to complete. *You will also lose all game scores and any other data stored in your apps.* You will be starting fresh. It is an inconvenience, but in the end, you will be rewarded with quick, efficient backups, the way Apple intended. And you will never have to dread the
iTunes backup again.
The Process:
1. Open iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Syncing and remove all previous backups. Also click "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods"
2. In your system file structure, locate the backup files for iTunes.
On Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
On a Mac: Users/YOURACCOUNT/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Delete ALL files and folders inside the Backup folder.
3. Plug in iPod. On the Applications tab, uncheck sync apps. Click sync. This will remove all apps on your iPod, it will also backup the ipod. This backup will be very fast, and will recreate the backup folders you deleted in
step 2.
4. If there are any apps left on your ipod, touch and hold the icon until it starts to wiggle, then touch the X to delete the app. Delete all apps left on your ipod. Then sync again.
5. After the sync is complete, disconnect the iPod and do a hard restart by holding down the sleep/power button until the slider appears, slide to power off. Wait 5 seconds and push the power button again and wait for the ipod to boot up.
6. Now begin adding apps back to your ipod one by one. On the Applications tab, click "Sync applications" AND "Selected applications".
7. Click one app and sync. After the sync is complete, right click on your ipod under Devices in the left column of iTunes. Click "Back Up" and allow the backup to complete.
8. Repeat step 7 for each app you want to install. Be sure to backup after each install. As you add more and more apps, the backup will take longer and longer as the process scans apps for changes. An initial backup can also be long for a particularly large application. However, ONLY the initial backup after you install an app will take a long time. Subsequent backups are very quick. Even these "long" backups are just minutes long, sometimes up to 15 minutes in my experience.
9. When you are finished installing and backing up all apps, go to Edit>Preferences>Syncing and enable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods.
10. Unplug and plug your device back in just for kicks. Let it back up and sync. Better?
Notes:
The very first time an application is backed up, all critical data is written to your hard drive. This is why the backups are so long the first time. Afterward, only data changes are written, so backups are much shorter.
Backup times will continue to vary based on how many apps were altered since the last sync. If you've used one app since the last backup, your backup will be very short. If you've used 20 apps, the backup will be longer. But you will be rid of the dreaded hour (or more) long backup, that is a promise.
Now that your apps are installed and backing up correctly, the number one rule is to *never, ever install or update apps through the App Store on the iPod*. ONLY install and update through iTunes, and backup after every install or update. The App Store on the iPod is still unstable and can cause lock ups, crashes and freezes. And it is the culprit in these long backup times. Avoid it until the bugs are ironed out.
Also, do not be tempted to disable backups using programs or code edits available online. Your backups are crucial in the event of a restore. Backups contain all of your personal data like game scores, notes, icon arrangement, application data, etc. And it's not a matter of if you'll have to restore one day, it's when, and you'll be glad you have a backup when you do.Thanks for your reply, the trackpad is 9 months old, but it was a christmas present so I dont have the receipt.

I have read through over 10 pages of people with the same problem as mine here on the support site, the only variable is different solutions
work for some people, and nothing works for others.
I found turning my iPhone off fixed the problem for 2 days!!
Most people seem to only have the issue with Mavericks, and a few suffered with the Lions.
The movies are playing fine, they just keep pausing and playing continuously from phantom clicks.
Its got so bad now, I dont even have enough control to restart the machine!
I would simply chance buying a new trackpad... but after I received a phantom click about 20 seconds AFTER the pad was switched off, I dont wanna go throwing more money at this needlessly.
I wish Apple would take these sort of things seriously, if I cant get this sorted in a week, Im gonna have to either upgrade my Macbook to Mavericks (which I did before, then spent 2 days reverting back to Snow Leopard)
Or im gonna have to buy a PC and Cubase!
If any one at Apple is reading this (I do believe I just heard an echo!) Some of us rely on your equipment for work, and we do seem to pay a very big premium just for the privilege of the little white logo.
Is there any chance you could show your existing users a hint of respect or common courtesy by taking these issues seriously?

Time Machine not showing backups
Time Machine stopped backing up earlier this month and I have done numerous things to get backups again. Yesterday after upgrading memory on my iMac, not as a fix for Time Machine, I restarted Time Machine and it appeared to be backing up just fine. This morning when I looked at Time Machine preferences it does not display oldest or latest backup and when I open disk it shows 2015-01-24-083208.inProgress and if you look inside package it appears to have backups all the way back to when I started Time Machine back up. I have reformatted the drive during the process of trying to get backups working again and run disk utility and drive checks out fine. When it does a backup it shows progress bar and when complete tells when next backup is. I browsed through the folders in the 2015-01-24-083208.inProgress package and they do appear to be complete backups.

Can't delete old backup - says it is in use
I just replaced my iPhone 4 with a 6 (yay!). I loaded the 4 iCloud backup onto the 6 (two days ago) and now the 6 is backing up as a separate phone backup on iCloud. I want to delete the old backup. However, when I try to delete the old 4 backup it says that it is currently in use restoring a phone and can't be deleted.

Hi all,
My computer had been running really slowly for a while, so I decided to erase the whole hard drive and reinstall the operating system, and then I was going to restore the files I cared about from Time Machine. The main account, which had all my documents and photos, was FileVault-protected. The last thing I did before erasing the hard drive was to run one last Time Machine backup. As far as I remember, I always ran Time Machine backups with the FileVaulted user logged in.
I don't remember whether I was using FileVault 1 or 2. I had been using FileVault 1, but I installed Lion as soon as it came out and I thought I had migrated to FileVault 2 at that point.
Once I erased the hard drive and reinstalled the operating system, I browsed the Time Machine disk and, within the Users folder, there was no folder for the main user account. When I tried to reinstall everything by restoring from Time Machine backup, I'd get the option for all the user accounts, but when I tried to log in with the main one I'd get the dreaded "You are unable to log in to the FileVault user account "User" at this time. Log in failed because an error occurred." Finally, when attempting to restore from the Time Machine backup again, I noticed something strange: After the computer got to about 10% done restoring, it declared itself completed successfully and rebooted.
I've tried a number of tips that came up from questions about similar issues on the Apple support forum, but had no luck. Is there any way to get these files back? Did they ever even get backed up?

I can't find it! not sure what's going on but the only folder shown is the " Shared" folder.
Did you have only the one user account? If there were others, they should also be in the "Users" folder. You probably won't have access to the files inside them, but they should be there.
From what can make out, it looks like it's not backed up any of the files for the filevault account. Can't see user folder when looking through previous backups in Time Machine galaxy view.
Are you doing that from a Finder window set to your internal HD, or your computer name? It should look something like this (with the Finder in List view):

I'd been logging out and backing up manually on a regular basis.
Scheduled backups should run normally; but they won't back up the File Vault sparse bundle, nor will any run manually.
The only time it's backed-up is when you actually log out.
You should have seen this window on logout:

If you didn't see the second one, or cancelled it, the account wasn't backed-up. -

thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this, but, my iTunes will perform a backup on my iPhone ONCE. By which I mean, it will do another new backup again if I want it to, and that's all fine... but it's supposed to hold (I think) THREE states of backup that the user has saved at various points in order that the user can choose and rollback/restore from whichever one they want.
There is none of that. I get the drop-down menu if I choose to restore... but it's pointless as there's only ever one option.
At the moment, no matter how close together I perform the backups, or how far apart... I get ONE backup saved in my iTunes.
As far as I can tell this is also ONE backup between iCloud or the computer. i.e. I don't get one for each. Just whichever I performed most recently.
iTunes absolutely DID NOT used to do this. I used to get the three options and it took a little bit of a wait for the backup process to go through fully.
Can anybody help or shed some light on this?
As a sidenote: It's slightly concerning that the backup process it performs is now lightning quick and it almost seems as if it's doing nothing, when in fact my iPhone is absolutely, irresponsibly rammed with everything... hence the worrying need for backups and solving this issue etc. etc.
Please can anyone help me with this, or even give a little support?
P.S. Yes, I fully anticipate being told not to have my iPhone so stuffed etc. etc. It's got about 1-2gb free and I figure you should get to use what you pay for
Thank you so much in advance.I have to say, this is so weird because it's actually become this way in the past week maybe, and I'm sure me saying this here will be disputed, ridiculed and belittled, and that's absolutely fair, but I've got to say it... up until a few days ago, my iTunes sync/backup area really would keep more than one backup for my one, single iPhone. They were all timed and dated with a drop-down menu (which appeared if I clicked the restore button) to choose which one I wanted to roll back to, for example. Sure, I'd read about the three backups thing etc. etc. and perhaps I got that wrong or misunderstood, but I can honestly say, I only ever had at the most two backups, that I could drop-down and choose to restore from. They were there. Same iPhone. Different dates.
At the time, when this seemed to be the case, the backing-up process took quite a while. I would leave it to progress while I went and made a cup of tea, come back and it still wasn't finished running. So, not really AGES, but a little while.
Now, when I perform a backup, the progress bar almost shoots across to a finish. I'll 'fess up... that worries me most of all. I can live without the luxury of a menu of backups... but if it does it once, I'd like to be sure it does it at all.
Much more importantly though, thank you for your replies so far.
Any further input, even if it's to belittle or shame is totally welcome. I'd like to understand this a bit more.

When I go to my backup and Restore and check the job status it tells me there is a backup in progress:

Did you delete a old search application and recreate a new one before?
If so, maybe the old object is still existing in SQL, you can used the following stsadm command:
Stsadm -o deleteconfigurationobject -id “object GUID”
To find the object GUID, simply go into Central Admin - Manage Service Applications and highlight the offending legacy service application (Search Service
Application in the case). You should now be able to see the GUID in the IE address bar. Run the command above, and try your backups again and all should be well.

How can I close my Time Machine Sparsebundle so Time Capsule can do a scheduled backup?
"Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Your Time Capsule". The backup disk image “/Volumes/Steven Weinberg's Time Caps-1/Steven Weinberg’s MacBook Pro (4).sparsebundle” is already in use."
I have both a Time Capsule and a 2Tb external drive using Time Machine to back up my laptop.
Is it as simple as when the Time Capsule goes to do a backup and finds that the other drive is in the midst of using Time Machine to do its backup that I get this notice on my desktop?
It's 10:30 AM now. The last Time Capsule backup was almost 12 hours ago.
There have already been 6 Time Machine backups today on the 2nd drive.
Sounds like the Time Capsule really is being blocked from doing its job.
THe 1 Tb Time Capsule backs up to a .sparsebundle document which fills the Time Capsule at 985 Gb. You can't open and peek inside the .sparsebundle backup file.
The other drive backs up to a .backupdb folder within which are subfolders for each backup which appears to be a complete recreation of thebacked-up 500 Gb hard drive on my MacBook Pro laptop. And even though there are 37 separate folders with backups going back to Sept 2013 when I installed the second backup drive, it's only used about 500 Gb of its 2 Tb capacity.
1. How can I solve my primary problem of freeing up the .sparsebundle file for the Time Capsule?
2. Since both drives are using Time Machine to do the backup, why are they producing such diffrent backup file structures?

That does get damaged on occasion. I haven't seen it in quite a while, so it's pretty rare.
You can delete it from the backups, via the TM interface, but you must be able to show invisible items).
First, open the Terminal app (in your Applications/Utilities folder). Be very careful with this app. It's a direct link into UNIX, the underpinnings of OSX, but without the protections of OSX.
In Terminal, the prompt looks like this: <Computer Name>:~ <your name>$
(where <your name> is your short user name). It's followed by a non-blinking block cursor.
Copy, do not type, the following after the prompt:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1
and press Return.
You should just see the prompt again.
Then see Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #12 to delete all the backups of it.

Yes. You will, of course, lose all previous versions, but since the file is corrupted, you may have lost some, most, or all of them already.
When done, run the same command to hide the invisible items, but replace the "1" with a zero.
