Z-Wave Interrupted by Smart Meter (ZigBee Technology)

Hi Digitial Life Community I am a current Digital Life customer and have been really happy with my service.  Something unexpected happened and want to know if any of you have had this same problem.  I have 4 Z-Wave devices (Smart Plug, Door Lock, Front Porch Light, and Thermostat) that allow me to adjust settings from my phone or computer.  About a month ago these devices continually went offline and it took two technicans and many, many hours to finally figure out the problem:  My next door neighbor just installed a Smart Meter which uses ZigBee technology and interfers with all of the Z-Wave devices.  So I have two options:  1) To move DLC box further away from my neighbors Smart Meter OR 2) Remove Z-Wave devices from system so they will no longer send offline notices.  At this point, I have chosen option 2 because I want to investigate this matter further.  I don't wont to continue moving DLC box everytime a different neighbor installs a Smart Meter. Smart Meters are becoming more popular and this problem will continue to increase if not addressed by AT&T.  My technican said that he has never run into this problem before and was not sure how it would be handled.  I would appreciate any comments.
Thank you,mg

MG, It sounds to me like maybe your tech is blaming the location because he can't figure out what's causing the problem.  I've found that many of the field techs have a limited ability to troubleshoot some of the more complicated technical problems and often result to basic things they can easily do themselves (such as moving the DLC) because their internal escalation process can be lengthy.  I had a tech at my house for nearly 4 hours to fix a problem with my pan and zoom camera.  The field tech only had limited troubleshooting tools and spent a ton of time messing around with the camera while he waited for the issue to be escalated internally.  When he finally go ahold of the escalation tech it took just a few minutes to resolve the problem. The field tech admitted he could have easily resolved the problem if he had been given the same access as the escalation tech. My recommendation would be to call AT&T support and demand that the issue be escalated to an advanced level technician or field supervisor.  Here's a link to the info about ZigBee and Z-Wave:  http://zwaveguide.com/z-wave-vs-zigbee/  in case you want to use that as justifcation for why the field tech's analysis is flawed.  FYI, you will probably have to push to get the case escalated.  It can be painful.  Just be persistent and don't let the phone support agent railroad you into accepting their help or the help of another basic field tech. Good luck! -Ben

At present the SMART METER technology is integrated with SAP ISU through a third party vendor. The idocs are sent to a third party and the readings are downloaded and sent back in idoc segments.

  • Record smart meter programs at contract level

    Hi,
I have a requirement to record somewhere in ISU-CCS and SAP CRM the smart meter programs a residential customer has enrolled into with the start and end dates for a particular utility contract. There could be more than one programs associated with a utility contract at one time. Please advise.
    Thanks
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
I can speak for ISU-CCS - you might have various options, e.g.
    - business partner contact (informational only, higher than contract level)
    - installation facts (for the current contract),
    - rate category (and rate determination - for the current contract)
as well as a Ztable to store enrollment/ deenrollment of various smart meter treatments for accounts.
    Regards,
    Tom

  • Missing wave source with smart recorder

' Hello . I have a problem with my smart recorder . With xp i had the option to choose "wave" as my source for recording .
Now with vista 64 this option is gone . I can choose the option "what u can hear" but the kwality is not the same anymore.
Is it normal this feature is gone with vista . I have a x-fi extreme music card and the latest drivers .

Are you recording to losless wave or directly to lossy mp3/wma/etc.
    Some 'general' limitations
    Wav format: ----------------------------------------------------------------------
The WAV format is limited to files that are less than 4 GB in size, due to its use of a 32 bit unsigned integer to record the file size header (some programs limit the file size to 2 GiB). Although this is equivalent to about 6.6 hours of CD-quality audio (44. kHz, 6-bit stereo), it is sometimes necessary to go over this limit.
The W64 format was therefore created for use in Sound Forge. Its 64-bit header allows for much longer recording times. This format can be converted using the libsndfile library. The RF64 format specified by the European Broadcasting Union has also been created to solve this problem.
    (source: Wikipedia)
    Filesystem: ----------------------------------------------------------------------
NTFS5 - Limit Only by Volume Size
NTFS - Limit Only by Volume Size
    FAT32 - 4GB minus 2 Bytes
FAT6 - 2GB (Limit Only by Volume Size)
FAT2 - 6MB (Limit Only by Volume Size)
    (source: http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm)
Maybe your recording software has some limitations too.

  • Has anyone had a problem with their imac because the power company installed a smart meter which broadcasts the readings to the company?

Has anyone had a problem with their imac after the power company--in my case Pepco in Washington DC--installed "smart meters" which read the meter and transmit the data via wireless?  I've had trouble and when I move the imac downstair it disappears. Help!

    barryfromwashington wrote:
would putting up a metal shield by the meter help?
It might, as long as the shield is grounded. Metallic (such as copper) window screen is often sufficient.
As mentioned, it would not hurt to file a complaint. The burden of proper shielding should probably belong to Pepco. Among other things, the FCC frowns upon RF leakage and its interfereing with radio communications. Besides, Pepco probably would not want you to affix a shield around their gear - liability issues, etc.
You could experiment by temporarily hanging a shield-screen on the inside of the wall, behind where the meter transmitter device is located, and see if there is any beneficial change.

SMART is a technology that monitors the drive for signs of impending failure. You can verify that SMART is indicating a problem in Disk Utility. Select the hard drive and look at the bottom of the window. It should look like this:
If the SMART status is not "Verified" then you should back up your drive and start shopping for a new one.

  • Regarding levels and the wav

I'm getting satisfactory results from my recordings, but i do have a question about the relationship of the level meters and the amplitude of the wav in the track view. Not sure if my terminology is correct, but should the size or boldness of my wav matter if the meter is registering a strong input level without clipping.
Obviously if I increase my output my wav becomes larger and gets smaller as I back off the level alittle after I record.
How big or small should the wav be to achieve optimum results or does it not matter as long as my input level just hits the red without clipping.
    Thanks in advance

Well yes but I'd make 2 suggestions:
    1. how does it sound? If it sounds good don't worry too much about how GB represents the waveform
    2. Use a metering plugin to get a measurement of loudness. I like Destroy FX' RMS Buddy (free - google it).
Also if your used to commercial loudness in music and radio - your recording won't be as loud without adding compression and limiting. That's good and bad. Good because commrecial recording tend to take loudness too far these days but bad because your's doesn't sound as loud.
    Good luck

  • HP Smart Media

With its overhead and redundant features, why use HP Smart Media over Windows and other options? My details are: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC Product #: NV023UA#ABA Model: dv7-2185dx. I'm operating Windows 7 under 64-bit.

iTunes downloaded files are AAC encrypted mp4 files which allows them to be played solely on ipods, iphones, razrs, slvrs, rokrs and computers with itunes (provided they are authorized, of course.) The workaround is to use iTunes to burn an audio CD then rip them, you will end up with a substantially larger .wav file, but smart media should recognize the format.
    Hope this helps!

  • ITunes download to HP Smart Media

We purchased music from ITunes and we download to Smart Media for a slideshow.  The only problem is that Smart Media will not read the music.  We also have downloaded music from a CD into ITune library, and then download into Smart Media, and Smart Media is able to read. So there must be a setting issue that is not allowing Smart Media to read the ITunes music

  • Smart playlist and podcasts

I have a 160gb iPod classic. I would like to listen to my podcasts like I do my music, one right after another. I made a smart playlist for my podcasts, right clicked it to copy to play order and synced my iPod. The smart playlist is in iTunes, nowhere to be found on my iPod.
    Anybody have any suggestions?

@woodp Interesting approach. I guess I never noticed a Podcasts Smart Playlist as you describe it.
In my testing when I had the Automatically include option selected, none of the selected playlists from the Include Episodes from Playlists section synced, while all of the episodes from the Automatically include option did. It may be that the rules of your Netcast Smart Playlist were transferred and your iPod is evaluating those rules on the content that was transferred from the Automatically include option.
As I've always seen it, Smart Playlists provide much more control over the content that I sync with my iPod. First I have way more podcast episodes than will fit on my iPod, or any iPod available. There are some combinations available from the Automatically include, but not enough for my tastes.
As an example, I want the most recently added unplayed episodes for some podcasts, like news podcasts. At the same time I want the least recently unplayed episodes of other podcasts, like audio dramas I'm trying to catch up on. Some times I want a playlist of episodes 5 minutes long or less when I'm likely to be interrupted. Smart Playlists allow me to include all of these, and manage the space they take up on my iPod with greater control than previously available from the Podcasts tab of my iPod.
To get around the limitations of the Podcasts tab in iTunes 8, I like most of the people posting here created playlists and synced them through the Music tab. Apple has taken care of this work around and now I manage Music from the Music tab and Podcasts from the Podcasts tab.
I guess the thing that would have made this transition less frustrating would have been if they had taken a couple extra minutes during the demonstration of iTunes 9.0 at the Keynote to show how podcast syncing was improved. Still Steve Jobs did say the day was going to be about Music, and it was.

Hi DS, moving BT Wifi SSID's to another channel is not possible on the HH4. However, we are looking closely at the wi-fi SSID's the hub broadcasts to see whether we can improve this experience.
    7:15
    Dave:
Hi James, 5GHz maximum data transfer rate of 300Mb/s; this will tend to translate as an optimal actual speeds of up to 100 Mb/s - depending on lots of factors in your home

    Emma:
Hi the bennyboy, the main advantages of the hub 4 are the faster processor (3 x faster) and 5 GHz wifi. There is no interference with 5GHz so you get better performance and as the range isn't as wide you dont have to share the bandwidth with neighbours etc. the hub still has 2.4 GHz so you still have the range you have withhub 3 too!
    7:24
    Dave:
Hi Winston, I am afraid there's no simple answer as it really depends on what features are in use. But the Hub 4 meets the latest Broadband Equipment Energy Code of Conduct targets for energy consumption.

    Dave:
Hi Mel - we've made a lot of changes for our existing customers since the launch of the Hub 3 a couple of years ago. Our customer offer for the Hub 4 only £35 - a really big discount compared to the full price of £109! We've also created a range of recontracting deals that contain a Hub 4 for only the cost of delivery. If you're out of contract or in the last 3 months, you could take advantage of those offers as well. We really want all of our customers to be able to take advantage of these options!

Did you know the Hub 4 has a faster processor? Inside the BT Home Hub 4 router is our latest Broadband processor – the brains of your Hub. It allows you to pass information between connected devices quicker than ever. • Config issue in SAP AMI for triggering XML

    Hi,
We have configured the AMI. Also setup the AMI enabled devices.
We have created Meter Reading Orders for the periodic meter reading as bulk .
But the creation of MROs does not trigger creation of XML messages.
We found the Enterprise Service responsible for meter reading order Request Smart Meter Meter Reading Document Creation as Bulk SmartMeterMeterReadingDocumentERPBulkCreateRequest_Out
But the XML messages are not getting generated on MRO creation. Also no XML message generated on AMI enabled device creation.
I could go into SXMB_MONI with date and time stamp to view the XML message,  not able to view the XML.
Is there any thing specific needs to be configured to have the XML message in SXMB_MONI
The process we are following is we are creating periodic meter reads and using the transaction ELMU/EL35 Customized to our needs to trigger the SmartMeterMeterReadingDocumentERPBulkCreateRequest_Out . Are we following the right approach.
Is it the right transcation code to trigger the Enterprise service and what are the parameters to be passed.
    Thanks,
    Vijay.
Edited by: vijay gunti on May 28, 2010 8:50 AM

    hello,
The meter reading process in SAP AMI for bulk order is different then single meter reading order. First step is create meter reading order by Transaction code EL09. It will not create enterprise service. The status of meter reading order will be suppressed when you view status by transaction EL31. After meter reading order creation, run transaction EL35 to download meter reading order. After running this transaction, it will create enterprise service and update meter reading order status to Meter reading request sent. At this stage, meter reading order will move to MDUS system.
Give me shout if you have any questions.
    Thanks

  • Unexpected values at the moment to receive serial data

    Hi,
I've been a time trying to fix this and looking for forums but unfortunately I can't figure out how to solve it. I hope you can help me a bit.
I am working in a project which I have to send some information via ZigBee technology throught the serial port to my computer where there is another ZigBee module connected by serial port to LabView.
The point is that I am able to receive all the data well if I take some long delays and I really need to decrease my delays.
With low delays I receive zero values or even some values really out of range even when in some test I am just sending some fix values to debug it.
I think that it's a problem of synchronization but I don't know how to fix it.
PS: The reason cause I put a switch case even when the programm has to go out of the while when the Bytes at Port are zero, is cause i realise it doesn't. Just a way to be redundant in my goal.
I attached you the .vi file and a picture where it can be seen my problem (it's suppose to receive always some value around -1).
    Thanks a lot for advance.

Can you provide an example of expected data.
How to you determine the start or end of a data transmission?
It appears as though you are expecting to receive floating point numbers as a strings but you have no way of sychronizing to the start or end of a value.

  • HP Envy 7 interment hard drive failure on start up

    Hello,
I have a HP Envy 7 with Windows 7. On start up, I get the "Interment Hard drive failure", I ran the hard drive test and the results were good. I didn't get an error message but the message comes up everytime I restart. Is there a way to turn the smart disk message off or should I get ready to purchase a new hard drive?

    Hi
Can you help me with Product number & the complete model number off you unit. Please find the Link given Here how to find the details.
Most HP Notebook PCs have SMART (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology System) capable hard drives. SMART is firmware that resides on the hard drive and continuously monitors drive parameters such as performance and error rates. SMART uses a technology known as predictive failure analysis to tell you when a hard drive failure is imminent.
Common SMART errors are:Hard disk failure is imminent.
A hard drive in the system reports that it may fail.
Smart failure imminent, back up your data
Error 1720 Imminent Hard Drive Failure
HP Hardware Diagnostic errors that start with HD521
The use of SMART does not prevent all hard drive failures, but it can give you the opportunity to back up your personal files and replace the hard drive before it fails.
Let us know how it goes!
