  • Photo Booth special effect problems?

Whenever I try to take a picture or video with one of the including backdrops my face is seen in little patch but not everything. There seems to be a glitch with the background effect feature.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
the other photo booth effects worked fine.

This really depends on what colours and lighting are in the room behind you. If there's something behind you that look similar to your face, hair, or clothing, then the camera won't be able to tell them apart.
Try different lighting in the room. Failing that, paint the wall! There's a reason why movie studios use a "blue screen" or "green screen" to film scenes with replaced backgrounds.

  • Special effects problem. Can anyone help me?

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 7 and I want to import media into the program from www.detonationfilms.com but when I look for the right effect I need and take it back to adobe premiere elements 7. The pop up says the file is not supported or you need a codec? So if anyone can help me with this problem i thank you very much.

First, ensure that you have extracted the Zip files after you've downloaded them from Detonation. Right-click on the Zip file and select Extract.
You can't use the videos from within the Zip file.
Most of their clips are, I believe, MOV (Quicktime) files -- thought Quicktime files can any of dozens of codecs.
Go to the Apple site and ensure you have the latest version of Quicktime.
If that doesn't work, you'll need to convert these files to DV-AVIs. You can do this using the free Prism conversion program, as described in the FAQs to the right of this forum.

  • Special effects problem in FCP5

I just upgraded to Final cut pro 5 from 4 and for some reason no filters, color correction, invert, blur nor mask work and I have no idea why. When I apply them it neither shows up in realtime or render. Transactions still work thought.

    Trash your FCP preferences.

  • Special Effects Camera Troubles

My camera alone is working fine but my main problem is when I want to use special effects like in Photo Booth. It is either scattered parts of what is in the camera or just black blobs. I have already been to the Genius Bar so I don't know what to do next.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Dallus
The link you post is to an animated "gif" file that has been posted to Apple's web site.
It appears that the gif file is created from several partial screen shots of the Photo Booth application in operation. Macs (including your MacBook Pro) that have built-in iSights include Photo Booth in their bundled software. Look in your Finder > Go > Applications folder.
Image editor applications like PhotoShop or PhotoShop Elements can be used to create and save animated gif files. Neither of these applications are part of your Mac's bundled software.

  • Importing After effects sequences to premier pro with camera and effects

    Hi there,
I'm gonna try n put this across as best as I can. I have made a short film of 6 minutes (in 6 parts on after effects) I have added all the effects and the camera work on AE, but it needs a lot of editing here and there, which I find impossible to do on AE since you can't cut and join scenes like Premier pro. I need to import all these sequences onto premier pro for editing now. The problem is once I import the files, it imports in the right order in systematic folders etc, but it doesn't show any of the camera work or the special effects like gaussian blur etc. All my hard work has gone.
There must be a way you can import the after effects file on premier the way it looks on AE. Can somebody please help me?
Another problem is I read some boards and it has been suggested to edit the clips first on premier and then add effects on AE but I read this really late and I've already composited the whole film on AE. I just need premier for cutting now.
Thanks for any help in advance.
    Cheers,
    Nikhita
P.S: I also thought about exporting the AE sequences as TGA files but there's ZERO space left in my internal hard disk for that, and it would take forever to export them all anyway. Any other kind of export would reduce the original quality which I dont want, and which I dont have space for anyway, so that option is out as well.

Every production house in the world that is working on more than one project uses external storage for their video files. As long as the drive name and path do not change you have no problems.
Lossless or nearly lossless means that. No visible reduction in quality. That's why every production house that knows what they are doing uses production codecs in their workflow. Production codecs range from uncompressed (which very few use) to Avid, Black Magic Design, ProRez and a host of other specialized codecs. Jpeg2000 and png QuickTime can store alpha channels as well as a bunch of other 3rd party codecs.
The way you start loosing quality is to use highly compressed formats like H.264 or MPEG or AVCHD in your production pipeline. It is usually OK to start with these codecs as original footage if the camera you used only offers these options, but any use of a delivery format in the production pipeline for anything but delivery is not a good idea.

  • NEW Iphone os 4: Why is the photo on my home screen a special effect?

My home screen photo is a special effect (x-ray). The problem is actually much bigger..The original set of photos downloaded into my new iphone os4 are ALL special effects! What happened? All the original photos in iphot 09 albums before download are NOT edited with special effects. I tried removing an App called Mega Camera which I thought might be the culprit. I still have the free PS Express installed........ then I restored the phone to original settings. When I downloaded chosen photos after the restore every one looks like a special effect was applied. I am out of solutions . PLEASE HELP. OH BTW the new photos I take with the camera on the phone are also a special effect.

This may help in the future:

  • Style sheets (paragraph and character) not coping Special Effects

Couple of questions about ID CS3. I have been really digging into the guts of the application and can appreciate how powerful it is.
I am having a couple of problems and don't know if it is me or the app.
    1. I can not get a NEW Paragraph or Character Style Sheet to copy the Special Effects (specifically the drop shadow and inner glow).
I have tried both by using the eye dropper, and the highlighting etc but nothing works. What am i missing?
    2. Also, how can I change the Drop Shadow Distance from the default (.1375in) to something else (ie., .05)? Same thing for the Angle. I also want to change the Distance and Angle for the Inner Glow. I looked in Preferences but could not fine them there. I am afraid to ask when do I use them for Object and when for the text....I will figure that one out by playing with it.
    3. And finally, how do I isolate moving an object. Even though the boundary boxes show up that I have a specific object selected, when I put the mouse in there to move it, some object underneath it moves. This is probably some technique I am not doing correctly.
I absolutely love this application and will appreciate any help in the above questions.
    Thanks,
    bob

Hmmmmmm not too sure what you are saying here (faking my way through applying it to a paragraph and anchored objects).
Lets say I have the following:
    Chef Salad
We use the freshest lettuce, tomatoes..... bla bla bla
I wanted the name of the menu item (Chef Salad) to be 30 pt, Times New Roman, Red text (no container fill), drop shadow.
Lets also say I want the description (the Bla bla bla) to be 15 pt, Arial, Green text, and small drop shadow.
From what I understood you to say(write), I would have to make a Object style for Chef Salad (and I guess another Object style for the description)given that I want to use special effects.
What has been one of the more confusing things about ID (and believe me, I have been watching hours and hours of Lynda.com, Youtube, and reading a book/DVD on the subject) is when to use paragraph styles, Character styles and now Object styles.
Changing the parameters on these styles is not (to me) the difficulty. When and where to use a particular style is.
I don't want to keep bugging you so if you have someplace that really gets into the proper place and time to use these styles I will go there (if I haven't been there already).
However, if it is pretty easy for you to elaborate some more, that too would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks Bob
PS Nice looking web site you have.... I am up there viewing it now.

  • Videos and special effects... (?)

Okay I just found these.. they are great! But I was wondering... is anyone else having issues when filming either backlit or in the snow?
My vids are... as best described... "mucky" looking!
Is there not an option to increase the contrast or to 'vivid color' saturate the look?
    Thanks...
===== and for those that do not know about the special effects: =====
Chapter 5 Using the Video Camera page:53
    Recording Video with Special Effects
You can record video with a variety of special effects on iPod nano.
Note: Video effects can only be selected before recording. iPod nano can’t add effects
to or remove effects from recorded videos. You can’t change video effects settings
    while recording.
To record video with special effects:
1 Choose Video Camera from the main menu.
2 Press and hold the Center button to display the video effects palette.
3 Use the Click Wheel to browse the effects, and press the Center button to select one.
The viewfinder screen appears with the selected effect.
4 Press the Center button again to start recording with video effects.
5 Press the Center button to stop recording.
If you exit the Video Camera screen to play back your video, video effects are turned
off. To resume recording with a video effect, repeat steps 2 through 4.

Okay, why am I the only one who couldn't figure out how to get Special Effects with my video camera? The User Manual instructions: see pg 7, which is correct and pg 53-54 seem to be written incompletely; and (as I read them) indicate that with "Video Camera" on the screen, the center black button should be held down, thus providing the choices of Special Effects. WRONG. What does provide the array of Special Effects, is to select Video Camera (with the black center button), opening the lens of the camera. Before recording begins, hold the center black button down until the Special Effects are displayed, THEN select one and begin recording with it by quickly depressing the black center button. To end, again depress the black center button.

  • Special Effects?

So my last computer had system 10.3.9 on it.. And hence didnt have a very new iLife. The iMovie was the old school one with none of this skimming business.
I now have a Macbook Pro with iMovie '08 on it.
Either I'm blind.. but I can't seem to find any inkling of the old (and yes simple) effects of the old iMovie on there. Is this new iMovie just a quick movie maker just for cutting clips and adding a little music, maybe changing the colour?
    I hope not.
My question is: any special effect features apart from transitions.

What you see is what you get.
Is this new iMovie just a quick movie maker just for cutting clips and adding a little music, maybe changing the colour?
Yes, as well as, import newer storage formats (with or without problems) and share directly to YouTube and/or a gallery.
My question is: any special effect features apart from transitions.
No, not in iMovie '08. (No one has figured out how to add third-party effects yet.) You can, of course, download the free iMovie HD (v6.0.4) so as to use both versions on your computer.

  • Unwanted special effects in iMovie 6

Macbook pro OSX 10.6.8  iMovie 6
I know i should upgrade but the newer iMovies are not intuitive and v6 does everything i need it to.
Some unwanted special effects are suddenly appearing in my iMovie 6, flying saucers, fireworks, balloons floating thru, flipping, waving screens.  I think it must be coming from some shareware installation i looked at for some special purpose, maybe masking or subtitles, but i cannot find any on my computer, (except MeditEdit).
Importing directly from my camera, which i frequently do, is totally messed up.
I have thrown away all the preferences i can find but they keep coming back everytime i open the application iMovie.
    Where are they?
    What software installed this?
How do i shut it off or kill it?
    Help.

    Hi
    First
    • trash iMovie pref files - in User library/preferences - You've said You've done that
    • repair permissions - Disk Util tool
Then You can now look into User library/iMovie and here Plug-ins
    • I moved all of them out onto DeskTop/Finder - when iMovie IS NOT running.
    • Now test iMovie
Alt: Start a new User Account
    • Log into this
    • Re-try iMovie
Does it run OK now ?

  • ID CS3 Transparency weirdness with text/special effects

Okay, I was putting together a brochure for my job today and noticed this oddity. I placed a text box w/text over a stock photo and printed it out - everything was fine. Then I added a drop shadow to the text and all of a sudden the photo became rather desaturated.
Just in case this was some sort of weirdness with that particular document, I created a new document, placed several photos on a page, and then created a text box and applied a drop shadow. All the photos on the page again noticeably lost saturation, and here's the weird part, the text box didn't even touch any of the photos. It only appears to affect items on the same page - items on other pages are unaffected.
It seems whenever you have an object or text frame on a page with transparency or a special effect like a drop shadow, all the photos on the page lose about 20% saturation.
Am I missing something that I can compensate for, or is this a bug/feature?

I'm using shadows and transparency overlays in my InDesign CS3 application. When I output that file to a press resolution pdf file, it appears fine. However, when the digital printer runs the project, the transparency disappears and i get white boxes in the place of transparent boxes.
The print provider is a non-offset source and is using some other RIP to process the file. Is the transparency feature posing a problem in the offset invironment?

  • About a Special Effects Request Thread

Do we have any threads for requests on special effects? If not, I believe that would be a great idea.
Some of you may disagree but that's your perception.
It will allow Novices like me to get the feel of things are done when adding our effects.
    What do you all think?

There you all go again. You are misconcieving what just said. Perception is perception that is all there is too it. I wrote and I am pretty clear about what I ask.
Again LaRhonde, No. I am busy and that's it I am busy. I have a son and a fiancee, which means is I can't finish up.
I just got recently sidetracked having to put my 4 year old son into school which is a pain in the rear.
In my community it is a task to put him into school due to the way the Governor runs Louisiana.
Also, again and I don't really care how many years of experience you have or anyone for that matter. Good for you.
Then you said. "there you go right there "referring to me not finishing up as to repoint out that you are correct about your judgement.
Again you are not a psychic. You don't know what I am doing every minute of the day. Also, for the record, I am still doing the tutorials. Just right now other stuff came up.
Secondly, I am new here and I don't like the hospitality that is going on. If any of you are professional as you claim to be, you should be helping me out in a  professional manner.
Mylenium and Andrew Yoole cleared a little bit about helping me and we dropped it.
Let me put this in very lamen terms for you all to understand. I made a request idea for the rest of the community, "not me."
The next time you all see my screen name while I make a request, or a request that is similar to my other posts and you all have the craving to make a judgment reply to my posts. Don't reply to my posts. If you all are going to be helpful next time please be helpful but do so without judging my posts I make, otherwise I DON'T want to hear it!

  • Special effects in 08 imovie?

Just upgraded to 08 imovie only to find no "special video effects" such as Bloom, rain, fog etc etc. Very disappointing. I stopped by Apple store and this was confirmed as well. Are there any add on special effects products out there?

The part you are getting lost on I take it is that in order to import a project into iMovie HD ('06), the necessary video files are copied into a new iMovie project.
Which is why I recommended that anyone doing video editing should be using a secondary drive for storage. As an example, if you have a 160 GB drive, you should try to keep about 24 GBs free for optimum operation. As you have 26 GBs of original data which you are in effect duplicating, then before even starting the "double-import" work flow, you should have 70 MBs of free space available. Sounds like you may have had only 50 MBs or less and that doesn't include whatever disk caching setting you may be using or caching for any and all applications which may be simultaneously open.
You wrongly assume that I would have a spare external drive laying around to do a 26GB transfer.
I make no assumptions here. I am merely stating the fact that if you plan to do video editing, you need both adequate RAM and disk storage space available. If you don't, you are bound to have such problems on a regular basis. With 160-320 MB triple-interface drives available in the $100-$200 range it seems less than productive not to at least consider the purchase of one. (Cheaper drives are available but are probably not the best choice where video capture is involved.)
Besides, do you know how long it takes to do a 26GB transfer?
Can't say as I do on your system. It took me 17 minutes and 32 seconds to transfer 26 GBs while simultaneously compressing a feature film to H.264 (for TV use) and answering these questions.
Instead of all this iMovie '08 to iMovie HD ('06) Tomfoolery, which, in my opinion, is a really big error on Apple's part, I went out and purchased Final Cut Express. I did my basic scene editing in iMovie '08 (which, by the way, it seems to do rather well) and exported the projects to a FCE XML document.
Well, that is one option that I did not previously consider. However, remember that sooner or later if you do any editing in FCE segment/files will likely have to be rendered from the reference source files and this will again start to eat up storage space. Assume you are using FCE v4 here. If not, you may expect to run into some path problems with your XMLs which will likely have to be restored manually.

  • Special Effects in iphoto8

I am going from iphoto5 to 8. Does the new version have a way of creating special effects such as: making an outline - watercolor - blurred picture - etc., like they had in iphoto 5?

It does have an Effects pane with B/W/Sepia/Antique/Fade Color/Boost Color/Matte/Vingette and Blur. The adjust pane is much more advanced than in V5 or V6.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
