Z1 compact killed by magnetic charger?

HI there,i used a magnetic charging cable (no not sony original) to charge my z1 in my car. I accidently changedthe polarity of the charger because it was night and i was in a hurry.I started charging with 30% battery left. After i reached my destination it was almost empty and dead (not charged).I was able to power on the phone and it had 3% akku left. From there on i am not longer able to charge the phone. If i'm pluggin it to the wall charger, the red LED is blinking, but the phone did not charge even over night.I tried hard reset with the red button in the card slot and the power+volume up hard reset. If im plugging the phone to the PC (win7), the PC plays the USB connect sound and 4 seconds later the USB disconnect sound, then again every 4 second the USB disconnect sound. Whats your opinions? Internal charger dead by wrong magneticcharger polarity?Or accu dead by shortcircuet of the magnetic charger? If this is the case, is there a way to change the accu? I would say sony will not give warrenty if a wrong cable is used, but is there a way to repair it instead of buying a new?(Killed a 350€ phone with a 5€ magneticcharger ...). RegardsManu

  • On-The-Go USB and Magnetic Charging Cable simultaneously?

Hi everybody I am new to this forum so thank you in advance for reading!
Has anybody had any experience with using an on-the-go USB connector AND the magnetic charging cable simultaneously on their Xperia Z-series device... and does it work?
I am considering buying the Z3 Tablet Compact when it becomes available to use as a field monitor with my vdslr rig (running the DSLR Controller app) which requires the USB port to be used with an OTG connector wired into my DSLR. I have already successfully used my Galaxy Tab2 10.1 for some time with this but is a little on the big/heavy side and the battery life is poor so it doesn't last too long. The Xperia Z-series having a separate magnetic charge port is suddenly a very tempting option now there will be a lightweight, 8 inch option with a super-fast processor.
BUT it is a lot of money to part with if the two charging ports cannot be utilised simultaneously! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated guys.

All I know from owning one is that it only works when pluged in to a mains socket - I assume it is an amps thing but I'm unable to test this theory - It could also be a monitoring detector in the phone which is able to detect the type of power - Sony themselves have also said it will only work via a mains socket

  • Magnetic charging port and loss of mobile data

I finally decided to switch to Android once I felt the iPhone update was not worth the high price tag. I decided on an Xperia Z3, and so far I have had to replace 2 devices and I am considering returning this one also. The first phone had a dead pixel so this was a quick return and replacement. The second developed problems with the magnetic charging port about 2 months after I received it - for instance in the magnetic charging dock I bought I suddenly had to start propping the phone forwards for it to connect and another magnetic attachment that clips on to the end of the microUSB cable kept connecting and disconnecting. Added to this, it demonstrated the problem I have seen mentioned here and elsewhere with the Z range of phones, in that it will often fail to regain its 3g signal after having lost it however restarting the phone will allow it to reconnect (until it does it again).
I hoped that replacing this phone would finally allow me to enjoy my phone, however right from the beginning it has demonstrated the same signal problem and while the magnetic port is slightly better with the magnetic clip it still wont connect to the charging dock and needs tilting forward slightly for my in-car charger.
I know the chargers are not the problem as my fiancee has the same phone which works perfectly. I don't know whether this is something to do with her buying hers straight from Sony while I got mine from Amazon (directly, not a seller) but I have no idea why that should make a difference to the quality of the handset. Are Sony known for build quality issues with their phones?
I can put up with the magnetic charging port if there is a reliable way of fixing the 3g issue, if anyone can suggest anything I will give it a try. If there isn't anything then I will have to send this phone back and in all likelihood will probably go back to apple

It'll be wise to install or reinstall the latest update with PC Companion (PCC)

  • Broken magnetic charger socket, can't charge laptop.

    Hi everyone,
I've only had my mac for 2 months and already the magnetic charger is broken. I don't know how it happened but it looks like it's been chipped. Is there anyway to fix this DIY style or do I have to take it to a shop?
    Cheers.

2 months?  I would take it to the apple store.  They can usually get you up and running quickly.

  • Magnetic charging port not working

The magnetic charging port in my phone came out with the charger, I sent it back to Sony for repair, and it arrived back today - it looks like a new case has been put on the phone rather than just the port being stuck back, but it now no longer charges using the Sony magnetic charger - is there a setting somewhere to enable it?  I checked the USB cable (which is plugged into the mains) and it charges the phone fine via the usb port, but plug the same cable into the official Sony magnetic charger/phone holder and nothing - this is the same charger and cable that has been charging the phone since last September, I also checked with a third party charger on the same USB cable and that didn't work either.  I prefer using the magentic charging as the usb cover is so flimsy I'm afraid of it breaking off. The phone is running Android 5.0.2 and update says it is up-to-date.

Sorry to hear this but you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care and have your device inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

  • What are the dimensions of the Apple Watch magnetic charger? Is the thickness the same for both the Watch Sport and Watch chargers?

I'm interested in the dimensions of the magnetic charger for both the Watch Sport and Watch. There are a number of third party charger stands out now and was wondering if a charger stand needs to be specific for the Sport or Watch or if any stand will fit accommodate both models.

Just for clarification, the white shown on the US Apple store charger is only a protective coating on the magnetic side so the charger doesn't scratch the watch. The remainder of the charger is polished metal. The Sport charger is entirely white, with no metal showing. The point is the magnetic charger ordered from the Apple store has a different thickness measurement from the magnetic charger that comes with the Watch Sport. This is only an issue for any aftermarket charging stand that expects chargers from both the Apple Watch and the Sport Watch to fit flush with the face of their stand. Only one or the other can fit flush. An option would be to manufacture for the thicker Sport Watch and include a 0.1" spacer for the Watch. This would allow either to fit flush with a stand face.
    I'm done.

  • Takes longer to charge via magnetic charger than USB

I noticed that it takes longer to charge via the magnetic charger than the USB port. Also, with the magnetic, the phone sometimes discharge faster than it's charging.

Ok but where are you connecting the magnetic cable, are you connecting it to a computer or a wall charger, the magnetic cable has to be connected to a wall charger for it work properly, its the same cable that its in the dock and if you check the manual it does specify to connect it to a wall charger

  • Why isn't my magnetic charging port not working

Hi guys and g*rls I have bought a 3rd party battery case which covers the rear of the phone and has a built in battery for emergency charge if I (god forbid) run out of juice when im out and about. The only problem is, is it does not charge the phone, i have contacted the seller regarding this issue and they have sent me a second case to try but this is exactly the same.Is there an option somewhere in the phone where you have to enable magnetic charging? I am starting to think that it is my phone that is at fault as i had to send it off for repair due to the phone turning itsaelf off. perhaps when sony dismantled it a connection could of broken to the magnetic strip? clutchin at straws maybe? Thanks in advance Tony

Does the Dock work? (Sony's dock)

  • Xperia Z2 orange blinking led when connected to magnetic charge cord

Hey guys. I bought this phone off a friend. Its three months old and works great. But the other night I accidentally put the magnetic port on backwards and the phone completely died. I freaked out and tried every key combination possible. I eventually got a red led when I plugged in the microusb port. It turned on in about 10 minutes like normal.
Now, when ever I attach the magnetic cord (properly) I get an orange led blinking and the device doesn't charge at all.
What does the blinking orange led mean? Does warranty cover the magnetic port? Hopefully someone can help me

Hello everyone. I've was having issues with the magnetic charge port on my Z2. It simply did not want to charge the device. It also was heating up when it was charging through USB. Sometimes it wouldn't even charge!
I was trying to get away with living with it until one day the phone turned off and never started back up for about a day.
At this point I knew there was no other choice but to request an RMA to get these issues addressed.
When I phoned in to tell them my issues, I told them specifically "THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE MAGNETIC PORT", "THE PHONE REFUSES TO CHARGE SOMETIMES" and "THE PHONE HEATS UP WHEN CHARGING".
The rep on the other end told me several times he understands the problem and they will all be addressed when it arrives at the repair facility.
So, I packaged the phone up and sent it off to Ontario (shipping cost me $40) and thought that once it comes back it'll work like it should.
This is where I have never been more wrong.
I got the phone back today and opened it up as soon as I could.
First thing I did was try to turn it on. Absolutely nothing. No light, no low battery screen, nothing.
So when I arrived home I plugged the thing into an AC USB charger. The first 10 minutes there was only a red LED and nothing else.
After 10 minutes I was able to see the green battery on the screen.
Another 5 minutes later, I was actually able to power up the phone. It was sitting at 2%.
Which makes me believe that the phone was either left on or COMPLETELY discharged before shipping. Don't these people at the repair facilities know how damaging it is for a battery to be comepletely discharged???
The second and most outrageous thing is the main reason the phone was sent it, wasn't even fixed!!!
I tried plugging into the magnetic port charger (with an aftermarket cord, as well as the dock) and the phone is doing EXACTLY the same thing!!!
In fact, this is an exact quote of what the work order says:
"PHONE IS CHARGING AND IS WORKING GOOD. PLEASE SEND IN USB CABLE AND CHARGER IF PROBLEM P-" <- They didn't even finish the sentence.
"Software Upgrade, Live Call Passed, Quality Control Passed"
I am so totally outraged and disgusted with Sony right now.

  • Charging problem with Z1 after using magnetic charging post charger

Greetings, I have an xPeria Z1 running Android 4.3, build 14.2.A.0.290.All has been working just fine until a few days ago when I connected my charger using the magnetic charging posts on the side of the phone, rather than plugging in the usb cable.   Note: I've charged via this method for over a year with no issues. This time, however, the phone shut off when I connected the charging cable. I could not boot it up again, using any options. The "hard power down" reset button did nothing - the power button with Vol UP or Vol DOWN did nothing.  Using a charging cable plugged into my PC did nothing. Using a car charger did nothing. When I got home, using the factory supplied charger and cable I was finally able to wake up the phone using the Power+Vol UP (I think) option. After finally waking the phone up again I thought all was well. However, when charging the phone, when it gets to the point that the battery is fully charged (or close to it), the screen comes on, all by itself. It stays lit for a minute or so, then turns off for a few seconds, and then comes back on again.  This repeats constantly.  I tried powering the phone off and unplugging the charger. After doing that, the screen still turns itself on, showing just the SONY logo. That stays on for a few seconds, then goes off, and then that process repeats.  SONY...off.... SONY.... off... SONY... off....  when the phone is OFF. The only way to stop this is to use the little reset button on the phone.   I don't know if the charging cable somehow messed up the battery or other hardware, or if it messed up something in the software. I suspect I'll have to re-flash the ROM, but I'm hoping to avoid this.  Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill

actually, my old black z1 have exactly same problem with you...i don't know if this happend to you to...but in my problem, i put the magnetic charger in the wrong way...then the problem came out exactly same like you...maybe someone put the magnetic charger in your z1 wrong way...i try to repair using PC Compinion but not helping...factory reset, nothing happend...finally i took my phone to repair and they give me the new one...but this time my z1 is white

  • Magnetic charger and call - how to disable speaker default?

When charging with magnetic cord, calls are, by default, on a speaker.
    How to disable speaker selection???

    Hi,
This can't be disabled. When the phone is charging via the magnetic charging dock and you answer a call, the loudspeaker will be enabled. But once you remove the phone from it, the sound will automatically go via the ear speaker. It's not meant that you should lift up the whole charging station for answering a call.

  • Xperia Z2 magnetic charging problem

My Sony Xperia Z2 magnetic charging with the docking station worked fine for the first 3 weeks but the last todays i get the next problem:

    Solutions??

The dokcing station worked fine in the first 2-3 weeks without this problem and the next test for me was to turn te smartphone off and try to charge it the result was : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rem9Oi4Wiiw 4-5 seconds charging this time with powerbutton and volume button option and in the first video  it was from second to second with the charge (blink) problem..

  • Magnetic charging cable

I hate having to fiddle about inserting micro usb to charge my Z3, and was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent magnetic charging cable about 1.5 to 2 meter in length, as can't see them on sony website, just the docking station, which won't work with my flip case

It maybe so that it takes longer, but honestly, I don't even notice it. In reality, I'm using a 1A charger instead of the supplied 1.5A charger. Works well for me. Love these adapters though.
My only complaint about the magnetic bit is that it could have been designed better. I have one in my head that it's simple and easy... probably won't cost them anything to change it either. No extra material.
