Z1 Kitkat .757 why much more

Even with the latest software available, sony still manages to screw things up. Still so many problems with the software and some kitkat features are not present on xperia's skin over android.
The "K" in androids easter egg that we so love is replaced with a "1" which doesn't make sense... Maybe because of Z1? So if it were a Z2 it'd be 2? And that ugly notification panel where the quick settings is more likely to be dragged down than the notification tab itself...and that black and white effect on the notification panel doesn't look good at all. Why? Xperia phones doesn't use AMOLED displays so it actually looks bad because the black areas are still lit up. Maybe sticking to their dark grayish theme with a bit of there tricks would have done it.
Still no improvements to there Xperia home, still tends to be leggy and takes time loading up widgets maybe at least 3 to 4 seconds.
Battery drain is also a major problem because sony's powersaver app does not reduce cpu usage. They should put that there because Z1 is using a very powerful mobile chip which tends to overheat, so reducing it's clock speed would help reduce overheating and save battery.
Kitkat was suppose to bea lightweight update but with sony's tweaks it made it even worse... My benchmark scores went down from 34 to 35k on previous version to 30,31k.
The kitkat home concept where Google now is on the left end side, and on other brands like HTC one m8 or s5 both running kitkat and has the same concept but with their own apps on the left end side of their homescreen. Of-course I love android, and I love sony, so technically I would love to see that on Sony's homescreen running kitkat. Again, sony removing all the small things on android that basically makes it an android device and adding or removing and basically doing things their way and not the android way.
I kinda expected more from Sony of fully integrating the android "xperience" to their phones because it's on their site saying "Xperia and android the perfect match" stuff like that... But it's kinda disappointing because Xperia phones is not that fully integrated with android's features. Like on there jellybean is, jellybean should have that 2nd notification panel, but on Sony's version it has none but instead that ugly packed in type quick settings on top.
Some other kitkat bugs.
Volume or audio bug
Performance
Battery
App compatibility(some of my apps tends to hang or crash sometimes with the new update)
I'd like to talk more but unfortunately I'm tired, it's 4am here it took me awhile to type this on my phone because I'm testing it's performance after another software repair because of the 4th time it restarted automatically which made me thought of posting this here because I'm really frustrated right now with Xperia phones. Bye guys, please reply and tell me what you think B-)

I don't think it's Xperia phones that are the problem here (i.e. Z1, in our case), but the update itself, made available in a rush and with not enough testing.
I am still running 4.3 JB, and will not upgrade to KK, because I don't want my phone to degrade at all, everything's working just fine now as it is. If and when Sony's software engineers decide to do a proper job, ok. But now, no way in high heavens I will update.

With the Canadian dollar near parity, why is the cost of the new iPhone5 so much more in Canada???

    It's not.
Announced US pricing is for a subsidized device on 2yr contract.
All other pricing that I have seen for iPhones in other country's is for non-subsidized devices.

    Reasons:

    Australian taxes on foreign imports
    Australian VAT

Hi Since updating to ios 7.04 i have noticed the phone consumes so much more power. I have to charge the phone twice sometimes 3 times a day. WHY?

    Hi,
Thanks! I forgot to add, I have debonded and rebonded the bluetooth in car and phone and have carried out 3 restores on the phone in my ITunes. All to no avail. I have also jsut spent £40 on a lead from Ford that has made no difference too! I went to them today to request a software upgrade on my car as I though perhaps the lack of connectivity in the car was down to the car being behind the iOS5 software but was informed there was no need for an upgrade and this problem is purely an apple problem! Is there any way around the downgrade? Or are apple gong to resolve this problem at all??

  • Why are Macbooks so much more expensive in NZ compared to US?

    Hi,
Just wondering why the apple products are so much more expensive in NZ than in US. I am looking at getting a new macbook pro 17" and saw it is NZ$4149, and US$2500. So I used the exchange rates to convert US$2500 to NZ$. It came to approx $3000. So why are they making us pay another $1000 in NZ??

    Economies of scale most likely.
    https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Economies_of_scale
Your question should be looked at in the opposite "Why are US citizens getting a discount?"
If you compare the two economies and what people tend to buy perhaps that would shed some light.
Perhaps the "Apple halo effect" doesn't reach OZ?

  • Why are TV shows (like Supernatural) so much more expensive to download (SD or HD) than sites like Amazon?

Why are TV shows (like Supernatural) so much more expensive to download (SD or HD) than sites like Amazon?

They aren't really that much cheaper on Amazon. For Supernatural season 7, each single episode in HD is $2.99, same as iTunes. If you buy the whole season on Amazon, it's $2.84 per episode. Maybe $2 cheaper to buy on Amazon.
Remember though, on Amazon, you can't sync the videos onto an iPad/iPod/iPhone or Apple TV. In iTunes you can.
I prefer to buy on iTunes simply for the convenience, iTunes makes all the differance.

    Hi maybeamy,
Please see Is FormsCentral part of the Creative Cloud?
You can create unlimited offline forms with the desktop application that's included with Acrobat XI as part of Creative Cloud. If you want to track responses, or create more than one web form, you'd need a FormsCentral subscription.

  • Why is 24GB or RAM so much more then 12GB ?

I understand that it is double the size but man is it way more expensive.
It seems like anyone here that has built a core i7 has gone the 12GB route but im sure would like to max out the motherboard at 24GB
You hear people say that RAM is cheap but not 24GB.
Need 2 sets of these to make 24GB.

    Just curious:  Glenn

DDR3 has taken quite some time to get produced in 2 GB sticks and they were initially much more expensive than DDR2 sticks. Now that the i7 has gained a firm foothold one sees the price of 2 GB DDR3 sticks dropping rapidly, but where people were coming from 4 GB machines or even less, 12 GB memory seemed more than enough for the future, so there was hardly any demand for the latest sticks in 4 G sizes. For video editors and the upcoming 64 bit CS5 applications, one may see some more interest in 4 GB sticks, more manufacturers to enter that specific market and dropping prices as a consequence of increased competition in that smallish market, but I think it will be only by next year that the sizable premium on 4 G sticks will diminish somewhat. As always, being at the leading edge of technology carries a hefty price-tag.
Now with TESLA around the corner and the C2070 co-processor which carries 6 GB of its own memory, and is not an SLI solution (which is initially not supported in CS5, according to Dennis), support for this co-processor may alleviate the memory requirements for more than 12 GB.
Price erosion only happens when more manufactures get into the game and demand rises, leading to more competition. Just remember what happened with the prices of DVD or BRD players, plasma or LCD flat screens, etc. So, give it some time...

  • Why is iOs 8 using so much more battery life on my 5c??

Ever since updating to iOs 8 with the supposed bug fixes, my 5c uses MUCH more battery life and I am NOT on it during the day at work except to make 4 -5 short phone calls!!!  I hate it!!  Wish I'd never updated.  I have decreased screen brightness, turned off notifications for practically everything, and usually only play a little Solitaire and check FB for about 15 - 20 min. each evening.  Also, FB isn't working at all since I've updated.  I can open it and see old stuff but no new posts to FB.  Come on, Apple!!  This isn't what we wanted.  Believe me, lesson learned.  I won't update ever again to a new Os.  This is ridiculous.  I loved my 5c and it was working fabulously with great battery life!!  I only bought my first iPhone 6 months ago and WAS in love with it UNTIL NOW!!  Does anyone have any suggestions???

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
Have you tried ALL the troubleshooting steps?  If you have and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and possible exchange.
There is no supported way to downgrade the iOS.

  • OR is taking much more time than UNION

    hi gems..
i have written a query using UNION clause and it took 12 seconds to give result.
then i wrote the same query using OR operator and then it took 78 seconds to give the resultset.
The tables which are referred by this qurey have no indexes.
the cost plans for the query with OR is also much more lesser than that with UNION.
please suggest why OR is taking more time.
    thanks in advance

Here's a ridiculously simple example.  (these tables don't even have any rows in them)
If you had separate indexes on col1 and col2, the optimizer might use indexes in the union but not in the or statement:
Which is faster will depend on the usual list of things.
Of course, the union also requires a sort operation.

  • Is it the time to go to Google? iTunes is much more expensive than Google Play!

I know that iTunes is amazing. But now that Google Play's started renting movies in my country (Brazil) I guess if iTunes worth it's high price for everything...
I have an Apple Tv, what is very good, however isn't complete as well, per exemple that doesn't have a way to change the subtitle size, what's a really simple feature. Otherwise its items are extremelly expense here in my Country. While a movie is rented by Google for R$ 6.99 (~U$3.49) the same movie is rented by iTunes for U$4.99, so I guess: WHY???
Do you guys have the same felling than I have that Apple has charged so much more money that it would? Anyone here is thinking about migrate to Google Play/Android plataform?
Why do you guys think about all of that?

If you find a better price elsewhere, by all means patronize that other company if you wish. We have no control over pricing here, we just being fellow users, and these forums are for technical support questions, not pricing debates or comments, so further discussion on the matter really isn't appropriate here.

  • AUDIO TO SCORE is gone and it was much more precise for drum doubling than the doubling function itself.

AUDIO TO SCORE. I used that all the time for drum doubling for the following reasons:
In Logic 9 i always used audio to score for drum doubling because it had much more control over essential parameters than the drum replacement window. Parameters like: Granulation, Smooth Release and Attack Range made sure that i didn't have any flams, too few notes, too many notes etc etc. AND you could see in the sample editor (below the waveform) immediately the effect of the changes made in those parameters!
Now with these parameters gone and only the drum doubling function left, what was a real pro function has become much more cumbersome to use. You can no longer see in detail what changes in parameters does to the out-coming midi. And the lack of the detailed parameters makes drum doubling drop or miss notes, makes flams with the original drum track etc etc.... In short. The drum doubling function is inadequate for pro results.
So this is my suggestion: Apple probably wont reinstate audio to score as it was (i'd love it if they did, it's essential to me and others who does rock mixes in logic instead of protools). But you can do something that's even better:
In the audio file editor (previously the sample editor) make the old audio to score into an advanced drum doubling/replacement editor. Take the audio to score window and parameters and reinstate them BUT instead of outputting different note values make them output to a desired note of the users choice (e.g C1). Without opening the library. It cluters the window and often people want to use their own drum software than apples samples.
It's the realtime view in the bottom of the audiofile editor that makes a difference. And the missing parameters. Without these things a good outcome is based on luck rather than visual reference.

I was doing drum replacement ( adding ) with Audio-to-score for years, and must say, drum replacement is working for me without any flams and much better and 2x faster. I think it is pro feature, with advanced transient detector. Only problem is velocity,as in Audio-to-score.
If automatic threshold not working on some material, you can do  fine transient edits in audio editor with visual realtime feedback, you can change output note and delay globally. Also you can hear ( in compare with Audio-to-score), that's why library is opened and sample replacement -after, not difficult to do.

  • Blocks have much more free space specified by pctfree moved off freelist.

We have a table with pctfree=0 and pctused=90 and experienced high session against it. During the high session, we saw lots of "read by other session", cbc chain, and "buffer busy wait" caused by the same sql (INESRT). The row size of of an average 4K with long raw. After got the block info for the "read by other session" and "buffer busy wait", I dumped the block. The strange thing is that all the of blocks dumped are not in the freelist and the available free space is over 1K.
My idea is: When the session named waiting_a experienced "read by other session" to find the block to insert data, that block must be in the freelist, otherwise the waiting_a wouldn't try to read it in buffer and wouldn't be waiting for it to be ready. Very shortly other session reading_b which was reading the block put the data in buffer and did the insert operation, and the reading_b completed its work of insert. My dump should be after reading_b completed. So the dumped block should contain the data inserted by reading_b. After that the block was got off from freelist.
But why blocks with 0x520 (1312)and 0x104c (4172) freespace got off from freelist? As pctuse is 90, a block will be got off from freelist when free space is less than 10% of the block size, and these two blocks have much more freespace.

knowing Oracle specifically warns against using multiple blocksizes
Nope.  Oracle does not warn against using multiple blocksizes, anywhere in the documentation.
The only warnings I've seen (By Daniel Morgan, and unverified) claims that Oracle was negligent and only tested the SQL optimizer with an 8k blocksize.
I'm not sure that this is true, since it would constitute misfeasance.
I know that Oracle does extensive tesing on their new features, and the docs offer the multiple blocksize feature without reservation.
Uisng multiple blocksizes is a well established, proven concept.
DBA's have been using them for decades with IMS, IDMS and DB2 before Oracle came along.
I first saw multiple blocksized used with great success in the 1980's, and they are still in use today on many large databases.
provide a measurable idea what 'lots' constitute, and how much I/O is reduced in the shops you saw? There is load of verifiable evidence out there:

The IBM Oracle Technical Brief titled "Oracle Architecture and Tuning on AIX" (November 2006) notes that careful evaluation is required before implementing multiple blocksizes:
While most customers only use the default database block size, it is possible to use up to 5 different database block sizes for different objects within the same database.
Having multiple database block sizes adds administrative complexity and (if poorly designed and implemented) can have adverse performance consequences. Therefore, using multiple block sizes should only be done after careful planning and performance evaluation.
