Z10 device memory usage oddity

We own two z10 on att. Network. Both set up just about identical except wife's also has Facebook and Twitter. My "other" device memory usage holds constant at about 5.5 gb. About 3 weeks ago noticed her "other" device memory usage was 12 gb. Did everything I knew to clear up space on hers but didn't accomplish much. Using blackberry link I did a full backup and then a restore. That brought her "other" back down to about 5.5 gb. Now, last week hers had crept up to 6.6gb used and this week is at 7.4 gb used.
Something doesn't seem right comparing our two z10's. Other than she does more texting than me and uses Facebook and Twitter I can't account for anything eating up her device memory
Os is 10.1.0.2074. Software is 10.1.0.2019
Any help would be appreciated!

MaxMem was a tool that could "free up space" in OS's 4.2 to 6.0.  It hasn't been updated since sometime in 2008.  There is no BB10 version.

  • BlackBerry z10 device memory problem

I have a problem with my BlackBerry z10 device memory. Over time the so called "other data" keep growing, eating up the internal memory even though i didn't install new apps. So now i have less than 1 gb free storage and keep getting message that i should move some files to the external memory. The "other data" is now at 14.8 gb. BlackBerry 10 os don't let us see the content of this data but i know that all of the apps i installed take less than 4 gb. I wanna find the solution before i factory reset my z10. I don't like to have to install all those apps again.

  • Best way to detect memory usage etc. on mobile device for debugging?

    Hi
What's the best way, when developing, to detect memory usage and such while the app is running on the device?
So you can test it and see if something is causing it to run wild. I'm making an iOS/Android device so I want to try it on both slow and fast phones and I have a script that "adds on" memory usage as the user continues. I would like to monitor this (either in app, or from the debugger) to see what happens.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

Wow thanks Yacine! Didn't know this one, it will be a life saver for my IOS debugging !!
    Cheers!

  • Tracking Memory usage on iOS using the Stats class

I've been checking memory usage on an app I'm developing for iOS using the Stats class https://github.com/mrdoob/Hi-ReS-Stats ( http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/mobile/WS4bebcd66a74275c3-315cd077124319488fd-7fff.html#WS 948100b6829bd5a61637f0a412623fd0543-8000).
I added the Stats class to my project and redeployed and, yikes, memory usage reported in Stats creeps up (pretty slowly) even when there's nothing happening in the app (just showing a loaded bitmap).
To try and track down the issue I created a project with a test class that extends Sprite with just this single call in the constructor :-
    addChild( new Stats() );
I deployed it to the device to check that it didn't gobble any memory.
But I was Suprised to watch the memory usage creep up and up (to approx 5) before some garbage collection kicked in and takes memory back down. I left it running and then it crept up again to over 7.5 this time before being kicked back down to just below 3.
So 2 related questions that I'd appreciate any feedback/observations/thoughts on :-
1 - Is this normal (i.e. memory creeping up when there's nothing other than Stats in the project) ?
2 - What is the best way to monitor memory usage within an app ? Is Stats good enough - is Stats itself causing the memory usage ?
    All the best guys !

    Also see thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4280020#4280020)
    My conclusions are :-
    - If you run an app and leave it idle, memory usage gradually creeps up (presumably as memory is being used to perform calcs/refresh the display etc)
    - Periodically the garbage collection kicks in and memory is brought back down
    - This cycle could be in excess of 5 mins
Run with your real app and memory will increase and be released much more rapidly/regularly.
    - It's probably worth performing initial checks by running on your desktop to iron out any initial problems

  • BackgroundMediaPlayer high memory usage

Hi, I have a problem with WP8.1 Background task with BackgroundMediaPlayer. When I have just the simplest app, which have virtually zero logic in both the task and and app, when the task is started, it takes 15MB of memory. When playback starts, it jumps
to 21 MB, which leaves me about 4 MB (since the limit is 25 MB). This is just ridiculous. (I use MemoryManager.AppMemoryUsage to get used memory).
What I find even more stupid is the fact that when I run the app in emulator, the memory usage is 5 MB on start, after start of playback 11 MB. So I am left with 14 MB, which is ok.
I created a simple project, if you are interested, download it here: http://bezysoftware.net/files/App13.zip It will notify you about memory usage in background task using toasts.
Any ideas what to do? Beside rewriting everything in C++ - I already have an app ready in C#.

    Hi bezysoftware,
Looks like emulator performs better than the real device? I'm not quite understand what do you mean by "playback" start, what's the difference between task start and playback start?
And sorry I cannot repro the issue on my emulator, always 7.7MB instead of 11MB as you mentioned.
I also tested with my Lumia 630, it only use 3MB when start and use 7MB when running, I cannot repro the issue.
I would also suggest you tell us what kind of device you are using, perhaps it related with the test device.

  • High memory usage and error creating access rules

    Hi guys
I'm having a problem with the memory and also trying to create some rules on the CISCO ASA. The version that I got installed was the 8.2.5.33 on a CISCO 5520 with 512 RAM, the memory usage is on 99% used, 1% free and because of that when I'm trying to create a new rule the firewall brings me the next error
So what I did was a downgrade to the version 8.2 (4) 4 and the memory went down a little (82% used, 18% free) but I still got the error when I'm creating an access rule on the device. One thing and I'm not sure if this could affect on the performance are the number of access list and the object groups that are created.
I already open a case with CISCO TAC and they are checking if the problem is with the memory capacity or maybe a memory leak.
Also the doubt that I got is with the memory that I got now available should I can create access rules or 82 is still to hig to create a rule or and object group?
    Regards

    Hi,
Can you check what is the amount of ACEs you have on the ACLs in use?
I think if you use the command "show access-list " the first line should give you the total amount of ACEs in the ACL

i've read i can disable the kernel modules that i don't need to improve the memory usage.
which modules i can disable without "kill my system"?. i don't want SATA, DVD, bluray, infrared, floppys, bluetooth, usb3.0, 3d video card, dial-up-integrated modem, ntfs, 'cause mi old is so old. i want it only for the university.
thanks in advantage for the tips, and sorry if someone can't understand very well that i wanna tell you, english isn't my "mother languaje".

thanks for the answers. yes, i have a 1 gb of swap.
i think i can reduce the memory usage of the system if i dissable the kernel modules that i don't use. but, the question is: what modules is safe to disable to get it?

  • Nokia Messaging memory usage

    Hello,
Couple of points related to Nokia Messaging
memory usage. Nokia Messaging stores, by default, 2kb of each message
on the device. Even if you have hundreds of emails, they don't take up
much space until you start getting into attachments.
    The
deleted items folder in Nokia Messaging does not clear itself
automatically in this release, so if you've been deleting a lot of
emails on the device and are encountering issues with memory, go into
that folder and choose options to empty it.
    We are
investigating the memory consumption on the N97 with Nokia Messaging,
as some of you have reported. The reason we don't offer message
storage on the memory card is that removing of the memory card with the
messages stored on there could cause some serious issues with correctly
    syncing your email.
We do hear you on the calls for
storage somewhere other than the C drive. The amount of space that the
emails should take up on your device is minimal, but we are open to
feedback and fixing problems as they arise.
Message Edited by davisfields on 13-Aug-2009 10:46 PM

As netoak stated in the above post. My problem with N97 is the same, I have a number of applications that needs to be installed on (E) Mass Storage. By running these applications and have a message comes through. Be it, text, picture, multimedia, it will get stored on the phone memory which eventually gets full and can only be deleted as it cannot be copied or moved (connect to PC back up, delete original from phone memory and then restore from PC to Mass Storage is a royal joke) to Mass Storage.
What good is a flagship phone that meant to be rich for multimedia when a couple of e-mails or messages with attachments will render it's useless.
So if these issues below are not looked at I'm soon to trade my N97 in for something else, and neither are my friends and family going to get N97 because they already know that their non-N97 phones works fine and mine is having loads of issues.
Surely these can be fixed in the next major update of your firmware?
    - Functionality to copy or move selected message from C to E. We're jumping through hoops just to do the most simplest of tasks like moving messages. Inability to move messages and e-mails between these two storage locations is really, really, 1990's and not mobile computer as Nokia trying claim N97 is.
    - Settings to be persistent that messages go to E when stuff on E are being used.

  • Air runtime memory usage

I am developing games on Android devices and I find the total memory usage of my air application presented in Scout is always smaller (100M) than the memory usage shown in the Taskmanager.
Some articles say that the Scout does not count the memory used by the air runtime.
However, it is not possible that the air runtime occupies more than 100M memory, right? Especially, on Android devices?
I have also written a very small test app, it only occupies 20M memory (containing the air runtime).
My question is how can I reduce the additional 100M memory not presented in Scout?

  • Logic Pro 8, Kontakt 2.23 & Memory usage

    Hello -
*What type of known memory problems might exist between Logic (Logic 8 in particular) and either Kontakt 2.23 or Kontakt Player 2.23??*
*If there are known memory usage issues, what can be done to help/fix the situation??*
My computer set up is listed below. I have not upgraded to Leopard (but did upgrade to Logic Pro 8). By-in-large, Logic Pro 8 works fine. However, I usually "network" the Logic sequencing projects with Muse Research's Receptor (version B) and/or an aging Dell Precision Workstation 650 using Musiclab's MIDIoverLan CP3. This has proven stable for me. For my most recent project, I decided to see how many instrument plug-ins I can utilize within the Logic Pro 8 program (without benefit of this "network" set-up). For this project, I'm using one instance of MusicLab's RealGuitar and 16 instances of +*Kontakt Player version 2.23*+ for a total of 17 instrumental tracks. The instrument libraries used are Garritan's GPO and JABB. With this many individual (not multi) track instances used, the activity monitor is showing high RAM usage. For some of the instruments, I could not use the KS choices (trumpet, trombone) because the extra RAM caused Logic to crash as I mounted more instruments.
I tried adjusting the DFD. Still, there remained high RAM usage and the occasional crash. For some of the crashes, I either got the endless colored spinning wheel or a message basically stating that there was no memory available for the DFD. I am no expert with the advanced workings of Logic and the DFD associated with the Kontakt plug-ins. But I am surprised that using just 17 instrument tracks with this newer Mac Pro computer (with 5 GBs RAM) is causing problems. Sadly, I am not an expert Apple user to be able to tell whether it's the computer or Logic or Kontakt. I suspect, though, its some kind of issue between Kontakt and Logic.
For my audio, I use MOTU's 2408 MK3. For my midi in-put I use M-Audio's Keystation Pro 88. I do not think either one of these devices are causing the apparent memory problems.
By the way. . . before I purchased my newer MacPro computer, I had a similar instrumental set-up using my aging Dell Precision 650 workstation with 2 GB of RAM using Steinberg's SX 3 program. I used the same GPO and JABB sound libraries. It did "challange" the Dell computer (I had to adjust buffer/latency settings to MOTU's 828 MK2 used with the Dell computer), but the computer didn't crash like what I'm experiencing at present.
I don't mind "networking" my computers together in order to use larger instrumental plug-in tracks. But I would think that given the "power" of my newer MacPro I should be able to handle more than 17 GPO & JABB tracks. Yes? No?
*Given my current computer set-up, how many instrumental tracks (using libraries associated with Kontakt or the Kontakt Player) should I get??*
    Thank you in advance.
    Ted

Sadly, I can chime in with the same basic problem. Namely, that
Kontakt2 seems to leak ram. I've watched the activity monitor show
an increase in ram allocation to logic if i simply LOOK at a kontakt
instance. Just clicking on the instance causes ram to be allocated, and no matter how much I purge samples, I just can't retrieve that ram. Once 2 gigs are sent to logic, crash.
The only solution I've found is to save & restart before it climbs too high. I can then work for an hour or so until the ram overflows again. This is obviously a major bug, and I agree that Logic doesn't appear to be the culprit.
Have either of you tried K3? I wonder if the problem is more under control there? There's no way Kontakt will bother to fix this bug
in v2.23 with v3 on the shelves. The question is, how do we know that v3 fixes it without buying it? I've heard reports that v3 is even
    more bloated than v2.
I've recently done a clean install of leopard on a blank drive, and
i'm patiently waiting until NI updates the installers for K2.
Then, i'll have a clean OS, clean newly installed logic 8, and
a cleanly installed K2. Maybe that will help mitigate, if not solve the problem.
I'm almost sure that Kontakt is the source of the problem, but
I've also been told that Intels have serious flaws in their ram
    allocation WITH TIGER.
Some people with G5's have reported having access to 3.5 gigs ram.
Intells can only use 2 gigs with any one app. This was thought to be a problem with Tiger and and Intels. So maybe Leopard will expand the RAM wallet, and then we just have to wait for Kontakt to stop spending so much.

  • Debugging ADF Mobile Memory Usage

I'm attempting to debug/profile an ADF Mobile application running on an Android device. I've noticed that once a breakpoint is hit, the debugger will disconnect, I'll see a com.sun.jdi.VMDisconnectedException thrown in JDev and the application is killed on the device. This seems to be dependent on which debugger windows I have open. Specifically, I've seen this when the Heap or Classes window is open. If these windows are NOT open, I'm able to step through the source and view data, stack and thread info. If I'm stepping through code and decide to open the Classes window, the debugger loses the connection and the application is killed on the device but I see no exception in JDeveloper. I can open the Heap window, but when I attempt to manually add a new type I observe the same behavior of losing the connection and application being killed. I've reported this behavior using the automatic feedback agent when an exception is seen in JDev (bug numbers 16179056 and 16179135).
Does anyone have troubleshooting tips or a workaround? I'm trying to get some memory usage information.

    ADF Mobile: 11.1.2.3.39.62.94
    OS: Windows 7
Device Model: Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535
    Android Version: 4.1.1
    Android Debug Bridge Version: 1.0.29

    Hi,
ADB (Android Debug Bridge) is an Android SDK utility that provides interface between developer machine and emulator/Android device. This command needs to run using a command prompt - typically you would need to run in the directory containing ADB app unless you have the PATH env variable set up. ADB is typically located in <Android SDK Location>\android-sdk\platform-tools. First you will need to start the Android Emulator, and then run the ADB port forward command to set the forward port. You would need to configure the JDeveloper Java debugger accordingly, as well as setting Java Debugging to true in the cvm.properties file. You can then deploy your application mobile app on the emulator, start the JDeveloper Java debugger, and then launch the ADF Mobile app. It is important that you remember to run the Java debugger from JDev before launching the ADF Mobile app, or the app startup will hang while trying to connect to the debugger.
On a side note, you can look at the logging output from the emulator using the ddms utility (In the Android SDK's tools directory).
Good luck and let me know if you have more issues.
    Thanks,
    Joe Huang

  • Does J2ME Wireless Toolkit Check Memory Usage?

I just want to confirm that does the J2ME wireless Toolkit check the memory usage by a MIDlet and only allow it 128KB of memory usage as specified by the MIDP 2.0 specification???
Or do we have to calculate and check manually about the memory usage of a MIDlet???

    Hi,
The WTK doesnt set heap memory unless u specify in the preferences. Most of the devices allow upto 200 KB heap size or more. The least being Nokia 7250 which allows only upto 200 KB heap size. SO if u are developing for a particular device in mind specify the heap size in the preferences. You will also get the memory utilized at runtime thru.
    Runtime.getRuntime().* functions. eg.
    Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory();
    wil give u free memory.
in new emulators such as Nokia 7210 emulator , u can see the memory real time , on the details secction.
    Hope this helps.

I have deleted almost all of my text messages but for some reason my memory usage still says that i have 3.5 gb of text messages saved. How do i correct this problem?

Good luck finding the solution. I have another posting https://discussions.apple.com/message/25145839#25145839 on this exact same issue, and that is after looking on my own for the solution on the web and on Apple's forum without any luck for a real solution. Having to RESET a device every time I need to clear out old messages from memory sounds to me like an intended pain from Apple to keep pushing iPhone users to purchase additional iCloud backup plans.

  • About memory usage

    Hi
I'm a new blackberry user. I think BlackBerry is really a good smartphone.
But there's a problem when I don't reboot many days. The memory usage is so high, so it may cause to restart suddenly. And look at the device monitor the input service is accumulating more and more since last restarting it. Is that normal, or it's original bug of the system? is there any solution to sovle the problem?
    thanks!

I only updated when I get the phone. I never try to load a different OS.
Updated the OS? Well, the most common thing to do after an update that results in issues is to perform an OS reload. Sometimes, the update processes have errors and such...with a reload often curing the issues. The official methods, which will be controlled as to what exact OS versions you are offered:http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-Functions-and/How-to-Reload-your-Blackberry10-O...The unofficial methods, which are cleaner, and allow you to choose an OS version that perhaps your carrier (or whoever it is controlling your offers) has been slow to approve:http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Upgrading-OS10-devices-using...http://forums.crackberry.com/bb10-leaked-beta-os-f395/bb10-os-archive-943672/Of course, before you start any of this you will want a good backup via LINK, a manual copy of your Device Memory to your PC, and full documentation of your configuration (account credentials, added apps, configurations, etc.). Sometimes, restoring from a backup returns to the device the very corruption one needs to eliminate, and reconfiguring from scratch can resolve that. baileyhuang wrote:
The problem seldom occurs. I just have a question why the phone have 3GB ram but only less than 1 GB could use after using for some days?
The amount of residual memory is a completely individual thing, based on what you use and do. Your experience will never exactly match anyone else's. Typically, after 48-72 hours, things settle down to whatever is normal for you, which may well be residual of 1GB. So, if it is settled at 1GB remaining and not getting worse, then it's likely that is what is normal for you specific usage. On the other hand, if it continues to degrade and not settle, then you might have a corrupt OS install or something else causing a memory leak, and starting over cleanly with a reload might be what you need to do. Good luck!

  • Unable to access device memory

    Hello there,
I'm having trouble trying to access the device memory.
It's half full, but I haven't any files! I've tried a factory reset and a security wipe, but it still says that I've used up half the memory.
When I try and update my phones software, it tells me to "consider deleting or moving files". But there aren't any left to move!
I can't seem to access to device memory to see what these files are, when I check my memory usage it just says that there's 2.07gb of system files.

I have also re-installed the Windows XP. still nothing.
If you have restored the hard drive to its original factory-new condition using the Toshiba recovery discs, then that means you have a hardware malfunction.
You can purchase a card reader that plugs into a USB port.
