Problem with DMGs and error: "No Mountable File Systems"
The files are not corrupt. The problem is occurring with all DMGs that are apparently formatted in MS-DOS FAT16. No the file will not mount with Disk utility or any other disk mounter programs I have found.
This is now the second time this occurred and now effects my MBP and my iMac. First time i spent days with Apple support and the only solution was ultimately back up the data, reformat the HD, start over from scratch and reload everything. That lasted about a month before the problem resurfaced and is now an issue on both iMac and MBP.
I tried to identify all the programs I installed immediately before the error, as I am convinced it is the result of a software conflict.
Recent programs includes:
1) upgrading from Parallels 5.5 to 6.0 on both machines.
2) using an HP secure II usb drive and setting up a secure disk.
3) installing new itunes 10
4) new update to Flip For Mac.
The files affected are downloaded dmgs, including personal brain and google earth, both which are formatted in FAT16.
Any help or thoughts? Apple has now spent hours trying and they say i now have to reformat and wipe and start over. That is unacceptable and based on pasted experience the problem is likely to repeat itself. having to wipe and rebuild a HD ever month is not an solution. i need to fid the root problem.
In the meantime, anyone got a real solution on how to extract the data for a DMG using a different method?

Where you able to find the solution, i am having the same problem, all was fine till i install some programs only same one i saw did we both did was flip4mac i uninstalled it but the problem is still there, i also restored and erased the hardrive but im not up to doing that all over again. If you found anything out let me know i would greatly appreciate it

Not sure at all how to set up my ports.

Go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab. In the drop down set the speed to match your download or to a max of 1.5meg

I ALSO HAVE A IMAC 17IN FLAT SCREEN, ABOUT 3 YEARS OLD RUNNING OS 10.2.8 I JUST PUT AN AIRPORT EXTEME CARD AND BOTH COMPUTERS IS USING THE AIRPORT EXPRESS. BEFORE I WAS USING THE BUILT-IN ETHERNET.

"problem with shortcut/fatal error during installation" on other user accts

I-tunes installed and works with no problem in original user, but when another user account attempts to open Itunes, program attempts to install/configure again, then results in a "problem with shortcut / fatal error during installation" message. Setting the other users to administrators doesn't help, nor does un-installing/re-installing, etc. I am at least the 4th person with this problem (see Burthomp earlier today,Jan. 17 and Richard 1018 on Dec. 29). This problem started with Itunes 7.5, and is still a problem on Itunes 7.6. I have a standard Dell setup, Model E510. There must be a lot of people with this problem. Apple, are you working on this? Anyone else have a suggestion?

I ran into the same problem, but I think I have the solution. First, the problem isn't with iTunes, its an access problem with Windows XP. I tried to run the iTunes program from the Program Files, and I received an "Access Denied" error.
If you try to open the Program Files in My Computer\Local Disk(C:) and receive an "Access Denied" Error, that is why you are receiving a "shortcut problem/Fatal Error during installation".
Here is how I corrected it:
1) Shut down the computer and restart it in "safe mode". I had to look up how to do this, but I pressed F8 when it was restarting and I highlighted the "safe mode" and started the machine. The icons will be large, but ignore it.
2) Open a user that has administrative access -- I used the one user that has access to itunes.
3) Go to My Computer\Local Disk (C:) and right click on the "Program Files" folder. Select "properties" at the bottom.
4) Go to the Security Tab
5) At the top you should see one or two users that have access to the Programs File. One will be the user that itunes works on. Click Add, then click Advanced, then click Find Now.
6) At the bottom should appear a list of users. Select a user on which itunes doesn't work. Click Ok, then click OK again.
7) Give that user full access to the Program File by putting a check mark in the Full Access box.
8) Repeat for the remaining users.
9) Restart computer in normal mode.
10) Go into a user that had problems and click the itunes icon, and it should run.
It worked for me, I hope it works for you.

Unsolvable Screen Sharing Authentication Error

Here's my scenario...
I have three Core2Duo iMacs (Let's call them "A" "B" and "C") on a local appletalk network all communicating fine in all directions via an Airport Extreme base station.
When it comes to logging into each machine via file sharing, I have no trouble accessing any machine from any other machine.
HOWEVER,
When I attempt screen sharing over the network, this is my result.
Computer "A" can access the screens of "B" and "C",
Computer "B" can access the screens of "A" and "C",
Computer "C" can access the screen of "B" but not "A"
When I attempt to log into Screen sharing from "C" to "A", I get the following error message:
*+Authentication failed to "NameofComputer"+*
*+Please verify you have entered the correct name and password.+*
I have turned screen sharing on/off, restarted, etc, but it doesn't fix that one issue.
Now, to add to the strangeness, when I access computer "A" via computer "B" through file sharing, I can see all of my drives, including an externally connected hard drive that I use for storage.
BUT, when I connect from "C" to "A" via file sharing, all of my user areas and native partitions show up, but the External drive does NOT.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than archiving and reinstalling Leopard? AND, any idea which system even has the problem? The authentication error responds so quickly that I somewhat think that authentication is not even being attempted from "C" to "A".

Here's just a bit more info. I created a new user on the computer that I noted as "C" and under the new user area I was able to connect to computer "A"; however, when I switch back to the original user, it still will not connect, so now I know that the problem lies somewhere in "C".
I deleted my screen sharing prefs, but that made no change.
I have verified that the sharing and network settings are consistent across all three machines.
Could there be another preference file I should attempt to delete to see if I have a corrupted preference?

Satellite A305 problem: "No bootable device" error after dropping unit

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Last night, I went to set my A305 laptop down on the coffee table. During the motion, my dog, which I was stepping over, jumped up and took off which almost knocked me over. When this happened, I lost my grip on the computer and dropped it onto the coffee table at a height of about 2-3 feet. It was in standby mode so I pressed the button to wake it back up to see if I damaged it. The Internet Explorer session I was previously in pulled up, but nothing would happen when I clicked on any browser buttons or links. I shut down the computer and upon restarting, I got the black screen with "TOSHIBA" in red, as usual, and then I got a black screen with this error message: For Realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v1.07 (080320)PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cablePXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROMNo bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key I couldn't get it to do anything else at all, even after several shut down attempts. Does anyone know what could be causing this to happen? Is it a hard drive malfunction as a result from the drop? The unit had worked perfectly for a little over a year up until this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Possible, yes. Can you do it at home, no. Due to the clearances involved you need to do this in a special clean room as the slightest piece of dust or debri that is normally floating around in the air would ruin the platters that the data is stored on. If the drive won't work you'll need to send it to a professional data recovery service to have them do it and the cost of something like that starts at about a grand and goes up depending on the specifics. But before we go there you need to determine if the problem is for sure the hard drive. Enter the bios and check to see if it is even being recognized or not. Also, take the hard drive out and boot to a self booting CD/DVD like a Linux Live CD to verify that the rest of the system is working properly. If it isn't, then the problem might not be the hard drive itself (although the chances of that are about the same as winning the lottery). If the laptop had been off there is a good chance that it would have survived and still worked. But anytime a rotating hard drive sustains any sort of impact shock the chances of it sustaining damage are about 98%.

Before I started to resync calendars one by one as suggested in the troubleshooting article, I remembered something that came up in a sync when I first attempted : a 'which one do you want to keep' message about a repeating calendar event, which came up with three options, one from Calendar, and two from iCal on the phone. I deleted that event, then went through the calendar resync one by one, and all seems OK now.
In Music there is a way to find 'ghost' items that show up as grayed-out on the menus, so that you can try to reassociate or delete them. It would be nice to have a similar way to work with Calendar!

Can't add page to Home screen because an error occurred

I finally had a moment to upgrade to 1.1.3, and everything works great, except for web clips, which is the one thing I really wanted to do! I go to a web page, click the plus sign, and choose "Add to Home Screen". It shows the icon for the page and lets me change the name. Then when I click "add", I get the following error message:
"Could not add this page to the Home screen because an error occurred."
This happens so far on any site I try it on, whether or not the site has a pre-made iPhone icon. I have already tried restoring my phone with no luck. Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks for the tips. I tried all that with no luck. I then proceeded to erase all settings. No luck there. I decided to go extreme, and delete all content and settings. Still doesn't work!
This seems like such a dumb thing, but it's still happening after two restores, clearing cache, resetting settings, and erasing all data! The only other thing I can think would be to restore the iPhone without bringing info from backup, but that would mean re-entering EVERYTHING. I'll try it I suppose, unless someone else knows a way around this.
