Z10 to Q10 device switch - errors

Hi All,
I am getting an error message while trying to switch devices from Z10 to Q10 using the feature in the Blackberry Link. After backing up the Z10 and when in the next step to transfer data to the Q10, the error message is that the data transfer cannot take place since the software version of Q10 is older than Z10. I tried to check for updates but the message I got was that all software is updated on the Q10.
What should I do? Should I use the "Restore" option?
Appreciate any help i can get on this.
Thanks

Hey devesh.
This occurs as the BlackBerry 10 Software between the Q10 Smartphone and Z10 Smartphone have different versions and restoring data from a newer version of software could cause unexpected behaviour on older software and is not currently supported.
Requests have been made to allow supported functionality of this, however at this time I suggest contacting your Wireless Service Provider for assistance in transferring you to BlackBerry Support so that we can look into getting your data transferred over with a workaround or other means.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Cheers.

Unfortunately, that is a limitation of the BB10 OS's. You cannot restore a backup from a newer OS version to an older version. You can restore a backup from an older version to a same or newer version only.
You need the Q10 to be on a newer version. Your only option is to install a "leaked" OS onto the Q10 in order to be able to restore your backup or transfer data.
Here is a link to the latest OS for the Q10. All you do is download the file, it will be a .rar file so you'll need an unzip tool like 7zip to unzip it to the .exe file. Then connect the Q10 and run the .exe file and it will update the OS. It will take you longer to download the file than to install it, too. It takes about 5 minutes to load the new OS.

  • HELP! Switching data from Z10 to Q10

    Hi!
Need help, during switching from Z10 to Q10, BBLink writes "new device have older soft than old" .
Is there any chance to do it???
Btw in Czech there is not Q10 in carrier offer.

    Hey Damirdz,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
If you do a switch device wizard the backup will overnight any data that is on the BlackBerry Q10.  You can not  merge the data during a switch device wizard.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • How to switch from Z10 to Q10

I have a Z10 and want to switch to Q10
i tried through the Blackberry Link, but once i connect the Q10 it doesn't transfer the backup, i even feel that the backup itself is not complete as it reaches to 38% and it suddenly finishes

    Hello shadisamra,
Thank you for your question regarding the backup issue you are experiencing with BlackBerry Link.
Are you using the device switch process or backing and then attempting to do a direct restore. Does the freezing at 38% occur when backing up the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone?

  • Device Switch problem from Z10 to Z30

Device Switch problem from Z10 to Z30
    Hi Dears,
I got my new Z30 and I tried to switch my old Z10 without luck, so I appreciate your help.
Both devices are identical OS Release (10.2.1.2102) version (10.2.1.2141)
I set up my Blackberry ID in the new Z30
I used BB-Link via my PC and everything started fine and smooth, and I followed all instructions step by step.
Until reaching to step (8 of 9 ) in the BB-Link, a popup windows appear in my Z30 saying “RESTORE IN PROGRESS”
But after 5 seconds, BB-Link cancel the restore process !!!
Also, I tried to connect my Z30 to my PC and restore previous Z10 backup directly through BB-Link, but same issue and message “the operation was cancelled”
One more thing, I noticed that, the BBM is empty and showing message “restoring your BBM information” since yesterday.
I wiped my device and try several time but no luck L,
    Please I need your help

Is the new Z30 upgraded with the latest BBM version 10.3?
If not, upgrade that first through App World, then try the Switch Device or restore again.

  • Is there any RIM rep. in here? Did they notice what's happening? I can't move data from Z10 to Q10

Is there any of RIM representative here???
I know this is a common issue, I see many members from forums, here, crackberry, and many others experiencing problems with BlackBerry Link.
    1. I can't switch device from Z10 to Q10, 1st it says my Q10 has old software, I have updated to the latest, now it says please make sure my device is connected and retry, I press retry and always failed to detect (for restore data from Z10 backup to Q10) other than that, it can detect my Q10.
    2. To restore data from backup you have to sign in to BlackBerry ID first and it makes your BBM contact transferred without the others, contact, SMS, calendar, notes, alarms, settings, etc. I'm thinking of moving back to Z10 and afterwards all my open chats in Z10 just disappear, I still have importants chat containing appointments, addresses, price negotiation, hotel reservations, argh this is frustrating because every time I wanted to restore to new device it will ask to sign in again, and how is it going to decide which is my valid PIN on the other side of my BBM's contact if I keep switching device like this back and forth..
Why can't it be like the old days of OS 4, 5, 6, 7 and 7.1?
Where we can make full or partial backups and restore it to any device and any OS?
Didn't you make a proper test and research before releasing OS10 and BlackBerry Link on the market? (This question goes to RIM's rep. where ever you are)
If you wanna make all of your customers run away because your and software have issues, you've made it
This is my last bad experience with BlackBerry prior to OS10
Laughable poor camera on 9900 I can't take photos of receipts and documents, and I have to charge 3 times a day (this is supposed to be a "mobile" phones? I always ended up with dead battery when I'm mobile, and I have to stuck on charger for hours waiting to charge)
And now this .... Come on RIM do something please we really like your device...
Devices I like the most are 9700 and 9780, except for desktop manager that is not backing up auto text. Great camera, great battery life.
Btw I have use the latest release of Link but still can't restore data.

Because BB10 was not an evolution from BBOS...it is completely new, and sadly they did not take all of the prior design considerations and use them when they created BB10 and it's associated toolsets.

That functionality, while requested by many, has not been implemented. There is no way for anyone here to know if/when it will ever be so.
It seems like the rest of your post was mostly commentary or directed at audiences not in this public user-to-user community, so I'll just leave those alone.

  • Link Device Switch just doesn't work!

    Hi guys,
Was really excited to get my spanking new Z10 but its been marred with issues ever since I got it! Now the biggest problem for me is the sync. I have a 9700 on OS6 and have been trying to use the device switch to get all the data transferred onto my Z10.
I started device switch and it successfully backs up the 9700 but when I connect the Z10 and start the process there, in 1 second it shows data successfully copied and then gives me a communication error (Failed to read the device backpup types) and then no data has been copied on to my Z10.
This is extremely annoying! Can anyone please help me with this! Thanks!!

    Agreed, it doesn't work.
Have tried via a media card.  Copied the "DeviceSwitch" directory to every possible location on the media card and it still doesn't do anything.  I suspect the Z10 is looking for a different directory name than that created on the old phone (Curve 9320 running 7.1).
Have tried the PC transfer, this was worse.  The only thing that transferred was calendar items.  Shame that it stored events from a few years ago to current dates.  It's as if it didn't take the year into account and just loaded old data starting with the current date.
This is incredibly poor programming.  This is my fourth and LAST BB.  I've only had it for a day and after 4 hours of trying to do a simple copy I'm ready to throw it away!  I have no patience left for the company I have supported for the last 6 years.
UPDATE - The Z10 won't read the media card from the Curve as it has a different format.  This is why it doesn't find the DeviceSwitch directory with the data on it. Does anyone actually TEST software they write these days?

  • What is the best strategy to use both Z10 and Q10?

Assume I have both a Z10 and Q10 and I'd like to use it on alternate days, what's the best strategy to do so?
BBM should be fine with the same BlackBerry ID and it can just keep switching between the 2 devices.
If I am using local contacts and calendars, is there an easy switch to keep them sync on both Z10 and Q10?
There are also other information to sync in Password Keeper, Remember...etc.
    Is there a solution?

    Hello,
For calendar and contacts, there is this:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Q10/How-To-OTA-Sync-BB10-and-non-BES-Outlook-Overv...
With that, I actually keep all of the following in sync:
Two instances of Desktop Outlook (2007 and 2010)
    Z10
    PlayBook
    Outlook.com
And, before I decommissioned it, also an Android device. Any device that can synchronize with Outlook.com can use this solution to keep in sync for calendar and contacts. You, of course, need to not use solely local contacts and calendar but instead keep them synchronizing with Outlook.com.
For the other things you mention, I know of no solutions other than backup/restore...but I do not recall if LINK offers the selective method for those.
    Good luck!

  • Device removal error.....   The card reader ejects itself

Hello, I'm new to macs and purchased a Mac Mini a week ago. Things were going well until I needed to move pictures from a digital camera to my mac.
I purchased a GE 19 in 1 card reader which is built for mac os x. I hook it up to a usb port and try and look at some pictures. After a few seconds, the card reader ejects itself and I get the "device removal" error. The error will then continue to appear over and over again. When I try to eject the reader using by clicking eject, the reader ejects and only reappears a minute later and ejects itself again. I've tried using another usb port and I know for sure that its not the cable.
If I can't get any prompt answer here, I'm going to call the Genius bar tomorrow morning and ask about the problem. <Edited by Moderator>

More often than not, when a card reader or other similar device disconnects from the USB bus because it is drawing too much power. In a card reader, that would not unusually be triggered not by the card reader itself, but by the insertion of a card causing it to read the content and mount the volume on the Mac's desktop. Part of the problem is that while everything is invariably quoted as USB compatible, many such devices don't entirely comply with the USB standard, resulting in conflicts or load demands which may be borderline, or worse.
You may be able to get more reliable performance from your reader by disconnecting other USB devices when you are trying to use it, or by using it with a powered USB hub. Occasionally, borderline problems can be temporarily resolved by connecting the device to a different port, if necessary switching devices around. Alternatively, it may be that in an attempt to produce a device with the greatest flexibility in terms of media compatibility, they have compromised on components.
I would generally recommend a card reader designed for the specific card type you need. These are typically far more reliable. If you need to use different types of card media, then be prepared to spent on a well established brand with a reputation in this sector of the market, such as SanDisk.

  • DEvice Switch Wizard transferring from Palm Desktop

I just got my Blackberry 9700 replacing my previous Palm 755. When I first used the Device Switch Wizard form the Blackberry Desktop Manager I was able to transfer all the data from my Palm Desktop to my Blackberry. I performed this for about four times as I modified my contact list. Now it aborts the transfer and receive a message saying:
"Desktop organizer data was not imported successfully. Errors occurred during the process"
I have since removed the Blackberry Desktop Manager software completely and reloaded - no result. I upgraded the Desktop Manager with automatic update - no result.
Desperately need help on resolving this.
    Desktop Manager  5.01.37
    Palm Desktop 4.1.4

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Typically, you'd want to do that action just once...to initially get your data over to your BB. After which you'd want to use a different (and compatible) PIM to manage the data on your PC. I'm thinking that perhaps you should do that -- or perhaps, given the error, move your data from your Palm PIM to a compatible PIM:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    And then configure for synchronization:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager

  • When waking from sleep getting "Device Removal" error on Lacie external

When waking from sleep getting "Device Removal" error on Lacie external drive. This drive is my Time Machine back-up and I don't want to lose it. I don't know if anyone else has seen this error. Let me know.

Getting this same error since switching from Firewire to USB. I have a Maxtor drive in an Adaptec enclosure. It has it's own power supply and both USB and Firewire 400 connections. Just upgraded to a new Mini from old Powerbook, so no more Firewire 400!
The big difference between USB and FW:
With the old PB G4 and Firewire, when I put it to sleep, I could hear the external drive actually spin down. On wake up, It would spin up and mount properly. Now with the Mini and USB, when I sleep the Mini, the external drive NEVER SPINS DOWN. I did some research and found that many drives have built-in power management that basically powers them down after some idle time. So the Mini is going to sleep with mounted drives, at some point later the drive sleeps itself, then when the Mini wakes, the drive's not there.
Obviously, Firewire is doing a better job of talking to my external than USB. I'm ordering a FW400-to-800 cable and will test this. I also think it has something to do with the chipset/firmware in the external enclosure, as many people are reporting their external USBs behave properly during sleep.

  • Z10 and Q10 not receiving 365 exchange emails

I have a Z10 and a Q10 user who mentioned they are not able to receive Mircrosoft 365 Exchange Online emails. They have to disconnect from the mobile network and reconnect to the mobile network and Exchange emails start coming in.
This issue happens 4-5 times a day for each user. However these two users also had their POP3 account setup on the phones and those emails flow in quite consistently. (thus not an ISP issue)
Other Z10 and Q10 users in the same organization have no such issue. All BB10 users are connecting to Mircrosoft 365 Exchange Online with Exchange ActiveSync. This organization doesn't have BES servers.
Called MS365 support who blames the phones.
    Has anyone experienced similar issue?
    Thanks!

  • Backup & Device Switch

My Z10 is encrypted. I've just bought a new BlackBerry so I first want to do a backup and of Z10 using Link. Tomorrow I'll use link to switch devices. Do I need to decrypt my Z10 before the backup and device switch?

OK, you said in your first post: "My Z10 is encrypted. I've just bought a new BlackBerry so I first want to do a backup and of Z10 using Link. Tomorrow I'll use link to switch devices. Do I need to decrypt my Z10 before the backup and device switch?"
What I meant was do 2 backups with Link, 1 encrypted and 1 decrypted then see if the encrypted one will install to the Z30
If it does not you then have the decrypted one to use and either way this will answer your question.
Wiping the Z10 is your choice depending on what you will do with it, of course you can also try restoring that also, so seems like you are a test case, just kidding, well maybe not.

Hello All, i recently switched from a 9780 to a 9800, but after a month decided the old 9780 was a better fit for me. Only problem is BBM music give me an error saying i've used up all my 5 device switches, which is weird, cause i only swithed to the one device and back again. Is there any way tor reset this? Would love to have BBM music working on my 9780 again, obivously i don't see the point of paying $5  a month on something i can't use....
    Thanks for any help!

I had the same thing just recently - I switched to a 9790 from the 9800, but it used up 3 device switches so it only says I have 2 left.  Going to tweet @blackberry to see if they can help/fix.
