Z10 vs Apple powerbook G4 Mac OS 10.5.8

Hi,
I just bought the new Z10 and unfortunately, i couldn't connect it with my computer. It seems the software requiere Mac OS 10.6 and i couldn't upgrade mine to 10.6. My computer can only run with 10.5.8.
I try to find an other desktop manager that can run on my OS. It is ok but the old version of desktop manager doesn't want to recognize my Z10... why? Of  course the new Iphone work on my computer and the google OS also... Why not the only one i choose (blackberry)? Did I do something wrong? Is there any other way to connect The mobile and my computer (wireless??)
I also couldn't access to the itunes match to share my music in airplay on my Z10??
Actually i feel desapointed and hope you can give me an advise to solve this problem.
Thanks for your help

  • Apple Powerbook with OS X as Jumpstart Server

In a month I will need to install Solaris 9 on multiple SUN servers via a jumpstart process. Now, I've done this a few times using a SUN server running SolarisOS. This time Im on a tight schedule since it requires going overseas to the client's site. I have 2 scenarios available to me:
    1. Jumpstart using an Intel laptop running VMware with Solaris distro
    or
    2. use an Apple Powerbook running Mac OS X 10.3.8 to install
I'd rather use #2 if I can since in scenario #1 the laptop is running MS Windoze (don't ask).
My understanding that the <b>install</b> server is easy since it only requires an NFS mount (supported by OS X). The problem lies in the <b>boot</b> server since there some differences/problems on OS X such as rarpd, etc.
I found this thread where a SUN engineer actually did try to use OS X -;)
    http://www.opendarwin.org/pipermail/hackers/2004-September/0 04753.html
Im asking for your you expert advise on this one:
Has anyone of you tried this before and if you have could you please post your comments/suggestions/solutions in this thread?
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Andrei T.

Here is an update from me(better later than never):
I ended up using Solaris9 though VMWare software on WindowsXP laptop and successfully jump started 7 Sun servers that way.
    Thank you, Chris Marget.
I have not given up on the idea using my powerbook as a Solaris jumpstart server .
Since I also own an Ultra10 workstation I will give it a try once I have more spare time. I'll try to keep you all posted on my progress.

  • Can't Install Mac OS 10.4 in Apple PowerBook G4 Titanium

    Hello!
I have an Apple PowerBook G4 Titanium (400Mhz). My system crash when I tried to enter and hang up in the Apple logo. I used Diskwarrior and TechTool Pro to identify the problem, but there;s no error. I inserted the 10.4 installer and format the had disk. When I tried to install Mac OS 10.4, I receive the following error:
"Essentials Installation. An error ocurred, try again"
This appears a few seconds and the screen goes blue forever. I checked the surface hard disk with TechTool Pro again and the HD seems to be OK.
Anyone can help me to know why when I tried to install 10.4, the installation hang up in the Essentials part?.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello and Thanks for answer:
Yes, I have the Retail Tiger Installer disk. The problem is WHEN the installation is taking part. When a installer disk don't work with the computer, the message "This software can't be installed in this computer" and the SHUTDOWN or RESTART button appears.
In this case, all work OK until the part INSTALLING ESSENCIALS when the screen goes blue. Now, I install Mac OS 10.3 and all the installation go OK. Upgrade via Software Update to 10.3.9 and update again via Installer CD 10.4 and all works OK. Now i'm upgrading to 10.4.11 using again Software Update. The problem is WHEN i try to install from the Apple Mac OS 10.4 Retail direct to the PowerBook G4. I tried zap the PRAM and the problem persist. NOTE: When I purchase the 10.4 DVD I make an security copy. I use the security copy and the error show up....then I use the original DVD suspicious an damage in the backup disk, but the original make the same error.

  • Sprint Treo 650 connection with Apple Powerbook G4 867 MHz runing 10.4.6 ??

I am trying to use my Sprint Treo 650 as a modem with the Apple Powerbook laptop running the latest version of Tiger.
The old Treo 600 worked just fine using the laptop with 10.3.7.
But the old 600 died and I was forced to purchase a 650.
The Treo 650 manual says its possible to use the Treo 650 as a modem. The Apple manual says its possible to use a mobile phone as a modem.
I have actually gotten to the point where, after inserting "passords" like 654379 on my Treo after they were issued by the Apple. I've been told:
    "Congratulations, you are connected"
    They lie to me.
I've read about "hacks" for the TREO and the need to install special scripts. The instructions go for 26 written pages.
Is there not an easier way? These are the kind of things that make me not even want to visit the Apple Store ever again.
    And I love my Apples!
    Thanks for letting me vent.
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Don't know if it makes a difference (I don't think it does), but I have no problem connecting Treo 650 (Sprint Vision service) to my MBP 10.4.6 as a wireless modem. Make sure that you have the latest firmware on Treo 650 that enables DUN (Dial Up Network) on BT pref.
I just simply used the OSX BT setup, making sure that my 650 is discoverable and with a code (paired) for security. It is also using 650 serial port as RS232 port.
Connecting to 650 is done through Network connection on system Pref or via Airport menu. Under BT, configure as Other, the number to dail is #777 with account name and password to your Sprint Vision account (not your Sprint main account login or pw). It should be something like [email protected] for account name and corresponding password for that.
I think this is all you need to do. Did not use any hacks (in fact I completely stay away from Hacks - I have simple needs and want to keep things simple).
You'll have to probably try few times to get it all right and connect but it should not be too bad.
    Hope this helps
    Good luck....

  • Which is better: Apple PowerBook G4, or Apple iBook G4?

I have been thinking of getting my own laptop. Should I get Apple PowerBook G4, or Apple iBook G4?

Allow me to suggest that you first research the games you wish to play and become thoroughly familiar with their system requirements, especially the requirements for video hardware. Then look at computer models with that in mind. If you don't understand the hardware jargon, find a friend locally who does and ask for help.
We see plenty of reports here from people buying the cheapest Mac notebook to save money, knowing full-well it has entry-level graphics hardware, and then get mad at Apple when some high-end game won't run because it needs more powerful gfx hardware. Don't join that club, please.
The Dell you linked will not meet the sysreqs for SWTOR as shipped. As it has the lower-performing Intel GMA integrated graphics, you'd have to increase RAM to 2GB and then it still may have to run at the lowest resolution settings. I suspect it will disappoint you.
    Observations:
---New games need newer computer models and that cost more.
---Few notebook computers--regardless of make--are good gaming computers. Heat is the enemy of any notebook and most high-end games run all the hardware at near-capacity, and the laptop get really hot.
Research, please, so you aren't disappointed.

  • Just downloaded 4.0 - replaced old Firefox in Applications on my Apple Powerbook OS 10.5, moved icon - but won't open, says "won't support" now i have no Firefox at all!

Downloaded 4.0 - replaced Old firefox in Applications, (dragged icon into Applications folder though icon had bar through it - should have been a "clue" big mistake, apparently) dragged new icon into toolbar, tried to open it, won't open says "not supported" now i have no Firefox at all.
Have Apple Powerbook OS 10.5 - which apparently won't support it? Too bad you don't put "Warning! about this in bold print on same page as download page
So how do i get my "old" Firefox back?

    Firefox 4.0 needs an Intel x86 processor. <br />

    For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4.0, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />

  • Which is the right operating system for Apple PowerBook G4

Hi I want to buy a Apple PowerBook G4 but the person is telling me that it does not have a operating system and I want to know which one is the right one to buy and also that is not expensive.

If you are planning on watching video's on the internet, you may be disappointed with that Powerbook. I have a 1.67Ghz Powerbook and it struggles to play streaming video's keeping audio and visual in sync with each other. Anymore, I recommend people get an Intel-based mac if one of the planned uses is internet video.
Here's one source for new, unopened mac software, although you may not like the price: http://hardcoremac.stores.yahoo.net/ .  If you look to buy thru an auction site, be aware that any gray-faced disk is a system disk that is locked to the system it shipped with. So, for example, an iMac OS X 10.4 disk won't work on a Powerbook. Best bet is to stay with black-faced retail disks.

My G4 Apple PowerBook will not boot further than pale blue/grey screen displaying "flashing file symbol / flashing ?"
Last previous action:  Used Firewire cable and "Target Mode" to copy files from G4 eMac to the PowerBook.
I worked from the eMac to the PowerBook, making the PowerBook the "Target".      Files seemed to transfer OK.     Won't boot from InstallDisc.  Holding down T on startup results in Target mode screen.   I have a G4 iMac and a G4 eMac.    Can I use either of these with Firewire cable to boot-up my PowerBook ?
I'm new to using this Communities & Forums Help.   Can someone please help me to get going again ! !     Thanks for your time.  Graflood

    Hello,
It sounds to me like the PowerBook is stuck in target disk mode.
It's expecting the iMac/eMac to be there when booting. Seeming it's not attached, it will show a flashing folder.
If your PowerBook internal drive is bootable, then simply hold down the option key when booting and select it's internal hard drive. That should boot your PowerBook into Mac OS X.

TEXAS! Mac Man - Howdy neighbor! (Park Forest - you know where it is methinx)
RE: the PPC in the rover (back on topic) - my guess is that the design cycle began around the 750MHz and they were afraid to change it as the project progressed (Murphy's and Unintended Consequences Laws). I still use my Pismo regularly, antiquated as it is. Michael Lax is probably right that whoever wrote the software wouldn't rewrite to Intel because of said Laws.
Got me to thinking about the claim that the Apollo 13 had basically a TI pocket calculator for computing. Checking on it, found this:
    Quote:
To put smartphone progress into perspective, Otellini said a smartphone today has more computing power than all of NASA did when it put a man on the moon in 1969.
To me, that's an astounding claim (even though I realize a lot more of the work depended on individuals than on computers back then).
Otellini is Intel CEO, so I'm sure this is not a frivolous claim.
Does anyone know specifically what partiular parameter was compared here?  Maybe FLOPS?
    =====================================
    SNIP (poster's name)
There may be an element of hyperbole, but it's relatively defendable.  The typical processor of the time was on the order of a COSMAC 1602 (8-bit processor with maybe about 100 KIPS and maybe 4kB of core memory).  That was about the level of processing in the nav computer on Apollo 13.
A smartphone would be running over 500 MIPS with 64 GB of flash, and a couple of GB of RAM.  However, its graphics processor can probably do about 10x that throughput, albeit, more narrowly focused on pixel processing, rather than general purpose processing.
In 1982, 3 years after the first moon landing, our corporate timeshared CRAY-1 was rated around 80 MFLOPS.  This was for a company with about $1 billion annual sales.  One would have expected NASA to have a few CRAY-1s around, but the typical graphics processor alone blows a CRAY-1 out of the water just displaying a complex splash screen.
EDIT - Almost forgot, calculator legend is true.
    Best to all

    Seems like If i toggle between iPad / iPhone display via apple TV and Mac Mini display via apple TV;
Toggle how?  What are you doing?  Why do you have the MacMini connected to the TV?  That is the whole point of AppleTV.  It is a simple way ( in therory ) to get your content to your TV without having to plug your computer in to your TV.
