Z2 contacts and phone app crashing

Question

I have had my Z2 for a couple of months, and now routinely do factory reset once a fortnight as the Contacts app and the Phone app crashes more and more frequently as time goes by.
The first day after a factory reset, all phone calls will work fine and I can find my contacts.
The second or third day, the Contacts app starts taking a long time, and the phone app starts crashing if I select a contact to call
The fifth to seventh day, the Phone app starts crashing every time I go via Contacts rather than dialling the numbbers
The ninth day or so, the phone crashes on half of the outbound calls
around the fourteenth day, the phone crashes also on inbound calls.
Interestingly, Skype calls work brilliantly, and contacts viewed in Mail or Gmail apps have no problems at all.
Does anyone have similar issues?
Is there a specific update to the Phone app on Android, or any Phone apps you would recommend?
