Z2 Screen Discolouration

I've had my Sony Xperia Z2 for coming on 3 months now and yesterday i noticed a slight yellowy discolouration next to the power button on the screen (see picture below).
This is most visible when the screen has something white on it but is evident all the time (obviously only when the screen is on, no visible damage when the screen or phone is off).
I have no idea why this has suddenly happened and know i havent done anything to the phone that would cause this.
From using google i can find references to the Xperia S having screen issues with a yellowish tint but that seems to be affecting the whole phone and not just one section like mine.
Has anyone experienced any issues like this?
How do I stand with Sony getting a replacement/screen fix as the phone is less than three months old and (in the UK) still covered by the 1 year garuntee on the product as i have only used the phone in the manor it was intended to be used.

  • Iphone 3g screen discolouration..

my iphone 3g has a slight screen discolouration in the RH corner.. you can see easily when using the
flash light app.. as its bright yellow. I assume this is covered by warranty?

I have the same issue (see post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1647241&tstart=0). Not sure if this could be fixed under warranty. I have checked a colleagues 8Gb black version and his is fine. I notice mine when the screen is white or black (I can't see this with the notes app running). I don't know if I can put up with this for the next 18 months.

  • Green/Yellow screen issue? (Not blobs, whole screen discolouration)

    Hey there,
I know there has been many websites posting about the yellow blobs that have been appearing on the new iPhone 4's retina display as a result of manufacturing issue.
However, my entire screen seems to have a much 'cooler' tint that my previous iPhone 3GS or MacBook Pro screen. This is my second iPhone 4 (the first didn't vibrate) and the screen appears the same - unfortunately, I'm a tad OCD and would just like to confirm this is how the screen should appear. When I visited the Apple Store, I didn't have time to compare to other handsets on display.
It's not dreadfully green/yellow, but white appears much cooler than I'd imagined. The 'blue' top bar on apps such as Safari, Messaging and Email appears more green than blue.

It doesn't appear to be in blobs as the sites describe though.
On a pure white screen, the entire screen shows no trace of defects - it is all the same colour with no localised discolouration, it appears white. It just appears as if the screen itself is 'cooler' (I can't find any other word to describe it) - it just appears to add a greenish hue to the screen, specifically items that appear grey, blue or green.
I'm just curious if this how the Retina Display is supposed to be? I know with each successive iPhone, the screen became warmer and more yellow, I was wondering if Apple have decided to go cooler in this approach.

  • Screen discolouration when black

For about two weeks I have an issue with my screen on my MacBook Pro (2011). When I'm watching a video and the screen is dark, in the centre of the screen I can see blue and white discolouration. If I look closely in the white area, there are black dots present. They are not visible when the screen has something white or bright coloured playing. I haven't tried internet searches, but haven't found any similar problems. I am not computer savvy.
    Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Sorry- * I HAVE tried internet searches

  • Is anyone having any uneven or discoloured screen issues with iPad mini or iPad 4th Gen?

Hello, in view of the fact that many users had screen discolouration issues and uneven backlight issues with the iPad 3rd Gen, I wonder if those issues have been sorted out. Has anyone here had any screen issues with the iPad mini, or the iPad 4th Gen?

    No.

  • Green Screen Artifacts??

    I have a MacBook Pro:

    Processor Name:    Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed:    2 GHz

I opened my computer this morning and there were green screen discolourations. I've heard that they're called artifacts but I'm not sure how to make them stop. Earlier this morning they made reading materials rather difficult but now they have simply faded into vertical lines across the screen. I'm not entirely sure what to do in order to fix it. I've reset the PRAM/SMC and the problem still persists.

A new Mac is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.

  • IPhone borked on many levels after rainy day.

I was using the map feature whilst wandering in the rain yesterday. I tried to send a text but the the letter were all goingwrong, eg., backspace was registering as an "m". Later that day, I noticed screen discolouration in the form of a giant swathe across the screen like it has been wiped, and seemingly deeper in the screen an area of blobs, both shapes a shade lighter than the surrounding area.
Other problems appeared too. Mail doesn't work: "cannot get mail the password is incorrect", even though the password is correct. The phone won't switch off. It keeps suddenly waking up too, with no message. A message says the network has been lost, also not true.
    Phone's 1st gen, around 14 months old.
Could fix this prob if it's possible to upgrade to a new one when they appear!

    Hi Ben,
If you haven't already, try restarting or restoring the iPhone.
You can restart the iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears> then slide to turn off> and turn the iPhone back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake again, as described on page 34 of the iPhone User Guide.

  • Screen corners discoloured

Hi, i have noticed that the bottom left and right (especially) hand corners of my screen seem to be a faded/dull grey/black colour, and never seem to display the same smooth colour as the rest of the screen. Is this a common problem anw what are my options? They have not been pressured or impacted in any way. Thanks in advance.

Hi usually that happened if your screen is close to strong magnetic field or was put in a bag together with device with strong magnetic field (cellphone,..maybe)
Move your macbook away from the area if you stationed the macbook on that certain spot all the time.
Hopefully, the damage is not permanent, and it will fade away by itself or by changed the refresh rate and resolution couple time. Back in the day of crt screen, you can degauss the screen, but I don't know if that applied to lcd because you cannot degauss lcd screen.
Just maybe this pixel fix can help: (but I doubt it will)

  • Yellow discolouration towards top of screen

    Hi everyone,
I've had my iPhone 5s (space gray) for a couple of weeks now and I'm becoming increasingly aware of a yellowing towards the top of the screen.  Initially, I noticed this as a yellow 'band' across the very top of the screen occupying the space that the menu bar (i.e. time, clock, system icons) normally takes up.  It comes and goes depending on what light your in; sometimes it's near invisible but yesterday, in broad daylight, it was a strong yellow colour.
After looking at the screen from various angles and such, I've noticed that this gradual yellow gradation occurs across the entire screen with a cooler, bluey white near the bottom towards this warmer, yellowy white near the top.  This can be clearly seen on the grey surround of the keyboard in horizontal mode, e.g. Messages.app when used in landscape mode.  The left side is yellow-grey, the right is blue-grey.
Additionally, there seems to be a very bright band of lights at the very bottom of the screen which is clearly the backlight.  It almost seems as if this backlight is lighting the entirity of the screen and perhaps it can't cast it wide enough to reach the top?
I can't determine if this is a isolated hardware issue or common fault.  I've looked at a few other iPhone 5s at work and they all seem to have this issue to varying degrees (even an iPhone 5 seem to have the problem but it was far less saturated).  I can't check in my nearest Apple Store as it's over an hours drive away and I simply don't have the time just to check another iPhone.
Just curious if anyone else has had this issue, or resolved it with the Genuises? I'm not going to play display roulette if this is a widespread and common issue.
    Regards,
    Jamie

Most of my swaps have been through mail via AppleCare. I have AppleCare+ so express replacement doesn't cost me anything. I actually prefer it because the rep on the phone has to take your word for it that something is wrong with your device. When you go to the Genius Bar they often say they don't see a problem and you have to sweet talk them into giving you a swap. The only advantage to the Genius Bar is that it's instant gratification and you can instantly see if the new device has the same defect and get another replacement right there on the spot. Also it's free, and express replacement via AppleCare will cost you $29 if you don't have AppleCare+. You can do mail in service over the phone that's free too, but it requires you sending in your device first before they send you the new one, which means you're without a device which is unacceptable to me. The only other disadvantage to express replacement is that they put a hold on your credit card for the replacement cost of the phone in case you don't send yours back within the 10 business day window after receiving your new one. In some cases it can be pretty costly. Each time I've done it they out a $850ish hold on my credit card for several days. The only reason I've been using express replacement over the mail is because where I live the nearest apple store is about 2 hours away. So if I'm around an apple store I'll use it, but most of the time I'm not.

  • HP Envy 15 Heating Issues and Screen Damage

    Hello,
This is going to be quite long since I'm going to explain everything in as much detail as possible.
I bought my HP Envy 15 (j123tx) in September 2014 and for three months I had absolutely no issue with it (work wise and gaming wise) until one day I booted up the computer and noticed that a big rectangular portion of the screen (on the top - in the rectangular area that aligns with the touchpad when the lid is closed) was discoloured. Specifically it was much darker than the rest of the screen on a black background and yellow on a white background.
After checking to see if there was anything on the screen's surface, I realized it was a hardware issue and decided to use my warranty (of which I have another 8 months or so remaining). I told the retailers about the issue and they told me it could be because of the pressure applied on the lid (when it is closed) that affects the screen specifically in that area since the touchpad is a bit sunken in to the notebook's body. After expressing my displeasure at how inconvenient that is since I've taken very good care of my notebook and have only transported it in the HP notebook bag, they promised me that they would send it to the HP Service Center in Sri Lanka who would replace the display panel for me (obviously since my notebook is still under warranty).
After 10 working days, I went over to the retailer's warranty center and collected my notebook with the display panel replaced and the problem gone. I did however notice that the technicians had pasted a note next to the touchpad which read "Check  the temperature of the touchpad. It could be heating up and damaging the screen". I asked the retailer's technicians what this meant and they told me that since the notebook has a magnesium (or magnesium based) body, it tends to heat up. The heat could also be heating up the touchpad (since that too seems to be made of magnesium). As a result whenever I close the lid of my notebook, the rectangular screen area directly above the touchpad could be heating up and thus getting damaged.
Now this to me seems like a huge product defect. I've been using HP notebooks for more than 8 years and I've never heard of this issue before. I asked the technicians how I could prevent this from occurring again and they told me to use the little cloth that came with the laptop when I bought it that is placed under the lid (between the screen and the keyboard) when the lid is closed.
While using that little cloth doesn't seem to be quite inconvenient, I'm very afraid that the problem will occur again and I'll have to get it fixed again which involves transferring all my data and losing my notebook for 2 weeks which is highly problematic for me as I require it for work. Should the problem occur again outside the warranty period, I feel I may have wasted a good amount of money on this notebook when I trusted HP over its competitors simply due to my past experiences with its reliability, durability and performance.
While I realize this is not a current issue - I would really like to know if this issue has been experienced before (my search did not turn up anything related) and if I do have to be worried about it happening again and if so, how I should go about handling it with the retailers (perhaps I should give it back and ask for a refund for selling me a defective product).
    Thank you sincerely.
PS: I have attached a picture of the problem when it occurred for your reference.

Thanks for the prompt reply WeiH.
Sadly there doesn't seem to be an HP Service Center in my country (Sri Lanka). So now I'm really confused as to what my retailer's technicians meant by "we'll send it to the local HP Support Center and have your display panel replaced".
Whatever they did, the display panel has been replaced and I've been using it for less than a week so far with no issues. The touchpad hasn't really been heating up and has in fact been as warm as the rest of the notebook. Perhaps it's because I have now turned on the option of disabling the touchpad whenever an external cursor device is attached (since I primarily always use a mouse).
Needless to say, since we both have no clue as to how the touchpad overheated and damaged the screen (in the exact position and measurement as the touchpad) I feel like it's just a matter of time before it happens again.
Obviously I understand that there's little you can do on your side other than direct me to an HP Support Center. However I hope my worries are justified as I feel that as a consumer I shouldn't have to worry about my brand new product malfunctioning by no fault of my own.

  • Late 2007 MacBook Pro intermittent black screen

I have this very odd issue with an intermittent black screen on a late 2007 MacBook Pro (4GB/320GB 7200rpm) Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1
Apologies for the length of the post.
In cycles separated by a few days to a week, the screen will flicker to black, initially very briefly, then for longer periods until it is black continuously, where it stays from a few hours to a couple of days then it flickers to normal, again very briefly then with longer intervals until it is steady and normal. It can then be fine for a week or more.
When the screen is working, it's perfect; no lines, stripes, colour shift or any difference to what one would expect. When it is black, the backlight is still operational (and dimming when on battery power) but there is no image - all pixels are solid black. Shining a torch on/through the screen does not reveal any image. When mirrored, the external monitor shows the brightness adjustment moving up and down in response to the key presses but it has no effect on the internal screen.
My external display (Eizo) is always functional no matter what the built-in one is doing and is completely solid at all times.
There is no correlation to temperature (I have SMC fan control), sleep, restart, fan speed, power source or anything environmental. The MacBook is on a fan stand for most of the time. External connections make no difference. If the fault is present before changing any of these factors, it is there after.
I am aware that this machine has known vulnerabilities with GPU and display issues but none present quite like this. I have performed the usual trawl on the net and I now know more than I ever wanted to about attempts to fix it.
    Software remedies attempted:
    Resetting PRAM and power manager.
No sleep image file (never used this option). I deleted the old swap files that were there in any case but this unsurprisingly did nothing.
Resetting the display settings via keyboard commands or Sys Prefs.
Screen savers and settings are not implicated.
Nothing whatever in the console logs that I can see.
TechTool Pro gives video RAM a clean bill of health and all other components pass including tests on the HD with TTP and DiskWarrior.
Safe boot and booting from systems on backups seem to have no effect but one safe boot restored the screen briefly - I think it was a coincidence.
I updated the OS from 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 while this fault was coming and going and it made no difference. I usually prepare the machine for updates by running the cron jobs, repairing permissions etc.
In expectation of suffering this fault when the external monitor was not connected, I installed iScreen on the MacBook and use my iPad as a supplementary display and that works well too. Having all three operating, when the internal is functioning, is quite fun.
    Hardware tests:
I removed the upper plate holding the keyboard and the interior of the machine was very clean with only some small dust accumulations in the fans, which were removed. There was no sign of any discolouration, corrosion, or other unpleasantness on the PCBs. All connectors and wiring looked good.
Every part of the logic board, cables and connectors were percussed, gently deflected and spray freezed, both while the fault was present and not (machine running) with no effect.
Display back was removed and the LCD board given the same treatment. No changes.
Display cable disconnected at both ends and tested for continuity (probe resistance accounted for) and consistency with a Fluke 87 multimeter - passed OK. On a scope, active signals and power were present on all the pins when the display was working but the fault did not occur during this test, which might have been interesting.
No apparent shorting of the display cable but without removing it this cannot be proved.
Problem not affected by hinge position, pressure on any part of the display, twisting, percussing etc.
Used compressed air to blow out the connectors which were reseated carefully.
After all this, the machine remains in exactly the same state, cycling between operational and black with various flickering stages as it comes and goes.
All I can deduce is that as the external monitor has always been OK, the GPU itself is probably working fine and the fault is more likely in the LCD panel electronics. I doesn't feel like a software issue to me but heck, I don't know what is going on.
Does anyone have any experience of something like this?
    Thanks,
    Joel.

    Thomas,
Thanks for your post and I'm sorry you have suffered the same problems.
My trust levels are not very high because it's clear there is some systemic display problem with this model, which is why Apple are fixing them. As I mentioned, we have no idea if the replacement boards are any different to the originals. From your experience it would look like they are not and my suspicion is that it is very unlikely that Apple made a new batch of these logic boards a long time after the model was discontinued. If anyone has evidence to the contrary, I stand to be corrected.
As you say, the difference between our two faults appears to be that a physical deformation of some part of the machine does something with yours but never did with mine. At one point I felt that a short in the internal display cable seemed like the best explanation for the problem but it looks like it's more complex than that because of the behaviour of our external displays and subsequent strange booting behaviour.
If, as I have read, the soldering of the GPU was faulty and leads to progressive failure of the graphics sub-system, then all kinds of strange behaviours could arise and produce the intermittent problems we have seen. Micro-fractures of the chip interconnects would suggest that tiny movements might change the presentation of the fault. If soldering really is the issue, then keeping the machine as cool as possible will extend the life of the connections. Consequently mine will sit on a fan-stand for the rest of its days, which is no problem because it just had Win 7 installed on it and I don't want to be seen in public with it in that state ;-)
All we can conclude is that a logic board swap fixes the problem for some indeterminate period, so the problem is on that board. Whether it is a design fault with the NVIDIA chip itself or a manufacturing fault with the board is not clear but we can probably forget LCD panels, cables, sleep issues, power supplies and all the other peripheral issues unless there is yet another design issue that causes the GPU to fail.
Are you intending to present your machine to Apple for another go at a fix?

  • Strange display problem band through screen -=Pictures included=-

I bought a refurb intel imac and had it delivered on May 30th. June 2nd, I brought the computer in to the apple store to repair the bleeding backlight on the LCD (corners were very bright); I just picked it up again on June 5th.
At first, I was very impressed with the turnaround time on the repair (3 days, 2 of which were weekend days). However, once I got the imac home & set up again, I was disappointed to see a thick discoloured bar down the entire vertical length of the screen!
The band is really strange; it changes colours depending on what colour is on top of it, and seems to flicker. I've determined that it only appears when the display is set on "millions of colours", not "thousands" or "256". I've also tried resetting the PRAM with no luck...
What are my options here? Is there an easy fix that I can try myself? Or is it more likely that the Apple store techs damaged something internally when they installed the new LCD? I really don't want to lug this computer back to the store, wait several more days, then lug it back home again. It's a huge inconvenience especially since the imac is all-in-one so I'm left using my old PC that was looking forward to a peaceful retirement...I just don't see any other choice...
