  • Z22 and 6.2 software issues

    I have a Z22 and downloaded the latest software update - 6.2. I am using Windows Vista. At first it wouldn't download, after several tries, it completed the
    download.
    I was initially able to sync my Z22 and the computer, then it would lock up the computer and the Z22 when it was almost through the process. Now it wont
    connect to the computer via the cable. I have deleted and reloaded the software but it hasn't changed the above issues.
    I suspect it is related to Vista, which is on my lap top as I have XP on my desk top and I have no problems syncing the computer and Z22.
    Can anyone assist me with these problems?
    thanks

  • Z22 and Vista

    I'm new here so if this has been covered somewhere just let me know where to look.
    I just purchased a Z22 and I haven't opened the box yet.  I want to make sure that it is compatible with Vista.  I downloaded PalmdesktopWin62 and ran the install.  It stopped partway through and said it could not upgrade the version already installed.  Well, I haven't installed anything yet.  but if I go to Control Panel, it shows that Palm software has been loaded (I suspect it is really showing the partial installation I was running) but when I try to uninstall it, I eventually get the message that dll PalmdevC is missing and the uninstall terminates.
    So, can someone tell me definitively whether the Z22 is compatible with Vista, and then help me figure out where I should go from here to get it loaded?
    Thanks~

    You need to do a "clean" uninstall of Palm desktop. After the uninstall, install the version of Palm desktop that you got with the Z22.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
    Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
    copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    You don't need to do the first step above.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer.
    Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
    *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
    into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
    hide hidden files.
    Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
    Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
    Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
    Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before create a hotsync name.

  • Palm Z22 and sync with Windows Vista 64-bit system

    I have  been trying to sync my Palm Z22 with a new laptop that is running the 64-bit Vista.  Based on some posts I had located, I ordered an IrDA Wireless Bridge to try to resolve the connection problem.  Something isn't working right and I can't figure out how to fix the problem.  The IrDA adapter is listing in the hardware option on the computer so it appears to have installed correctly.  The laptop has inconsistently recognized the USB connection when I plug it in however.  I can not seem to get the IrDA adapter to recognize my Z22.  I've got the Z22 set up to use the infrared to transfer information.  I have noted that the "beam" feature is ON.  I have looked at APPS and have observed that most of those options are "locked" and when I have clicked on "contacts" for example, it says it's a locked app and can not be beamed.  I don't know if that is part of the problem  or unrelated.  I also happened to observe that the Apps are listed as what to transfer with MODEM connection but I'm not sure why that is even showing as a connection option since I've never used the modem to connect.
    I can successfully use my Z22 to connect via USB cable to my Vista 32-bit computer system.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in my attempts to use the adapter and connecting the Z22 with the new laptop.
    I'm not sure what else to do and would very much appreciate some help with this.  Could someone PLEASE tell me what I may be doing wrong re: the setup connection between the adapter and Z22 or any other ideas re: what the problem may be concerning why I'm not yet being successful in getting this setup to work...?
    Many thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

    Sorry for the delay in replying (bet you were hoping this worked, huh?) but it has taken some time to uninstall & reinstall the Palm software and make numerous attempts to configure the information to again try to sync the Z22 with the laptop.  I went back to amazon.com and located the device I'd purchased to confirm it would work with the 64-bit Vista.  Someone had posted their success in using the adapter for exactly what I need to do - sync my Z22 with a 64-bit Vista computer.  That consumer's posting noted: "The USB 1510 provided the solution. As soon as I plugged it into the USB port of the laptop, Vista went online, found the driver, and installed it. I was able to set up IR Hotsync as I would have on any laptop with a built-in IRDA port."
    I don't know what problem I'm having but have noted that my palm desktop software doesn't note what device (Z22) is to be connected and I can't find anything in the HotSync manager that allows me to specify that device.  For some reason, I had gotten an error message and it referenced a Treo connection which is odd since I don't have a Treo and I downloaded this Palm desktop from the Z22 site online...?  I did note my software on my Z22 is a v. 5 but when I checked various support sites online, it appears to indicate that version on my Z22 would be compatible with the Palm 6.2 version I just downloaded to my computer (and I can't find any information to indicate a newer software for my Z22 is available or how to do that either).
    So, I'm back to not being able to get my Z22 to be recognized by my computer via the infrared adapter.  I'm hoping that some of the added information I've been able to provide may give another clue of something else I can try before I have to give up and contact Amazon to return this device and either try to decide what other device may be an option.  I had checked with a local computer supply store here but they don't carry any type of device for this purpose so that's why I resorted to searching online for a solution to this problem.
    Thank you in advance for any assistance you may still be able to provide.  I really do appreciate your time with this matter.

  • Palm Z22 and issue with using Outlook 2007.

    Info:  Palm Z22, Desktop software for Palm is updated to most current, Outlook 2007, 32 bit Windows Vista computer.
    I have been using Palm Z22 for several years.  I want to use Outlook 2007  but cannot get the data from the Palm device or the Palm desktop software transfered to the Outlook 2007.  I have tried a reinstall of the Palm Destop software, including choosing the Outlook option over the Palm option and nothing happens.

  • Palm Z22 and Outlook 2007

    I have been using my plam on a windows xp computer for awhile. Now I would like to sync the palm to outlook 2007 on same system.  The sync goes through but none of the data from the palm is in outlook and the data from outlook is not on the palm. I tried the outlook 2007 conduit and upgrading to 6.2
    But I can not merge the data.  Anyone have any thoughts?
    thanks
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

    You do not need the Outlook 2007 Conduits for the Z22 if you are using PD 6.2, they are built into PD6.2.
    Did you look in Hotsync manager and make sure the conduits are set to Outlook?
    You may want to look in start-programs-palm conduit sync and change the conduits to Outlook.

    hello soundguy and welcome to the forums....
    You can only sync to Vista 64 bit with a Bluetooth wireless connection.  Palm has no drivers for 64 bit version of Vista supporting the cable sync.  Unfortunately, the Z22 does not have Bluetooth.
    The only suggestions I can offer is to use an IRDA to USB adapter and sync that way.  The challenge is to find an Infra Red adapter with 64 bit drivers.

  • Z22 and Vista (again)

    I just spent $25 on the phone to confirm with Tech Support that my Z22 is USELESS with Vista until they upgrade Palm Desktop.  No matter what I do, it will not sync.  The good news is, my data is not lost from the handheld.  Bad news is, that's what I'll be working on for the foreseeable future.  They had no ETA on when a new Vista-compatible Desktop will be coming out (days, weeks, months?) & could only say that "sometimes they work, most of the time they don't."  Gee- thanks.  So, be warned.  Do not waste your time or money trying to get help from the tech folks- their hands are tied.

    debmarie, just as we have asked every person on this forum who posts a "Vista" question, I ask you now:  "Which version do you have?  32bit Vista, or 64bit?"
    There are several large threads on the subject already in existence here.  Have you read any of them?

  • Desktop for Lifedrive and Z22

    What is the best way to support both a Z22 and a Lifedrive on Windows XP?  It seems like there are two options. One would be to install only desktop 4.1.4E which supports both, but is not the recommended version for the Z22.  The other would be to install both desktop 4.1.4E and desktop 6.2 and configure Windows so different users use the appropriate version.  That seems more complicated.  What is the downside to using 4.1.4E for the Z22 vs. 6.2?
    Thanks.

    Be happy to.  I did contact AOL and this was the response I recieved:
    Hi there,
    Unfortunately, the feature that you require is not compatible with OS x Mavericks.
    If you need assistance with something else, simply reply to this email and describe your situation. We will do our best to help you find the right solution as quickly as possible.
    We look forward to continuing to provide you with the best online experience possible.  Remember, you can always reach us by emailing [email protected]

    As you can see, it would appear at that AOL has no intentions of updating AOLDTFM.  Since the program will open, but immediately crashes and the icon is not covered with an X, my guess, there may be a small tweak that can be done to get it working again.  Perhaps there is a viable solution.

  • Hello, and Help! Can I download from my E2 to a Z22?

    Let me explain -- my E2 was stolen (with mostly work-related, medical data -- ouch!).  Someone kindly gave me a Z22, which she isn't really using.  How can I erase her stuff from the Z22, and then, it is to be hoped, get the info from my computer Palm Desktop onto the Z22?
    I hope this is possible.  I really don't want a smartphone.  I'm not that smart!
    Thanks,
    Andrea

    hi,
    to erase all data on the device do a hard reset (just go to kb.palm.com and enter number 887 for procedure)
    to transfer data, if your data are stored on the Palm desktop
    kindly take note on the username (top left corner of the palm desktop)
    look for a folder assosciated with the username on
    c:/programfiles/palm(palmone)
    then open up the username folder
    rename the backup folder to oldbackup - this will prevent any software on the E2 to transfer to Z22 which might be incompatible
    after,
    do a sync to your Z22
    during the sync, your pc will ask what username you want
    just choose Select an Existing account  and choose the correct username
    hope this will help

  • Z22 / Franklin Covey - Daily Notes and Category syncing

    I have two issues that I'm having when syncing between the Z22 and Franklin Covey PlanPlus.
    1) Daily Notes - Modifications between Daily Notes are not syncing.  I can make changes WITHIN the body of already existing Daily Notes from prior days, that have been already synced.
    However, if I try to APPEND additional information to the bottom of an existing Daily Note from a prior day, that has already been synced, the appended information will not sync.  This behavior is the same whether I append the information on the Z22 or on the PlanPlus desktop.
    2) The categories in Contacts do not stay synced up between the Z22 and PlanPlus.  The categories were originally entered on to the PlanPlus desktop.  After the sync some of the categories made it over to the Z22.  Some did not.  I had to manually duplicate those categories on the Z22.  Then a couple months later, for no apparent reason, the categories that I had to manually enter on the Z22 disappear.  The contacts themselves are still there.  They have just lost their category designation.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Can't HotSync Mac OS 10.5.6 with Palm Z22

    I have been trying to sync my computer and my palm all day today. It will not complete the sync. I have completely reset my Palm (Hard Reset) to see if that would help, but nothing. The Palm keeps freezing on Synchronizing Expenses. It cannot get past that point. HELP!
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

    I am running 10.5.8 on my imac and I have the most up to date palm software on my z22 and imac.  I had been having issues with my old palm, so I purchased a used one on ebay.  It's working great and I was able to sync with my computer, though there was another user on there that had to be deleted.  I did a hard reset to erase all data and was able to sync with no problems.  For the last 2 days, though, I have been having problems. I keep getting an error message that at startup or when I try to reinstall the software that "The transport monitor was unable to process your request" or something like that.  There's a number in parentheses  maybe -1460?  I didn't write it down and I'm guessing.
    Anyway, there's also a problem on my handheld.  There I get a message that the "connection between my device and the desktop could not be established. Check your setup...."  I have also noticed that when I try to open the hotsync manager software, it is showing as open in dock, but there is no window.  There's no place to set it up. The help tells you to choose enable, but there's not even any window open.
    So to sum up, there are 3 errors:  The transport monitor, the connection issue, and the missing hotsync window.
    I have tried Checking my admin, dumping all the necessary palm files in the trash, running disk repairs, emptying the trash, rebooting, everything that I could find on these posts.  Somehow, I think it is related to the other user.  That user has been deleted from the desktop software and then I did the hard reset, so I don't know how it could be causing any problems now.
    I would do another hard reset, but if I do that and I can't sync this to my computer, then I've lost everything.  I even tried to beam the info to my old one, but I couldn't do that either.  Maybe syncing the two devices to one user caused some problem.  I don't know.  I should try to sync the old one and see if that one works.  It's too late now...but I'll try it tomorrow.
    One of the posts mentioned something about a serial thing on the usb connection.  I checked and I do not have that, but I was able to sync just fine last week and I didn't do anything different.
    I also tried to beam it to my mac because it seems I have the ir hardware, but I don't know how to do it and just aiming it at my screen didn't work.
    I hope this is enough info for you to help me with this.  Sorry to go on and on, but I figured more was better.
    Thank you so much for any assistance with this.
    Maria

  • Palm Z22, Vista, AMD Phenom X4, Asus will not sync

    I have a Palm Z22 and a computer with an AMD Phenom X4 CPU, an Asus motherboard, and Vista.
    Sync problems range from unrecognized device to no progress when HotSync tries to connect.
    I have worked with Palm techs and with Microsoft and tried every trick I have read about including modifying the register.
    My hardware vendor has also tried, including going back to XP with no luck on this hardware.
    Has anyone had success connecting in this configuration?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

    I do not have bluetooth on either the PC or the Palm, but I have tried a USB to IrDA dongle.  No help, same result.
    In my most recent attempt, the USB driver window in the lower right says the Palm driver is loaded.  I also have an entry in the USB window that says an unidentified device has been found.  Sometimes I get the window that says connecting.  Next, the Palm shows that the connection could not be established.
    Just tried again to sync with the cable, and the USB window in the lower right reports that the device is not working correctly, replace the device.  As mentioned before, the Palm works perfectly on my old XP based machine and on another Vista computer
    The Desktop software from Access has a note that it will not work with multi-CPU machines; however, it also states that this does not apply to multi-core CPUs.
    Is it possible that I am the only person using a multi-core CPU ?  Or maybe the AMD quad-core Phenom is seen as multiple CPUs. The speed advantage of this CPU and motherboard are why I selected this configuration.
